Esperantist government shuts borders to Tarctica

ZAMENHOFURBO, LA ESPERANTOJ - This morning, the government of La Esperantoj decided unanimously to close borders with Tarctica. This decision was in light of the recent outbreak of the fatal Toloupum Fever B in the country, in order to prevent this disease from spreading to La Esperantoj. In an interview conducted after this was announced, La Prezidanto Ludoviko Klancio said, "It pains me to say this, but it appears we have no choice but to ban all forms of travel between Tarctica and La Esperantoj."

"This increasingly concerning disease is extremely difficult to cure and is rapidly infecting more and more people as we speak. If our borders were left open to Tarctica, we would seriously run the risk of having Esperantists infected by this terrible ailment, which would undoubtedly cause widespread death and devastation among the population of this community. Therefore, it is vital that we protect our residents by prohibiting travel to and from Tarctica at the very least until a cure for the Fever is found. If it spreads to another country, we shall not hesitate to do the same with them."

West Cedarbrook 1 - World News Tonight
With David Haber
In depth: the 2014 Elections

<Dave Haber, wrapping up a report before break>

"Thank you for that update, Martin. More news after this break"

It is a turbulent world. A world in which we need continued strong, steady leadership. Where West Cedarbrook can continue to recover, and grow, and prosper. Since 2012, unemployment has
dropped. Exports are up, and there's a new confidence in the land. Let's go forward, under President Feld, and show support by electing proven leaders, like Ephriam Sharon here in Wrycova,
District 131. Doesn't it make sense to continue the good work?

And I'm proud to be from West Cedarbrook
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the ones who died
Who gave that right to me

And I gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today today for all to see
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God bless the KWC!

Vote Conservative on September 17th.

<Libertarian Party Commercial>
Hello, I'm Lorraine LaFarge, Libertarian candidate for Senate in ATR and Potchkeyville, District 155.
Image
We've heard a lot this winter about growth, steady leadership, and confidence in our nation. During my 35 years right here in ATR, Wrycova I've helped hundreds of businesses
incorporate, fought for them in civil court, and stood up for the individual citizen when intrusive government, or bigger businesses put the squeeze on them.

These are the men and women who've built our nation, who maintain it and keep it free. They're the ones that move the freight, teach our kids, and take the risks that have brought
West Cedarbrook back from the banking crisis. I've always stood up for the men and women of ATR, and will continue to take the fight to the Senate.

And as a mother of a soldier, no one can tell me how important it is to support our fighting men and women. But I also know enough to keep them out of harms way when there really
isn't a threat to West Cedarbrook.

So let's keep growing, but let's keep a sharp lookout for the working man and woman, and for the families of ATR and across the nation. And I look forward to your vote on September
17th.

Stealth Multirole Fighter Unveiled at Ceremony
The AF-4 "Shadowking" will enter service in September 2014, says Defence Minister
Image

(Credit: Aininian Aerospace)
AININIAN AEROSPACE TESTING RANGE, LK ― With little fanfare or celebration, the Aininian Aerospace AF-X Next Generation Multirole Fighter, the final result of the Air Force's Next Generation Fighter program, rolled out of its hangar on Thursday before a small crowd of senior government officials and media, who watched on applauding as the airframe came out by its own power, while the senior Aininian Aerospace project manager proudly announced that the aircraft was ready before schedule and that the first frame would be delivered by 10 September 2014, becoming the first stealth multirole fighter in WETO service and the second in the world.

During the following question period, Aininian Aerospace Chief Engineer Jonas Hamilton told ABC News that the aircraft, designed to replace the rapidly aging AF-2 Gannet aircraft and to supplement the AF-3 Skydiver in Aininian service, would be designated as the Aininian Aerospace AF-4 Shadowking, emphasising on its modern stealth capabilities and state-of-the-art features, including an improved fly-by-optics flight control system that is reportedly completely invulnerable to conventional jamming technology and a "self-healing" on-board system that recalibrates the aircraft's avionics and propulsion systems in order to keep steady flight in the case that the plane is damaged. With a bill of approximately $210 million per AF-4 base model, it is the most expensive fighter jet ever produced by Aininian Aerospace, and the massive tab has been criticised by the Opposition in the House of Commons, who noted that it could be spent on other projects. So far, 120 aircraft have been ordered by the Aininian Air Force, with up to 250 more orders expected within 5 years, but no foreign governments have yet committed to purchasing it, although the Nautaryas and Panavia have expressed interest.

A twin-engine fighter airplane capable of undertaking various roles including reconnaissance, ground attack and air-to-air battles and with a maximum speed estimated to be in the Mach 2 class by defence analysts, since the information currently remains confidential, the multirole stealth AF-4 was designed to compete with the latest Triumvirate aircraft developments, including the Y-8M Soaring Eagle and the Y-10 Skydragon, and will complement the existing force of AF-1000 "Hive" stealth fifth-generation air superiority fighters in aerial operations. The first units of the Aininian Air Force to receive the new fighters will be the 337th Fighter Squadron and the 640th Electronic Warfare Squadron, both part of 14 Wing, whose area of command includes Southern Linack and most of the East Namor Sea. This move is thought to be a show of force against Qianrong and its latest threats towards WETO, which included the display of what were, according to Qianrongese state media, "strategic nuclear weapons", but were more likely tactical anti-ship ballistic missiles according to our in-house defence analysts.

According to a senior Aininian Aerospace official who did not wish to be identified, the company was "very close" to striking a deal with the Panavian government for its acquisition of AF-4 aircraft. According to the same source, the aircraft was also recently proposed by the Aininian government to its WETO allies, but replies have not been received yet.

Conservatives Would Privatise Energy

A future Conservative government would privatise the energy market in an attempt to create more jobs while ensuring the long term stability of the industry, Edward Field has said.

Image

The Conservative leader announced the new policy just six weeks prior to the elections for Congress, in which his party is expected to make major gains. A state owned energy industry has been in place since the 1970s, when they were nationalised by an SDP government to combat rising bills. However, the Prime Minister claimed that privatisation would lead to a mass creation of wealth and jobs in all areas of the country, adding that the current situation was damaging the Britannon economy.

"The road to privatisation will lead to an explosion of wealth employment creation," he told party activists, "this proposal will enable us to cut spending drastically, thus putting us in a position to eliminate the deficit, while also moving funds to areas that need it most, much as infrastructure and defence spending. Nationalisation is preventing all of this, and that is why I can proudly and formally unveil this new policy that would be implemented by a Conservative majority government."

It is expected to highlight yet another disagreement in an already shaky coalition government between the Conservatives and Liberals after a source close to the President, who is one of the leading figures of the Liberal Party, suggested that Elizabeth Fletcher has "outraged" over the announcement, which was made without discussions on the topic with her party.

Other parties seem largely divided over the subject. All three left wing party leaders, who are currently engaged in merging talks, unsurprisingly opposed the plans, with Thomas Peters dismissing the speech as a "fraud". However, on the right side of the spectrum there seems to a large support for the idea. National Party chief whip Eleanor Standing backed the idea, applauding the PM for his "excellent proposal" whilst their electoral allies, the Capitalists, demanded credit for the idea after it had been in their last two election manifestos.

State Visit from West Cedarbrook to Gillenor to take place

Image
The event's poster, rolled out by the government

Gillenor and West Cedarbrook have always been strong allies, both have large Jewish populations and similar interests around the world. It is not surprising then that another state visit by the current President of West Cedarbrook has been organised so soon. The President, Issac Feld, will mostly be meeting with Prime Minister Amadeus Firedancer to discuss various topics such as trade, education exchange between the two countries, biotechnical research, technology, anti-money laundering measures and of course the current tensions between Dubrovka and North Daecon, something many people will be watching carefully. Gillenor and West Cedarbrook are considered the main allies against the Communists of Dubrovka and most probably will be working together on finding a solution to the current crisis.

The West Cedarbrook government has written an official statement of the visit:

"Kramden House, Wycova, West Cedarbrook

07/08/2014

President Feld will be embarking on a State Visit to The United Kingdom of Gillenor, leaving on TBC/TBC/2014. The President will meet with Emperor Sunheart and Prime Minister Firedancer in Osserheim. OEN Ambassador Vernon Kansky and Assistant Secretary for External Affairs for Western Esquarium Steven LaGarde will accompany the President, along with a delegation of business and technology leaders. Secretary for External Affairs Warshawsky is not available for the visit, due to health reasons.

Among the items for discussion are the current crisis in the East Namor Sea, continued monitoring and response to Communist aggression in the Dubrovka-North Daecon arena, and opportunities for additional trade. Military contacts between the two nations have prepared the first two agenda items for discussion. West Cedarbrook Naval assets remain in the eastern South Central for response to any threat against North Daecon. At this time Cedarbrookese flag shipping to the East Namor Sea remains under a red paper ban until hostilities scale back.

Among the trade items for discussion by government and business leaders are:
* Increased opportunities for advanced education exchange for citizens in universities in both countires, particularly in the hard sciences and mathematics.
* Biotechnical research and development.
* Coordination of technical specifications and import requirements for mobile devices.
* Expanded anti-money laundering measures. A West Cedarbrook Central Bank representative will attend these meetings.

The President will visit several sites during the stay in Osserheim, including an Osserheim Redcoats basketball game, a tour of the TPBC headquarters and research division in Osserheim, and a give and take session with students at the University of Palan.

President Feld will return to Wrycova prior to the September 17th Senate elections."

It's also possible we could see some partnership between the two nations over the Southern Union, something which has been hotly debated in Gillenorian politics recently. Many political experts who have analysed the two countries and their relations with eachother have concluded that this state visit will most likely end with a lot of large agreements between the two nations, including the possibility of joint war games and the permission for West Cedarbrook's armed forces to have bases in the Gillenorian Crown Colonies. We will most likely see the relations between these two nations get better and better. Hopefully we will also see a peaceful solution to the current crisis with North Daecon be carved out in this visit and not plans for an hostile action against Dubrovka.
The Kingdom of Gillenor is a federal parliamentary monarchy. It's current governing party (Unionist Party) are centre-left.

How will the Igles perform at the Esquarian Games?
by Karen Bau

Iglesiantis is full of hopes when it comes to the Esquarian Games. We don't know if we're going to top the table, because that's a thing only performance will make it that way. Only time will tell. But if we don't, take these athletes as an inspiration to a constant development of Iglesian society, one where sport plays a very important role, as we see in martial arts, such as brayen.

Mayen Shayween and Yara Shay in swimming, our water polo and football teams, Yaryn Kwara and Yara Seynwey in archery, Petyr Syman, Karyn Bylayne and Yama Laxy in athletics, boxer Maya Leysay and cyclist Ean Eylu, what would you expect more from this elite? These are the events Iglesians have talked the most about, so we hope to see if we get good results with these athletes. The irony is that Iglesiantis speaks most of the time whether FK Irana is gonna beat Evylena Larena by whatever result of 1-0, like football is the only sport in the world, the same way TV news covers Iglesiantis like it's the only country in the world. It's time to go beyond those borders, and for sport newspapers to begin to talk about this event that is the Esquarian Games, which showcases far more of the potentials of the nations as ones made of sport.

We'd probably be weak at Greco-Roman wrestling, fencing and gymnastics, though, which is ironic given that we have produced lots of giant names in all these sports. I'd suppose that's the same thing we see from our students at PE because we're seeing that Iglesian youth are getting fat (too much fast food now... now everything has to be and come fast, really... no long term projects here in Iglesiantis, everything has to come at short term...) and spend less time doing exercise and too much time on TV watching the same stupid soap operas or playing computer games.

But maybe we get a good result at the medal tally. Of course the games have not begun yet, Team Iglesiantis has just arrived at Hartly by the time I publish this article... I hope they do a lot of exercise before they begin, and I wish to all of them good luck!

Radio West Cedarbrook News:

3:00 PM, Wrycova Central Time

Kramden House has announced the date of the upcoming State Visit by President Feld to the United Kingdom of Gillenor. The statement released today stated

"President Feld will be embarking on a State Visit to The United Kingdom of Gillenor, leaving on 8/20/2014. The President will meet with Emperor Sunheart and Prime Minister Firedancer in Osserheim.
OEN Ambassador Vernon Kansky and Assistant Secretary for External Affairs for Western Esquarium Steven LaGarde will accompany the President, along with a delegation of
business and technology leaders. Secretary for External Affairs Warshawsky is not available for the visit, due to health reasons. President Feld will be joined by North Daecon Prime Minister Timothy
Harris in Osserheim, and will visit Waterwitt after the meeting in Gillenor to further discuss security in the South Central with North Daecon.

Among the items for discussion are the current crisis in the East Namor Sea, continued monitoring and response to Communist aggression in the Dubrovka-North Daecon arena, and opportunities
for additional trade. Military contacts between the two nations have prepared the first two agenda items for discussion. West Cedarbrook Naval assets remain in the eastern South Central for
response to any threat against North Daecon.

* Biotechnical research and development.
* Coordination of technical specifications and import requirements for mobile devices.
* Expanded anti-money laundering measures. A West Cedarbrook Central Bank representative will attend these meetings.

The President will visit several sites during the stay in Osserheim, including an Osserheim Redcoats basketball game, a tour of the TPBC headquarters and research division in Osserheim,
and a give and take session with students at the University of Palan.

President Feld will return to Wrycova prior to the September 17th Senate elections."

The Department of External Affairs reports that it is planned for President Feld to continue on to The Michillies Republic after the North Daecon State Visit. Plans are underway for President Feld
to meet with President Annemarie Vang for discussion about stabilization and security in the South Central Ocean area, and a followup of trade discussions from her visit to Wrycova earlier this
year. Secretary Warshawsky may join the President in Santiago.

Gillenor and West Cedarbrook have always been strong allies, with similar interests around the world and compatible views regarding agression in the South Central.
It is not surprising then that another state visit by the current President of West Cedarbrook has been organised so soon after the 2013 visit. President Feld will mostly be meeting
with Prime Minister Amadeus Firedancer to discuss various topics trade and education exchange between the two countries.

President Feld added in today's news conference:
"We are hoping for a peacable reduction in tensions in the North Daecon-Dubrovka area. Joint diplomatic and military action earlier this year appeared effecive in deterring open war, and
both governments want to continue to build for a lasting peace. Toward that objective we will discuss further moves to reduce tensions. But we continue on guard, and in consultation with
External Affairs, and Admiral Ben-Asher, joint exercises are planned with their armed forces in the South Central and elsewhere".

Planners at the Naval Operations Center in Port Yehoshua have said that arrangements for the Chapeaux Exercises IV in the far South Central have been in the works with The Gillenor Navy in recent weeks.

A discussion of the status of West Cedarbrook's request for Southern Union membership is also expected during the visit. Souces close to Kramden House report that President Feld hopes this will kick-start West Cedarbrook's
membership request in the organization, and be a positive response to Libertarian criticism in The Senate.

In Sports:
Excitement is building nationwide over the upcoming Esquarian Games in Hartly, Ainin. Nationwide television coverage of the games will be provided this year on West Cedarbrook 1.

In Water Polo: No bets here, as we take up the basement in Group C. Nevanmaa looks to dominate this group and move forward.

The Baseball team seems to have a decent chance, in group A, led by Righ Hand Pitching phenom Aiden Hershberger. All games will be covered live from Clarkson Field in Hartly sur-le-Lac.

Women's Handball has a shot, although the clear favorite in Group B this year is Iglesiantis. The team has had ball handling problems in practice, but coach Winters has assured Radio West
Cedarbrook that these are in the past and the girls are ready for action.

Not much is expected in Diving or Swimming, with our best efforts expected from Brad Braslovsky at the 400 m. Freestyle, and Chiam Rodzinsky in the 100 m. Breaststroke.

Rugby shows both men's and women's teams middling.

In Shooting, coverage of the team at the Proficere Velodrome, Marlane will be covered live, featuring Flagbearer Cindy Levine. Yeah!

OUr Women's Volleyball teams, both Beach and Indoor are cute, but middling.

In Weightlifting, what is wrong with our guys? Aviva Gershon at 69 kg. is our best shot to medal here. You go, girl! The girls are making our boys look bad in Judo also, with Tina Crevecoeur
having a chance to medal. C'mon men, step up!

Finally the boys show up in Wrestling, with Terry Sheldon having a good chance in the 96 kg. Greco-Roman event.

In Track, How High, LeBron? James LeBron shows real potential in the High Jump, and Ileen Keller should put in a good showing at the 100 m. event.

Boxing will be covered live at St. John Stadium in Jasper Hill. Nozek Tarkowsky contends at Middleweight, and Heavyweight Bert Hefter has a good chance.

In Fencing, double meh.

On behalf of Radio West Cedarbrook, we wish all teams good luck, and a safe journey.

Fu Wen on Just What's Going On in Namor's Backyard
An interview with the President-General
By Ni Wa
President-General Fu Wen spoke to me about what his administration is trying to do to cope with the ever changing climate, both political and economic, in Esquarium. There is no doubt that a year into his presidency and already many changes are taking place, and Esquarium is probably the most volatile places on Earth right now. The President-General himself described the region as a "wild horse," but he added that when the time comes, he is not afraid to tame it.

Ni Wa: Your Excellency, this just came in on the news that the Aininians developed a new stealth multirole fighter. The purpose of this fighter is to compete with the Triumvirate's ever-advancing military technology. Has Namor expressed interest in ordering some for your use?

Fu Wen: I have. Some two hundred have already been ordered, and we expect them to be delivered here soon. I can't say when, though.

NW: This brings me to relations with the Triumvirate. Years went since the alliance was first formed, and tensions between Namor and the Triumvirate countries are high as ever. As President-General, does your administration seek to follow the same path, the same policy taken by the Wolf and Khan administrations against the Triumvirate, that is, total containment?

And I must also note the attitude of Namor's ally down south. The Aininians said that they regard Luziyca as more of a threat than the Triumvirate, and fearing worsening relations with Unolia, Forestia withdrew its recognition of Roubao as an independent, sovereign state. What is your take? Who is more dangerous? Luziyca, or the Triumvirate?

FW: Let me tackle the first question first. I know that there are some problems between our country and the Triumvirate countries, but I must note that the relationship between us and them resemble one between two kids with different backgrounds who cannot understand each other. The Triumvirate was formed because the Unolians, the Koy, the Ziegenhainians, they all fear Namor, they fear the world, they fear everything. They're insecure, they think that there's this grand plot devised by us to depose them or something. Of course, we never had anything like that on our agenda, we've never interfered in the domestic affairs of any other country. Nonetheless, our presence in helping Roubao preserve its independence has apparently given the Triumvirate an image of us as a "big bully."
"We cannot afford to contain the Triumvirate
and refuse to talk with them."

We're not bullies, and if we prove that the Triumvirate wouldn't be the bullies they are right now. Containment is a good way to prevent them from spreading all over in the short run, but in the long run we won't get anything accomplished with them. We need to steadily leave this policy of containment, and encourage dialogue between Namor and the Triumvirate, whether it be the Unolians, Koy, anyone. We cannot afford to contain the Triumvirate and refuse to talk with them. We need to send the message of who we really are---a country that just wants to be left alone in peace and has always left the rest of the world in peace. Perhaps if we understand the Triumvirate, and the Triumvirate understands us, the chances of conflict are reduced.

As for the Aininian stance towards Roubao, it's not going to help improve relations with the Triumvirate, or Unolia specifically. There needs to be a strong commitment to protect Roubao's independence. If one or two countries bounce back and forth, the commitment isn't there and that is not going to help us, but hurt us.

Who's more threatening, Luziyca or the Triumvirate? All I can say is that I want to improve relations with both countries. I can't stress this enough---we need dialogue.

NW: In the event that the Triumvirate isn't willing to improve relations with Namor no matter how willing the administration is to engage in dialogue, then what?

FW: They can do that, but I don't see why they want to do that. Every opportunity to improve relations should be seized. Unolia expressed its willingness to keep in touch with us during the Changlang Crisis. You see, keeping in touch with the most hostile of regimes isn't impossible. You just have to try, try, again until you get it. If I can do it by the end of this presidency, then hopefully my successor carries it on, and if my successor doesn't finish it, his successor will. It goes on and on and on. No fear.

NW: Jumping back to Roubao, will Namor continue to support the island country militarily?

FW: Not doing so is out of the question. Power must be balanced; the Roubanese are probably the only people in Esquarium who are on the edge of capitulating to imperial ambitions if they blink once. We support the self-determination of the Roubanese people, but I don't think that should be the reason why Unolia and us should be eternal enemies forever. I call on the Unolians to come forth, so we can talk, to work out a solution that will satisfy all three parties---their leadership, the Roubanese people, and us.

NW: But it seems like Unolia is now more in a hurry to take Roubao, through whatever means possible.

FW: I'm aware, I'm aware. But take a look at what's going on in Unolia---a new premier took over, there is violence going on, and militant monarchists are challenging government authorities. Announcing the necessity of joining Roubao with Unolia is just a way for the new leadership to gain public support. When everything is stable it'll all blow over.

NW: Your Excellency, much of the public support you have came from your orders to capture the Peitoan archipelago, freeing it from Republican control and reunifying one territory with Namor. The events in Peitoa have caught the attention of many people and statesmen around the world, but some are worried that you might use the same tactics---that is, war---to reunify Nantai, or anything you fancy as Namorese. I know Bethlehem is especially worried that after Peitoa, Nantai might suffer the same fate.

FW: We didn't liberate Peitoa because we were bored and had nothing to do. We did because Peitoa pulled the last straw, abducted yet another fishing vessel, showing that the regime had no understanding of our intolerance whatsoever. Our activities in Peitoa was a justified police action with two goals---topple the illegitimate regime for its acts and reunify the archipelago with Namor.
"Nantai is definitely Namorese...but we want
a peaceful solution to the problem."

Anyone can seriously think I would order a war over Nantai? Please, that is a totally different situation, and I will deal with it in a different way. We and the Luziycans have nothing to gain and more to lose from a war over occupied Nantai, so I wouldn't go there. Let's keep the peace, I say. Nantai is definitely ours' and the occupation is illegitimate, there's no changing that. But we want a peaceful solution to the problem, one that would accommodate the needs of the Nantainese people and the interests of the Luziycan government. And our government, too.

NW: If Nantai, the cities of Kenyen and so forth, reunify with Namor one day, will it gain district-hood like Peitoa?

FW: Eh...it's a possibility, although there are better schemes. For one, I might grant a returned Nantai more autonomy for a period of time, and allow the occupied territories to preserve its system, for a period of time, before it adjusts to our system. That might take decades, though.

NW: Moving on to WETO, which Namor is in. We see that many countries, particularly Britanno, have interests in joining the alliance. Do you encourage them?

FW: If they want to, they can, and should. If they don't want to, feel free to stay out. WETO membership is not compulsory. With or without it, I believe that we can be on good terms with the Britannons in various fields.

NW: Do you think WETO should play a more active role in Esquarian affairs?

FW: That really depends on what "active" means. If "active" means a WETO that will invade anyone it doesn't like, or rely on military action for everything, then no, it should not play a more active role in Esquarian affairs. If you mean "active" as in promoting human rights, promoting basic fundamental human rights among other rights throughout Esquarium in a passive, peaceful and non-interfering manner, then yes, WETO should play a more important role in Esquarian affairs.
"We should be the one that pulls everyone and
everything together. That is our mission. That's been our
mission since the very day this country first became a
country."

NW: In this hectic world, what's Namor's role?

FW: I knew this was coming...Namor's role is simple---to promote peace, stability and good government. Every country's domestic affairs should be respected. Namor should encourage the Esquarian countries to combat catholic problems, such as pollution, environmental issues, so forth...of course, in a way that suits us fiscally rather than ideally. Namor wants Esquarium to come together, not further apart. We should be the one that pulls everyone and everything together. That is our mission. That's been our mission since the very day this country first became a country.

King Marcus will NOT run for re-election
Image
King Marcus prior to the 2009 elections
GIBBER, GN — King Marcus shocked an audience comprised of the entire nation tonight, in an momentous television announcement: "This year, I have come to the personal decision that, after this year of 2014, I shall not continue as the president of the Conservative Party, and, as such, I will not seek re-election to the position of King of the Gibberish People."

In his speech to the nation, the King nominated MP C. P. Eastwood as for the new Conservative Party President and for the Conservative candidate in the 2014 elections, upcoming this year. This was a move that greatly puzzled the audience, as Prime Minister Charles Stanforth was widely expected to take the reins as Conservative President, now that his friend and political benefactor, the King, is out of the field.

When asked about why he wasn't nominated, PM Stanforth had this to say:
"I will be staying in my role as deputy president of the party; I do believe that MP Eastwood is a great candidate for the kingship, and [King] Marcus believes that as well. In any case, Mr. Eastwood would make a much better one than I."
It has been speculated that PM Stanforth declined the nomination, due to his unpopularity with the populace because of his support of the Zephuan War; other speculate that he was pressured out of running by fellow members the Conservative party, which took the chance of a Conservative loss if Stanforth ran quite seriously; however, polls reveal the public believes it is a combination of both of these possibilites.

The King's announcement tonight came as a stunning surprise even to close associates. Many of his main political strategists have already spent time conferring on campaign plans. Many have noted the move will be a strong political challenge for any Conservative campaign, as the predictions of another Conservative win were riding on the popularity of King Marcus, and that those predictions might easily be dashed now that he is out of the race.

The King has flown to Corsicor for the ongoing peace talks there, and was thus not available for questions. However, it is obvious that he will leave office still 'a King for the people' as his 2004 campaign slogan read. He has had the highest approval rating of any King, and his popularity with the populace was, and still is, remarkable.

This is too bad, he really was a good guy, and King.

At least his successor won't be that fool, Stanforth. If he's elected the country will fall apart.

@Dane Morris ^This. However, it still won't go to well for the Tories; Eastwood isn't exactly a spotless lamb either...

Louis Reed from Virgin Bay
@Jonathan Plant Yep. I'm thinking the Christian Libertarian will most likely win the elections, though the Social Democrats have a pretty good chance. We'll see; only a few months to go.

Slaves' Rights War veterans join Republicans

Image
Brave Patriots donning uniforms from the Slave's Rights War era, from the Abolitionist faction, to fight again for freedom.

For four weeks in 1957, concerned Colonists disgusted with slavery and the abuse that goes on with it started raiding plantations and freeing slaves, until the oppressive Imperial government under Xavier II crushed the revolution. Now, these men come back, to fight again to free the islands from the oppressor Little King John.

"Ain't no dumb snot take away my land and my freedom from me. The Empire always lets them pedophile slave owners do whatever they want with god's people, and they say that they got rid of that stuff, but I can tell you, they ain't doing a good job."

Wenceslaus Agustyn, a stout man from Panavia, the farthest man on the right of the picture, and a veteran of the Slaves' Rights War, was the commander of a 120 man strong slave freeing militia on the island of New Moscow, and a participant in the Battle of God's Thumb, where the Imperial army won a Pyrrhic victory against the valiant Abolitionists.

"We was the last to break, only one guy died in battle in our group, a native boy, god bless 'im. I swore that next time I had a opportunity to fight the Empire, I would."

And the time is now. Wenceslaus has rallied the surviving 78 people who participated in his militia to fight for the Republican cause, and his bravery is inspiring others all around Sanguinia.

"If we don't do anything, Little King John will just buy more expensive stuff, and destroy our green land. This land is meant for everyone, god would not have created a land like Sanguinia if it was not. We are all in this together."

So far, 19 former veteran militias are rising up to help out. We have our undying gratitude to these people who risked their lives for freedom and are willing to do it again. God bless them.

Soon before the Opening Ceremony, the archery and football teams became the first to engage in competition with other athletes. Most progresses made by Tarctican athletes could use some improvement, but overall we could be grateful that we have made at least some advances in the Esquarian Games. Let's get into detail about what the results were and how our archers and football players performed.

Women's Archery
For Tarctica, women's archery did not turn out very well. Our best performer in this area was Ulyssie Magmus, scoring a total of 623, but even her notable strength shown in her home country did not compare effectively to other archers. Magmus landed in 25, while Olivia Monschton (617) was eliminated as she was in position 34. Sarah Timothy (622) was at 27, two below Magmus. Despite our heavy setbacks, we should consider ourselves lucky that we did not have to witness any more of our archers eliminated here. In fact, we should also congratulate them on participating in a renowned international sports competition. Hopefully Tarctica won't be in the doldrums in the next few events.

As for the other countries, Panuan Ai of Unolia was first in this field, while the second was snatched by Hermoine Young of The Nihilistic View and the third is in possession of Alisia von Schutzen of New Zepuha.

Men's Archery
Those in Men's Archery fared better than the above participants mentioned. Oppenheimer Dovins was at the lowest at 31th place, but he was spared from elimination and so we should definitely send some kudos to him. Wiliemn Kastor shot his arrows way up in the charts and took 11th place, while two places up Gordon Richardson performed best in archery. That isn't bad, and it's actually surprising that our athletes manage to reach such a decent level (to us, anyways) considering the 1+ year Anarchy and crazy issues going on elsewhere.

Ming Fa of Orientalia fetched first as Alfred Wright of The Nihilistic View (again) landed into second place. The third belonged to Cicero Thompson of, yet again, The Nihilistic View.

Men's and Women's Football
Tarctica's team engaged with Orientalia and the ending resulted in the opponent gaining one single point above us. This close skirmish directly paved a way and guided us to the bottommost levels of Group D, the group that Tarctica turbulently resides.

We weren't so unlucky in the women's side, as our team scored three perfect goals against North Daecon's team. Perhaps our victory here was the best of our first progresses, because it also makes us the first in Group C at this point of time. In other news of the same sport, Unolia kicked towards the top in Men's Group D as Atlantica trails below us in Women's Group C.

Day -1's Conclusion
Let us be brief on this one and reiterate. Our progress may be slump in most of the sports we were in, but at least it's more than not participating in any parts of the Summer Esquarian Games. We also saw some victories for our countries and we can be sure proud of them now. Even if our start may have the good, it also have the bad and ugly, which overall makes our first progresses bittersweet.

Hartly 2014: Day -1

BNB takes a look at all the Britannon action in the first day of Hartly 2014, with archery and football scheduled as the only events to take place.

Image

Let's start with the archery, where we didn't have any hopes at all. Action began in the women's event first where Helen Lee and Elizabeth Hall represented Britanno. Unfortunately, both were eliminated straight away, coming in forty ninth and fifty fourth place respectively. While we were a long way from a top spot in the men's event, Chris White managed to qualify for the next round, coming twelfth overall.

Elizabeth Hall, who finished in last place out of over fifty competitors, said she was "extremely disappointed" with her performance. Helen Lee was not available to comment. However, Chris White told us he was "over the moon" that he easily qualified, with his now eliminated teammates, Howard Grey and Ryan Davies, throwing their full support behind him.

Football was a very different story. Things looked positive for the male team when they went a goal ahead in their match against Masseau, but the opposition was too strong and went on to score two goals. Success for the women (pictured) was obvious after a stunning performance resulting in a 3-0 win against New Zepuha.

Captain Jim Shaw went on social media to apologise for the loss, but was soon after praised for his "outstanding" leadership by Edward Field. The female team also received praise from millions after their brilliant dominance in a match that saw them fly to the top of their group.

The medal table remains empty of course, but the Unolians and Orientalians took early leads in the male and female archery respectively. In football, Nevanmaa, Michillies, Concordia, Unolia, Tarctica and Iglesiantis can be seen at the top of their groups.

Borécho City's current view from Ocsiyen Hill

BORÉCHO, CALUSIE
It's official. Calusie has adapted into their new, safe environment in Esquarium, and Calusians have voted for their government to come into effect from now. This marks Calusie's founding: the 8th of August, 2014.

The government building in Borécho (which is located on the Oriyente Half, across the bay) has been established with 2 parties. The current leader as previously voted in 'secret' elections is Youré Votovolot and the GNC (Gaderén Nadzonal e Calusiye, or National Party of Calusie), whilst the opposition is the GeG (Gaderén e Gaderon, or Party of Tribes), leaded by Pírdzo Segermintya, former leader of the main former tribe of Suraigo.

The Calusian archipelago has been claimed, and no territory is expected to claim any Calusian land. The main islands include Marago (which holds the capital Borécho), Víto (which holds Mynaami, the second largest city), Goroghe (which holds Vantasiryé) and Turapole (which holds.... well.... Turapole).

More will be updated, but have a safe and happy 8th August, Calusians!

Hartly Games Opening Ceremony begins
Namorese team does not get medal yet
August 8, NMR 2369

HARTLY, AININ - The inaugural Summer Esquarian Games in Hartly, Ainin began with much pomp and circumstance, dancing, singing and chanting.
Image
Namor fails at football, as usual

The opening ceremony, which the Aininian government spent billions of ramon on according to reports, began with a presentation through dance of Ainin's history, from the beginning of native life in Ainin, to fighting between Aininian native tribes, on to Ainin's progress from an isolated island country to an industrialized, modern state. A speech from Ainin's late president Oliver Lapointe, credited with establishing Esquarium's first universal healthcare system and bringing about the country's so-called "social revolution," was shown. This was followed by a show of modern Ainin, featuring rock music, modern vehicles and a flyby of Aininian jets.

The games formally commenced when Aininian president Steven Mann announced its opening. The Parade of Nations began; strangely enough, many national teams did one common thing---chant and sing.

The Luziycan team entered like drunkards (or what the Luziycans formally described as "silly walk") as they sang their national anthem. The Tarctican team---in its first appearance in an athletic event since the country fell into anarchy---sang a popular song in their country. The Michillians sang their national anthem as well, just like the Luziycans.

But most noteworthy was what the Namorese team did when they entered the parade. Led by flagbearer Youja Kana (swimming), the athletes---who wore police uniforms and dress shoes, and some of them holding signs reading "Namor" in both English and Namorese---chanted "We are Namor" as they marched, sparking a positive reaction from Namorese audience watching the ceremony. They did not sing the national anthem, and was the only team who chanted instead of sang in the parade of nations if it's recalled correctly. President-General Fu Wen, who attended the opening ceremony, gave a smile of approval.

To many athletes in the Namorese team, the opening ceremony was a memorable part of the Games, although everything has just started.

"I feel humble to hold the Gukchi (national flag) for my team, my country," said Youja Kana, the flagbearer to PTH after the ceremonies ended. "But there's more to look forward to. I hope that my fellow teammates will do well, that I myself will do well, so we can make ourselves and our people proud."

A poor start for now
Despite the Namorese team's optimism over their performance in the Games, the first day of the Esquarian Games passed without much results for Namor.
Image
Li Yajan got 43rd place in women's archery

In women's archery, Li Yajan got 43rd place, followed by Fa King on 52nd place. Both were eliminated as a result; leading the pack are Unolia's Panuan Ali, Hermoine Young of the Nihilistic View, and Alisia von Schutzen of New Zepuha.

Orientalia's Ming Fa is doing exceptionally well in men's archery. She Jian of Namor came in 20th place, and Wan Suizang, in 56th place, was eliminated. Some are expressing disappointment at Namor's performance in archery; after all, as a country with an ancient civilization bows and arrow have constituted a significant part of Namorese culture.

As the Games began with football as well, it's no surprise that the Namorese team did badly. The mens' team lost 0-5 to Unolia, putting them way back in Group D. The women's football team lost 0-1 to Rutuba.

Other news
  • Fu Wen: Namor willing to seek dialogue with Triumvirate - In an interview with Mojing Sibo, President-General Fu Wen said he encourages Namorese dialogue with the Triumvirate countries. "We cannot afford to contain the Triumvirate
and refuse to talk with them," he said.
  • Gibberish press mistakes Mojing paper with PTH - In covering Mojing Sibo's interview with Fu Wen, Gibberish press said that interview was "courtesy to PTH," an act which one on Namorese social media called "hilarious."
  • PFC CenCo Member: Luziycan performance at Hartly Summer Games is proof of Luziycan "stupidity" - In his blog, People's First Coalition member Yang Shoufu said that the "silly walk" the Luziycans performed at their entrance in the Hartly Games' Opening Ceremony is proof that the Luziycans "have a high level of stupidity."

COMMENTS
Jang Ong
DID ANYONE SEE WHAT PTH DID? THEY DIDN'T MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT THE NAMORESE ANTELOPIAN DANCERS WERE KICKING (OPPRESSING) THE AININIANS. THAT WAS "FIGHTING BETWEEN AININIAN NATIVES." Censorship at its finest. 92 7

Mang Vang
@Jang Ong I think they did that because it doesn't look good narrating it. But nonetheless this is ridiculous. You want to portray the human desire for freedom? Sure, but why do you have to troll your ally and number-one buyer of planes while you're at it? It's not right. 41 29

Dian No
@Mang Vang With all due respect, just let it go. The Aininians were indeed oppressed by the Antelopians, and won their independence, and that's what they are today, an independent nation. Seriously, that was like 200 or so years ago, just drop it. It's not like the same Antelopian regime rules us today. I must say that like any people in the world, we Namorese have done stuff that we're proud of and stuff we aren't proud of. 32 19

Go Ming
@Dian No Sure, sure, we made a mistake repressing the Aininians, but the same argument works the other way. It's been 200 years, right? Then why can the Aininians drop it? Why do they have to revisit it? 32 2

Txo Ying
Let's stop talking about the dancer thing and focus on how PTH covered it. Why did PTH have to not mention it? It's okay to do so. I'm really beginning to question the credibility of government-run media when it comes to stuff like this... 30 5

Could Nylasia demand independence?

Image
Wedsbury, capital of Nylasia

After being made a Dominion in 1910, Nylasia has stayed relatively quiet, content to run it's own affairs while staying associated with the Gillenorian Empire. This could all change as there has recently been talks within the Nylasian Parliament at complete independence from Gillenor. Many people have different views on independence, some already believing that they are as independent as they should be. Others believe that because they have a different culture and have managed their own affairs for long enough, they are basically an independent country already and should be officially recognised as one. This is also an issue that has been hotly debated by the natives of Nylasia. White people are the majority in Nylasia, however the native tribes have official representation in Parliament, so independence is an issue that they must be part of.

We spoke to several different people in Nylasia on the issue of independence, all had different views and reasons for these views.

James Van Pallerum is a 70 year old ex-politician living in the countryside town of Hamlin, Ilanga province.

"So James, do you believe that Nylasia should be independent from the Gillenorian Empire?"

"I believe that we are already independent in the fact we are a dominion. Gillenor and Nylasia have a partnership together, culturally and economically. If we were to declare independence then we would severe that partnership, and god knows what would happen to us then."

"So you believe that if there was to be independence from Gillenor, Nylasia would fall into ruin?"

"Well not exactly, I believe that we would be worse off. We import a lot from Gillenor, at pretty low expense because of our relationship with them. If we were to severe this, the cost of living would go up and our economy could falter."

"Could you explain more about your cultural relationship with Gillenor?"

"Yes, well we all are descended from Gillenorian settlers here, and have many cultural similarities with Gillenor. Although some of our culture has changed due to the land we inhabit, we still are very similar to our Gillenorian brothers, more so than pretty much any other nation in Esquarium."

We then talked to Lucy Kalles who is a 22 year old student studying at the University of Wedsbury, Central province.

"Lucy, do you believe in independence from Gillenor?"

"Yes, I do think we should become our own country."

"And why is that?"

"Well, we are pretty much a separate country anyway. We have a vast amount of raw materials that we have the technology to use. We don't need Gillenor to sustain ourselves anymore. I'm not saying we fully cut ties with them, they are probably our best friend in Esquarium, but full equality should be something we strive for."

"And what do you think about the natives in this situation?"

"Well, I would say that we are also the natives now, we've lived in this land for centuries and have equality between all races here pretty much. So while the natives should have an equal say in this, we are still on nation on the issue."

Finally, we spoke to Michael H'lathi, a member of the same tribe of the former Prime Minister of Gillenor, James H'lathi.

"Michael, do you believe in independence from Gillenor?"

"Hmm, that's a tough one, I would say there are various pros and cons for the issue. While being independent would give us much more freedom within Esquarium, we have to ask ourselves whether we really need it? We have so much equality within Gillenor anyway, a member of my tribe was once the Prime Minister, that's one hundred times better than many nations in Esquarium who wouldn't offer those kind of opportunities. Would we continue to have that if we left dominionhood?"

"Do you think Nylasia could survive on it's own?"

"Oh yes, however it may take a while to actually adapt. We already have a foothold in the world through Gillenor, if we left that we would have to start over fresh, and it may not ever be the same."

"So are you for or against independence?"

"A bit of both probably, I honestly don't know and haven't made a decision yet."

Right now there doesn't seem to be any plans for discussion or a referendum over independence on the Nylasian government's agenda, however there have been rumours that one could be unveiled later on this year. Until then the public will just have to keep debating and speculating.

Wave of Terrorist Attacks - ALA Responsible

The Alcon Liberation Army has said it is responsible for a series of terrorist attacks in various locations of Candover that claimed the lives of 64 civilians in a major attack on the heart of the Commonwealth.

Image

The most deadly attack occurred outside a childcare centre, where a car bomb killed eight, mostly children, and also injured twenty. A suicide bombing on the Candover Metro killed seven, while a deliberate explosion on a double decker bus killed six. Other attacks included car bombs close to hospitals, bus stops and political residences. Early estimates suggest that only half of the attacks were deadly, showing that the day could have cost many more lives.

The ALA, a violent terrorist organisation that demands independence for the island of Alcon, conducted similar attacks in the 1970s and 80s, killing approximately four thousand people in the process. The group has been led by Lennox Hayden since 1971, and it is believed that he is the main reason the ALA turned to violence as opposed to its status as a peaceful demonstration movement prior to his leadership. Police failed to capture Hayden when they arrested most of the movement's leaders in 1988, but he was finally found and arrested over three months ago, before he escaped from authorities in a violent attack on a police convoy.

The government has been quick to respond to the attacks, with Edward Field condemning the bombings as "brutal and barbaric". The Conservative leader promised swift action, but blamed his coalition partners, the Liberals, for blocking his party's attempts to introduce measures that would allow government surveillance of people's personal devices. However, Elizabeth Fletcher, who leads the Liberals, claimed her Conservative counterpart was being "opportunistic" and was "taking advantage" of the situation.

In a video uploaded to the internet, Hayden appeared claiming responsibility for the attacks, as well as adding that a "new dawn of liberation" would soon begin. Security has been stepped up across the country in response to the message, and all high profile and important government officials are now being forced to be accompanied by a number of bodyguards.

The main independence group in Alcon, the peaceful Alconese National Party, has condemned the attacks, although some public figures doubt if the party line tells the full story, with sources inside the party, who wished to remain anonymous for their own safety, claiming that the ANP was secretly funding the ALA. No evidence has been found to support these claims, but authorities have not yet ruled out the possibility that the ALA may be receiving the backing of politicians who were thought to be peaceful.

Hartly Games and Tac Olum

Image

August 9th, 2014

Sinro City, New Zepuha - In today's headlines we have two major stories that this news station has been following for a short while. We are currently tracking the progress of Operation Terror Scorn, the operation to sweep and clear Tac Olum militants from the Northern Steppes or Afhqatar as it is known by the natives. We are also following our national teams and individuals in the Esquarian Games! Our athletes have done well thus far in qualifications and sword fighting.

It has been one week since the start of Operation Terror Scorn and the Imperial Guard is reporting good progress. They have nearly completed their sweeps alongside commandos from The Nihilistic View, already detaining over 300 suspected members of Tac Olum. There have been a few fire fights and incidents with guardsmen and civilians. The Imperial Guard report that they have lost 3 troopers and 5 wounded as a result of firefights in the dense streets of the steppes. Civilian casualties are also becoming an issue as the public becomes increasingly involved with activism and human and civil rights concerns in New Zepuha. There have been reported cases of civilians being beaten by soldiers and deliberate executions of families ordered by officers of the Imperial Guard, though these claims are denied by the Ministry of Defense, they refuse to acknowledge any reports of civilian deaths at the hands of guardsmen. Though third party reporters have been detained in suspicion of aggravating a violent situation. More on this soon.

At the Hartly games the New Zepuhan women archers have done fairly well taking third place during quals, and the Mens sabre team have advanced onto the second round. Citizens hold high hopes for national sports team as they set New Zepuha out to the international sports stage for the first time in history. An embarrassment at this level may spell doom for New Zepuhan hopes to gain any reputation in sports.

Analysis: Days -1 and 0, and the Opening Ceremony
"Absolutely incredible ceremony," says ABC Chief EsqGames Correspondent
Image
Day -1/0 Medal Tally
HARTLY, LK ― These certainly were an eventful few days in Hartly as the first few events got underway, followed by a stunning Opening Ceremony that drew much praise, except in Nevanmaa, where its insane press went on some random rant about traditional values (a reminder that this is ABC Sports' editorial column, and we're allowed to be biased). Leading the way in almost all events so far is the favoured competitor, Unolia, whose teams have performed spectacularly.

Archery
In archery, Aininian athletes obtained satisfying preliminary round results, a surprising outcome for a group considered underdogs by most and that had underperformed on the national circuit this year. Both female archers Carol Domitille and Macy Khloe managed to qualify for the next round, placing 21st and 26th, respectively. The cutoff is 32nd place. Leading the pack, as expected, is the talented Panuan Ai of Unolia, whose performance was stunning. Meanwhile, in the men's category, star Aininian archer Jameson Kevin placed a respectable 5th, while his counterpart was much less lucky. Kelley Hedley placed dead last, in the 60th place, and is eliminated from the next round.

Football
It's football season again, as the Hartly Games began in beauty. Coming fresh out of a respectable 4th place finish in the Coupe d'Esquarium, Team Ainin is expected to put up a hell of a fight at the Hartly Games, both in the women's and men's divisions. Unfortunately, the first game began as a disaster as Michillies beat Ainin 1-0, sending our team to 6th place in Group B. But, this being only the first of many games, we have plenty of time to catch up. In the women's division, we were better off, defeating the Saint James Islands 2-1 to take second place in Group A, only behind Britanno, who absolutely wrecked New Zepuha in a 3-0 flushout, sending the latter into last place.

Opening Ceremony
The Opening Ceremony was a great mix of acoustics, visual effects, dance and modern technology, draped in a shadow of intrigue. It started with a history presentation, starting with the Delian Kingdom's establishment, to the events of the First Aininian Civil War that threatened to destroy the country, and then visited the Kingdom of Eternal Salvation's (more commonly known as the Glorious Confederation) re-unification of the isles under its blue-white-green flowered banner, until a Namorese invasion put an end to the historic Aininian monarchies. It then presented an artistic interpretation of the Aininian Revolution, followed by Prime Minister Olivier Lapointe's declaration of a New Order, after which many Aininian technological innovations were displayed in a chronological fashion. This was topped off by the first fly-by of the latest AF-4 fighter jets and a fireworks display that left the audience dazzled. With a $217 million price tag, the ceremony was definitely held to high standards, which it broke through splendidly.

Evaline and Thuman, sitting on a... roof.
In a certainly interesting turn of events, after the Opening Ceremony had concluded and most spectators at Ainin Airways Stadium had already left, a small group of four men, dressed in masks reportedly being crude caricatures of Prime Minister Courtney Evaline and late Unolian leader Jarrod Thuman, managed to get access to its roof and unfolded a large banner prominently declaring the phrase "End the War on Men". They were confronted by Gendarmes on the ground, who, through a negotiator carrying a bullhorn, managed to convince them to come back down by threatening to use "lethal force" if they refused to comply. The banner was quickly taken down with the help of a small helicopter and the suspects in the case have been arrested. They are currently in prison awaiting trial for trespassing and reckless endangerment.

And once again, let's go Team Ainin! Bring your country pride and joy!

Medal table

HARTLY, AININ - The first day of the inaugural Esquarian games has come to an end. Thus, we here at the Constitution will report on the events that have occurred today in Hartly.

Men's Team Archery
Long story short, us Luziycans suck at men's archery. Unsurprising because archery is normally only taught in Phys. Ed and while it is practiced and performed at many a festival, many don't do well. Michilles has the gold, Nihilists get silver and Bormeatri has bronze.

Boxing
In Bantamweight, Radoslaw Hledik from Vesterhag in the constituent republic of West Geadland defeated Luziycan-Vyvlander Abraham Kasprov 10-6, thereby eliminating Abraham of Vyvland from the previous round. Hledik is set to go on the second round.

When we asked him how the fight went, Radoslaw replied, "It was pretty easy, just a few punches to the torso, one to the jaw, and what outed him was when I punched him in the groin. That felt good to see."

In Midweight though, the Luzzies fared poorly, with Dragisa Nowack being defeated 3-7 to Yusev Almanov from Caucasia, with Dragisa having punched savagely in the torso and the face, knocking him out. Dragisa is not seriously injured, but he's no longer in the running.

Fencing
We were booted out of fencing and did not win. Moving on.

Baseball
In the match against the Unolian autonomous region of Roubao against Luziyca, the Luziycans began with no points, both being brick walls and unable to surmount each other. At the sixth inning, the Unolian player from Roubao hit a home run, taking him to home plate and giving Roubao a point. After the seventh inning stretch, Luziycan batter Simeon Pustin got a triple at first bat with the players from the region being pathetic in defense. The next bat by Jimmy Welsh got a double and Pustin got home, but the next batter struck thrice, and the next gave the Luzzies a third out, tying the match at 1-1.

The next inning saw two players on the bases (third and second), with a player from the autonomous region batting a home run and taking all three players home. Neither side were able to bat the ninth inning, resulting in Luziyca being defeated by the Unolian Roubao 1-4. We will improve next round!

Men's Football
Our national game: football has been very important to the lives of countless Luziycans (except Lombardians, but their 'football' is about as comprehensible as them speaking with their hands). Since that draw against Bormeatri, the national football team has been training as hard as they can. They re-adopted the total football strategy, and used the 1-1-8 pattern.

In the match against Unolia, forwarder Sifa Upendo from Asenath scored a goal 15 minutes in, while 20 minutes in, a Unolian player snuck the ball into the goalposts after an effort by the Patriots to try and defend our team. But just two minutes later, Johannes Bjork scored a goal. Finally, 44 minutes in, before halftime, another Unolian scored a goal, tying the match at 2-2.

After the break, it was incredibly deadlocked with both sides trying to score a goal and failing to do so. But with just five minutes to go, Sifa Upendo scored the final goal, enabling a Luziycan victory 3-2 over Unolia. Compared to baseball, where we lost to an Unolian Province 1-4, it proves that breakaway states apparently are much better at sports.

Women's Football
Our women's football team were clearly sitting on their laurels from yesterday's match against Bormeatri where they defeated them 3-2. Today's game against the St. Jame's Islands began with a goal just 9 minutes in by Margaret, then the remaining time in the half was mostly playing keep-away, until a player from St. Jame's Islands scored and drawn the match at 1-1 at the end of the half. The next half was basically the same with a tie. Extra time resulted in a loss against the St. James Islands, 1-2. The team is currently preparing for tomorrow's match.

Men's Gymnastics
We really suck at men's gymnastics. The best male gymnast in the country, Zitomir Brodszky came in 30th place, being tied with Chen Men from Namor. Those eliminated are Milivoj Mrdakovic (38), Jaropluk Orjdanic (74), Nemanja Zacharov (79), and Zoran Kulakov (89).

Men's Handball
We are practicing to ensure that our match will result in a Luziycan victory.

Men's Shooting
We did pretty poorly. Our best athlete, Svilen Landowski got 14th place, followed by Rosen Radenovic at 17th, who was the worst. We didn't even the enter the finals.

Women's shooting
Unlike Men's shooting, we got Nedelya Cisek into the finals, having qualified at 9th place. Ruzica Hlinka however did spectacularly poorly, at 17th place. Luziycans had high hopes for Cisek, hoping that we'd get a medal in shooting, but we didn't. Nedelya Cisek placed 10th, at the bottom of the pack, below even Johanna Haapaniemi.

Men's Swimming
For the 400m freestyle, Jacob Bondhaagen (a Sorbian whose ancestors were from Lower Sorbia in Geadland) fared poorly, being placed 22nd place in the qualifications. Adam Titov placed 25th.

In the 100m breaststroke, Yi Saul (from Nantai, in case if the name doesn't give it away) placed 27th, and Su Yan (also from Nantai) placed 29th.

Women's Swimming
Our womenfolk didn't fare well when it comes to the 100m butterfly. Sosna Krovseen and Emily Coutu, both from Dudyev, Sprska placed 26th and 27th respectively.

But for the 400m individual medley, Jasmine Monroe placed 4th in the qualifications. Serya Thuyakovich was eliminated in 27th place. Jasmine Monroe did her best, swimming very splendidly, but placing 4th, ahead of Jessica Royce and Ambre Torres. Interestingly, the last three place holders in the final have their first names start with the letter "J."

In the 4x100m relay qualification, Danielle Yeruv, Silva Sterling, Tamara Kla and Elisabeth Kirani placed 9th overall and were eliminated.

Women's Tennis
In the singles, Zdiska Prohaszka scored in the sets of three rounds six points, or 18 points, compared to Caucasian Doris Denosk, who had a mere twelve. Dobyslawa Molotov against Amelia Quinnaton from True Arctica got 14-10, meaning Luziyca came out at the top in Groups G and H.

Men's Indoor Volleyball
It is the start of the indoor volleyball matches. In the match against St. Jame's Island (why do we have matches against them), the first round was 20-25, the second round was 21-25, and the third round was 19-25, a Luziycan defeat at 60-75 to the Islander Team and tied with Namor for last place. We will prevail, though.

Women's Volleyball
Beach volleyball was a sport that we are good at, albeit not as great as beach football. Miljenka Svehla and Lidka Zhivkov would play Caucasians Marina Akhanimova and Sarah Raminov, with the first round at 21-19, and the second at 21-18, resulting in a Luziycan victory of 42-37. When asked how they won, Svehla replied "with talent, skill, and finesse that these plagiarizers have none of. They are too busy stealing from everyone else to practice."

Women's Weightlifting
The weightlifting has begun with the 48 kg. The winner was to the Namorese with Ya Ruo having 197 points, Agafa Unjrebruj at 196 points, but Slavica Vilenkin at 195 points, giving this free nation our very first medal in the Esquarian Games. Seven places below lays Viara Stasov at 173 points, between Vera Wells from Masseau and Silja Makitammi from Nevanmaa.

Vilenkin has practiced very hard and diligently, with precision, talent, and lots of training and hard work. Thus, she has been able to obtain a bronze for Luziyca. It may not be a gold, and we may not hear Moya strana tis tebya yet, but we know that we will soon hear it. Already, many Luziycans have congratulated her for the bronze medal with lots of mail being sent to the Esquarian Games Village to congratulate Slavica Vilenkin.

LUZ - 1 silver, 1 bronze

TAR - None
It is Day 1 in the Summer Esquarian Games, and Tarctica did see some optimistic progress from its athletes, mostly from archery and handball. The bad news is that we have only seen, on an overall basis, a giant wave of failures as no athletes from our country have yet successfully fetched a medal. The ugly outweights the good, but there is still a large reservoir of time and chance to aim for success in future events of the Hartly Games. We will get into what our teams have done outside of Tarctica.

Men's Team Archery
In the Preliminary round, the Tarctican Men's Archery Team succeeded in shooting Atlantica out early 211 to 208, landing ourselves a spot three points above our opponent. This allows us to move to the semifinals, where we were slammed down by The Nihilistic View 220 to 214, six points greater than our score. Any chances of obtaining a Gold or Silver were shattered, and so are the chances of a Bronze as our team was defeated by Bormeatri 217 to 218 - by a different of just one point!

This may seem discouraging, but by looking at other progresses that we've made, the Men's Archery Team was probably by far the closest to a medal, not including other hopefuls in our disposal. Kudos to the players for making it so far. Michillies took the gold, as The Nihilistic View grabbed the silver and Bormeatri - well, you knew what happened.

Men's Boxing - Bantamweight and Middleweight
Our bantamweight boxer, Richard Bobinson, secured an early victory in his field by punching out Gibberan's Mel Ochoa 9 to 6. The remaining competitors are Namor, Unolia, Luziyca, East Nautarya, New Zepuha, and Ainin.

Over in the middleweight section, our Melvin Hopkins narrowly booted Garrick James of The Nihilistic View 4-3. Caucasia, Vyvland, Bormeatri, Masseau, Kastiya, East Nautarya, and North Daecon are the others that survived Day 1 middleweight, and one of them will move on to face Hopkins. Both Bobinson and Hopkins are among the several Tarcticans that our nationals are backing and trusting on.

Men's Team Sabre (Fencing)
Now here comes the first part of the giant wave of losses. Our Men's Sabre Team, composed of Augustin Robinson, Jaydan Atkins, and Samuel Bodsworth were prematurely eliminated by Vyvland's team, consisting of Jekob Sdyn, Simon Apel, and Weuden Unjreum. The Vyvlander Sabre Team went on to stamp its flag on a gold, above the silver holder of Britanno and the bronze of Ainin.

Men's Baseball
Our Baseball Team here did not disappoint our country to a notable degree. It batted four points in our favor, but our opponent Bormeatri - slamming us in Men's Archery - scored five points against us. Because of this, we are at fourt place of our Group A. This is, however, better than Luziyca (5th place and 1 for, 4 against) and Atlantica (last place and 1 for, 6 against). The current leader of Group A is West Cedarbrook, with 6 for and 1 against.

Men's and Women's Football
Like yesterday, the Tarctican team in Men's Football lost to Caucasia's parallel, but what is good was that we managed to score 1 goal unlike last time. If you think our score is disappointing, you may want to consider that of Namor's which has 0 for and a creepy 7 against. Orientalia is at first place at this time, having 3 for and [still] 0 against. The other group paramounts are Iglesiantis, Michillies, and East Nautarya.

The luckier women's team managed to keep a clean record (that is, no againsts or losses), but first position in Group C is snatched by Atlantica. In Day 1, we competed with Namor and the game resulted in no victory for us. Fortunately, the Namorese also didn't score a single goal. Britanno, East Nautarya, and Unolia became the zenith of their groups for now.

Men's Individual Gymnastics
This is a serious part of our wave of failure, and we kid you not. Of the six Tarcticans in this field, only one (Matheo Weaver) has managed to qualify for the next rounds as the others were eliminated. It's probably going to cast a temporary, yet stiff, spell of humiliation and defeat on our country.

Men's Handball
We had more success and optimism in Men's Handball than in Individual Gymnastics. Tarctica blasted Gibberan away 32 to 22 and this allows us to rise to the top of our Group D. Ainin trails behind us with 27 for and 21 against, and while that remains true New Zepuha, Francilie, and Iglesiantis occupied first in their groups.

Men's and Women's Shooting
The 10m Air Pistol can also cast a degree of disappointment on our country. Cohen Moss was one of the two Tarcticans (the other, Jaxon Hunter, was eliminated) that made it to the finals, and even there he did not succeed in aiming for a medal, instead at eight place. Kastiya's Fabian Yuriyevich Belamy shot the gold, Michael Hunt of Ainin gunned the silver, and the bronze was punctured by Tzo Jing of Namor.

It was no different in Women's 10m Air Pistol, as Shania Togedt got to the finals while Xayina Lobstrines was blown into the elimination oblivion. Identically to Moss, Togedt got eight place and nothing higher or lower. Britanno got both gold and silver (Naomi Clarke had gold, Zoe Patel had silver) and the bronze was for Philomena Clark of The Nihilistic View

Men's Swimming
The 400m Freestyle can definitely join the wave of failure. No Tarctican athletes here, from Alecsander Hobbinsen (#12), who performed best but was still eliminated, to Quincy Smith (#24), who had not aimed so well. The same went for the 100m Breaststroke, where Charles Tanatara (#26) and Zachary Novstruk (#28) were both eliminated and were two places apart. For the 400m Freestyle, Ainin's Désiré Monte swam to gold, Bormeatri's John Jones drowned silver, and Cody Sheehan of North Daecon watered away at bronze. Over in the 100m Breaststroke, Trago Wooten of Britanno had gold sunk down, Vyvland's Markys Bleyveld grabbed the silver, and bronze was captured by Jett Wilding of North Daecon.

Women's Swimming
100m Butterfly and 400m Individual Medley's results weren't any different from the above, as no Tarcticans qualified for the finals. Susan Agatis and Elena Wilson were eliminated from the former while Katherine Allesberg and Carol Robertson cannot advanced further in the latter. 4x100m Freestyle Relay was different, though, as our team containing Helen Bridger, Eva Arlanchez, Dina Loutz, and Sasha Orweston survived elimination (but came last in the finals) that befell on many other athletes of our own.

Victoria Marsh of Masseau, Unolia's Rachel Stein, and Bethany Morris of Caucasia now possessed gold, silver, and bronze respectively in the 100m Butterfly. In the 400m Individual Medley, Francilie's Ambre Torres got the gold, silver is awarded for Jasmine Monroe of Luziyca, and Jessica Royce of Atlantia Creek owns the bronze. Finally, Namor's team (Youja Kana/Peng Gladys/Tam Yang/Lang Tzu) took hold of gold, silver is within North Daecon's hands (Sara Truebridge/Martha Spruill/Helen Pemberton/John Doe), and Caucasia (Nisha Janamova/Sara Dansimov/Hara Waslinski) owns a bronze.

Men's and Women's Tennis
The Tennis Singles had seen our Ray Saunters lose to Harrison Smith of Britanno. At first, the score was a disappointing 1 to 6, but the next (4 to 6) had better outcomes. As for the women, Amelia Quinnaton failed to overcome Luziyca's Dobyslawa Molotov (both 5 to 7). Olivia Kasukouea was slammed out by Tamara Oyt of Vyvland (6 to 3, 4 to 6, 4 to 6). Tennis could be a candidate for the wave of failure.

Men's and Women's Volleyball
Vyvland may claim its victory over Kasukouea and us in Women's Tennis, but our Men's Volleyball Team defeated the Vyvlander opponents. Interestingly enough, Britanno and North Daecon now had the same points for and points against as Tarctica, and clearly this will change in a short while. In Women's Volleyball, we also defeated Vyvland thanks to the efforts of Zeena Elzinez and Bertha Archranchez. We can probably call that double retaliation against the Vyvlanders.

Women's Weightlifting
There's not much to see here other than the fact that our Hilarie Obadges Did Not Finish this field. Ya Ruo (Namor) lifted up to the gold, silver dropped onto Agafa Unjrebruj (Vyvland), and Slavica Vilenkin (Luziyca) had the bronze.

Conclusion
Day 1 proved to be a pessimist day for the Tarcticans. None of the athletes had managed to obtain medals and many were sucked into the elimination oblivion, but despite that we should all be proud that our participants had the courage to engage in a massive sporting event like the Esquarian Games. And as said earlier in the article, there is still a lot of time for us to improve, and hopefully we can turn this bitter situation into a sweet one.

I told you, our country would fail horribly in the Esquarian Games. We proceeded to waste money on this and now we see the negative consequences of not winning a single medal.

@Sean Roberts
Isn't it too early to tell if we will win a medal or not? Even if we didn't win anything, the thing we will win is the joy and fun of competing in such a giant event.

That Multiverse ad was quite awesome, in fact way too awesome. I don't think the foreigners would like it, but that's just their opinions.

Day 1: Gold!

Day 1 of the Esquarian. Games has seen Britanno shoot to the top of the medal table after gaining points in fencing, shooting and swimming, causing many surprises along the way.

Image

Today was the real beginning of the games, with ten gold medals IP for grabs as well as many more silvers and bronzes. Day 1 went brilliantly for Britanno, and we can now look at the medal table and grin, although do it quickly because Namor, Unolia or Ainin will soon kick us off that spot. Let's start with whe we did well.

Shooting
Naomi Clarke and Zoe Patel were our representatives here, but neither of them were optimistic about their chances prior to the games, and in all honesty, neither of was the country. However, they both pulled off an unimaginable performance to win both the silver and gold. Clarke told me that she was "struggling to believe" what she had done, and I guess I owe her an apology for claiming she nor her partner had a chance in my last article.

Fencing
Here we picked up a silver after we fought our way to the finals before being beaten by Vyvland at the last hurdle. On the way there we had to beat Unolia, which we did relatively comfortably, and Ainin, a victory that occurred due to a single point lead. Gareth Black later said his team's win was "beyond reality".

Swimming
We were hoping for a gold in the men's 100m breaststroke, but we expected it from the well known Kenton Jansen, not Trago Wooten. The south Candover kid who's only eighteen won an extremely close race that could have ended with any winner. Jansen, however, just missed out on the bronze after coming fourth, but he said he was "delighted" for his teammate.

Football
It was a good day for our men's team today, who crushed Francile with a 4-1 win. They climbed up to third in the group, but second place Nevanmaa and fifth place Atlantica are still to play, meaning the gap to qualification could get bigger, or we could be pushed down the table altogether. Our best hope is a draw, and then for Nevanmaa to lose their next few games. We remain top of our group in the women's sport, but morale has been lowered thanks to a goalless draw to Bormeatri.

Other Sports
In boxing, Clarence Hall and Wayne Stewart failed to get pass the first round, but nobody was very optimistic about their chances. Baseball went well, with out team beating Caucasia, we lost 27-21 in handball to Ainin, Harrison Smith beat Ray Saunters for a win in the tennis, while Jessica Eighton beat her competition from Michillies to go through to the next round. The men's indoor volleyball began with success against Chorea, but the women's beach event failed to give a victory to Britanno.

69 DAYS

QIANRONG OFFICIALLY CEASES RECOGNITION OF PEITOA, DECLARES IT WILL SWITCH RECOGNITION TO THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF NAMOR
by CHO KOU-NO - AUGUST 11 2014
NAMO, NAMOR - In what is perhaps the greatest turnaround in Qianrong's foreign policy ever, Acting Chancellor Hsieh Jiang-De announced today that, for the first time in either's history, the Free Democratic Republic of Qianrong will recognize the People's Republic of Namor, and not the Republic of Namor, as the true representative of the people of Namor. The move comes following the election of Fu Wen to the presidency-general of the PRN, the election of Ryan Cha to the presidency of the RON, Ryan Cha's murder in a coup led by 'President' Ma Yuanchao, the reconquest of the Peitoan archipelago by PRN forces, and the flight of Ma Yuanchao to the apartheid state of Arnborg.

"Though such a decision would have been unthinkable only weeks ago, there are two things that are plainly obvious to the entire world as truth. First, whatever origin the People's Republic had as a psychotic dictatorship during the times of the Green Fever, it is- in the modern day- a legitimately democratic nation run by representatives of the people. Indeed, I would daresay that some of our mistrust in them has been a great misfortune- looking back, it is now plain to see that Fu Wen is not the herald of a new Namorese democracy, but the heir to an established system. Simply put, circumstances have allowed the Qianrongese government to look past the blind hatred that so often exists and see that the People's Republic of Namor has long been willing and able to operate as a government must. Second, the legitimate government of the Republic of Namor has been overthrown by the forces of Ma Yuanchao, rendering the government he established totally illegitimate. While the governments of Jung Fa and Ryan Cha were legitimately supported by the populace, Ma Yuanchao shed the blood of the people's representatives and then ran away with his tail in between his legs to Arnborg. As a result, the Free Democratic Republic of Qianrong has no sane choice other than to cease recognition of the Republic of Namor in Exile, and instead switch recognition to the only legitimate Namorese government at present- the People's Republic of Namor," Hsieh told reporters.

The move comes as a dramatic turn from decades of mistrust between Namor and Qianrong and could possibly herald a thaw in East Namor Sea relations. Indeed, the Acting Chancellor told the press as much, saying that "it is Qianrong's hopes that the establishment of ties with Namor will resolve ongoing issues such as Operation All In, the Trang Vai Incident, and any fears Namor may have over Qianrong's nuclear program. It is time that peace is restored to the East Namor Sea once and for all." Indeed, it is highly likely that the recognition of Namor as Namor will greatly ease the road in ending these crises and restoring order and camaraderie between all the nations in this part of the world. "It is our hope as a government and as a nation," Hsieh concluded, "that the past will be put behind us, that we will solve our quarrels with each other, and that both the Namorese and Qianrongese peoples will move forward into the future."

Neither the PRN nor the RON has responded to this action at the time of writing.

The elected government of Fu Wen versus the dictatorship of Ma Yuanchao? Not a hard choice- hell, I'm surprised we waited this long. There's one Namor now, and it's far more fit to be called Free Namor than the Peitoans-in-exile are.

The Diadochia Gazette

Published by the Authority of his Imperial and Royal Majesty

Monday, 11 August, 2014

Imperial and Royal Court
Official Announcement

Her Imperial and Royal Majesty Empress Victoria, wife of the reigning Emperor Nikolas VI of Diadochia stated that she condemns Nevanmaa for its racist propaganda and racist ideas in a public interview at the Atlantis Imperial Palace. The Imperial and Royal Court states that this condemnation by the Empress will have no effect on diplomatic relations with Nevanmaa.

The Imperial and Royal Court has published the following statement at the request of the Megas Parakoimomenos, the Lord Chamberlain of the Imperial and Royal Court.

Her Imperial and Royal Majesty Empress Victoria has condemned the racist ideas the Nevan nation seems to love. The Empress went on further to say "Even though Diadochians have their moments of bigotry and even some of the nobles and upper classes think that they are god's gift to earth, not one of them in this great empire has ever displayed the magnitude of racism that the Nevan people displayed at the Esquarian Summer Games." The Empress went on to condemn the blatant hate for ethnic minorities, stating that if such acts were allowed in Diadochia her husbands last fifty years would have been for nothing. The Empress than said "When I married the Emperor over thirty years I promised myself that I would be a good Empress, a good wife, a good mother and a woman that all people of all races could look up to and admire. I have spent my entire tenure as Empress consort supporting equality and motivating diversity so I could not sit back and not act. It is not my wish for Diadochi-Nevan diplomatic relations to be hurt or damaged by my statements. I just could not sit by and not act." The Empress ended the press conference by stating "I'm fortunate to live in a free society, as are all Diadochians and Diadochia is fortunate not to be apart of such blatant racist propaganda."

Medals won in swimming, weightlifting, shooting

HARTLY, AININ - Day 1 of the Esquarian Games in Hartly, Ainin has seen great advances made by the Namorese team. In only one day, Namorese athletes won 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal, putting it on #2 of the medal count list after Britanno, which won the same number of gold medals but has more silver medals than Namor (which currently has none).

In streets of cities nationwide, Namorese are watching the Esquarian Games live, with much excitement for the action packed as well as for their athletes. The thrill brought by the three medals led to many cheering wildly, waving the Gukchi and singing the national anthem as the awards ceremony took place. It is anticipated that as the Esquarian Games continue, and the Namorese continue to do their best, more will be attracted to see the Games unfold from their television screens.

The performance of Namorese athletes are focused here today.

Tzo Jing (shooting) won bronze in the 10m air pistol

Boxing

In the Men's Bantamweight Boxing, Namorese boxer Wangchang Jen knocked out Caucasia's Desmond Yotaman. That's all there is to say here. Whether Wangchang can keep up his decent show in the next round is something time can only tell.

Most Namorese spectators are surprised that Namorese athletes can go this far in boxing.

Baseball - Day 1

The Namorese baseball team was defeated by that of the Nihilistic View, not being able to get any home runs in all nine innings. Although the Nihilistic View's team is considered just as mediocre, they managed to sneak one point in the 2nd, 4th and 6th innings, leading to them defeating Namor 3-0. This brings Namor on the bottom of the Group C list.

Football - Day 2
Another defeat for the Namorese men's football team. In a faceoff with Orientalia, Namor lost 0-2 to Orientalia. Like baseball, Namor is ranked last in Group D. Some say that this is a humiliating scene---Unolia and Luziyca are in the same group, and they are way ahead of the Namorese; however, the truth is that only foreigners play football, so who cares about football, really?

But here's the "better" news---the women's team tied with the Tarcticans, whose team is badly funded thanks to the country's anarchic situation. But Namor is on the bottom of Group C in women's football.

Both teams were unable to score a single goal. No surprise, and this is coming from a Namorese sports commentator.

No facepalm needed though. Who cares about football?

Gymnastics Preliminary Round - Men's Individual
An embarrassing start for the god-tier Namorese gymnastics team. Jeff Caldwell of Ainin is unexpectedly leading the round. Namor's Dong Hua is tied with Crolacia's Daniel Paskal in fourth; both Sing Sang and Txo Mang are tied for ninth; Chen Men is in 30th place, tied with Luziyca's Zitomir Brodszky. Both Elo Si and Aksa Kudesi were eliminated.

Men's Shooting
This is where Namor won its first bronze medal in the Games. In the qualification round, Tzo Jing scored a total of 578 points, putting him behind Fabian Belamy of Kastiya and Ainin's Michael Hunt. The 10m Air Pistol Final resulted in Belamy taking gold, Hunt taking silver, and Tzo taking bronze.

Tzo says he is satisfied with his medal, but adds that he could have done better.

"There is room for improvement," he told PTH.

Swimming
Namor's Miko Sangjan initially did rather well in the 100m Breaststroke Qualification with a time of 1 minute and 1 second, but fell short in the final round, when he turned out dead last with a time of 1:01:99. As a result, Miko ended up winning nothing in men's breaststroke.

"We have to be honest with ourselves and what we got," Miko said.

(From left to right): Lang Tzu, Peng Gladys, Youja Kana
and Tam Yang, the four Namorese who won Namor's first gold medal

But here's news that good for the ear and soul to hear---the women's team was able to put up a glorious show for the Namorese team, winning the first gold medal for Namor. In the women's 4x100m Freestyle Relay, the Namorese relay team won gold, while North Daecon got silver and Caucasia won bronze. Tam Yang and Lang Tzu dived into the pool first, and while the race was fierce and Lang almost fell short when she almost reached the finish, Peng Gladys jumped in and turned the tide for the team, separating her from the other swimmers. And when Kana jumped in and swam, it was over for everyone else; Namor had won a gold medal in the relay with a time of 3:37.83.

News of the Namorese victory was met with crazy excitement among Namorese fans, all of them astonished and happy to see their country win the first gold in the Hartly Gold Rush in only a short amount of time.

"You know, this was quite well-deserved," said team captain Youja Kana, panting once after she did the final lap in the relay. "We worked hard, we worked together, and this is what we get. We had our eyes set on this."

Tennis
In women's tennis singles, the Namorese played against each other. Na Selin ended up eliminating fellow rival Gong Haivang.

Volleyball
In Day 1 of Indoor Volleyball, the Namorese men's volleyball team tried to even things out with the Michillians, known for their expertise in volleyball, both indoor and beach. Yet ultimately Michillies defeated Namor in all three sets, tying Namor with Luziyca for last in Group B.

Moving on to beach volleyball, the women's pair Shenwo Nakume and Jiao Chen lost 13-21 to Unolians Conla Stanson and Lila Oh in the first match, and 18-21 in the second match. This makes the Namorese tied with the Aininians in Group D for now.

Weightlifting
Another moment of glory for Namor as Ya Ruo took the second gold the team has acquired in Hartly in the Women's 48kg weightlifting. She narrowly defeated Vyvland's Ahaga Unjrebruj and Luziyca's Slavica Vilenkin. The red can be seen on Luziyca's face as The Constitution mentioned only Slavica, but not Ya Ruo.

Once Chilipa, Namora (Namor's national anthem) was heard for yet the second time since the Games opened, many Namorese fans went wild. Some even hooted "Tuchilapa, Luzeyika (Тучилапа, Лузеджика; You mad, Luziyca)?" after the anthem was played, Ya saluted and walked off the podium with her gold medal. It was an insult quite entertaining to hear for anyone who had some steak against the Luzzies.

The Bottom Line
This is a day that will go down in Namor's history as a sporting power. Although the Hartly Games is not over yet, and the Namorese athletes still have a lot of medals to win, the fact that Namor has already won two gold medals and one bronze medal shows that this is no longer Brookopolis for our fans. With that, we finish the bottom line off wishing our athletes good luck as the Esquarian Games in Hartly continue.

Other news
  • Nevan narration of Hartly Games opening ceremony criticized by anti-racism figures - Nevan television's coverage of the Hartly Games was met with heavy criticism from many who are opposed to the country's racist political system. Nevan television was said to have reiterated the importance of "traditional values," and even spouted slurs against blacks and other non-whites, calling the Nevan team the "purest" of all teams in the Esquarian Games.
  • Central Council members propose act banning usage of anti-Namorese racial slurs - Some Liberationist representatives in the Central Council proposed a bill which, if passed, will throw heavy punishment on people caught saying Namophobic racial slurs. The opposing New Democratic Party has not yet voiced its position on the bill.
