Hecados, Hectopaania – What looked like a scene out of a Hollywood action movie. Men in black suits armed with assault rifles last week boarded a Hectopaanian fishing boat, evicting the crew of 10, and confiscating the boat. The crew was returned this Sunday to tell the tale of their horrifying experience.

“It all happened in a flash, I don't even know what to think.” The captain of the HFV Saint Marie, Kev Mossac, reenacted the events for our crew at TNN, describing what was a horrifying and humiliating experience. “They boarded the ship directly from a Lyannesian patrol vessel.” he said, describing how the vessel was close enough to where the commandos basically were able to walk aboard. “They rounded us up, funneled us like prisoners onto their vessel.” Kev proceeded to explain how they towed their vessel back to Lyannesian port, keeping it anchored there and under guard. Kev also explained how he arrived back to the Protectorate under his own expense. “It was humiliating.” He finished up. “I hope the Hectopaanian courts will beable to negotiate for my fishing boat back. That was my livelihood.”

The Conitian Gulf has historically been a disputed region, although the dispute was mostly between True Tia'raan and Hectopaanian local governments. Lyannesia has displayed complete disregard with international law, claiming maritime borders which have always historically been Tia'raan. The Aether Palace has yet to release any statements in regards to recent events.

East Cortoguay is a founding member of the Southeast Oriental Entente, a political military alliance in South Conitia who's members are major trading partners with the Federal Republic.

Republic Defense Treaty On The Table?!

Soledstad, Soled - Today the atmosphere couldn't be any more calm in Soled as delegates from Tia'raan and Soled discuss the terms of the Republic Defense Treaty. The RDT was first announced by President Augustus Talbot during a speech to the Protectorate Council in 2013 as a method to expand relations with Soled.

The country of Soled has been on friendly terms with the Federal Republic since its conception, and the previous Protectorate since the First Great War. TNN was able to speak with some of the delegates before their meeting, delegate Ugo Mach had great hopes for the RDT, saying that it'll give Tia'raan the "needed barrier and international support to combat the newly announced Pact of Four Crowns."

This deal comes following the Lyannesian hijacking of the Hectopaanian fishing boat, Saint Marie, off the coast of a small uninhabited island in the Conitian Gulf.

SOLEDSTAD, HALKVAR PROVINCE Over the last few days, the Soledan Airforce in the Yzerkati Republic destroyed several regime targets in the capital city of Mochimai, that were vital for the day-to-day functionality for the regime. Yes, even the royal palace; it was used as an operations centre for coordination of troops and supplies to the front according to sources whose origin is classified, and no matter what sort of ''historical importance'' it once had is irrelevant to the future of Yzerkatu. The future of Yzerkatu must lie in the people, in democratic and fair hands, not in the iron fists of Royalist dictator Dalan II. Viva SOLED has acquired direct evidence through pictures and stories from people living in regime territory that detail how the regime, facing defeat after defeat and less and less resources to keep on, tortures and kills anyone deemed unworthy and threating to the regime. Ethnic Yzerkatis still in regime-controlled territory face barbaric persecution by regime forces and the general population alike.

The complicated current situation of Yzerkatu is a result of decades-old brewing of hate and oppression under the disguise of a peaceful, tropical resort country. Benelovent but greedy monachs, a Soledan-backed junta dictator, a brief period of democracy and the paranoid and despotic monarch currently on the Yzerkati ''throne'', Dalan II, who is wanted by the Soledan and Republican Yzerkati governments for crimes against humanity and interdomestic terror. He is personally responsible for turning peaceful demostrations for change into one of Esquarium's bloodiest civil wars and his unsuccesfull attempts at subordinating all opposition have went pretty badly.

In this current moment, the Yzerkati Free Front is not alone in battling the terrorist regime. Various smaller splinter groups have formed throughout the war's five years, of which the Southern Yzerkati Christian Liberation Front of Our Father Christ and the Lord, mostly just called the Southern Yzerkati Liberation Front (SYLF) control the southeasternmost parts of Yzerkatu, where the ethnic Yzerkati population is only moderate due to centuries of colonisation but anti-Mochimai sentiment is also high. The SYLF acts more as a populistic seperatist militia that wishes to create a ''Southern Yzerkati'' state under traditional christian ideals. Viva SOLED notes that the SYLF is classified as a ''domestic militia organisation of special concern'' by the Soledan government, and not a terrorist organisation, due to it's close cooperation with the YFF in battling the regime forces, despite ideological differences. Their leadership and exact goals remain unkown.

The Soledan Armed Forces in Yzerkatu's Supreme Commander Yhakarlos Måpan represents Soledan interests and operations in Republican Yzerkatu and Soled mantains a consulate in Giwhéewawhamú. All Soledan Armed Forces operations in Yzerkatu are done in cooperation with the Yzerkati Free Front, including the Mochimai assault a few days ago. The Soledans and Yzerkatis cooperate closely in friendship and benevolence, unlike the Royalist hierarchic system of fear and terror - similar to former ASQ leader Ngo Huu Tra. Viva SOLED believes that the Soledan government is doing the right thing in defending the Yzerkati people's rights.

Azarad Kazakawhaemae and Yhakarlos Måpan commended the Soledan aerial assaults on Mochimai in a press conference this morning, with Azarad stating that ''The [Sol.] Socialist Republic and the Yzerkati Republic are in great joy over the destruction of vital regime operational buildings [...] and we will continue to fight the regime until we stab traitor Dalan II in the heart'' he also pleaded for foreign nations and leaders to support the anti-regime forces, calling it a ''vital part of our national revolution'' to receive foreign aid. ''Almost all our forces are landlocked and dependent on long and tiresome travels by air for support and humanitarian aid [...] the Soledans aid us and common Yzerkatis in liberated territories well, and to ensure that our national revolution succeeds after these long five years [...] it is time for the greater international community to act, for the sake of all Yzerkatis.'' Yhakarlos added just after, stating ''This five-year long war is not being fought for nothing. The illegimate royalist regime is diplomatically isolated, even by other authoritarian monarchies in Esquarium, for a good reason. The scale of human rights violations, genocide and murders that they approve and condone is horrid and unacceptable [...] Soled reaffirms it's stance on the conflict; we will not give up until the Yzerkati Republican banner is raised on every building in Yzerkatu and the King is gone. Long live Yzerkatu!'' The hall of 2500 people, composed of the press, high-ranking members of the YFF, selected soldiers and families, celebrated as the national anthem of Yzerkatu, Yzeriza, Yzeratos, Yzerkati, played right after the speeches.

On the news of the front, the Yzerkati Free Front and the radical christian Southern Yzerkati Liberation Front are tearing up regime resistance in southeastern Yzerkatu, with many regime forces reportedly abandoning their positions as their defenses break up by continuous bombardments and assaults. Viva SOLED interviewed Commander Wujamwhae Oazayikiwhmik of the YFF, who believes that ''the regime forces can be defeated everywhere south of Porto Nuevesud in a pair of weeks'' and called this month, with the combination of that and the Mochimai assaults, a ''turning point in our national revolution. Victory for the Yzerkati people is drawing closer''. The front near Mochimai has reportedly stalled after the successfull YFF charge on Moichimé. Regime forces might have drawn forces out of the troubled southeast in order to prevent a downfall of Mochimai. Stay tuned...

More Nevan forces arrive in Lecistan as government warns that any unauthorized outside interference in the Grand Druchy could trigger a "world war"

ŠIMUNGOTŠ - First soldiers of the King of Arkiasia's 60th Grenadier Regiment, the first part of the 1st Grenadier Division that has been relocated to Lecistan to combat the terrorist insurgency, arrived in the capital city of Šimungotš today. A small parade was held in front of the main railway station where the Grenadiers were welcomed by Lecistani, Filimon and Nevan troops.

The Grenadiers, who were first transported to the Filimon coastal city of Sänt Fernänd on Navy vessels and then put on special troop trains which took them to Šimungotš are expected to spearhead the attack on the northern parts of the country where the terrorist insurgency is still ongoing. Two more regiments are expected to arrive in the country within the next few days. According to the of the regiment Colonel Johannes Vallinheimo, "we expect that with the help of both Lecistani and Filimon forces, constitutional order will be restored to the entire Grand Duchy within the next two to three weeks.

Meanwhile in Nevanlinna, the Foreign Ministry issued a stern letter to the Odissian government demanding them to ramp up border security on the Odissian-Lecistani border. "Odissia has kept its border with Lecistan closed for years, separating mothers from their sons and wives from their husbands. But recently the Odissian government has allowed hundreds of terrorists cross the border into Lecistan to partake in violence against not only innocent Lecistani civilians, but against Nevan soldiers as well. This is unacceptable, and we want to make it clear that these terrorists, who are not wearing an uniform and use civilians as human shields, are not protected by any international treaty that regulates rules of war and will be treated accordingly. We urge the Odissian government to increase their border patrols and stop contributing to the human suffering that is taking place in Lecistan."

The Ministry also warned that "any unauthorized interference in Lecistan not authorized by the legitimate Lecistani government would be seen as a declaration of war against all realms of His Royal Majesty. As of now, the Grand Duke has authorized only Filimon troops to participate in operations on Lecistani soil: troops of any other nation, whether those troops are regular or irregular, have no right to violate the sovereign territory of His Royal Majesty, and the nations partaking in such operations could risk triggering a world war."

Since the terrorist insurgency began, 67 Nevan soldiers have fallen while fighting against terrorist militias. King Juhani III ordered all Nevan flags fly at half-staff when the coffins of first eight Nevan soldiers arrived in the Nevan capital today. The King personally laid a wreath on the coffins of the soldiers which were lying in state in the New Guardhouse, while the Royal Musical Corps played Aseveikko, a traditional Nevan military funeral song. The King held a brief speech afterwards: "On behalf of the Nevan people, I wish to say goodbye to these sons of Nevanmaa who have joined the eternal fähnlein guarding our realm. Let us respect the memory of these proud warriors who will soon begin their final journey across the streets and avenues of Nevanlinna. They shall be followed by subjects of a grateful nation."

MONTCARLE, OSONIA - Prime Minister Lorenço Eduard Domenech de Rubalcaba has announced an emergency summit of the members of the Southeast Oriental Entente (SOE), to respond to both the ongoing crisis in Lecistan and the recent formation of the "Pact of the Four Crowns" between the South Conitian monarchies of Lecistan, Filimons, Lyannesia, and Aldenya. This came days after Filimons announced it was sending troops to prop up Lecistan's Royal Nevan-backed monarchy.

Speaking to reporters this morning over the surprise announcement, the Prime Minister added that "the continued acts by the Nevanlinna royalist regime to spread its influence across South Conitia, evidenced by their continued support for the regime in Ximungòtx and the formation of this so-called Pact, should be a cause of alarm among those who value peace and freedom in the continent. Osonia will not stand by and watch as the region is consumed under the Nevan Royalist jackboot, and neither should the rest of SOE do so." The Prime Minister also added that Osonia may provide humanitarian support to opposition forces "fighting for freedom and justice in Lecistan."

The Prime Minister later closed by stating "Osonians, and our Michillians friends, have paid so much, with their lives, fortunes, and their sacred honor, to free our lands from the Carlsbad yoke and their Nevan backers. And they are not about to allow the Nevanlinna regime put the chains back on our wrists. The premise of the Southeast Oriental Entente has been to contain Triumvirate influence in our backyard, but now, I am asking the members to help us contain and diminish the influence of the Nevanlinna regime as much as possible."

NEWS:Tia'raan, Pressure and the Kingdom

With tensions mounting in the Lazarene Sea, the Regime in Teruesca has decided to recognize the Kingdom of Osonia and the Michillies

TERUESCA - A few days after signing of the abomination that is the Pact of Four Crowns, the newest puppet-sock of Nevanmaa in the Lazarene Sea, the government of Lyannesia, has taken new steps to alienate it's neighbors, following the stupid and unreasonable policy dictated by Nevanlinna in regards to South Conitia. In a move that no reasonable person would have expected, but certainly one that Juhani would suggest, the Lyannesian Confederation has officially decided to hand over diplomatic recognition to the "legitimate government of Osonia and Michillies, the Kingdom" throwing any possibility for negotiations with Michillies down the well. The decision seems to have been taken in face of promises from Nevanmaa for further economic and military aid towards the Chevé administration, that has trouble consolidating it's rule within Lyannesia.

This was not expected. To say that this decision is stupid and unreasonable is an underestimation of the true magnitude of the situation. Lyannesia is now a loyal Nevan puppet, a stronghold of Juhani's monarchist policies in South Conitia. Recognizing the Carlsband dynasty as the rightful rulers of Michillies and Osonia, a dynasty that one and half century ago Lyannesia sought to actively remove from power in Michillies, a dynasty that was a traditional enemy of the Confederation and it's interests in face of the "Republican danger" and the other threats the parrots of the Pact of Four Crowns like to whine about, is a betrayal of the policy regarding it's neighbors that this nation has followed since it's early days. Fully in the grip of Nevanmaa and isolated from it's South Conitian friends, Lyannesia is now forced to walk a dangerous and unknown path. But this is not the only thing the Chevé has achieved within so little time from the moment it seized power.

The Conitian Gulf, although historically a point of contest between the Protectorate and the Confederation was never a reason for the two nations to not maintain cordial relations. However, it seems that the destruction of the relations with Masseau and Michillies, if not all of non-Pact South Conitia, is not enough for Nevanllina and it's puppets in Teruesca. The Lyanensian Coast Guard apparently boarded an innocent fishing ship, treated it's crew without basic humanity and respect and is illegally holding in in one of the many ports of Leon. This does not seem to be the only provocation though on behalf of the Regime. Yesterday, men of the Lyannesian Coast Guard, together with the infamous 1st Airborne Brigade of the Lyannesian Army, landed on all three of the small gulf islands, and raised there the Lyannesian flags, taking photographs which were promptly published in big outlets of Lyannesia and presented as a "victory" for the Lyannesian people and armed forces against "Republican provocation". Tia'raan which was only a day ago forced into a defensive alliance with Soled over the provocative actions of the Teruesca regime, may now face renewed empty threats from Chevé and his goons, over an issue that for centuries has not yet led to an crisis or bad relations between the two nations.

Let us all hope the situation will not escalate further, and this will the end of this farce.

Kùmiéga: ‘Royal Michillian and Osonian Government-in-Exile travel documents will be accepted; we will continue recognising and respecting the current republican governments in Michillies and Osonia’

In an interview given to RAF – Radio-Televizsió dæ Filimöns, the Filimon national broadcaster, Emma Kùmiéga, the Commonwealth's External Affairs Commissar, announced Filimon authorities will accept travel documents issued by the Royal Michillian and Osonian Government-in-Exile. The External Affairs Commissar stated the the Filimon government would continue ‘recognising and respecting’ the governments of the Most Serene Republic and the Republic of Osonia; Ms Kùmiéga made it clear that government-in-exile would not be afforded official recognition by the Commonwealth of Filimons.

A subsequent written statement from the External Affairs Commissariat clearly enunciated Ms Kùmiéga words by affirming the ‘the Commonwealth's recognition of the current republican governments of Michillies and Osonia as the legitimate governments of the aforementioned states’. The statement's final sentences suggested a more extensive proclamation will be issued by senior state officials on the matter in the coming days. Indeed, Vilnna municipal authorities have started preparing the city's Umberto Roublei Square for a government gathering of unknown magnitude and significance. Most analysts have dismissed the possibility of a military parade arguing Commonwealth Square is typically used for events of that kind owing to its proximity to the Palace of the Commonwealth, the seat of the Rïksamblé.

The Education Commissariat of the Commonwealth of Filimons has announced it will encourage the study of the national languages of the member-states of the Pact of Four Crowns and the Nevan Realm through its newly established Pact Language Institute in order to ‘foster closer relations with the the Commonwealth's allies’. The Pact Language Institute will function as a ‘special division’ of the Education Commissariat Language Centre which is part of a vast government initiative established to encourage the study of foreign languages in general.

The Education Commissariat Language Centre has re-assured the media of its commitment to continue teaching the national languages of non-Pact nations and especially the languages of non-Pact South Conitian nation-states which it refers to as ‘sister-nations’ due to the ‘shared linguistic heritage’ between Filimons and many nations in the continent. According to Maria Ilmÿch, the the Language Centre's deputy director, the languages of non-Pact South Conitian countries will ‘likely’ continue to be the most popular amongst the Filimon populace; she added the Odissian and Michillian languages are expected to remain particularly popular amongst Filimon students. Furthermore, Ms Ilmÿch stated these programmes' funding would remain ‘intact or perhaps increase’.

The birth of modern republicanism in Vestmark goes
back to the Independence Revolution

It isn’t everyday that the usually politically apathetic, consumerist population of Vestmark gets up in arms about something, except perhaps yesterday when hundreds of protestors converged in the center of Grundholt, chanting slogans and waving signs that said, “out of Masseau now,” and “dethrone King Edvard.” (Note to foreigners: Sven Edvardsson is not the king of Vestmark, he is the Prime Minister.) The Edvardsson government had faced criticism over the handling of the Nevan-Michilles conflict in the Lazarene Sea, and in protest to the war, huge pro-republican, pro-Michilles demonstrations had disrupted the city center near the Folksþingi. The protestors were flying the flag of Michilles alongside the “white-blue”, or the Vestmarkic Free State flag, the flag flown by the republican revolutionaries during the Independence Revolution. To the outsider, this is unusual - what was one of the biggest monarchies in Nordania doing with a republican movement that dwarfs most other nations save perhaps the similar Latin Republics of South Conitia?

To understand why a constitutional monarchy had been so pro-republican in the past, it is worth delving into Vestmark’s past. The “crowned republic” came into being with the October Compromise, in which both moderate conservative royalist and liberal republican factions had avoided a civil war by conceding a bit to each other - the royalists wanted the reinstatement of the old monarchy, but were willing to concede it’s power tremendously to the parliament (the folk’s thing). Liberalism on the other hand, was influenced by the ancient democratic tradition which itself was entirely pagan in origin - the earliest liberals were exclusively pagans and likewise pagan beliefs alongside a surge of romanticism had partially fueled the modern republican movement. Now, you may ask me, "well, what does this have to all do with the protests?" Well, the modern republican movement is merely the continuation of the liberal faction's republican manifesto (the Vestmarkic socialist movement, too, is pro-republic, but their main focus is on securing the so called "rights" of the workers before everything else. In addition, some socialists tend to have a more skeptical view of the republicanism supported by the liberal majority.) Vestmarkic republicans draw from this tradition in their attempt to change the course, and as usual they tend to be the most successful during times when they can tap into popular public sentiment. The most recent surge of republicanism is thought to have stemmed from the public outcry over Vestmark's involvement in the Nevan-Michillies crisis, and there is a strong movement to "fire" the prime minister and dissolve his cabinet, who had been the center of the whole controversity.

This wouldn’t be the first time since the Independence Revolution that Vestmarkers would advocate for a change in government over a greater conflict. A wave of republicanism had taken ahold of the nation before during the Fjølden War, particularly after the bombing of Tryggia where satisfaction with the current government was at an all time low along with “national morale.” However, it is hotly debated whether the republican movement is justified at all, or whether it’s just the current generations frustrations lashing out at the most obvious targets (similar to both arguments is the fact that the current “culture war” between the left and right tends to flare during times where the identity of Vestmark is thrown into question.) Sometimes, the “republican question” can be seen solely as a matter of identity politics that preoccupy the nation when there is nothing else going on. However, while Vestmarkic republicanism can said to be more of a cultural movement that seeks to supplant “unfavorable symbolism,” and therefore of little concern to “moderate pragmatists,” Vestmark’s position in NOSDO, international alliances and foreign relationships, and even public policy would all be significantly affected by a transition to a republic. The revolutionaries knew this very well and even though they failed to turned Vestmark into a republic, they implemented some very long lasting republican ideals that had affected Vestmarkic foreign policy for the last 150 years. For example, it was republican values that lead many civilians to aid the Sæxish republicans during the Sæxish civil war, ultimately influencing the outcome of the war as a whole. Republicanism is so ingrained into our culture that it seems almost absurd that we would be anything but. It may be “identity politics” to some, but becoming a republic has real socio-political implications that cannot be ignored. And that is precisely why a referendum is needed.

People's Republican Army of Lecistan secure Brzny as Filimon soldiers arrive. Attacks in southwest increase.

SZIMÓNGÔCZ - Contacts in the Lecistani Army have confirmed today that they have been pushed back towards the suburbs of Brzny and the terrorist People's Republican Army of Lecistan (PRAL) has taken over most key areas of the city and surrounding villages. General Pioter Milsz, commander of the Northern Forces has stated that he plans to either strike the city with the help of Filimon reinforcements, or "starve out the republicans by blockading Brzny and destroying all connected infrastructure".

Brzny has acted as a battlefield since July 27th, when a bomb exploded in city hall and the PRAL, led by Matéùsz Szmolak, began occupying the streets. In response, all other major urban areas and military compounds have been put on high alert. The Lecistani Army has released a report detailing the current death tolls in Brzny:

- 280 Lecistani soldiers and officers.
- 102 Nevan soldiers and officers.
- 95 PRAL terrorists.
- 482 civilians.
- Total of 959 casualties.

Meanwhile, on the border with Odissia, numerous attacks on Army convoys and various villages have been attributed to the Odissian Alliance, a paramilitary group tied with the PRAL. The Odissian Alliance has primarily focused on recruitment and gaining support from Lecistan's large Odissian minority, but has in the past week engaged in fighting, securing numerous farms and villages outside of Pôrma Lekkëbsczi and Nowi Krësztina, and generally causing issues with the Lecistani Army in regards to patrolling the Odissian border. Roughly 357 have died in attacks in the southwest.

Sports Ministry Publishes New Manifesto
New Sports Minister Under Zheng Not Even Chosen Yet

The Ministry of Sports is currently being ran by the three Vice Ministers whilst Zheng Zhuli attempts to form a Cabinet. Zheng isn't even elected Premier yet, but today the Jahistic Union's Ministry for Sports announced sweeping new reforms that have drawn some controversy (and praise) from some Assemblypeople and the general public.

The manifesto declared that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Jahistic Union had granted them the right to act parallel to them for sporting purposes. This could potentially mean that Unolian baseball players could engage in a "Friendly Series" with Namorese or Nevan players, despite boycotts and lack of official recognition, respectively. A "Friendly Series" with Namor was backed by the Great Leader, Jarrod Thuman, before his untimely demise in 2014. Zheng Zhuli's relatively soft attitude on Namor could make this one of the easier things to get through the Assembly.

Other things called for included three more professional leagues and further propagation of international sports. This includes the currently "failed" Esquarian Games, a multi-sport event that was hosted in 2014 by the Jahistic Republic of Unolia but abandoned after the Summer version failed due to a natural disaster in Ainin. The policy that will now be adopted will be to "subsidize international competition of all stripes, even those the Union may not participate in." Also, the policy calls for "an international, apolitical organization of all Esquarian nations and peoples to create and participate in many games and activities to promote positive ties and mutual understanding."

It is widely expected that social-imperialists including Nevanmaa and Namor will reject these proposals due to their natural and incomprehensible hatred of the Jahistic Union. Some other nations may be skeptical about the Union's standing as a Revolutionary country. The Jahistic Union has been shunned before, so this would make tragic sense.

Some people inside of the Union, however, have shown skepticism. Richard Thompson of Unolia Tonight fame started his program roasting marshmallows over a flame kindled by Unolian Liras and Gold Notes. He explained to the audience that this was "taxpayer money being wasted for sports." The plan would likely double the Jahistic Sports budget and increase government and Party subsidization of sport. Yet, some say this a worthy expense.

Others argue that leagues like the Unolian Handball System, which operates on no subsidization at all and operating so much in the black that Nevanmaa won't let it marry whites or vote, is shining example of Capitalism at work. Currently, the Sports Ministry plans on creating public leagues for Ultimate Disc (Frisbee), Soccer/Football, and shooting. Resources would also be poured into the national teams that Unolia fields and various sporting competitions it may host.

Aether, Kharvaania - Earlier today, a spokesperson for the Aether Palace released a statement on their website and to media outlets, acknowledging the behavior of the Lyannesian government in the Conitian Gulf. In the several paragraph long statement, the Aether Palace has made it clear that the Lyannesian government has committed a "gross infringement on Protectorate territorial waters." The statement continues stating that the islands are of "Tia'raan property and sovereignty, and should not be infringed upon by any outside influence." The Palace also calls for the return of the Hectopaanian fishing boat which was stolen two days ago by the Lyannesian Coast Guard.

President Talbot is expected to return tomorrow and make call for a press conference in regards to this incident.

Today, the alliance has over 7 members including Vitoria, Kenzibwe, Osonia, and others.

Tia'raan has been faced recently with tough diplomatic issues with Lyannesian encroaching upon Tia'raan sovereignty in the Conitian Gulf, and the foundation of the Pact of the Four Crowns, putting the Pro-Republic nation on edge, and with the 2016 elections approaching, it is no doubt that the SOE will play a vital role in the Presidential elections. EDITORIAL: Why the Pact of Four Crowns is isolating themselves from Esquarium

On July 30th, Aldenya, Filimons, Lecistan and Lyannesia signed the Pact of Four Crowns that would unite the only monarchies on the continent of South Conitia, earning praise from all of the leaders of those countries. As the Aldenyan king said, "I firmly believe that the Pact will help to promote peace and stability in the entire region". This is one of the most unintelligent comments ever to come out of a human mouth. The Southeast Oriental Entente, co-founded by Masseau, Michillies and East Cortoguay in 2004 was created to respond to Luziycan, Triumvirate, and Triumvirate-sponsored (think West Cortoguay) aggression on the Continent of South Conitia. Since then, five nations have joined, including Tia'raan. By founding this pact, they have cut off pretty much all relations with their SOE counterparts, and have even committed aggression against them.

The Republican movement in Lecistan has only contributed to the madness, with Filimon and Nevan soldiers joining the fight against the rebels. Personally, I understand; having your leader also lead and live in another country isn't exactly optimal. And our neighbors to the east, Lyannesia, have fucked themselves over by a) recognizing a comically delusional kingdom that has not controlled the territory they claim for 100 years. And with the introduction of Chevé as their leader, the have b) committed crimes against Masseans living in the eastern parts of the country, and c) capturing a Tia'raanian fishing boat (this is the example of committing aggression against a nation in the SOE). Now, their relations with Masseau are at an all time low, lower than their relations with Masseau at the time of the Masseau-Lyannesia Border War in 1952, of which Masseau won, gaining 4 km of territory. Masseau has put 15,000 personnel on the border with Lyannesia, warning them that committing one more crime against innocent people "will not be tolerated" by the Massean government.

Nevanmaa is creating crisis around the world: causing important and civilized, developed, first-world nations like Geadland and Arkiasis to leave or strongly consider leaving one of the largest alliances in Esquarium and has caused tensions in the alliance between the left and right-wing countries. With a end in sight for the alliance, there are not as many threats to keep the Triumvirate at bay, and none in Northwest Esquarium. Back to my point, this alliance of Nevan puppet states has only created more tension between the 4 Crowns and the SOE. With Masseau hosting an emergency meeting soon to discuss the recent events, it only seems more likely that the 4 Crowns will continue to align themselves with Nevanlinna and its allies, and continue to isolate themselves from nations that don't use a form of monarchy as a government. And with an ongoing republican movement in Vestmark, the latter is sure to grow.

Shock poll reveals support for NOSDO exit ahead for first time

A poll has shown support for leaving NOSDO at an all time high, and ahead of support for remaining a member for the first time. The Epinion poll, which is the first published since the recent Geadish exit, put backing for an exit at 46%, compared to 42% of respondents who said Britanno should stay in the alliance. The results are the latest evidence of a surge in opposition to continued membership of NOSDO - just last month 61% were polled as backing membership but growing support for exits in Arkiasis, Geadland and Vyvland have propelled the issue forward.

The military defence organisation has been surrounded in controversy in recent months. Major campaigns to leave NOSDO sprung up across northern Esquarium late last year after the Nevan monarch sacked the government for backing a failed referendum to extend suffrage to more women and non-white men. Both Britannon and Geadish governments - along with a majority in the Vyvlander Parliament - called for Nevanmaa to go, but opposition from the Prime Ministers of Vjaarland and Vyvland blocked the expulsion. The Roubao crisis quietened the issue of NOSDO's relevance, but recent Nevan actions against Michillies following the royal wedding bombings have raised concerns that Britanno could be dragged into a war it doesn't support.

While just 32% would supporting leaving NOSDO if Nevanmaa wasn't a member, attempts to remove the socially conservative monarchy will likely fail at this week's summit due to a Vjaarlandic veto. This will only heighten pressure on the Britannon government to follow the lead of Geadland, which quit the organisation last week after the Prime Minister lost a vote in Parliament. Marcus Browning has said he remains opposed to leaving, but he may struggle to gain a majority in Parliament to support his stance. The Liberal Alliance, which provides parliamentary support to the government, has said it will vote to leave, meaning Browning will be forced to rely on SDP backbench rebels as well as absolute unity to the party whip amongst his own government MPs.

Cooper rumoured to still be considering bid for party leadership

James Cooper is rumoured to still be contemplating a potential challenge for the Conservative leadership against Prime Minister Marcus Browning. The Defence Minister has reportedly been approached by several MPs from the Hanrickite wing of the party who long for a return to the centre ground pursued by former Prime Minister Anthony Hanrick. While Cooper has publicly denied any reports of a coup, aides have repeatedly refused to rule out the possibility of a chairmanship contest. Many Conservatives are concerned over dismal polling numbers amid a surge in support for the Social Democrats under newly elected leader Leanne Jensen. According to sources, Cooper has won the backing of at least two cabinet ministers and a third of Conservative MPs.

The speculation is simply the latest feud between the constantly warring liberal "Hanrickite" and conservative "Browningite" factions of the party. Since Anthony Hanrick stood down after losing the 2006 general election following seven years as Prime Minister, Browning's more right-wing approach has been at the centre of Conservative Party policy. External Affairs Releases Preliminary Information About Four Party Security Arrangement:
Extends Military, Security Coordination Across the South Central and to the West
Apart from the President's attendance at the summit, Kansky announced preliminary details of negotiations for a security agreement in the South Central, and outer South Conitia region. The Four Party Security Agreement between West Cedarbrook and Kenzibwe, Prybourne and Luziyca, a neighbor across the South Central in Asenath, woul putatively be headquarted in Marsielle, Kenzibwe. The goals of the Arrangement include "fostering democracy and free enterpirse in southern and western South Conitia, support for Prybourne membership in the SOE, promoting peace and stability in Ocidenia following the fall of the Brozhave regeime, and military, law enforcement, financial, and communictions coordination among member states." Sources at External Affairs have reported that at least one Latin member of the SOE has given tacit approval to the Agreement, responding that "this extends coverage against further external adventurism on the contintent, and shows strong support for the goals of the SOE beyond the Latin block". Kansky promoted the Agreement at the press conference, saying "This alliance will serve as a firewall agains the spread of communism in South Conitia's West and Sub-polar regions on the one hand, and prove to those parties menacing our Latin neighbors that any mischief on the continent will never find safe harbor."

The Secretary went on to say "The Agreement represents states with a strong tradition of free enterprise and personal liberty within a republican framework. Recent events in the Lazarene have shown fecklessness on the part of those supporting the dictatorial West Cortoguayn communist who claim to be strongholds of liberty and free markets. That action puts the lie to their claims that republicanism as practiced in South Conitia presents any similarity or sympathy with the wretched and sordid system of Marxism. Joining Kansky at the press conference were ranking members of the Senate External Affairs Committee, Chairman James Asher and ranking minority member Jeb dunowsky. Asher confirmed to reporters that the committee had been briefed by Kansky about the summit and the Four Party Security Arrangement earlier in the day. Viewed as a leader of the "fire-eater" nationalistic branch of the Conservative Party, Asher strongly endorsed the Arrangement. "This agreement should put an end to interference such as we saw earlier this year in the Lazarene Sea crisis. That, along with Prybourne accession to the SOE should make it clear to the sober minded that aggression against a member SOE state would result in a bloody quagmire wherever they chose to strike, either on the continent or in the South Central." Nevan, Filimon and Lecistani forces begin a massive attack on the final terrorist strongholds in Lecistan

ŠIMUNGOTŠ - At around 4am on Wednesday morning, Nevan forces began a massive offensive operation against final terrorist strongholds in both Northern Lecistan and near the Odissian border. The attack began with massive artillery bombardment which was especially fierce in the northern city of Brzny, where Royal Artillery Corps pounded the city with artillery for several hours. Anti-terrorist forces entering the city were supported by aerial units from the Royal Nevan Air Force, which continued to provide air support for the troops well into the early morning hours.

Reports indicated that at least one aircraft and two helicopters had been shot down in the vicinity of Brzny, with several armored fighting vehicles being knocked out in the brutal street fighting which is still ongoing. Heavy damage to buildings and infrastructure was reported in the city center, though no official reports of civilian casualties have yet emerged.

According to Duke and General Rolf Tuura, "the combined forces managed to overrun terrorist positions, who proceeded to withdraw in disarray. While the fighting is still ongoing in the northern parts of the country where our forces are still assaulting the few remaining terrorist strongholds, near the Odissian border where the terrorists were not as organized the Royal Military Police forces have already began processing terrorist forces who have surrendered." Tuura refused to comment on Nevan casualties that have resulted from the operation, though it is estimated that an operation of this scale can potentially result in hundreds of casualties.

Tuura also stated that "some kind of camps will be established as early as today evening to process disarmed terrorist troops and to determine their role in the insurgency, and if necessary, punish them for crimes against the Grand Duke." Tuura also emphasized that "the terrorist forces won't be punished extrajudicially; each and every one will recieve a fair trial in a military court."

Juhani III "extremely disappointed by the Odissian king's decision to close Nevan embassy

NEVANLINNA - His Royal Majesty Juhani III has issued a statement regarding the decision of HM Jeremiah III's decision to close the embassy of the Kingdom of [Odissia,] Osonia and the Michillies in Nevanmaa, calling the decision "extremely unfortunate [...] I am disappointed that my good friend has decided to perform such a rash and unnecessary action."

The closure of the embassy was caused by the Nevan government's refusal to withdraw diplomatic recognition from the Union of Odissia. While Nevanmaa has recognized the Carlsbads as legitimate kings of the Michillies and Osonia for almost a century, Nevanmaa did not withdraw diplomatic recognition from the Odissian government after the illegitimate referendum deposed the monarchy. Over the years, Jeremiah III has repeatedly called for the recognition to be withdrawn.

Despite the decision, HRM promised that "Jeremiah and his family and servants can stay in the Lavonius Palace as long as they wish. It is their palace, and while I am disappointed in his decision I believe that we can reach an agreement which will please both parties."

While the King did not comment on Jeremiah's demand to withdraw recognition from the Odissian government, professor of international politics Taneli Virkkunen from the University of Nevanlinna commented that "it is highly unlikely that HRM would agree to Jeremiah's demands. Despite sanctions, Odissia is Nevanmaa's fourth largest trade partner in South Conitia after Filimons, Lyannesia and West Cedarbrook and HRM knows that recognizing Jeremiah as rightful ruler of Odissia would only antagonize Odissia further and push them towards the Michillian dogmatic republican camp."

For now, it seems that Nevanmaa will continue its ambiguous policy of recognizing the Odissian republican government while nevertheless respecting Jeremiah's claim to the Odissian throne. So far, Nevanmaa's position has been that "the Nevan government respects the republican constitution of Odissia, but believes that Jeremiah III remains the rightful king of Odissia and that his return to the throne can be achieved democratically." and that "the Odissian people will decide when they are ready for restoration". It will be likely that Jeremiah will have no choice but to accept the status quo: the King without a country is simply not in a position to issue orders and demand things he cannot possibly get.

WESTERN PREMIER RECOGNISES LAVONIUS GOVERNMENT

ASUNCIÓN, 4 AUGUST — Premier Arturo Peralta, the head of state of the communist West, appeared in a speech today announcing that "Our Great Socialist Paradise of True Cortoguay" withdrew recognition to the Most Serene Michillian Republic and of the Union of Odissia. In their place, it has recognised authority of the Lavonius Government in Nevanlinna, known to the international community as the "Royal Odissian Government-in-Exile".

Communist West Cortoguay has not had diplomatic relations with either Michillies or Odissia (and several other South Conitian nations, for that matter) since the Second North Cortoguay Conflict of 1949. Though it has de facto recognised the authority of both governments since then, this shocking development, one in a string of related developments throughout the region in the past few weeks, will mean any dealings with Michillies or Odissia will be handled with the GiE, headquartered in Nevanmaa for over 100 years. This has been attributed to the West's equally-astonishing alliance with Nevanmaa, brought about during the Lazarene Sea Crisis.

Premier Peralta briefly summed up the decision: "Our state of relations with the pig-dogs in Michillies and their puppet-state, Odissia, have not improved at all in the near-70 years of this great socialist paradise's existence. This is the culmination of decades of deceit, lies, and general uncooperativeness to try to improve our bilateral relations, while we have undoubtedly made every effort to do so; they are content with trying to shoot, bomb, and starve our nation out of existence. We, the people of True Cortoguay, have had enough of this lazy pig-dog attitude. We have realized that our only true ally in South Conitia is the [Royal] Odissi-Michillian government in the Lavonius, brutally exiled after the social-imperialist rebellions decades ago. This is why diplomatic recognition and relations must be extended to them, the only other ones who have a plan how to rebuild South Conitia. While we may not see eye-to-eye in every political issue, our end goal is the same: liberation of the people of Cortoguay and of South Conitia from the menace of the Michillian Authority and it's client states."

Intercepted uncoded messages from the government in Los Dopicos indicate that the communist government is contemplating withdrawing recognition of Osonia as well, in keeping with the Lavonius's claim over the region.

Classified sources strongly suggest that a possible major factor in this decision is the possibility that the Lavonius promised to turn over North Cortoguay, as well as possibly some other territories, in the event that they regained power, in exchange for this full recognition. This would follow the string of monarchist events in South Conitia, including the ascension of Nevan Juhani III as Grand Duke of Lecistan and the creation of the Pact of Four Crowns; it is entirely possible that the Western government predicted a monarchist takeover of South Conitia sometime in the near future.

President Tomas Jarramillo briefly explained East Cortoguay's position on the decision in a press conference. Among his statements were "Premier Peralta's decision criminally overestimates the actual level of stability in [South Conitia]. This has tipped the already dangerously-tipping balance of power, making a large-scale war all the more probable." and "I have met with my analysts, and we are in agreement that we do not understand the Premier's decisions at all. He rants about 'worker's equality' and the 'yoke of social-imperialist control' while systematically oppressing his people and affiliating himself with undemocratic, unconstitutional monarchies like Nevanmaa and the delusional megalomaniacs in the Lavonius."
He confirmed that East Cortoguay would make no move to in any way recognize the Lavonius Government, or as he put it, "endanger the national integrity and democracy of Michillies".

While leaving the stage, the President was seen muttering something under his breath to an aide. Though it was denied by the President shortly after, the video of the press conference quickly went viral. "I swear to the Mother of God," he said, allegedly, "The man's crazy...they're all f**king crazy".

The Lavonius has yet to respond to this recent turn of events.

Furthermore, the Ederva, has been given the glory and praise to lead the patrol mission around the gulf islands, in order to make sure that no Tia'raanian scum attempt to land on the island our boys are holding any time soon. We are most certain that the Michillian puppets in the Aether Palace, who must act on behalf of Christiana, will stop questioning Lyannesia's undisputed sovereignty over the Conitian Gulf and it's isles.

TERUESCA - Once again, our friendly Republican neighbor, Masseau, has decided to threaten the independence of Lyannesia and the safety of two of the Confederal realms. Costa Sud and Firinestre by putting a large force in the border. This is an obvious reaction orchestrated by the government of Christiana, which refuses to accept what it calls 'Nevan Imperialism' in South Conitia. However, the Lyannesian Army Command has decided not to respond to this challenge with an equivalent show of force. Instead, the Chancellor has decided that simply all soldiers in the Kigndoms of Firinestre and Costa Sud will be put on high alert, and shall retain their strategically important defensive positions along the border, such as the historically disputed in the Border War, mountain passes.

Min Realm and Taigan sign treaty, Court members mum on reunification

Upon this day, the Realm of the Great Min and the Taiganese Empire, overseen by Their Glorious Majesties, His Majesty Yuihide and Her Highness Yuemori of Taigan, their respective Councils and Dignitaries has officially signed a mutual military and friendship agreement in the Taiganese capital of Shotatsu as a symbol of common goodwill, cooperation and harmonic coexistence of the historically united realms. The treaty, signed and shown to the public, called the "Dual Charter of Ten Points", emphasizes the seen necessity of ideological co-integration, military cooperation and mutual defense and co-sponsorship of culture and the arts between the two nations.

After the public sealing, the leaders of the two realms have given their various speeches and plans for their respective nations. SHACHIN, WEST NAMOR - Tao James, deputy for the 39th Legislative District in the Central Council and prominent Socialist Party politician, announced his bid for the presidency in the upcoming, nonetheless still distant NMR 2378 presidential election.

The 72 year-old famed Nantai defector announced his candidacy in Shachin, the capital of his home district in West Namor.

"I've been through many places and occupations during my lifetime, and I can tell you that power comes from the people, or at least that's how things should be. Now, we live in a so-called People's Republic where the powerful state-owned enterprises and businesspeople tell the people how they should live. This must stop, and it will stop if I receive the Socialist nomination and become your President-General," Tao said in his speech.

Responding to criticism that he cannot take office because of his age and background as an outlaw in occupied Nantai, Tao said he "knows what [he is] doing."

"I get it, okay? I know myself, I know that I fled somewhere, killed some folks and now the authorities want my head. It's always been like that for me, and trust me, it's going to be fine. Our country's relations with the Luziycans are so important nowadays that I don't think they're going to cut off ties just because there's an evil communist defector in office," he said to the crowd, eliciting laughter. "Plus, there's a left-winger who is about to win the elections there, so things won't be that screwed up. Just wait and see.

"And some folks have been telling me I can't run because I'm 72, that taking office would result in me getting eight diseases and closer to death than I ever was. Well, if that's the case, I wouldn't be running, and I've fought in a war and survived. So with all due respect I think I'll survive a presidency too," he continued, followed by laughter from the crowd.

Tao James is by far the first prominent politician to announce his bid for the presidency. Other potential candidates and presidential hopefuls have yet to throw their hats into the ring. So far, he is the only person within the Socialist Party to seek the party's nomination, although it is widely speculated that party leader Gongchan Zhushi will join the race as well. Political analysts have long asserted that a few candidates will announce their candidacy early to gain a foothold in the election.

Tao, born NMR 2305 in Kenyen, West Namor, gained nationwide attention after hijacking a Luziycan military vehicle and driving it into unoccupied Namorese territory. He is wanted by the Luziycan government, which seeks to punish him on charges of desertion, theft, murder and hijacking - crimes that may lend him the death penalty if he is to return to Luziyca or Nantai.

Chorea, Namor announce joint mourning period for tsunami victims

OLACHOO, CHOREA - The governments of the People's Republic of Namor and Chorea issued a joint statement announcing that the two countries will both observe a period of mourning lasting from August 8 to August 18 in memory of the victims of the deadly tsunami that has killed over 2,000 people so far.

The statement, presented by Namorese President-General Fu Wen and Chorean Prime Minister Cho Ke-te, comes as the Chorean Interior Ministry released its latest update on the dead body count that is ongoing in the country. Over 2,500 people have been confirmed dead in Chorea, with well over a million people still displaced.

In Namor, the Ministry of Public Security said it has found over 430 dead bodies. Both Namorese and Chorean authorities say more bodies will be found as the search and rescue efforts continue, and that it may take years before all victims are accounted for.

A deadly tsunami hit the coasts of Chorea and Namor on July 19, killing thousands of people and forcing thousands more to leave their homes. It was the most devastating tsunami to hit the area in years. Chorean government officials have called it a major logistical problem for the country because official shelters are not enough in number, leading to many temporarily residing in the streets.

Donation drives are underway to alleviate the suffering experienced by people affected by the disaster. The Namorese Red Cross raised P35 million ($5 million) in contributions to the recovery effort. Just yesterday, the Central Council overwhelmingly approved of an aid package worth P350 billion ($50 million) that will be immediately delivered to disaster-struck areas, including those in Namor.

Pickle office evacuated after bomb threat

MOJING, EAST NAMOR - The Pickle's office in Mojing was evacuated after the discovery of a bomb threat inscribed in a public bathroom.

Police say the office of the Namorese parody news organization and other buildings nearby were evacuated after a message written in spray-paint calling for the bombing of everybody inside the Pickle office was spotted. The threat explicitly mentioned Pickle editor Yu Ta and several other writers. Police added that the threat also contained "several words written in a foreign language" with "religious overtones."

No incident befell the office or those inside, and by evening police concluded that the threat was a false alarm. Mojing Municipal Security Chief Chang Shikang said he is still investigating the incident, but refused to name any suspected individuals or groups.

Nonetheless, many are saying the bomb threat is related to a recent string of threats directed at The Pickle from supporters of Notasian terror organization "The Caliphate." An alleged "Caliphate" video showed an elderly Namorese fighter threatening the satire group if it continued to ridicule the "Caliphate"'s activities.

Responding to the threat, Pickle editor Yu Ta said, "This isn't the first time something like this happened. Of course you're going to have some who aren't amused by what we're doing."

Traitor to be given clemency by President

KENYEN, NANTAI - At a campaign stop, just days before the next debate in Yerevan, Lombardia, President Breuvi Shjoraski has approved clemency to noted traitor and murderer running for office, Private Tao James, who is currently wanted for desertion, one count of theft over ₤5,000, one count of theft under ₤5,000, one count of first-degree murder, one count of carjacking and one count of treason.

President Breuvi Shjoraski said that "with the recognition of the rise in popularity of Tao James in Namor, and with the potential of having a Socialist president-general born within our territory, it is clear that if in the event he gets elected, relations may cool as a result of him being barred from visiting the land of his birth, the Christian Republic of Luziyca."

The clemency that Shjoraski gave Tao James were as follows:

Private Tao James shall be dishonorably discharged from the Luziycan Armed Forces for desertion, theft, murder, carjacking and treason
Private Tao James shall be permitted to visit the Christian Republic for fifteen days in a one year period for personal reasons (i.e. to reunite with relatives), and for sixty days in a given year for business and/or diplomatic reasons
James' Luziycan citizenship shall be revoked from the fifth of August: thus, he shall only be considered to be a Namorese citizen and will not be eligible to all the rights that apply only to citizens (i.e. unable to get a Luziycan passport, vote in Luziycan elections or run for office in Luziyca)
Private Tao James shall be barred from returning to Luziyca to reside there permanently: should he return, the charges shall be reinstated and he shall be tried

Shjoraski said, "I am giving him clemency, as a sign to Namor that we are willing to forgive him. He may have betrayed our nation, but he is like any other man. His mistakes were serious, but I am not willing to risk detente should he wind up becoming President-General."

There was a lot of controversy as a result of Shjoraski granting clemency to Private Tao James, mainly due to his defection to the People's Republic of Namor in 1997.

Outgoing Nantainese chief executive Kung Alicia has stated that "Tao James was a traitor. The fact that President Breuvi Shjoraski has given him clemency shows that he is panda-ing to the brothers who seek to destroy our culture and identity, which we Nantainese have preserved for so long, shows that he does not care about us. He only cares about Namo: but what about us, the people of Nantai who are loyal to this dear fatherland?"

As well, the leader of the National Luziycan Party, Narsete La Via has sharply criticized Shjoraski saying that "this action dishonors everyone else in the unit. That traitor, James Tao, had the audacity to betray our fatherland, our countrymen who have sworn to support our troops. He goes out of the way to betray our trust. Why should we give him anything less than death?"

In Kenyen, there were some criticism of Shjoraski's decision: Ru Cheng led a protest march criticizing his defection to Namor.

Ru explained that "He has not apologized for what he did when he betrayed the country. A while ago, he even said that all Nantainese wanted to join Namor, and that the Luzzies were not fooling anybody. He does not deserve clemency, nor should he get off on the charges. If anything, that has dipped my support of Shjoraski to a new low."

About 12,500 people participated in the march criticizing the decision to grant clemency to Tao James in Kenyen.

Despite hopes that Shjoraski could use it to catapult himself to a lead and displace Liberal leader Sera Svensson, he fell further behind since July 14th.

Recent poll have shown that Liberal Sera Svensson is now at 52 percentage points, which were six points higher than July 14th. There are 15 percentage points for Narsete La Via of the NLP, six higher than July 14th. The CLP leader Vonora Khendalor has risen four percentage points to seven percentage points, and the Socred leader, Paul Nikolovich has risen to four percentage points from a measly point.

The incumbent candidate, President Breuvi Shjoraski tumbled dramatically, from 39 points on July 14th to only 22 percentage points, a decrease of seventeen percentage points. Many have attributed it to his foreign policy and the decision to grant clemency to Tao James.

An analyst from TVV, Sireno Riccio has said that "the decision to grant clemency has caused the President to take a major tumble, combined with foreign policy decisions, like his proposal to form an alternative NOSDO alliance. I think that is the moment where Breuvi Shjoraski essentially committed political suicide. I think it would be an ice cube's chance in hell for Shjoraski to win re-election, especially with the decision to grant clemency to Tao James."
