Adulv Niyborg becomes 722,580,538,399th successor to Nevan throne
Image
Commenting on his becoming the 722,580,538,399th successor
to the Nevan throne, Adulv Niyborg said it shows Nevanmaa is
becoming an increasingly tolerant country
Nevanlinna, Nevanmaa/Vlud, Vyvland - Racial progress is being achieved step by step in Nevanmaa, so said Vyvlander businessman Adulv Niyborg after he was announced to become the 722,580,538,399th successor to the Nevan throne.

The announcement was made by Nevan monarch King Juhani III after he finished revising his list of successors, totaling 722,580,538,399 people.

Niyborg is on the bottom of the successors' list, trailing behind a block of cheese that occupies 722,580,538,398th place.

The inclusion of Niyborg to the list baffled Nevanmaa's critics worldwide, as no one had expected that it is possible for a man who is neither Nevan nor white to succeed Juhani and Juhani's successors.

But Niyborg says he's pleased.

"I never imagined this would happen," he told the press. "Nevanmaa's willingness to allow myself to take over as its ruler after 722,580,538,398 people are murdered shows that they're making a lot of progress. They're becoming an increasingly tolerant country."

Civil rights activists are not as enthusiastic. "They could've at least had the decency to place a human being above a non-living food product," said Chang Wan-hsiu of the Esquarian Human Rights Monitor.

The block of cheese, who some say is waiting for the 722,580,538,397 nobles to die before it does, is unavailable for comment.

Arnborg's troubles will not end after the invasion
Human rights advocates should praise the downfall of the Arnborgese regime and its apartheid, but they should also question what's to come next

CHANG WAN-HSIU is the head of EHRM's Information Center and the editor of Esquarian Light. Born and raised in Qianrong, he was an ardent opponent to the Free Democratic Republic and fled to Chorea to escape political repression. He now lives in Olachoo, playing a role in directing EHRM. You can follow him on Twitter at @ChangWanHsiu
Image
When he's gone, then what?
IT SEEMS a country may be on the road to leaving our list of countries with "very poor" human rights records soon, and it's not one you may expect. An international coalition led by Ainin is sweeping across the isolated island state like a storm. Arnborg's regime, one whose championship of racism we're long aware of, is nearing its end. There is no chance that the regime, which represents a small portion of the population and in recent years has been crippled by sanctions, can endure the coalition's military superiority. I don't usually comment on invasions; many of them are truly acts of aggression. But as the director of a human rights magazine, I've always dreamed of the day when Arnborg can be liberated from racism. Apparently, that day has come sooner than I thought, and I couldn't help feeling that years of campaigning on my part were not spent in vain.

But it's also because I'm the editor of a human rights magazine that I remind myself how the job isn't done yet. Sure, Arnborg will be free soon, but free from what exactly? Will it be free from the regime, or the system imposed by the regime - the system of racism, discrimination and hatred?

I want Arnborg to be freed of both, but deep down in my heart I fear I might be dreaming again. This invasion, after all, is an invasion. An invasion organized by external forces, instead of a revolution ignited by Arnborg's people. As much as the people want to be free, they most likely weren't aware that there was a plan to liberate their country until the plan was actually carried out. This would throw the country into pandemonium, and with that more unnecessary tensions.

I suspect most white Arnborgese, having reaped the benefits of the state's racist laws, are not too happy about the invasion. Many of them will not welcome the new government that the coalition props up and will resort to violence. On the other hand, I suspect most black Arnborgese will consider the downfall of the current regime a harbinger to a new era of endless vengeance. After all they've been through, they might have had enough with the oppression dealt upon them by the whites and leave no room for inter-racial reconciliation, one of the fundamental pillars in establishing a pluralistic society.

Then what? More oppression? More violence? More violations of human rights? Will Arnborg be worse off than it is now?

God forbid that's the case, but it's not unlikely. I've seen many cases where an oppressor is overthrown, by intervention or revolution, only to result in more deprivation of human dignity. Just take my native country. Remember the Winter Rebellion? Yes, my brethren overthrew an autocracy whose ouster was well deserved and long overdue. But look at me now: I'm still writing about human rights abuses happening there, abuses that no longer result from any megalomaniac in particular, but civil strife! You could make the argument that my country is worse off than it was before, but please, no "not as bad as" arguments. I got no time for that.

As the coalition inches its way closer to the overthrow of tyranny, we, the human rights activists of the world, can pat ourselves in the back and throw a party. But don't celebrate for too long - we've still got a long road ahead of us. As always.

THE RUMORS WERE RIGHT : PRIME CONSUL JOURNAY ANNOUNCED THAT HELEENTJE LANGBROEK IS THE NEW SECOND CONSUL, YANNICK JEGOU TO BE THE GOVERNMENT SPOKEPERSON. DISCOVER THE NEW GOVERNMENT.

Image
Heleentje Langbroek, president of the Union Party of Grand-Océan, will become the first ever Second Consul that
does not come from Francilie.

After the overthrowing of the Monfort-Valderbre government yesterday, Prime Consul Claire Journay got rid of her running mate of last January to put an unknown person as the Second Consul. Unknown for the Francilians. Because for the Fiennish, that's an eminent poitical figure of the Union Party of Grand-Océan (UPGO) : Heleentje Langbroek, president of the UPGO, Prime Minister of Grand-Océan between 2009 and 2011, Fiennish Secretary of Economy, Finance and Trade between 2013 and 2014 and now, Second Consul of the Federal Consulate. What a career ! As Sabine Fuchsersbergers, another Fiennish political figure from the Republican Party, now president of the Republican Party-Association of Hunters and Fishermen-Christan Democracy group in the Congress, this new title will contribute to her celebrity and prestige. However, "L'Aube" is not a people newspaper or something like that.

She will have the heavy duty of fixing the dysfunctionments of the EMV system. Shocking speeches (EMV nearly ended the relations of our country with the United Republics and messed with the Esquarian Community), internal disputes...Langbroek (we must call her "Her Excellency Helene Trijntje Geert van Laap-Langbroek the Second Consul" now ) has a long list of things to do. That's why she has decided to get rid of all the EMV embarassing elements. Donatien Giovale, Florine de Willemme, Clément Sabin...they will all be replaced. By Autian, Celtian of Fiennish figures. After all, it's the Union Party.

Yannick Jegou, the president of the Federal-Liberal Party, member party of the ruling coalition with the UP and the Greens, didn't had any ministry. This is now fixed, as the new government is formed :

  • Prime Consul : Claire Journay (UP)
  • Second Consul : Heleentje Langbroek (UP)
  • Minister of Education, Children and Family, Government Spokeperson : Yannick Jegou (F&LP)
  • Minister of Science and Research : Raoul Aldric (Greens)
  • Guard of the Nation, Minister of Army : Gustave Pierre (F&LP)
  • Minister of Economy, Finance and Gestion of the Ecu : Edgar Eloi (UP)
  • Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources : Rozenn Kerpornizh (UP)
  • Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice : Francysce Viscovy (Greens)
  • Minister of Ecology, Environment and Energy Transition : Clémence Marquis (Greens)
  • Minister of Labour and Industry : Sjaak Meeuwessen (UP)
  • Minister of Health and Social Affairs : Daniel Rainier (F&LP)
  • Minister of Housing and Urbanity : Cécyle Ernestin (UP)
  • Minister of Women's Rights, Struggle against Discrimination and Sports : Stéphane Kanner (UP)
  • Minister of Police : Adam De Klerk (F&LP)
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs and of Esquarian Community : Lauryne Sylvien (Greens)
  • Minister of Culture and Communication : Maryvonne Gervais-Sévérin (UP)

General Imre Pásztor executed by Polgárőrség

Polgárőrség captures Imre Pásztor and Aleksi Paju

South Korbathia, Istápuszta - Gunshots can be heard everywhere, explosions. In the far distance there is a large smoke column that is coming form the destroyed republican stronghold of Istápuszta, a settlement just 11 km from the capital of the Korbathian People's Republic, Nagyfolyó. Yet, no significant battles are fought at the moment. Both sides are getting ready for what some call the battle of this war, the battle of Nagyfolyó. Maybe it will be the largest, but in any case it will determine the future of this nation. All pockets of republican resistance in northern and eastern provinces have been crushed and now this is the final goal. Peace, liberty and prosperity. People in all villages liberated by the monarchist forces are rejoicing, but today all of free thinking Korbathia rejoices. The traitor general, Imre Pásztor was captured by Polgárőrség in the town of Istápuszta while he was retreating with his troops to Nagyfolyó. Along with him five high ranking officers were captured and Aleksi Paju, the infamous Nevan terrorist responsible for 2015 Nevan royal wedding bombing and numerous other terrorist attacks associated with NRLF. Two more Nevan nationals were captured with Aleksi Paju and immediately handed over to Nevan troops. Other six prisoners of Korbathian nationality, among them was the traitor general, were executed at the spot by a firing squad in accordance to the new law that was enacted by the KNALWP which says that all high ranking officials of the republic who get captured are to be executed immediately for high treason.

West Cedarbrook 1 Weekend Business Roundup
Administration, Senate in Discussion About Aid to Ocidenia
4:35 PM Wrycova Standard Time
Image
The Senate External Affairs committee has been in discussions with officials of the External Affairs Department since early last week regarding an aid package for the government of Ocidenia, it has been revealed on Friday at the end of the week announcemnts by Senate President Stanislaus Douai.

The terse statement was followed up by West Cedarbrook 1's Business News bureau over the weekend. Several members of the Foreign Aid and Economic Development Subcommittee have spoken with our journalists, and the proposal appears to have backers among both Conservatives and Libertarians. Some of the Senators indicated that External Affairs was encouraged by the recent announcement by Adrio Pagressos, Chairman of Ociednia's National Provisional Assembly of plans to hold new elections in the civil war riven country in the near future. The progress back to democracy after the fall of the Brozhav regime appears to be moving faster than expected, as reported by some of the Senators, and External Affairs has told subcommittee members that President Feld views the rapid move as an extremely favorable sign. External Affairs also told the Senators that the planned elections, announced along the lines of the pre-coup electoral model, showed an indication that the country could be headed back to democracy under a stable approach, reducing opportunities for chicanery and meddling. The moves of the National Provisional Assembly to implement policies supporting job security was another factor prompting External Affairs to propose the aid package. External Affairs has also told the Senate that given the Pagressos' plan to re-open Ocidenian embassies, Secretary Kansky has asked the External Affairs staff to fast track provisions for re-credentialing Ocidenian diplomats assigned the their Wrycova embassy. Reopening the embassy is seen by most subcommittee members as an important precondition to offering any aid package.

This follows on the news of the election of Sera Svensson as Luziyca's President, replacing Breuvi Shjoraski who many have accused of sponsoring the coup that brought Brozhav to power. There has been no comment from Chairman Pagressos yet, but some see Shjoraski's replacement as opening up a window of opportunity for Ocidenia, where lingering resentment of CIA involvement in the coup has caused some bitterness between Ocidenians and Luziyca. External Affairs told the Senators that the change in administration in Luziyca could thaw relations between Ocidenia and that nation, but there will probably be no solid evidence of that before Sevensson assumes office next January. Senate analysts have indicated since the overthrow of Brozhav that it would be more beneficial to provide aid to a recovering Ocidenia if the provisional government had a more open approach to major financial powers in Western Esquarium, rather than attempting to go it alone in offering assistance. Discussions between the Senate and External Affairs have sketched out a possible offer of 25 million zugs, in the form of a 35 year loan to the Ocidenian government at 3 points below the prime rate as currently set by the West Cedarbrook Central Bank. The loan, if offered, would be for infrastructure repair, particularly for port and highway construction. Economists at External Affairs told the subcommittee that this could be viewed as seed money, enabling Ocidenia to upgrade facilities deemed vital to increase production. The increase in production and subsequent tax revenues for Ocidenia, and intital replayments on the loan would be viewed by many in the West Cedarbrook financial community as improving Ocidenia's and Ocidenian businesses' abilities to repay commercial loans, following an improved risk rating. External Affairs also told the Senators that they should give the proposal prompt consideration, since it is possible that a larger aid package could be proposed in the future for Lecistan, if upcoming negotiations between the Republic of Lecistan and the Grand Duchy planned in Katranjiev reach a conclusion that includes mutual withdrawl of foreign forces and restoration of law and order. A spokesman for External Affairs told West Cedarbrook 1 Business that the changes in both Ocidenia and Lecistan are likely to call for an increase in the foreign aid budget, but that in light of recent government cutbacks, the deparment wants to take a longer term, two year approach to foreign aid budgeting.

Samòstójnocczi
#1 News for Lec Expats

With negotiations possible, can the crisis in Lecistan end?

A few weeks back, both sides of the current civil war in Lecistan agreed to sit down and discuss a possible end to the violence. Katranjiev has officially offered an olive branch to both the Nevan-backed Grand Duchy and Solidarity Alliance-led Republic. With negotiations possibly to be held within in the next few months, we here at Samòstójnocczi have decided to take this lull in the civil war to report on the demographic and political changes to Lecistan since mid-October.

According to some sources, many NGOs have placed the death toll due to the civil war at between 30-50,000. The number spiked earlier this month after Grand Duchy forces began to deliberately attack and destroy civilian facilities and infrastructure that was “unnecessary for the war effort”. A further 43,000 have migrated out of the nation as refugees, the majority to neighbouring countries such as Filimons and Osonia. No one has currently information regarding financial and property damage of the civil war, but many have placed it at or above 200,000,000 NSD, with most of the damage in the north.

Hopefully, the negotiations can help stop the violence in Lecistan and bring some solution to the increasingly dangerous situation.

Lecistani rebels reveal plan to "de-Nevanize" Lecistani town names
Image
"Nevanscangoscrewthemselveswithacactussecondrepublicisbaeforeverów"
is set to become the new name of this quiet Lecistani town
Lecistan - Lecistani rebel leader Łukôsz Grzéskowicz announced that all towns currently held under rebel control as well as towns currently controlled by the pro-Nevan government will be renamed once rebel forces take control of the entire country.

According to Grzéskowicz, the self-proclaimed Second Republic of Lecistan will establish a De-Nevanization Committee, headed by himself, that will rename up to 120 municipal areas throughout the country. All names will have an anti-Nevan message inscribed within them.

Among the names the De-Nevanization Committee has proposed include:

  • Nevanscangoscrewthemselveswithacactussecondrepublicisbaeforeverów
  • Juhanisonofabitchów
  • Fucktheselloutsów
  • Nevanwomenarentevenhotów
  • Perkeleów
  • Breadandcornflowersów
  • Nevansgetoutoflecistanrightnów

The move is aimed at "stirring up patriotic sentiment against the Nevan enemy," Grzéskowicz said.

"Not only will it motivate Lecistanis to fight, but it will also confuse the Nevan forces when they approach a village whose name they can't even pronounce. And if they do pronounce the name and understand what it means, the joke's on them," the self-proclaimed president added. "Already, we're hearing reports of Nevan soldiers committing suicide by the thousands trying to make sense out of the new names."

Most civilians living in rebel-occupied areas say they approve of the name changes.

"Seriously, a name like Gratzów is boring," said Marceli Tadeusz, a 65 year-old resident of Gratzów, now renamed Nevansgetoutoflecistanrightnów by rebel authorities. "I like the new name because it actually means something. If you look closely, you can see the words 'Nevans get out of Lecistan.' Ain't that cool? Plus, it's a really long name too. It's about time we Lecistanis express our cultural independence by reintroducing long names. It's not fair that only Vyvland has them."

Others are more cautious. Kazik Dobrosław, a four year-old from Kungpów, now renamed Perkeleów, fears the name changes may lead to a Vyvlander military intervention.

"Me afraid Vyvlanders will be really mad our names longer than theirs," he told the Pickle. "They might send goats to kill mommy and daddy. Goats scary."

Following the rebels' announcement, King Juhani III appeared on national television and said Nevan troops stationed in Lecistan will "intensify its campaign of obliterating the republican terrorists" in response to the name changes.

A subhuman monster gets his just deserts
Image
Mendebaldeko Atea Mall, 2006

ASKATASUNA, IRINUSHKA - Today, the presiding judge, Ivan Zuzentasun has handed down a death sentence to Mahmud Jakue Ehiztari in regards to the terrorist attack of the Mendebaldeko Atea Mall on May 14th, saying to the accused that "your act of terrorism is cowardly, it is shameful, and you have robbed thousands of people of their God-given lives."

The jury deliberated for seven minutes, before presenting the verdict: juror Yusif Theodorov, descended from Kraqi refugees in the First Kraqi Civil War was chosen as foreman, and gave the guilty verdict.

Judge Zuzentasun then informed Ehiztari, "For the act of terrorism against the Mendebaldeko Atea Mall on the fourteenth of May, for being a member of a known terrorist organization [the Caliphate], and for three thousand charges of first-degree murder or the attempt in doing so, you will be sentenced to death." He then added that "Your act of terrorism is cowardly, it is shameful, and you have robbed thousands of people of their God-given lives. You are nothing more than a subhuman monster, Ehiztari, and I hope you will go to Hell!"

The audience watching the trial applauded and gave a standing ovation to Zuzentasun's comment. After the trial concluded, Ehiztari was transported to the Askatasuna Airport for a flight to Oksana. It is likely that the verdict will be appealed, although it will be almost definitely rejected on national security grounds.

When news of the verdict of Mahmud Ehiztari reached the people, there was joy among the streets, but also mourning.

"I am thankful that Ehiztari will be paying the price for what he did to my lovely daughter, and my little grandson," 61 year old Nikolai Gerarri explained. "My daughter, Elena, and my grandson Grigor, they were killed savagely. I feel a little at ease now, but I do not think that even that is far enough.

Mother of the terrorist Tejedor Ehiztari also supported the verdict, saying that "After five years of having to witness such betrayal, having to see my son be further and further away, I am glad that the verdict was made, in the best interests of the victims. I think at this point, not even a psychiatrist can save him."

Governor Simon Nathenen said that "it is only beginning. We may have put the perp behind bars, and send him on his path to Hell, but the damage is too much. Not even the sentencing will be enough to undo the damage that the relatives and friends of the victims and survivors of this horrific terrorist attack."

DEVELOPED NEWS Block of cheese sliced and eaten as Adulv Niyborg moves a step up the Nevan succession ladder
Image
The 722,580,538,398th successor to the Nevan throne, a block of cheese,
is no longer existent, prompting Adulv Niyborg to move a step up
Nevanlinna, Nevanmaa/Vlud, Vyvland - Vyvlander businessman Adulv Niyborg is rejoicing a second time, now that he has not only made it to the list of successors to the Nevan throne, but moved a step closer to succeeding King Juhani III and billions of other people.

Number 722,580,538,398, a block of cheese, is confirmed to be "no longer capable of succeeding the monarch" after it was reportedly sliced into pieces and eaten by an eight year-old kid. This brings, Mr. Niyborg, who was in 722,580,538,399th place, to move a place up and take the place of the deceased cheese.

Niyborg denied any involvement in the demise of the block of cheese.

"Honestly, I didn't know this was going to happen. To those who knew the block of cheese, I'm really, really sorry for your loss," he said.

But Niyborg added that this is an "ever greater achievement" for Nevanmaa and himself.

"It's one thing to be black and be on the successors' list, but it's something totally different when you're black and you move up the list. I never knew that that can happen, especially from a country that's run by whites," Niyborg said. "Basically, this is a milestone in my life and human history, and I pledge to do my best as Nevanmaa's monarch should I ever get the throne."

Meanwhile, there are unconfirmed reports that the kid who ate the block of cheese is now being detained by Nevan authorities for "giving a nigger a greater chance to rule the Realm of Kaarenmaa-Hennala."

The Pickle will continue to cover the story as it developed.

Labour in tatters as bookies speculate on leadership candidates

Image
It is not known if Patrik Munther will run for a second term as Labour leader

At least two MPs will challenge Patrik Menther's leadership of the Labour Party, a source has told CRTnews. The election for the new leader is to be held on 12 March 2016. Party members wanting to run for leadership will go through a nomination process, starting in mid December. They will have to collect signatures of at least 10% of MPs to be on the ballot. The candidates will then go through a campaign where they will try to convince party members they are the right choice for Labour.

A coup has been widely spoken of every since Labour lost the general election in May 2013. But due to the length of term of the party leader, Mr Menther could (and did) stay leader in spite of the loss. He was elected leader in September 2012 after the then Labour Prime Minister Jakob Vinkosson announced he would not be seeking a third term as Prime Minister nor as Labour leader.

Labour faced an unsurprising internal election, with Mr Menther, then a cabinet secretary, elected with 53% of the vote, his two opponents being backbench MPs. He became leader of the Labour Party, but not Prime Minister as Mr Vinkosson said he would complete his term as premier. Labour led a campaign showing off their achievements in the past 8 years, but Mr Menther's personal rating was low. Another big issue which defined the 2013 election was the ailing economic situation, with GDP growth failing to pick up after the financial crisis.

The general election resulted in the first hung parliament in decades. Democrats and Liberals formed a majority and Larisa Reutt became Prime Minister. Labour membership mostly blamed Patrik Menther for not signing a deal with the Liberals and a vote of no confidence was launched. However, it even failed to be voted upon, as not enough Labour MPs (33%) signed the VONC motion so it could be voted on.

Labour has since recovered slightly in the polls and has made gains in some by-elections. But it's been far from good, according to some. One Labour MP said: ''With our healthcare in chaos, highest use of food banks ever and record numbers of people on the minimum wage, winning local, Esquarian and (subsequently) the general election should be easy. It isn't and Labour should get someone new to lead it, unattached to the previous government.''

Several sources have indicated that most of the party membership feels this way too. There are already some calls for Mr Menther not to even run for a second term. Some are worried that electing Mr Menther as leader again would hurt Labour's chances in 2017. ''Patrik is a good man, but he's stuck inside the Springfield bubble. Party communication is bad and we are not making any progress to regain the electoral field and win in 2017. The party has turned to the right too much and it is accepting Reutt's narrative of austerity'', said one party source from Nordland.

''Everything is in chaos'', according to another source. But the chaos doesn't seem to show signs of stopping. ''Labour will be facing a life-death situation in March. Elections have become personalized and so we need a charismatic leader. Menther is one of the people the electorate blames for causing the 2008 crisis. He's not a leader. He's a liability.''

No MPs have yet come forward publicly and announced that they're running for leader. But it is widely speculated that Erik Kvist, one of Labour's Stotvag MPs will be running. Some also say Madeleine Collard and Viktor Lomesend will try to run too. It is not yet known if Patrik Menther will run for a second term and our sources are conflicted on this. But all expect a political winter to remember.

Ardea United Wins NCL Cup Again

Ardea United Defeats Leitrim FC 5:3 - Is Ardea United Making a Comeback?

Tuesday 24/11/2015 | Ardea, Greater Ardokian Republic

Image
Liam Nevin and Neil O'Callaghan Celebrating Ardea United's Victory in the Finals

Last night Ardea United performed a stunning victory over the then national champions and favourite, Leitrim FC in the finals of the National Championship League Cup. While this season's favourite and the champions for the previous four years, Leitrim FC performed rather poorly in the first half, only to almost equalise the score at 3:3 fifteen minutes before the game finished. Liam Nevin of Ardea United scored a goal in the last ten minutes of the match followed by a penalty kick by Neil O'Callaghan four minutes before the match ended, turning what many expected to be a draw into a 5:3 victory for Ardea United.

Ardea United is one of the oldest active football clubs in Ardoki. It holds the record for the most NCL Cup wins (21), though hasn't won since 2009. The massive influx of money into football in the late 1990s and early 2000s led to increased competitiveness, which hurt Ardea United as the other clubs could compete for the best players on a more even field. Despite this the club remains the most popular and wealthiest football club in the country, and this victory could be a sign that they are returning to their place of prominence in the NCL.

Leitrim FC was the clear favourite, having won the NCL Cup in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. It has quickly become one of the best teams in Ardoki, with even Minister-President Keelin O'Hara being one of its supporters. It was clear they wouldn't win the match in the first half, however hopes of a possible draw and chance in a penalty shoot-out arose during the second half as Leitrim FC upped their game. But two unlucky goals from Ardea United dashed those dreams, leaving many fans upset after what they thought would be a fifth consecutive championship.

Overall Ardea United had a brilliant season, though were overshadowed by Leitrim FC throughout. Some pundits claim this victory is a sign of Ardea United returning as the premier football club in the nation. However perhaps this was just a bad game for Leitrim FC? They had performed so well throughout the season, while Ardea United got off to a rough start. We won't be able to say either way until at least next season, hopefully it will be as good as 2015.

Six-year long civil war is finally over; New Constitution to be written
Image
Fireworks display in Yavin, celebrating the end of the war

Pashkuar, Korivania. After six years of war, the Fifth Korivanian Civil War has finally come to a close. The war was preluded by a series of clashes between Muslim rebels in southwestern Korivania and the mainly Christian government. It then escalated when military Captain Ahmed Hoxha, led some Muslim troops to attack the capitol city of Pashkuar. In the process, the democratically elected President, Kalvin Kastrioti, was shot and killed by one of Hoxha's soldiers. Hoxha's troop occupied around 67% of the city for 2 days, before he was forced out by loyalist forces. Most of the fighting in the conflict was fought in the south-central Galatia, and Lydia provinces, as well as intense battles in the west-central Corriban province, although there were a few battles fought in the far-eastern province of Dibra. During the war, there was at least one, month-long ceasefire between the two sides. Because of this, as well as the fact that both sides had similar manpower and technological strength, there was a long stalemate with only a few battles, that lasted for 2 years, with few advancements by either side. The stalemate was broken on September 12, 2014, when Muslim leader Mehmet Calaj, lead his giant mass troops to break through the government defenses at the Battle of Phillipi, which they were successful in doing. The forces continued on to take Prevezë, and much of the northern regions of the Lydia province, until the made the fatal mistake of crossing into the Eriad province, into the town of Krujë in particular. The Muslim rebel forces were advancing so quickly that they outran their supply lines, so the Government forces, under the guidance of General Qemal Vukitaj cut them off quite easily, and lured them into a large, marshy valley next to the city of Krujë. The Rebel forces were surrounded in the valley and were annihilated, and as a result, the Muslim side lost the bulk of their army. Soon, Muslim forces all over southern and western Korivania were on the retreat. The fate of the rebel forces in south-central Korivania was sealed when they were defeated by Government General Alen Zimaj, at the Battle of Harlem, in the Arvant province. Within a year, the only remaining areas under Muslim control was the western half of the Lebanon province, with a few strongholds in the Galatia province, as well as the city of Ohrë in the Corriban province. On October 5, 2015, Muslim leaders once again made the mistake of launching an all-out charge on the government forces, at the Battle of Urka, near the city of Alexandria. From that point, it was quite obvious that the rebel side would lose the war. By November 19, the only city that remained under Muslim control was the low-lying city of Janikë, in the far south of the Lebanon province. After a three day siege of the city, the few that remained of the rebel forces surrendered, and as a result, the war is now over, ending with a Christian government victory. Now, the task remaining is to rebuild Korivania back to greatness, which the government has gotten straight to doing. Another thing that will be done is to write a new constitution, that will bring about a more stable government to lead the nation. The Constitutional Convention will meet tomorrow at 8:00 in the morning. Since Kalvin Kastrioti, and much of his cabinet were killed, there is a Presidential election scheduled for January 12, 2016. Until the President is elected, General Qemal Vukitaj will serve as interim president.

Government to reserve additional P500 billion to accommodate Chorean refugees
November 24, NMR 2377

presidential election
NAMO, CAPITAL DISTRICT - The Central Council passed a package put forward by President-General Fu that will lend an additional P500 billion ($71.4 billion) to accommodate Chorean refugees who are still residing in Namor as a result of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit their home country in July.
Image

The money will go to improving the condition of refugee camps set up throughout the ethnic Chorean autonomous republic of Xibensho in northeastern Namor. Asking the CenCo to approve of the package, President-General Fu said it is necessary to make refugees' lives "as comfortable as possible" as winter quickly approaches the region.

"Chorea is still recovering. We cannot expect all of its refugees currently residing in Namor to return for the time being. A long winter is coming ahead for the refugees, and we Namorese should continue to play our role as a compassionate friend and accommodate the thousands of men, women and children living within our borders. I thereby ask that everyone in the Central Council set aside their differences and approve of the aid we're sending to Xibensho and other areas," Fu said.

Fu also called on more local businesses in the border region to "help out" by offering temporary work for refugees.

"These are people who are out of their homes. They want to work, but they can't. If you happen to be in a place where there are refugees and you own a business, please lend a helping hand and give them a job. Everybody wins - the refugees who need to make ends meet and an economy that we're trying to keep robust. Fortunately, Xibensho is a region with many Choreans, and its people are very accommodating. I'd like to tell them to keep it up."

A super-majority in the Central Council voted in favor of the package, with the exception of several hardcore libertarian New Democrats and People's Firsts. Deputy Jing Chungang (PFC-LD1) called the package "a waste of money."

"Instead of continuously pouring money into the refugees, what we should be doing is working harder with the Chorean government to rebuild Chorea so that the refugees return to their country, the sooner the better," said Jing.

Chorea and northeastern Namor were hit by a tsunami in July. The death count has lately reached over 6,500 people, and is expected to increase as more bodies are found in the future. The tsunami has displaced over a million people in Chorea and forced over 20,000 Choreans to seek refuge in Namor - a large majority of these refugees are in Xibensho.

The Ministry of Public Security estimates that of all the Chorean refugees living in Namor, less than half of them live in government-established refugee camps. The percentage of refugees living in Namorese camps are relatively low as many refugees have been accepted to live with locals in their homes, an act hailed by Xibensho's head of state Kai Ti-gu as "extremely selfless."

Koy and Kraqi Governments Announce a Ceasefire with the Revolutionary People's Army and its Allies; Groups Merge With National Resistance Forces to Form the Democratic Revolutionary Forces of Kraq

by Abu Omar - November 25, 2015

The Minister of Information announcing a ceasefire with communist militia

RAGOBAD, KRAQ - After months of secret high level talks held in the Koy capital of Ansyu, the Kraqi Foreign Minister, flanked by the Kraqi government delegation and the rebel Revolutionary People's Army and its allies delegation, formally announced the end of hostilities between the Kraqi government and the communist militant organistations; the first of its kind since the war began four years ago.

Speaking to a swarm of reporters, the Kraqi Foreign Minister had this to say. "Since August, delegations from the government and the Revolutionary People's Army have been meeting in Ansyu, Koyro -discussing ways to end the conflict between us. It was hard work, but with extensive support from the Triumvirate Alliance, Koyro especially, the communist rebels and the government have been successful in coming together and ending the fighting between us - the first ceasefire of its kind. I implore the National Kraqi Opposition Coalition and other rebel factions to follow the Revolutionary People's Army and come to the table so we can end this conflict and finally destroy the Caliphate - the biggest threat to Nautasian security and stability."

Shortly after the announcement, the leader of the Revolutionary People's Army, Mohammed Darzi, confirmed it authenticity. "After years of resistance against the capitalist dogs of Luziyca and other foreign occupiers, it was the decision of the Politburo of the People's Party of Kraq than we must negotiate as to further the People's cause. This ceasefire will allow for the legalisation of the People's Party of Kraq and are allies and grant us greater influence within the government. I thank the heroes and martyrs of are glorious revolution who have fought valiantly to get us this ceasefire. Long Live the Revolution!"

Opposition factions have condemned the ceasefire as a "gross betrayal of the end goals of the original revolution" and have vowed "swift and just revenge for the Revolutionary People's Army's defection to the government." Shihab Amjad, the leader of the Free Kraqi Army briskly has lambasted the 'cowardly desertion of the opposition by the communist militia groups and its unprecedented attack against the hopes of the Kraqi people for a inclusive and democratic Kraq. President of the National Kraqi Opposition Coalition, Khaled al-Musallat, has also come out to denounce the 'desertion' as the “one greatest betrayal of freedom and democracy in Kraqi history.” A statement echoed by other heads of other rebel factions.

Hours of the announcement of the ceasefire, another proclamation was declared, this time by the heads of the Koy-alligned National Resistance Forces, Revolutionary People's Army, Free Mburi People's Army and the Kraqi Alliance for Equalitarianism the formation of a new pro-Government alliance - the Democratic Revolutionary Forces of Kraq. The press conference announcing the establishment of the Democratic Revolutionary Forces of Kraq [DRFK] was attended by a representative from all the mentioned forces and Koyro.

"This new force will seek to destroy the so-called "Caliphate" militant organisation and other rogue forces attacking the peoples of Kraq, further relation between the Kraqi people and the people's of the Triumvirate Alliance, and end the threat poised by radical Islam." said a spokesman for the DRFK by telephone. "This small step will enable the democratic unity of all Kraqi peoples on the basis of secularism and the inclusivism.”

Princess Deidre baptized, first official photos released
Image
First photo of Crown Princess Deidre

KRASIMIR, KRASIMIR - Today, Her Royal Highness, Crown Princess Deidre was baptized by Archbishop Bogdan Bozhidarov at St. Klement's Cathedral at 11 am this morning, and was attended by Queen Elis, the King-father, and other members of the royal family. As well, the first official photographs of the heir to the Katranjian throne, Princess Deidre of Desislav were released to the public. These photos, including the one seen above were taken this past week by Juliana Mikhailov, an ethnic Luziycan photographer who is commissioned to take official royal photos.

The young Princess' christening was the first official public event that she appeared in, at 11 weeks and 5 days of age: her birth was announced, but for the sake of privacy, she and her husband entered the Royal University Hospital and left (with the young Princess) via a separate entrance, instead of the main entrance where the press was gathered. After officially being confirmed as Princess Deidre, and baptized in the Lutheran Catholic faith, Queen Elis of Katranjiev was interviewed about why they decided to baptize her daughter as Lutheran Catholic.

"We decided to christen our daughter in the Lutheran Catholic faith because it is tradition: the royal members here have traditionally done it here," Elis explained to KTV. "However, we are probably going to raise her in a secular way, neutral from both of our faiths, since... well..." and then hastily finished with "...it's 2015, that's all," and shrugged.

When asked why Crown Princess Deidre did not make any public appearances by KTV, Elis said that "We are very concerned about paparazzi. While this is the 21st century, I still feel that she deserves some privacy. This was why I entered and exited through a separate door: so the paparazzi will not see her. But in the next few weeks, she will embark on her first visit to a foreign country: that of her father's. We plan on beginning the tour by visiting the southern duchies from Dec. 10th, and we plan to arrive in Scotia on the 24th, and spend the Christmas with my in-laws, before touring Scotia until mid-January." Elis joked to the reporter that "She will have her first major public engagement in the coming tour, and I hope that Deidre can handle it!"

Prime Minister Magarit Ogynan commented that "she is a very adorable young girl. I hope to meet her one day."

Ashuragar town council to ban nomadic travel?
In a surprise meeting today, the town council of Ashuragar debated on whether or not to continue allowing migration to the capital during the upcoming months by nomadic peoples. “The fact is”, said city councillor Inanna Lugulbanda, “our population basically doubles when the nomads come north to allow their livestock to graze, and it’s putting a pressure on our city that we frankly can’t deal with at the moment”.

Every year in January and February, roughly 8-10,000 nomads migrate north to Ashuragar and the surrounding area in order to take advantage of prime grazing and harvesting times. Ashuragar, with a population nearing 10,000, is the largest community on the island and the seat of the territorial government. In recent years, the topic of nomadic travel has become heavily debated, with many for and against programs designed to settle the 16,000 nomads in Pisdara. Last year, Governor Mathias Blank stated a wish to install a Relocation and Settlement Program in order to settle the nomads, although the Territorial Council has yet to officially debate the idea.

For the nomads themselves, many fear that their livelihood may be taken away from them. “What harm am I doing?” Said Abi Eshu, a semi-nomad currently living outside Kibkar. “Pisdaris have been nomadic or semi-nomadic for centuries, and I don’t see the problem in simply moving from one place to another.” Eshu also stated he felt threatened by growing anti-nomadic sentiment in Pisdara, alluding to the Sakar town council’s five months ago decision to built a wall separating the community before it was deemed inappropriate by the Territorial Council.

Apil Ashnan breaks froms National Party to form own grouping
Image
Counciller Apil Ashnan is forming a new party after spliting from the Nationals

Territorial Councillor Apil Ashnan stated today that he is officially resigning his membership to the ruling National Party, instead forming his own grouping. Ashnan, who joined the National Party in 2006 and has been a member of the Territorial Council since 1995, stated icy relations with party leader and Governor Mathias Blank as well as issues stemming from the National Party’s stance on Pisdari independence. Ashnan’s new party, Movement for a Islamic Pisdara, is said to be a pro-independence right-wing grouping that supports education reform, social conservatism, and negotiations on a referendum on Pisdari independance.

Ashnan entered the Territorial Council in 1995 as a member of the center-right Independence for Pisdara, which he was leader of from 1994-2003, until he joined the centrist Unity in 2003. After Unity’s collapse in 2006, Ashnan, a stanch supporter of the pro-independence camp, surprised many by joining the pro-Vjaarlandic National Party, which he was a member of prior to his announcement.

Korivania officially joins the SOE
Image
The Korivanian Parliament Chamber

Pashkuar, Korivania. The deal that would grant Korivania Southeast Oriental Entente (SOE) membership has passed in a landslide victory. Late this afternoon, debate began on whether pass a proposal that would grant Korivania membership in the SOE, but do to there being very few against joining the SOE, the debate was short and the bill passed, 551 Yay to 7 Nay. Straight afterward, the bill was signed by President Vukitaj, afterward claiming: "Tonight, we join our fellow South Conitian nations as together we march to greater horizons". As a result of joining SOE, Korivania now has better relations with other South Conitian countries, and due to the economic provisions of being an SOE member-state, Korivanian goods will have easier access to foreign markets, and will strengthen the Korivanian economy. This move by the Korivanian government comes as Korivania's northern neighbor Odissia also joins the SOE. An ironic factor is that Korivania is joining an alliance that is lead by its once arch-enemy, Michillies. In an interview with the Odissian news network "RNO World News", Michillian President Joãi-Frãcesc Martẽis responded to interviewers who asked about Odissia's and Korivania's new membership to SOE, saying: "The maturity and level-headed character shown by South Conitian leaders over the course of this process has been incredible and I believe with all my heart that Korivania and Odissia will be fantastic partners in helping to further the defence of democracy and free self-determination across our continent." King Giergi VIII was seen today placing the SOE flag on the same flag-pole as the Korivanian flag, so now the SOE flag is waving under the Korivanian flag, near the Kalikari Palace. The majority of Parliament voted "Aye" on the proposal to join the SOE, except for Edi Badar, and a few other members of the Castle Party, an isolationist political party in Parliament, who said that "This (Korivania joining the SOE) will not help the citizens of Korivania, but will instead just benefit big business." He then stormed off singing "I hate SOE, SOE hates me, Korivania need more commoners like me!" at the top of his lungs. While this interview was taking place, he had a six-pack of beer with two bottles missing and one bottle half full, so that may explain his behavior towards our reporter. But now, Korivania is part of a multi-national organization, whether it will be good or bad, time will tell.

First round of recall election sees "big four" advance
Leftists do better than rightists, but the race could still change significantly

Image
Patrīcija Jankauskaitė, the incumbent president, barely made it to the second round.

KALNASPILS, AUCURIA | December 1, 2015- The Aucurian left appears to be leading after Karolis Staugaitis and Pantaleimonas Uspelevičius, the two main leftist candidates in the recall election, took the first and second place positions in the first round of Aucuria's recall election, relegating main rightist candidates Vaišvilkas Kavaliauskas and Patrīcija Jankauskaitė to third and fourth place, respectively. Meanwhile, while Kazimieras Ilgauskas and Sipytiņevas Riudalis did not make it to the second round, they surprised many with higher-than-expected turnout; conversely, Lilija Macijauskaitė didn't fail but didn't excel, and Mykolas Zvinakis struggled to do as well as he had hoped.

The present presidential election was called after, for the first time in Aucurian history, a petition for a recall election reached quorum. Generally, elections are held every five years in conjunction with elections for the Saeimas, with the first round conducted on February 1, the second round on April 1, and the inauguration of the elected candidate on May 1. The last regularly scheduled election was conducted in 2012; the next regularly scheduled election will be held in 2017 as planned. For this recall election, the first round was held earlier today, the second round will be held January 1, 2016, and the winning candidate will be inaugurated on February 1. Each candidate had to gain 12.5% of the vote to advance to the second round of the election, which will be held on January 1, 2016. Only four of the eight candidates participating won enough in the first round of voting, which was held earlier today, to advance to the second.

There were eight candidates in the first round. Patrīcija Jankauskaitė, the incumbent president, has the backing of the center-rightist National Alliance and the Atlian unionist Party for Atlia's Future; Karolis Staugaitis, the incumbent opposition leader, is the nominee of the leftist Social Democrats; Vaišvilkas Kavaliauskas leads the rightist Christian Democrats; Pantaleimonas Uspelevičius leads the center-left Labor Party and has the backing of the Atlian regionalist and separatist Atlian Bloc; Lilija Macijauskaitė leads an unusual coalition of the libertarian Law and Justice Party, the esquaroskeptic True Aucurians, and the restorationist Royalist Front; Kazimieras Ilgauskas is the nominee of a collection of smaller leftist parties- the Liberal Movement, New Republic, Aucurian Greens, and Pirate Party; Sipytiņevas Riudalis leads the Aucurian Jahistic Party and has the support of the fascistic Aucurian National Party; Mykolas Zvinakis leads the communist Working People's Party and has the support of the Liberationist Party.

The results of the first round are as follows:

Karolis Staugaitis (SD): 1,112,436 (20.6%)
Pantaleimonas Uspelevičius (DP-AB): 945,030 (17.5%)
Vaišvilkas Kavaliauskas (KD): 847,827 (15.7%)
Patrīcija Jankauskaitė (NA-PAA): 680,422 (12.6%)
Kazimieras Ilgauskas (LS-NR-AZ-PP): 669,621 (12.4%)
Sipytiņevas Riudalis (ADP-ANP): 545,417 (10.1%)
Lilija Macijauskaitė (TiT-TA-RP): 388,812 (7.2%)
Mykolas Zvinakis (DLP-IP): 194,406 (3.6%)
Write-In Candidates: 10,804 (.2%)

Karolis Staugaitis won the first round, but still faces a stiff challenge from Pantaleimonas Uspelevičius.

Karolis Staugaitis and Pantaleimonas Uspelevičius, both leftist candidates, took first and second place in the initial round. After more than a decade of rightist control of the executive branch in Aucuria, it appears that the left has finally mustered the support to challenge their control. This is likely in part due to the effects of a region-wide economic downturn in Aucuria. Meanwhile, Vaišvilkas Kavaliauskas beat Patrīcija Jankauskaitė to the third place spot. Jankauskaitė, in a disappointing showing, barely passed the 12.5% threshold to continue on to the second round. Kavaliauskas' ideological devotion is certainly more appealing to the right, but his presence will not aid the right's chances in this election.

Lilija Macijauskaitė managed to keep her diverse coalition- her typical libertarian backers, nationalists brought in by electoral alliance, and the occasional royalist- intact, taking about as much of the vote as most analysts expected her to get. While this is not an exceptional showing, and probably not the one Macijauskaitė wanted, it's still good news for her supporters, as it proves that they have at least maintained the progress made in past elections. More shocking is the results obtained by Kazimieras Ilgauskas, who was expected to poll similarly to Macijauskaitė but instead took almost double the number of votes, only narrowly missing the threshold to advance to the second stage. This is a definite victory for his coalition- both Staugaitis and Uspelevičius will likely need the votes that went to Ilgauskas if they seek to win the second round. While Staugaitis aligns more closely with them on some issues, he might also be seen as closer to the establishment than Uspelevičius.

The success of Ilgauskas was perhaps mirrored by the inability of Mykolas Zvinakis to do as well as he might have hoped. While the stigmas once associated with the Working People's Party are fading, Zvinakis still failed to get even 5% of the vote. In a sharp and surprising contrast, however, Sipytiņevas Riudalis took far more of the vote than was expected- more than ten percent. Polls conducted among individuals who voted for Riudalis showed that almost all of those who voted for him- 93.2 percent- identified as supporters of Jahisticism. This is a sharp turnaround from 2012, when the Aucurian Jahistic Party took only 2.3% of the vote. If this translates into success in the 2017 Saeimas elections for the Jahistics, there could be an entirely new force in Aucurian politics.

PM: We will fulfill our moral duty toward refugees

Image
Prime Minister Reutt participated in an Esquarian Parliament debate

Prime Minister Larisa Reutt has expressed concern over the Lecistani civil conflict today and answered questions regarding civil casualties. She attended an Esquarian Parliament session and spoke during a debate on the Lecistani conflict. ''We need a strong and robust response from the Esquarian Community as well as the whole international community. We should not just stand here, debate on it and do nothing. Talking about it is one, making an action is another. I call upon all Esquarian Community leaders to work together to avert an international humanitarian disaster.''

The Lecistani war is spreading to all corners of the country as sources inform us on many refugees fleeing to neighbouring countries in search for shelter. The Prime Minister talked about refugees in a recent interview. ''Our moral duty is to help those poor people and we will fulfill it. Crolacia has always welcomed immigrants and refugees and we are proud of that tradition. I can announce that we plan on taking in 5,000 Lecistani refugees by Spring 2016. Every nation should offer shelter to these people, even if it's for a few individuals. Any help is welcome. I will work hard on this issue and press the international community to end this conflict and enter a peace process which will work for all sides. Crolacia will also provide financial support for humanitarian organisations operating in Lecistan.''

Crolacia is (so far) the first of the Nordanian countries to take in refugees from Lecistan. The government expects others to follow as the Esquarian Parliament concluded its debate today with a resolution about the need to help civilians involved in the conflict. Security concerns were raised, as the esquasceptic Independence Party questioned the government's motives, saying ''we will take people in our country and we don't know who they are, what they're like and whether they pose a threat to our national security''.

Valeriy Anisim charged with tax evasion
Image
Valeriy Anisim at an office, September

FRONTIERSBURG, UPPER YORK - In a joint operation by the Luziycan Marines and the Upper York State Police, codenamed "Operation Liberate Gusev," at 1 this afternoon, they stormed the Otekian Government-in-Exile headquarters, after it was revealed that since 1997, the OGIE had committed significant tax evasion against the City of Frontiersburg, the State of Upper York, and the federal government. Senior officials of the OGIE, including Valeriy Anisim were charged for committing tax evasion.

Following the arrest of Valeriy Anisim on the charges of tax evasion at quarter-past-one in the afternoon, the assets of the OGIE headquarters in Frontiersburg were seized, and the books are being investigated regarding funding. It is estimated that the tax fraud had resulted in about ₤387,000,000 ($774,000,000) in lost revenues to all three levels of government since 1997, or ₤21,500,000 ($43,000,000) per year since then.

Police Chief Paul Pantejmonov stated at a press conference following the completition of Operation Liberate Gusev that "for generations, the OGIE has been seen as a hopeful organization that sought to bring liberty to Oteki. But quite frankly, the OGIE has outlived their purpose. If Otekians want to be independent, violence is not the right way to go. And certainly not tax evasion!"

That comment drew laughter, and Pantejmonov admitted that "we turned a blind eye because we thought that they could succeed. But when we continue to give them money and support, and they don't pay all of their taxes, and it keeps going on for decades, something needs to be done. Over the next while, we will be taking a look at their expenses, their budget, and how much they have taken advantage of our generosity and hospitality that we have so graciously extended to them since 1970."

More as the story develops.

Luziycan authorities announced that they arrested OGIE terrorist leader Valeriy
Anisim for tax evasion
KUSEF, TXOTAI | November 29, NMR 2377 It's a victory for Namorese sovereignty, albeit one that was quite unexpected: Luziycan authorities said they stormed the headquarters of the so-called "Otekian government-in-exile (OGIE)" and arrested several senior "officials" of the "government-in-exile," among them its leader, Valeriy Anisim.

According to the Constitution, Luziycan Marines and local state police launched an operation, code-named "Liberate Kusef," at 1 p.m. local time (2 p.m. Namo Time), besieging OGIE's command center. The arrests followed revelations that the "government-in-exile" had been committing "significant tax evasion" against local, state and federal authorities.

Luziyca said OGIE's tax fraud resulted in about P5,418,000,000 in lost revenue for the government, equating to P301,000,000 in lost revenue per year.

In announcing Anisim's arrest, Frontiersburg police chief Paul Pantejmonov said the "government-in-exile" had "outlived their purpose."

"We turned a blind eye because we thought they could succeed [in splitting Namor]," he told the press. "But when we continue to give them money and support, and they don't pay all of their taxes, and it keeps going on for decades, something needs to be done. Over the next while, we will be taking a look at their expenses, their budget, and how much they have taken advantage of our generosity and hospitality that we have so graciously extended to them since [NMR 2310]."

Spokespeople for the "government-in-exile" were unavailable for comment.

Namor reacts

Namor welcomes Luziyca's latest actions against Txotai separatists forces based in the country, according to Foreign Minister Shen Wuhong.

"It is clear to both countries that the Txotai separatist forces not only pose a threat to the security and well-being of the Namorese people, but to stable Namo-Luziycan relations and regional stability," Shen said. "Since the end of the rebellion, terrorists linked to the separatist forces have waged a relentless genocidal campaign against Namor, all with Luziyca's help. The recent developments signal the end of a dark chapter in history, and the beginning of a new and potentially bright one."

Shen added that if the Luziycan government is willing, Namor can try Anisim and other OGIE heads for violating Namorese law.

"Obviously, these people are responsible for countless deaths on Namorese soil, and we'd appreciate it if Luziyca turns them over to us so that they can be delivered to justice by the very country they've been targeting," he said.

Txotai's Head of State Wei Siang praised the operation. "This is a victory for Namorese sovereignty, and it's also the beginning of the end of the separatist forces," he said.

Trying to save détente?

Some analysts point out that Luziyca's operation against OGIE coincides with the Namorese presidential campaign, suggesting that Luziyca took action against OGIE as a means of increasing support for détente between Namo and Bethlehem, both domestic and abroad.

With the possibility of the Luziyca-skeptic Popular Front winning next year's election, the Luziycan government is rounding up Namor's enemies, hoping that doing so would turn voters away from parties that vow to roll back détente, said Kiang Pi of Namo University.

"The message coming from Bethlehem is very clear: If you continue détente, we'll do more to stop the separatists from harassing your country," said Kiang. "This is all coming at a time when more voters are buying into the belief that Namo-Luziycan rapprochement is eroding Namor's political and economic sovereignty. But by arresting OGIE's leaders, Luziyca is showing that it's willing to do anything to keep the relationship alive as it is, even if it means putting longtime Luziycan proxies behind bars."

Former Namorese ambassador to Luziyca Yi Heng said Bethlehem's move "is significant that it may sway public opinion ahead of the election."

"Detractors of the détente process may think again about voting for the Popular Front," he said. "They might give domestic defenders of the process, namely the New Democrats, another chance. But it's too early to tell now if this will be the case."

Reacting to Anisim's arrest, Popular Front front-runner Tao James warned that the incident does not necessarily signal a change in Luziyca's policy of supporting instability in Txotai.

"They're still going to spare the separatists who don't belong in Anisim's camp, the ones they consider 'moderate,'" Tao said. "But I highly doubt they're going to do what we want them to do, which is to recognize Txotai as Namorese and cease bothering the Namorese people."

The Liberationist Party's Shohai Antelope expressed similar sentiments. "It's all a deluding sales campaign. Luziyca's trying to prop up the New Democrats. If the New Democrats win, I bet you the Luziycans will release Anisim and the others. Then life will go on as usual."

COLD COMFORT FOR OTEKI
Otekians protest OGIE leadership's arrest

Image
Otekian supporters of OGIE march in vigil
FRONTIERSBURG, UPPER YORK, LUZIYCA: "Free Oteki!," "Free Valeriy!," "Traitors be damned!" were among the slogans chanted by demonstrators in Frontiersburg as they marched up and down the city streets, demanding that authorities free President Valeriy Anisim and other senior officials of the Otekian Government.

In a move that pleased the Namorese occupation but enraged the Otekian community, the Luziycan government launched an operation with the goal of placing the government's leaders under arrest. Adding offense to injury, the authorities named the operation "Liberate Gusev" - the same name used by the Namorese Liberationists when they re-occupied the Otekian capital of Gusev in 1970.

Anisim and others were arrested due to allegations of tax evasion. Luziyca says Anisim owes the Frontiersburg, Upper York and Federal governments ₤387,000,000 ($774,000,000) in lost revenues.

Unsurprisingly, Namor welcomed news of Anisim's arrest with glee, congratulating Luziyca and urging that Anisim and other top officials be handed over to Namor so that they can be tried there. Namorese media boasted that Luziyca views relations with Namor as more important than its relations with the Otekians.

Whereas the Luziycan government sees Anisim's arrest as a reaction to tax fraud, Otekians see it as a stab in the back by their hosts. Over 20,000 people from across the Otekian exile community in Upper York state marched together in a demonstration protesting Anisim's arrest and demanding that the President be freed. Marchers held torches, waved Otekian flags as well as Luziycan flags as a sign of respect towards their Luziycan hosts. Even so, many demonstrators say they're disappointed by Luziyca's "betrayal" of the Otekian community.

"I thought of the Luziycans as our friends. They housed us, they raised us, and they fed us. We promised each other that we would be out of Frontiersburg soon, that we would return to Oteki after expelling the Namorese. But never would I never imagine our friends turning against us and arresting our president," said 68 year-old Vaska Makariy, who was 23 when he fled his homeland, losing his uncle along the way. "I'm bitter."

"Have you forgotten us, Mr. Shjoraski? We still exist, Mrs. Svensson!" hollered George Yermolai, who was answered by cheering and hoots. "Oteki lives, but you're trying to kill it! Why? Do the Namorese matter more than we do? Aren't we human enough? Free Oteki and Valeriy now!"

"Frankly, I'm not surprised. Since the beginning of this year, the Luziycans have grown increasingly hostile towards us, for reasons unknown," said Gregory Yuri. "We protested when president-elect Sera Svensson called us terrorists. I don't want to think that Luziyca is acting like the Namorese oppressors, but it's starting to look like it. Yes, it's unfortunate."

Anisim's arrest wasn't received positively even from the government-in-exile's rivals in the Otekian National Coalition (ONC).

"I agree that if Mr. Anisim committed tax evasion, he should pay the price. But this is looking a lot like the beginning of the end of the Otekian cause in Luziyca, and it shouldn't be that way," said ONC chairman Kolya Vitalik. "Hopefully Luziyca views us as equals and reiterates its commitment to fighting for Otekian freedom in a civilized way." Vitalik did not attend the demonstrations.

Due to Namor's tight control of the flow of information in and out of occupied Oteki, it remains unclear whether protests similar to those in Frontiersburg erupted behind the barrier in response to Valeriy Anisim's arrest. But informants based in Frontiersburg claim that spontaneous protests broke out in numerous towns and villages in the western part of the country, only to be suppressed by Namorese occupation authorities. Sources say up to 40 people were arrested in Oteki for taking part in solidarity protests denouncing Anisim's arrest.

An unnamed source from Lagania claimed that upon receiving news of Luziyca's detention of the Otekian government's leaders, Namorese occupation authorities immediately delivered the news to detainees held in the Nanniwan concentration camp. The news threw many detainees into a frenzy; it is rumored that singer Manya Valerija, illegally confined in Nanniwan for challenging Namorese rule, committed suicide by hanging herself in her prison cell. However, this claim has yet to be independently verified.

Why Shjoraski must feel ashamed of himself

Image
Protesters filling the Square of Nations

FRONTIERSBURG, UPPER YORK - Protests have broken out after Operation Liberate Gusev was conducted that saw the arrest of 33 senior officials, including President Valeriy Anisim for tax evasion: not just in Frontiersburg, but allegedly in Oteki and, notably, in the rest of the country.

In Gijirokastra, 60,000 people protested the arrest of Valeriy Anisim at the Square of Nations, with organizer Josef Todorov declaring it a "violation of our sacred duty to help our Otekian brethren," and many chanted "We have a duty to help Oteki!" Otekian and Luziycan flags were flown, but a few were arrested for burning Luziycan flags as a symbol of the betrayal to the Otekians.

Many major cities seen similar numbers of protests: even in the liberal city of Jerusalem, a common slogan chanted by the 40,000 protesters were "We remain friends, even if the government turns its back on you."

Sera Svensson posted a video on Facebook and Twitter to try and calm the protests among the Otekian community: in her video, she explains that "We admit that both Shjoraski and myself have agreed to take action. We know it feels like a betrayal, much like the betrayal against our Qianrongese brothers and sisters last summer."
"However, I shall make a promise to not just you on the streets, but to all Otekians: they shall not be extradited to Namor, unless if there is clear evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that they have orchestrated terrorist attacks," she explains. "We will remain committed to assisting Otekians residing here, and we shall continue to support maximum devolution for the northwestern region [of Namor], as well as negotiations that could lead to Otekians being able to return. But we cannot support violence to liberate your homeland. We cannot support extremist ideologies. In any case, Otekians will still have the freedom of speech, they will still have the right to protest, so long as they do not devolve into violence. They will remain protected by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms so long as they are on Luziycan soil."
"That all being said," she added, "Anisim was not arrested for criticizing Namor, or using violent means. It is because they have, over the past 18 years, committed significant tax evasion against the city, the state, and the federal government."

Shjoraski has issued a statement that "Anisim will not be pardoned."

Many government officials have criticized the arrests, including Social Credit leader Paul Nikolovich, who explained that "This move is only for the benefit of detente itself. They want the Namorese to continue detente, and thus, they decide to arrest the higher officials of the OGIE so to suppress them and so to make the pro-Namo ONC serve as the only Otekian representative here in the country." Many state governors have also opposed the arrests, although Upper York has defended the decision to arrest and charge the OGIE officials for tax evasion.
