Chancellor of External Relations

The current Chancellor is Peter McAllister, a longstanding diplomat and government official. He received his primary and intermediate schooling at the Annaleian Imperial Institute, and recieved the award for Dux of his class at his graduation there. He then travelled to Harvard and studied International Relations and Law. After graduating he travelled the world, namely going to America, Saudi Arabia, China, Russia, Australia and Italy. Once finished with traveling, he returned to Annaliea and took a job as an aide to the Ambassador to New Zealand. After quickly rising through the ranks, he gained the position of Chancellor of External Relations at age 42, when the prior Chancellor resigned.

Political System

Annaliea has long valued the right of the people to have a say in politics, however we also maintain our position as a Monarchic Empire, thus Annaliea has worked out a simple system which allows us to have both and retain transparency and simplicity. In this the Emperor is in charge of the entire nation, with the ability to pass laws, declare war, announce and decide sentences etc. However the House of Representatives is also present, and has the ability to pass laws and allocate government positions (e.g Chancellors).

The Imperial Family

The Annaliean Imperial Family is the most powerful political organisation in Annaliea. The head of the Imperial Family (who can be either male or female) is the Emperor of Annaliea, and has the power to pass legislation, command the military, organize all ministries and veto legislation coming through the House of Representatives. However in order to veto the House, they must be able to explain their actions to a tribunal of three independent jurors, known as the Inquirers.

The House of Representatives

The House of Representatives is the second most powerful political organisation in Annaliea, second only to the Imperial Family. They are the voice of the people, and are made up of 400 senators who are voted in by the general public. The House of Representatives has the power to pass legislation and appoint Government Representatives such as Ministers (e.g Minister of Foreign Affairs, Health etc.).
In the case of war being declared, the House of Representatives is reduced to a committee of 8 respected senators and the Emperor in order to streamline actions taken.

Annaliean Foreign Policy

Annaliean Foreign Policy covers four main subjects, these being:
- Foreign Trade
- Diplomatic Relations
- Humanitarian Aid
- Military Intervention

Foreign Trade

Annaliea's policy of trade with foreign nations is positive, in that in general we will accept and encourage it. We are more than willing to accept foreign business into Annaliea, and vice versa. However we will often examine a nation's economy, and that of it's other trade partners to see how trading with them would affect us. If they are deemed to have a negative effect on both the economy and society, then trade with them, although not forbidden, is highly discouraged. If a nation is deemed to have a positive effect in both the economy and society, then there is a large possibility of Annaliea signing a free-trade treaty with them, to stimulate and grow our own economy.

Diplomatic Relations

Annaliea's policy of diplomatic relations overseas is extensive, as we are a new nation, and still meeting and greeting other nations of the world. We are often applying for foreign embassies, and we have a large embassy program within Annaliea for foreign nations, as we believe that having a permanent ambassador in a region, one who understands the wants of Annaliea, is beneficial to our relations with said region. We are actively searching for alliances who require new members as we believe there is safety in numbers.

Humanitarian Aid

Annaliea is often at the forefront of international crisis, giving advice to the nations involved, and providing supplies such as medicine, food and other necessities. We believe that in the case of such a crisis it is each nations duty to help their neighbours and surrounding nations, if not all nations. However we do shrink from military intervention, as will be discussed further later. We have a small unit of workers, doctors and peacekeeping soldiers which we can deploy in any country as part of the effort to assist. In the case that Annaliea or a neighbouring nation beside Annaliea is already suffering a crisis, then humanitarian aid will not be given, as we will not stretch ourselves thin.

Military Intervention

Annaliea is a strong believer in "Talk first, fight never." We strongly encourage entering into diplomatic negotiations with a nation to try solve a problem or conflict, and in avoiding fighting or military involvement. However we do concede that military intervention is necessary in cases such as genocide or extreme human rights abuse, where the government is not willing to cease it's acts and the populace are suffering unecessarily. We are already involved in organisations which deploy peacekeeping troops to regions and nations in extreme violation of the International Declaration of Human Rights, or other international resolutions.

Annaliea encourages all nations with diplomatic or trade relations with Annaliea to open an embassy and consulate, in order to improve speed and extent of relations. We are more than willing to allow unknown nations to open embassies, as it will help improve relations between our two nations.
