BREAKING NEWS: General Jóvanne-Márco Sáltucéri seizes power in coup.

Image
General Jóvanne-Márco Sáltucéri has been
named President after he
led a bloodless coup against
Wiktór Kozlowski.

SZIMÓNGÔCZ - At 5:21 today, reports around Szimóngôcz attested that general Jóvanne-Márco Sáltucéri has, with the blessing of the ruling National Union for the Resurgence of Lecistan, overtaken the powers of the President, effectively leading a bloodless coup against President Wiktór Kozlowski. Sáltucéri entered the halls of the Royal Chamber, and with around three-thirds of the deputies from the National Union, locked themselves in the debate chamber and sworn in Sáltucéri as President. Supporters flocked to the Royal Chamber, and have blocked road access to the building, putting Szimóngôcz police on high alert.

Sáltucéri has stated his reasons to overthrowing Kozlowski's administration are due to the increasing political instability in Lecistan, with republican forces still holding out in Brzny and the emergence of a Odissian terrorist group in the southwest possibly performing acts which under international law could fall under genocide. Under his month-long term, Kozlowski had, according to Sáltucéri, "failed to respond accordingly". President Sáltucéri stated he plans to squash the opposing forces to Lecistan's government quickly, with a force of 10,000 heading north to Brzny and 50,000 to the southwestern border with Odissia.

The bloodless nature of the coup can be attributed to Kozlowski's absence in Lecistan. Leaked files released today show the former President was in hiding in Nevanmaa after martial law was declared in late July. Regarding the Grand Duke, Sáltucéri has said "[he] wishes to compromise and gain his Holiness' [Juhani's] favour. I do not wish to replace him or even belittle him. I simple wish to gain results in these troubling times."

Looking away from Nautasia
Namor and Riro are planning to build an oil pipeline - and combat the energy crisis
Report by Shu Tu in Chunov, Riro; Yu Ping in Huankun, Xhipei; Chen Txojun in Namo

Image
Countries across Esquarium are bracing for what the Financier is calling "the worst recession since 1980." Part of what's causing the meltdown is the spike in oil prices thanks to the instability in Nautasia. This can have a profound impact on world economies, as most still depend on fossil fuels to stay stable. Namor - which is among the numerous countries that run on Kraqi and Irvadi petroleum - is starting to reduce its dependence on Nautasia, signaled by the Executive House's announcement that it will begin talks with Riro to build the long proposed oil pipeline connecting Riro's tar pits with Namorese cities. President-General Fu himself is expected to visit Riro for the first time in his presidency in a second high profile meeting with Riroese leaders to discuss the project.

It is unlikely that such a project, in the short term, may shield Namor or Riro from the recession that most economists agree is inevitable. When a journalist asked Executive House spokesperson Tang Pin if the purpose of the pipeline is to make the recession's impact in Namor less painful, he returned with a short reply: "Achieving energy independence has been on the President-General's agenda. The President-General concurs with public opinion that energy independence is a good thing for the Namorese people."

Riro, or what was formerly eastern Katranjiev, is a major source of tar sands in Esquarium. 1/8ths of the country is made up of tar pits; in fact, many Riroese (and Katranjians) make ends meet by working at the tar pits. Energy organizations estimate that up to 100 billion barrels of petroleum are produced in Riro's tar pits - a major stimulus for Riroese, Katranjian (and possibly Namorese) growth.

The idea of building a Namo-Katranjian pipeline is not new. Yunglang Antelope had proposed building one after a Liberationist, pro-Namorese government seized power in neighboring Katranjiev. This was part of Yunglang's vision of a world where "free" countries traded with each other, free from "imperialist manipulation."

But neither country had the technological capability to build a pipeline that decade. The sixties and seventies were marked by social chaos that made construction impossible, the eighties saw an ideological split between Namo and Krasimir, and by the nineties Katranjiev's pro-Luziycan monarchy had been restored.

Now that part of Katranjiev had seceded and is in most practical cases one with the People's Republic, Namo sees the best time to build a pipeline at last. President-General Fu Wen supported a pipeline, citing the need for "energy independence." Riroese counterparts are also enthusiastic about the idea; President Ling Mon described it as a "rainbow connecting us with our brethren, our prosperity."

In addition to merely reducing dependence, the pipeline has the potential to do what both Namor and Riro need to stay warm through the "long and painful winter" of recession - create jobs. "It is estimated that a pipeline connecting a tar pit [in Riro] with Namor can create up to 50,000 jobs, if not more," said former opposition leader Deng Mianbao, a staunch supporter of a pipeline. "This will give Riro everything it needs to survive an ensuing debt crisis." With Namor paying off Riro's debt, the fledgling state does not have to worry about a debt crisis anytime soon.

Environmental concerns are prevalent, though. Many in both the left and right worry a pipeline may damage Namor's much-needed freshwater supplies in the southwestern districts of Xhipei and Xhinan, saying it's worth going through an energy crisis than to run out of drinking water. Former President-General Alicia Wolf says she wants the government to spend more time developing sustainable projects. But even critics of the project understand that Namor's clout rests upon its economic performance, threatened by the looming recession and whatever it may bring.

There seems to be a growing desire in Namo for a pipeline with Riro to be built, sooner the better. As Fu heads to Chunov to meet with Ling Mon this week, we will begin to see specific plans of the long awaited pipeline construction project unfold. The pipeline may not be finished - if not started - by the time the "long and painful winter" begins. But this is more than just trying to mitigate a recession. It's about turning away from longtime sources of world oil - and instability.

Sæxish parliament votes to deliver military aid to Qianrong
AUGUST 25, 2015- Fiscawic, Sæxland/Yucheng, Qianrong- On Tuesday and Thursday the Sæxish parliament spent a total of 9 hours debating the President's proposed motion to send several thousand surplus surface-to-surface missiles to the Second Independent State of Qianrong. The recent success of the "Revolutionary Peoples' Army for Egalitarianism" a red terrorist group in Qianrong has been of great worry to Sæxland. President Ecgwulf Oswinessunu summed-up the position of the government with "This is not so much a strategic act as a moral one. Sæxland faced a similar problem with communist traitors around a 100 years ago, and will not sit back while the red menace spreads. Qianrong is a fledgling democracy, much like Sæxland was at the time, and we feel, that as a small nation with a large weapons stockpile, that it would be immoral for us not to do what we can to help see that democracy prevails over the evil forces of communist terrorism."

The motion carried after intense debate, with MPs from both the opposition Liberal and Social Democratic Parties and the ruling Nationalist Party worrying that the weapons sent to fight the communists could end up falling into their hands. The Nativist Party was mixed on the issue, with most arguing that Sæxland should not involve itself in Qianrong's war, while a minority believed that Sæxland should do whatever it can to help prevent the spread of communism in kindred republican democracies. In the end the vote was 61 for, 8 abstaining, and 29 against.

Polls show the decision was popular among the public, and the president's approval rating has increased slightly.

Sæxland condemns Ziegenhain over genocide
AUGUST 25, 2015- Fiscawic, Sæxland- In a motion passed unanimously by Sæxland's parliament, the "Greater Ziegenian Reich" was condemned by the Sæxish state on behalf of the Sæxish people for genocide and misuse of Germanic culture. The motion "strongly condemns the 'Greater Ziegenian Reich' for its crimes against humanity and total denial of human rights which are the gods-given rights of all Germanic peoples".

QIANRONG TODAY
Today's top stories about events within and about Qianrong

Qi says that her government will take "all appropriate actions" should Esquarium be hit by a region-wide recession
AUGUST 26, 2015- Yucheng, Qianrong- Prime Minister Qi Chien-Xuan told reporters today that her government would take "all appropriate actions" should a predicted Esquarian economic collapse come into fruition, though she has refused to name specific policy points to the media. "We are considering a variety of possible courses, and if this crisis does actually occur, then I can assure you that we will be ready."

Image
Qi's lack of specifics may be to keep
her economically unwieldy governing
coalition together.
Fears of a potential region-wide economic depression have been stoked after Frederic Mans of the Royal Bank of Versant Plateaus published an article in the Financier financial newspaper, citing nearly twenty-five years of economic growth across Esquarium and increasingly unstable situations in Nautasia and South Conitia. Fears were further stoked by news of increasing economic uncertainty in Arkiasis, the Ocelot Isles, and Vordallia, with nations such as Geadland, Riro, and Namor already beginning to consider possible preventative measures. In the eyes of many economists, an Esquarium-wide economic meltdown is now viewed as imminent within the next few years or even the next few months. The Qianrongese economy is already in a weak position, largely due to the Winter Rebellion and Second Domestic Terror War, as well as the INTERPROS hackings of the Yucheng Stock Exchange and the Bank of Qianrong. Any sort of massive economic meltdown would almost assuredly further worsen Qianrong's already fragile economic position.

Qi's lack of policy point specifics may be an attempt to keep her governing coalition, which is bound more by national defense and international relations than economic policy, intact. The Democratic Labor and People's Progressive parties both support increased government intervention and the creation of some sort of economic safety net like the one that existed in the First Independent State. The Qianrongese Patriotic Front, however, is firmly in favor of laissez-faire economic policy; the Front for Change and Liberty has no coherent economic platform of any sort. Qi's coalition is presently only one seat short of a legislative supermajority, and there is no doubt that the Qi government would like to retain that power. With the coalition holding fractured views on economics, Qi unsurprisingly wants as little to do with economics as possible until it becomes too critical of an issue to ignore, when she might be able to force otherwise unwilling coalition members to take the actions she wants.

Final ASQ remnants collapsing as National Self-Defense Forces retake Aoshi, but RPAE terrorists continue to expand their reach
AUGUST 26, 2015- Shanliang, Qianrong- The National Self-Defense Forces have had yet another mixed day as progress was made against the surviving fragments of the Alliance for Sovereignty in Qianrong and lost against the Revolutionary People's Army for Equalitarianism. In spite of the mixed fortunes, however, Supreme Commandant Guan Xin-Ren told reporters that he is "confident" that the Second Domestic Terror War should be over soon.

Image
International action has not
stopped the meteoric rise of Long's
Revolutionary People's Army.
The largest success for the military today came with the liberation of Aoshi, one of the few cities to ever be entirely under the control of the Alliance for Sovereignty in Qianrong. The fall of Aoshi to the ASQ following a "strategic retreat" conducted by the military triggered mass flight by the city's overwhelmingly Yinglidao population, who would be subject to persecution and mass slaughter by the ASQ terrorists in their campaign to "purify" the Qianrongese Archipelago. Some of the city's inhabitants were not so lucky; the ASQ murdered many captured civilians en masse. They also sacked the city, razing churches and the city's abandoned otekitown and shudritown. With the city once again in government hands, the many refugees who fled it can begin returning home to rebuild. The fall of Aoshi also marks a massive victory against the ASQ, which is on the definite retreat has been reduced to guerrilla attacks.

In Minjian, however, the news was darker as the Revolutionary People's Army for Equalitarianism, an ally of the ASQ, marched on many cities along the island's eastern seaboard. Though the ASQ has been on the wane since Esquarileaks revealed that Ngo Huu Tra was dead, the RPAE has been rising as its partner falls. RPAE leader Long Jiao-Dan, after conquering the major port city of Xiangmen, declared himself the leader of a new Qianrongese Soviet Republic; he has vowed to continue his campaign until its victory or his death. "We will break the shackles of every man, woman, and child in Qianrong," he declared in a speech on August 22.

The success of the RPAE is wholly temporary, though, according to Supreme Commandant of the National Self-Defense Forces Guan Xin-Ren. "Once the NSDF and its allies abroad have defeated the ASQ, the resources and men who went to fighting them will be able to join the fight against the terrorists in the so-called Revolutionary People's Army. As such, these losses will be recaptured as soon as we can possibly afford to shift our strategy against this terror alliance... as the ASQ grows weaker and weaker, what the RPAE does is irrelevant. Victory grows nearer and nearer."

Winter Rebellion trial turns controversial as National Rights and Liberties Index expresses doubts about trial's fairness
AUGUST 26, 2015- Yucheng, Qianrong- The trial of self-proclaimed Acting Chancellors Guo Tse-Zu and Mataas Pangahatang, who are to be tried for the military coup that provoked the Winter Rebellion and for their attempts to crush dissenters and peaceful protesters, has run into a serious hurdle as the National Rights and Liberties Index- led by none other than their former opponent Li Jian-Zheng himself- announced that it had "serious concerns" about the fairness of the trial.

Image
Li Jian-Zheng expressed
concerns that the
government has been
denying the right to
evidence disclosure.
Li Jian-Zheng himself delivered the NRLI's concerns to the press in a statement made before a press junket earlier today. "This is not about my political opinions of former Deputy Defense and Intelligence Minister Guo and former NPP General Secretary Pangahatang, or about whether or not the charges against them are valid. That's not why I am here before you today," Li explained. "This is about several serious issues that have made those of us at the National Rights and Liberties Index worry that this trial may not be fully complying with all legal doctrines established by the Second Independent State." Li cited that the team of lawyers working for Guo and Pangahatang had repeatedly asked for delays, insisting that they had not been given evidence to be used by the prosecution and had not been given sufficient time to review any prosecution documents. If these allegations are true, they would violate the legal right to evidence disclosure and a retrial might be necessary. "Until these issues are rectified, we will remain intensely skeptical of the fairness and legitimacy of this trial," Li concluded.

The trial has previously come under fire from Guo, Pangahatang, and their lawyers. "What we are seeing right now is nothing more than political venegance," Pangahatang's lawyer told the press on August 18. "This is unbecoming of the Qianrongese government and this sort of fiasco should not occur in any truly democratic nation." While Prime Minister Qi Chien-Xuan and President Lin Chuan-Yeng have both expressed utmost confidence in the fairness and independence of the post-Rebellion Qianrongese judiciary, others have been skeptical, with Senator Wu Guo-Sun and Vice President Song Li-Chao both expressing concerns about perceived irregularities in the proceedings.

Guo and Pangahatang, who are being tried together, have been charged with armed insurrection, premeditated murder of public officials, repression of civil liberties, crimes against humanity, and high treason; it is possible that they could be executed if they are found guilty. Both have plead not guilty to the charges levied against them, with both planning to maintain that the charges levied against them are falsified and that all actions they undertook were for the benefit of the Qianrongese nation. "Everything that I did as Acting Chancellor was to prevent disorder, fight terrorism, and guarantee the security of the Qianrongese nation," a defiant Guo told reporters earlier this month. "I am confident that any truly unbiased jury will see this for the truth it is."

Zari Hydrocarbons Ltd. announces discovery of massive oil reserve northwest of Pavelgrad
Image
Zari Hydrocarbons Ltd. headquarters in Shenitgrad

SHENITGRAD, NAMBOSAN - It is official: after years of exploration for oil in Shibdanese territorial waters, one small company, Zari Hydrocarbons Limited, has announced that there are indeed massive oil deposits in the northwest of Pavelgrad, with conservative estimates of around five billion barrels of oil in the maritime waters of Shibdan and Irtyusha, making it one of the largest discoveries of conventional oil reserves in the present century.

CEO Brad Lehrevic of Zari Hydrocarbons has said, "Our geologic surveys on the Punli Strait separating Shibdan from Irtyusha to the northwest of Pavelgrad have shown that there are proven oil reserves. We estimate that there are about five billion barrels of oil at this oil field alone, at the low end, and at the high end, about fifty billion barrels. However, we are too small to effectively make a large scale operation of this field, and thus, we are willing for corporations who drill and sell oil to come to Pavelgrad and negotiate a deal between the two of us. However, we have not drilled test wells yet due to the political situation between us and Irtyusha."

President Simeon Vladimirov has praised the discovery of oil reserves by Zari Hydrocarbons, saying that "in 2011, Luziycans have estimated that there are probable reserves around Shibdan, and in a time where the economy may suffer in Esquarium, there is one place which will survive the coming recession unscathed, if not better than other."

Rotislav Sankun has explained delight that "Zari Hydrocarbons have managed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that there are oil reserves. I sincerely hope that Shibdan and Irtyusha can agree to let the drilling of oil commence, so both of us can grow richer and provide a better standard of living to all people."

Zari Hydrocarbons Ltd. are currently trading as penny stocks, but the chief financial officer of Zari Hydrocarbons, Andrei Ostrovski has said that "this discovery of oil to the northwest of Pavelgrad shall incentive us to start trading our shares in Gijirokastra, Bethlehem, Unolia, and Hartly."

More as the story develops.

Brzny falls after Lecistani reinforcements take city hall.

BRZNY - The joint Lecistani-Nevan-Filimon army has confirmed that, after reinforcements of 10,000 Lecistani troops arrived in the city, the force was able to break the People's Republican Army of Lecistan's barricade in the Old Town. Military reports confirm that a Nevan force broke into the city hall, the centre of the terrorist group that has terrorized the city for a month, and killed roughly 52 opposing soldiers, including the self-declared "Head Deputy" and leader of the Society of Socialists Matéùsz Szmolak. Brzny itself has come under full military control, and it expected that the local government may come under control of the military until further notice, in order to quell any aftershocks of the rebellion.

President Jóvanne-Márco Sáltucéri, who after gaining power two days ago personally sent out the reinforcements, has sated joy at the return of Brzny to Lecistani control, and hopes that similar tactics in the southwest against a supposedly Knights of the Blessed Sapphire-backed Odissian militia was return similar results.

Whitewashing Luziycan contributions to the Second Great War
The war to end militarism was an allied effort, but our textbooks are too politically correct to admit it
Opinion piece by Chen Wenguk

Image
"Our historical disdain for Luziycan imperialism has created a
political correctness so strong that it is nearly impossible for
Namorese...to accept the magnitude of Luziyca's positive
contributions in shaping the post-SGW world order."
On Sept. 1, the Memorial for the Battle of Dangan will be opened to commemorate the anniversary of the 1942 battle in which Allied forces successfully wiped out an entire division of Chorean troops, paving the road towards an Allied victory in northern Namor. The names of 7,000 Namorese soldiers, Republicans, Liberationists and independents alike, will be inscribed on the memorial, as well as the names of hundreds of other Allied troops from the two Luziycas, Walminghaven, Geadland and Vjaarland. Despite this, Dangan mayor Chi Kuangli gave little - if not too little - acknowledgement to the role foreign - especially Luziycan - forces played in liberating Namor from Chorean imperialism, giving credit instead to the "brave Namorese men, women and children who stood for our country."

As a Namorese and the grandchild of a veteran who lost his limbs in a firefight with the enemy in Dangan, I feel this is wrong. Yes, it is true that the liberation of Namor was done mostly by Namorese; yes, it is true that millions of Namorese lost their lives to secure a victory in the Second Great War. But we could've not done it without the help of other allies, especially the East Luziycans.

The role the Luziycan Armed Forces played in shipping supplies to the front line, delivering armaments support and logistical support is greatly downplayed in our history textbooks. Strangely enough, the same textbooks underscore the huge losses inflicted upon the Chorean navy by Aininian servicemen, and Walmish coordination of the Shang Chon landing.

Textbooks don't deny the Luziycas were on the Allied side, but their unwillingness to mention that nearly a million East Luziycan troops were on Namorese soil (more than any other foreign country), that it was the East Luziycans who played a pivotal role in capturing the Chorean capital of Olachoo, and that Jung To relied consistently on East Luziycan military and political support, is a suggestion that East Luziyca's role in the war was minimal. Strangely enough, the same textbooks have a field day crowing about Jung To's dependence on Bethlehem in the subsequent Namorese civil war.

And students are too lackadaisical to do the research themselves. A survey showed that only 35 percent of Namorese from ages 16 to 30 believe Luziyca played a substantial role in the Second Great War. If that doesn't sound alarming, then it should be mentioned the 35 percent is just part of the 47 percent of Namorese who know either East or West Luziyca fought in the war on the Allied side.

The problem is that our historical disdain for "Luziycan imperialism" has created a political correctness so strong that it is nearly impossible for Namorese - be they in history class or watching television at prime time - to accept the magnitude of Luziyca's positive contributions in shaping the post-Second Great War world order. Our supposed rival's involvement is being whitewashed by a Ministry of Education that thinks children are more erudite in history by learning about Luziyca's occupation of Nantai rather than the fact that 90 percent of all Allied non-Namorese deaths in the Namorese battleground are Luziycan.

Fortunately, we can change this. With the absence of once prevalent state-sponsored historical revisionism, we've already come clean about the Republicans being the major force in the Namorese resistance, the crimes committed during the Green Fever, negative impacts of Northern Development and other issues the government would have preferred to erase from our consciousness. As we commemorate all those who died in Dangan, let us forget how we owe part of our sovereignty today to the enemy we were taught to despise for so long.

Ijaþan In Panic After Explosion Racks Downtown
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
IJAÞAN, GED GOCHIN - A cultic group known as Raht Laredirdzun'h vad Dui are claiming responsibility for an attack in the Ged Gochin Provincial capital of Ijaþan today. At around 10:00 AM, a van parked near the capital building exploded, with current casualties being 159 people dead, 536 injured, and another 20 reported missing after the blast. The group claims this was in retaliation for their official designation as a threat, and the prior searching of one of their properties which led to the arrest of one of their higher echelon members. The leader, Nzhaqfetir Duijod, believed to have ordered the attack, is currently the most wanted man in Hyd Gohin. The group itself is small and numbers less than the total of injuries and deaths from the attack at 330 members. The majority of the leadership apparently committed suicide, believing that they had done their part for their deities. Nzhaqfetir is known to be alive, but has probably already fled to the forested island just off of the Hemvad Hidzib Province's northeast coast. The group intended to start an internal power struggle that would lead to civil war, yet instead simply wasted an unforgiveable amount of human life. The country is currently on high alert with borders closed.

FAIRNESS, SHMAIRNESS?
During the Winter Rebellion, Li Jian-Zheng fought long and hard to protect human rights from Guo Tse-Zu and Mataas Pangahatang-
Now, Li and his NRLI are apparently fighting the government to protect the rights of Guo and Pangahatang themselves.

Image
"This issue of basic human rights ranks above my personal opinions of the accused," Li told reporters.

YUCHENG, QIANRONG- AUGUST 27th, 2015 - Former Acting Chancellor Li Jian-Zheng told reporters that he was "increasingly confident" that the trial of his Winter Rebellion rivals Guo Tse-Zu and Mataas Pangahatang was unfairly rigged against them after Prime Minister Qi Chien-Xuan said that the Ministry of the Interior would not be investigating allegations of rights violations by the government.

The trial of Guo and Pangahatang, the two individuals who declared themselves Acting Chancellor in opposition to Li Jian-Zheng, began on August 20. The pair are being charged with armed insurrection, premeditated murder of public officials, repression of civil liberties, crimes against humanity, and high treason. If they are found guilty by the jury, then they could possibly be sentenced to death by the judge. The trial has been named "Qianrong's most important trial to date", with analysts saying that the results of the trial could be a critical factor in whether or not the wounds of the Winter Rebellion heal or not. The entire Qianrongese nation is watching what may truly become a defining event in our nation's history.

Image
Guo has expressed skepticism about Li's true intentions, but maintains that the allegations he makes are true.

Doubts about the case's fairness plagued it from the beginning. On August 18, when the trial date was announced, Mataas Pangahatang's lawyer described the charges as "political venegance," adding that "this is unbecoming of the Qianrongese government and this sort of fiasco should not occur in any truly democratic nation." A defiant Guo Tse-Zu told reporters that the "charges are little more than fabrications and slander... Everything that I did as Acting Chancellor was to prevent disorder, fight terrorism, and guarantee the security of the Qianrongese nation. I am confident that any truly unbiased jury will see this for the truth it is."

But now the lawyers representing Guo and Pangahatang have more than a feeling. They have presented evidence to the National Rights and Liberties Index and the general public that the judicial right to evidence disclosure- the right of a defendant to see evidence that the prosecution plans on using if he requests it- is being denied to the defense. They have also repeatedly been denied delays to the trial- with the goal of preventing the defense from being able to review prosecution documents, they allege. The allegations are serious, given that one of the reasons that the Winter Rebellion occurred was out of a desire to take the Qianrongese judiciary, nothing more than kangaroo courts under the FDRQ, and turn it into a legitimately fair judiciary. If the allegations are true, it represents a major loss for everything that the Winter Rebellion stood for- possibly marking the beginning of a transition of the Winter Rebellion into what is known as a full-circle revolution, where the start and end situations are disturbingly similar.

Mataas Pangahatang denounced the trial as a farce before it had even begun; he has echoed those sentiments since.

Li Jian-Zheng had extensively vocalized his concerns about the trial, saying that there were "several serious issues" with the trial. "Until these issues are rectified, [the National Rights and Liberties Index, which Li runs] will remain intensely skeptical of the fairness and legitimacy of this trial." He was not alone; Senator Wu Guo-Sun, Vice President Song Li-Chao, Opposition Leader Le Gia Dinh, and Senator Zhong Fang-Ye all expressed concerns about the fairness of the trial, highlighting other potential irregularities in how the trial was being carried out.

And earlier today, they got a response from Prime Minister Qi Chien-Xuan- and it was not the one they wanted. "If I believed there was sufficient evidence to warrant an investigation into these allegations, then I would not only allow it, I would endorse it," Prime Minister Qi told the press today. "But after intense discussions with my cabinet and several concerned or involved individuals, there is simply not enough evidence to warrant an investigation at this time. Simply put, I have no serious reasons to doubt the fairness or independence of this country's judiciary... The money that might have been spent on this will be going to fighting terrorist groups, not being wasted on wild goose chase investigations." Shortly thereafter, President Lin Chuan-Yeng issued his own statement, largely echoing Qi. "With so little evidence to back these claims, we must instead focus on less fictional issues," he told other legislators today.

Image
Prime Minister Qi Chien-Xuan told a press junket that there was "not enough evidence" to justify an investigation.

This decision has provoked intense condemnation from Li and his National Rights and Liberties Index. An official NRLI statement said that "Regardless of the amount of evidence, this is an incredibly serious issue that is fixated around how we deliver justice and if we live up to our own values... this is a critical issue that must be extensively investigated." Li himself tweeted that the decision was "greatly worrying", saying that he and his organization would also "continue advocating for more guarantees of fair trials and judicial independence." Opposition Leader Le, possibly feeling cynical, was overheard quipping to political ally Ren Tao-Zhe that "I bent the law to feed starving refugees and was ousted from office; Qi breaks the law to rig a trial and she gets thunderous applause." The legal team representing Guo and Pangahatang also released a statement, expressing "disappointment but no surprise" at the decision. "We have held that this trial is little more than fabricated political vengeance and that the charges presented are fantasies created to hand down a twisted version of justice... this only confirms our fears."

The reaction among Qianrongese civilian appears to be greatly mixed. Many Qianrongese have gone online to express worry that the government is deviating from its stated basic principles, but many have also expressed extreme skepticism about the validity of the evidence. A survey conducted on August 25 by Renmin Husheng Polling suggested that a narrow majority of Qianrongese were confident that Guo and Pangahatang would be convicted of the crimes they are accused of even in a fair trial situation. Online, some have expressed support for the defendants or for the government- or in many cases, confusion at the concept of Li Jian-Zheng and Guo Tse-Zu on the same side of an issue. And surveys suggest that opinions on the trial's fairness vary widely between those who supported the Li government and those who supported the Guo-Pangahatang government during the Winter Rebellion. Supporters of Li believed- by a narrow majority- that the trial was fair, with a large majority saying that the duo deserved to be found guilty. But supporters of Guo and Pangahatang believed overwhelmingly that the trial was rigged or untrustworthy, and maintained that the pair should be found innocent. Regardless, this Summer Trial is an uncomfortable reminder that the Winter Rebellion is not as distant as we may like to think.

DEFENSE SECRETARIAT MOVES TROOPS TO BORDERS AMONG WARMONGERING ACCUSATIONS

by JUAN GUSTAVO PINILLA ROJAS - AUGUST 27 2014

LOS DOPICOS, TRUE CORTOGUAY - Upon the recent allegations that the True Cortoguayan government has manufactured several bombs in connection with the Michillian Metro bombing over 20 days ago, the People's Army has deployed several troops to both the Michillian and Imperialist Cortoguayan puppet-borders. Their official assignment is to strengthen the two borders from any possible incursions by the social-imperialist puppet armies on the pretense of "defense from terrorist attacks". All servicepersons on those two fronts are prepared to defend the fatherland with their lives.

The attack in question was committed by an as-of-yet unidentified group of freedom fighters in the Michillies, undoubtedly one seeking to free the proletariat from the oppressive "republican" rule. However the Michillian Authority has seen fit to blame this attack on the glorious forces of True, Free Cortoguay, based on the obviously-false words of their weapons "experts" in Christiana.

Our Glorious Paramount Leader Premier Arturo Peralta, however, has remained level-headed amongst these baseless accusations. Wisely, he has not seen fit to respond directly to these blatant attacks of True Cortoguayan sovereignty. "We will not fall prey to the social-imperialist slanderous lies espoused by the bourgeoisie dictatorship in the Michillies. While we applaud these unidentified freedom fighters for this worthy attempt at proletariat liberation, any attempt by the Michillian government to violate our sovereign borders on the pretexts of these attacks will not be tolerated; the same goes to the treacherous puppet-authority in the east. All foreign threats to our nation, no matter in what form they are: 'diplomatic' accusations or military invasions, they w ill be repelled no matter the cost; we will make sure of that."

On orders of Military Commissar Basilio Rubio-Lopez, the pre-existing units of the Occupied North Combined Force (along the Michillian "border") and the East Authority Combined Force (along the "border" of the Puppet Authority) entered into a wartime state at 0300 this morning (the seventh time our hand has been forced within ten years), and are currently fully armed to launch surprise counterattack operations. In addition, reserve units have been activated and dispatched to the Montenian frontier, providing the Capitalist Pig-Dogs choose to strike through a neutral country. All border outposts are currently being closely monitored. Several of the Michillian war centres and genocide-bases are currently targeted CPA's multiple rocket launchers and tactical and strategic rocket forces. In addition to this, all units within the designated Frontline Border Areas are on

Now, the CPA soldiers bravely wait for the war maniacs who may attempt to cross the border.

Zari Hydrocarbons Ltd. requests assistance
Image
Zari Hydrocarbons Ltd. headquarters in Shenitgrad

SHENITGRAD, NAMBOSAN - With the discovery of oil on the Punli Strait separating Irtyusha and Shibdan by Zari Hydrocarbons Ltd, CEO Brad Lehrevic has announced a request for oil companies to invest in extracting the oil from what Zari Hydrocarbons has called the "Koyohan Achim" (Morning Calm) oil field in the Punli Strait.

Over the past few days, the conservative estimates have doubled, from five billion barrels to ten billion barrels for the Koyohan Achim oil field, and in what could be the largest discovery of oil reserves in Esquarium in decades, it may bring more hope and prosperity to many Shibdanese, and bring a significant economic boom that can see an influx of immigrants, much like in the 1970s when the uranium mines opened near Urangrad in Nord Naklon.

Thus, CEO Brad Lehrevic has said that "our company is too small to extract all the wonders that the Koyohan Achim oil field has to offer. Thus, we are willing to negotiate so we can get a share in the profits for the development of the Koyohan Achim field, while letting a larger company conduct their operations at the Koyohan Achim field. We expect that development wells shall be drilled for the Koyohan site as soon as December if we can negotiate a deal between them and the [Shibdanese] government."

Lehrevic has confirmed that "we have drilled exploratory wells in the Koyohan Achim field," and showed the results, indicating a promising discovery for hydrocarbons at the site of the exploratory wells, "and I am incredibly certain that these results prove that the Koyohan Achim oil field will prove to be the richest in northern Esquarium."

Luziycan-based company PNK has already expressed interest, with a spokesperson saying that "we have heard news of the discovery by Zari Hydrocarbons, and we are willing to help provide assistance with whatever it needs."

Rotislav Sankun has stated that "at this rate, Shibdan will be the new Kraq or Atlantica: North Velkia has gained a major oil producer, and we strongly anticipate huge dividends as oil gets extracted from the Koyohan Achim oil field in the Punli strait."

As for Zari Hydrocarbons, it has commenced trading on the Gijirokastra Stock Exchange today, which began at sixty-two senti per share, but as of closing tonight, reached thirty-two lira per share.

West Cedarbrook 1 Morning Business Update
Central Bank Slashes Prime Rate
11:30 AM Wrycova Standard Time
Image
In an early morning announcement, West Cedarbrook Central Bank Board Chariman Arthur M. Levine announced a reduction of the prime rate by 1%, from
6.25% to 5.25%. The move had been anticipated by most analysts on East 6th Street, although it had been expected that the move would be made after the High Holy Days,
giving the Central Bank an opportunity to further discover the likelihood of a possible upcoming recession. In brief remarks, Dr. Levine said
"We have been tracking the recovery from the 2010 downturn, and although much progress has been made in employment in the last year, more effort is needed.
Our patient approach to monetary stimulus has spared business and consumers from the threat of inflation even as employment has risen. It is the consensus of
the board that relaxation of rates at this time fits in with our overall macroeconomic direction. Should inflation ensue from instability in fuel prices, that
would be commodity based inflation, in which case monetary policy has limited impact". Board Member Kraska Ben-Ariel added "We are taking this step as a response to current conditions. It has been under consideration all winter, and is not a reaction to any recessionary signs we have seen to this date".

The move is expected to allow for borrowing in the petroleum services, shipping, and refining sectors. Executives at several service providers hailed the move
as allowing for investment in the development of the recently discovered Punli Strait oil fields. Businesses in those sectors are also eagerly awiaitng a special
assessment of risk in North Velkia. To this point assessments of the region have been heavily weighted down by the rating of Koyro, where all Cedarbrookese commerce
must be conducted in the Luziycan Lira. Proponents of more open trade in North Velkia have argued that Shibdanese and Irtyushan ratings should not suffer due to
the Koyro restrictions, seeing as neither nation shares a border with Koyro. In early trading, the Lira is up 0.96% against the Zug.

The action has also been explained as a move to ease the possible impact of a recession on companies by allowing them to revisit self-financing of projects. Most
producers of hard goods have been traditionally reluctant to finance capital improvements through the commercial banking system, preferring to reinvest profits
so as to avoid interest payements and better control the pace of the projects. Although it is not expected that the rate reduction will cause some of the larger
manufacturers, such as Wolf Steel, General Electric Cedarbrook, or Applied Materials.ie to change their approach to project financing, Central Bank analysts are
hoping to encourage second and third tier firms to consider expansion through long term financing. Another target of the move is the lower income segment of the housing
market, already experiencing increased demand as buyers trench back expectations in light of a recession possibility. Some of this demand has been buffered in Wrycova,
with the failure of several large downtown luxury apartment and condominium projects presenting an unusual opportunity for middle income buyers, which has rippled down
the pay scale in the nation's capital. But on the outskirts of most large cities, from Steinhouse to Ironton and Holon, builders have stepped up their purchase of
near-town farmland for development of tract housing. The bank's move is being seen by observers at most Savings and Mortgage banks as filling the need for more affordable
housing, now in higher demand.

The government has responded favorably to the rate reduction. Internal Affairs Secretary Neal Shapiro, contacted at a meeting of the Association of Economists in South Conitia in Alvahado, Vitoria told West Cedarbrook 1 "This really does make sense. My understanding is that Dr. Levine and the Board of Directors had been carefully studying a rate reduction throughout the winter. This can only be seen as a boost for consumers, and for businesses that are looking to expand in the near term".

Hall of Banners on Reshuffle, members eye factions

Image
______________________________________________

The Reshuffle of the Imperial Court, held every three to four years, is now scheduled in the day of Wakuru (白露), the same day the Imperial Examination results are to be released to the public. The last sessions within the court, on the 10th and 16th days of Growth, Her Glorious Highness has called for reshuffle due to some desires of factionalism within the court members. The reshuffle was approved by the Lion's hall and was in effect by the seals of Their Glorious Illustriousnesses. The Hall of Banners has laid down the noble banners of office and is currently being refurbished and renovated for the next court.

With this in mind, the nobles have temporarily withdrawn their positions within the court for reinstation. Most court members have expressed interest or willingness to form or join factions. Lady Miyoji of Naizu noted that she might join the Sikwokumyong. Plans for a new faction were declared by some Tangufal nobles, and will be released by the time of reshuffle.

The Imperial Government has seen a growing amount of nobles who desire for factionalism, the reasons being to increase political activity and outline better the ideological stances of the Kwoktaist-Diarchist court bloc. Religious factions such as the rival Shudaimyong and Tensinmyong have no plans to do anything as of yet other than rejoining the court. Major analysts from both government and private colleges see "Major changes" within the political dynamic of the Realm after the reshuffle.

Lion's Hall to increase funding on Colleges, education
______________________________________________

By seal of His Glorious Majesty, the Glorious Council of State has approved the increase of budget allocation on the Imperial Colleges by 9.46%, taking from Military and Infrastructure. The decision was approved soon after the call for reshuffle. After the increased budget, the Ministry of Knowledge has announced the issuing of new textbooks and related academic paraphernalia and lessened tuition fees for increased studentship in the colleges.

"There is a major need for an increased attention to teaching the Min people. The education of the people must not be facilitated by priests and monks alone, but also by people who knows the heartbeat and the language of the layperson. We must also educate the people of other lands, make them be more aware of what is happening outside our realm to increase mindfulness in the Lion's Banner. With mindfulness we shall cultivate progress and true upholding of our values of happiness, truth, openness, harmony, freedom and peace." Minister of Knowledge, Ishi Kiyoru said in his statement after the approval.

Many professors and archivists of the Imperial Colleges have expressed enthusiasm and support over the approval, mirroring the words of the Eminent Minister.

Fu visits Riro, agreement to build "Nari" oil pipeline reached
Agreement awaiting ratification from legislatures of both countries
President-General: "We should stand foursquare behind this pipeline and get the job done"

August 29, NMR 2377

Image
Chunov, capital of Riro
CHUNOV, RIRO - President-General Fu Wen made his first visit to the People's Republic of Riro, arriving at the Riroese capital city of Chunov where he was welcomed by top Riroese officials, among them Riroese president Ling Mon, foreign affairs minister Chu Jinling and finance minister Txo Chialin.

Accompanying the President-General were Foreign Minister Shen Wuhong, Minister of Economic Development Chin Jangtzo, Namorese envoy to Riro Kuo Jungguk and CEO of Namorese National Petroleum Corporation (Nagusigo) Hang Ning.

In Chunov, the proposal of a Namor-Riro oil pipeline was discussed extensively by Fu and Ling. After hours of talks, the two leaders appeared in a press junket saying they reached an agreement to build the pipeline, which they called "Nari (a combination of Namor and Riro)."

The Nari pipeline will begin in Chunov. From there, it will cross the border into Namor, where it passes through the districts of Xhipei and Xhinan, ending in the port city of Hoy Phong. Some officials believe this will be just the "first phase" of a broader pipeline network, though they add an extension to Nari "will not be discussed at length" until the current pipeline is complete.

Fu called the pipeline "a key to prosperity," while Ling said it is a symbolism for "the evergreen friendship between the people of Namor and Riro."

But Fu shrugged aside speculations that his administration hopes to build the pipeline to mitigate the widely-anticipated international economic upheaval.

"I've been stressing the need for energy independence since the first day I took office," he said. "After years of witnessing radical extremists taking over oil fields in Nautasia and in the meantime realizing that completely ending our dependence on petroleum is too utopian an idea, I think we can all agree that the sooner Namor stops running on oil from unstable places, the better.

"This is something we have an obligation to do, regardless of whether there's a recession coming or not. Because this is not just about oil prices or interest rates, but the sustainability and well-being of the Namorese people."

Fu added he hopes the legislatures in Namor and Riro - the Central Council and People's Assembly respectively - ratify the agreement, taking shots at potential critics of the agreement in Namo.

"I am concerned about the future. That's why I understand all the concerns people have about whether this construction project will ruin the environment, deprive us of our life necessities and so forth. I can assure you that this project will not only create jobs but cause as little damage to our trees and aquifers as possible. That said, we should stand foursquare behind this pipeline and get the job done."

Vocal opposition to the pipeline exists in Namo. Fu's New Democrats have been unanimously supportive of a Namor-Riro pipeline even before speculations of a recession arose, but the centrist and leftist parties are divided; while the Liberationists are mostly supportive of the pipeline construction project, a "green energy" faction within the Democratic Socialists says the government should spend its time on more sustainable projects instead of the pipeline. The Socialists are "unequivocally" opposed to the project, citing environmental concerns. They are joined by the People's First Coalition, whose leader and presidential candidate Kuo Zhang criticized Fu Wen for being "too cowardly" to admit Riro into Namor and agreeing to build a pipeline to compensate for his "weak" stance.

Huan An seeks nomination in challenge to Tuyet An
ELECTION '78 COVERAGE
August 30, NMR 2377

Image
Will Huan An (left) steal the nomination from Tuyet An (right)?
HOY PHONG, XHINAN - In seeking the nomination of her party, Tuyet An will not be alone.

Today, Huan An - currently a deputy for the 14th Legislative District - announced his bid for the presidency. The announcement took place in Hoy Phong, Xhinan. It was the same place where Fu Wen grew up, started his chopsticks business and said he would run for President-General, but Huan noticeably held the event in the Hoy Phong port, blocks away from the city square where Fu announced his bid nine years ago.

"I'm sick of seeing the left-wingers trying to screw up our path to prosperity. Moreover, I'm sick of seeing the left-wingers dictating our foreign policy, even when there's a fair-minded President-General in office," Huan said. "Check me out. Other politicians want to be elected or re-elected. I want to stick Namor to the right path.

"We can talk about removing the old socialist guard, but that's not going to be enough. We need actions, not words," Huan said, in an apparent jab at Tuyet An and one of her campaign slogans. "Here's what we're going to do. We're going to institute a fair tax. We're going to make sure the state does not stand in the way of aspiring professionals, that it does not stop the economy from moving forward. We're going to use everything within our abilities to turn our enemies into trustworthy partners, instead of alienating them, appeasing them or destroying them. That's what we've got to do."

Since his failed efforts to get the Fair Taxation Act - legislation that sought to replace the progressive tax with a 25 percent flat tax - Huan has been speculated to be a candidate in the NMR 2378 election. Leftists and center-leaning New Democrats berated him after he tried ending Shohai Antelope's filibuster by saying "I move that this socialist's time ends and that he be towed out of the floor," but at the same time Huan was celebrated by the solid right, who saw his response to the left as a courageous act of defiance.

Huan and Tuyet both agree on most economic issues, such as the flat tax and the role of government in the economy. But Tuyet is socially liberal, whilst Huan is a self-described "dancer between conservatism and liberalism" on social issues. He refused to call same-sex marriage "a universal right," calling it "more of a Nordanian thing than a Namorese or Monic thing," but supported LGBT rights in other countries "with different social conditions" nonetheless. On Nantai, Tuyet has called for a solution that "satisfies both the wishes of the mainland and local Nantainese," whereas Huan, albeit a supporter of engagement with Bethlehem, thinks such engagement should be used to make reunification a sooner reality.

Yet what gets many New Democrats on their nerves is what they see as Huan's intention to undo the legacy of the "old socialist guard," both in name and practice. In NMR 2367, Huan submitted a controversial bill calling for Yunglang Antelope's portrait to be removed from the Central Council Hall, Executive House and other governmental buildings and the setup of a "truth commission" to investigate "Liberationist crimes" during the Green Fever and other political movements. He was condemned by the New Democratic leadership, then led by Deng Mianbao, who said Huan had gone "too far." Huan shot back: "I thought this was the New Democratic party, not just a liberal faction of the Libs or DemSocs."

However well Huan will do in trying to seek his party's nomination will be seen as the New Democrats hold their convention in February 9.

Kung Alicia to announce retirement from politics
Image
Kung Alicia

KENYEN, NANTAI - With the two term limit approaching its end, famed Chief Executive Kung Alicia of the constituent republic of Nantai has announced her retirement from politics after January 15, 2016, when her successor will take office as the next Chief Executive, citing being "too old to remain politics."

"I have represented Nantai for a long time. Kenyen is my home, my city," she said. "I grew up in Kenyen, and I have represented my constituency from 1980 to 2004. I represented Kenyen-Southwest during the most devastating war that this city has ever experienced. I eventually became Vice-President, but then I discovered that the best way for me to enjoy life was to go to Nantai and represent my people in Kenyen."

She said that "Never have I betrayed my country. I spoke my own mind freely, I may have said some things that were not exactly wise, but as Chief Executive, I believe I have done a wonderful job. However, it is now time for me to end my political career, for I am getting too old to remain in politics: any politics, to be honest. I left federal politics because the stresses were taking their toll on me, but now, I feel I have achieved the best I could do."

She stated, "For the next leader of the PAP, I shall endorse my trusted colleague, my secretary of the Nantainese Department of Finance, Tam River. I have full confidence that she will do a wonderful job in leading Nantai to prosperity."

More as the story develops.

It's Move-In Day!
1.2 Million Unolian Students Return to College

Nationwide-- With the first day of classes looming in a week or two, the new de facto holiday for Unolian students is Move-In Day.

As the name implies, Move-In Day is the unofficial beginning of the collegiate school year, as students take their belongings and move into their dorms or university apartments to prepare for the impending school year.

The tradition was first reported in Unolia City University in 2004, when "record amounts" of alcohol and then-contraband substances were purchased through various legal and illegal means, corresponding with partying and vandalism in the five block radius of the dorms of the prestigious university. Now, the event is recognized in sixty-five of Unolia's seventy accredited colleges, community colleges, and universities. However, the event is not without its controversy.

Notable over the last decade is conflict between the Jahistic Party of Unolia City University and the Yian Fraternity. The JPUCU is a recognized branch of the Jahistic Youth Corps and the Yian Frat dates back to the founding of the University (then called King's National Academy) in 1908. Pranks evolved into vandalism during the nighttime after both sides mutually decide which dorm building they choose to stay in.

Party officials have hosted an exhibition baseball game between JYC affiliated students and Yian Fraternities to help defuse tension between the two sides. This game, called the "University Cup", has garnered significant media attention and even national coverage on the Firebrand Sports Network.

However, this game has often resulted in violence. In all three editions of the supposedly friendly exhibition, there have been at least one ejection on each side per game. The most infamous was in 2013, when the opening pitch from the JYC purposefully caught the leadoff hitter in the unprotected area of his jaw, shattering it in three places and causing a rather violent fight resulting in three arrests and five banishments from the sport of baseball. In 2014, the Yians got their revenge, throwing a 98 mile-per-hour fastball at the JYC's leadoff's gut, forcing him out of the game. The dangerous tradition is expected to continue tonight.

If pseudo gang wars aren't your thing, most frats and JYC sections are expected to throw parties to celebrate the rite-of-passage. This is, of course, for after your parents leave you on your own and exploring your new life as a student. Of course, you should be above the legal drinking and smoking ages. If you expect to leave the area at this time to perhaps explore a new city, don't expect it. Until 7 am the next day, the Jahistic Liberation Force Military Police will have all designated dorm areas nationwide cordoned off from the general public for both your's and their's safeties.

<Koyro> (Democratic Koyro) NSG senate is a glaring example of why no one in NSG should ever have a position of authority
The Emerald Dawn wrote:"Considering Officer Krupke was patently idiotic to charge these young men in the first place, we're dropping the charges in the interest of not wasting any more of the Judiciary's time with farcical charges brought by officers who require more training on basic legal principles."

Righteous defenders of the Reich deployed against Social-imperialism!

Reutern - Soldiers and sailors of the honorable Wehrmacht have been deployed in a forward strike position against known locations of the enemies of the Reich.

From their hideout in Vlud, on the treacherous island of Vyvland, the Vjaar-Judeo cabal of social-imperialism gather for their ritualistic meets on their zionist conspiracies to rid the world of the proud Aryan man. In response to their diabolic plans for world domination, the proud men and women of the righteous Wehrmacht have been forward deployed to the various hideouts of the cabal across the world. The 3rd Hochseeflotte patrol the waters near Vyvland, where the insidious bastards of NOSDO-Zion lie in hiding, conspiring against Germania. Our Wehrmacht stands ready against any threat of the Fatherland.

In Aucuria, the forward outpost of Zion-Social imperialism, 1st Hochseeflotte stands firm and steady against the Judeo imperialists of Kalnaspils. Brave aircraft pilots and sailors of the Wehrmacht patrol the skies and seas near Aucuria, while the brave soldiers of the Heer stand ready to counter-attack the Judeo-imperialists at a moments notice.

The Social-imperialists and Vjaar-Judeo cabal of Zion will tremble at the might of the brave fighting spirit of the Wehrmacht. Germania will rise above their infidelity and bring a new age of peace and prosperity to the world.

Long live 1,000 glorious years to the National Socialist movement.

Gyneld Welelmsen elected as Conservative leader
Image

After a month-long election, Gyneld Welelmsen has been declared the first female leader of Vyvland's Conservative Party (KDC), winning a tight final-round contest against Jorj Vysel-Sdaander 52%-48%. This means she will be sworn into office as Prime Minister - pending her acceptance by Parliament - on Wednesday. She will take over from Kurt Blymont, who resigned in July following injuries sustained in the Nevanlinna Cathedral bombing.

The results were announced today (Monday) at Payl-Klosders-Aas, the party's headquarters in Lorence. In a speech after her win was announced, Welelmsen stated that "it's an honour for you to have put your faith in me, and I hope to repay you all in our fight for a better Vyvland". While runner-up Vysel-Sdaander praised Welelmsen for her "passion and drive throughout the campaign", third-placed candidate Ivo Refmeker stated that her election was "partly motivated by fear of the coalition splitting had the party elected me or Jorj".

The contest saw traditionalist conservative Refmeker eliminated in the first round of counting under the Alternative Vote system. Most of his second-preference votes went to Vysel-Sdaander, but this was not enough for him to wipe out Welelmsen's strong lead. With over 65,000 ballots cast in the month leading up to Sunday, Welelmsen was declared the winner on Monday night with 31,922 votes after Refmeker's elimination.

Welelmsen had always seemed to be ahead in the contest, partly due to her respect among party ranks for ruthlessness in pursuing new tighter union laws as Minister of Welfare and Labour under Blymont's premiership. The youngest of the three candidates at just 35 years of age, her inexperience seems not to have dented her popularity. Upon taking office, she will become Vyvland's youngest-ever Prime Minister.

Liberal Party leader Vren Dens implied that her party would support Welelmsen becoming Prime Minister after a vote to be held on Wednesday, though there is an outside chance that backbench Liberal rebels could vote against Welelmsen's entering office and thus cause deadlock in Parliament and further votes; it is highly unlikely another candidate would emerge in any such vote.

Liberal Springtime for Steinhouse?

Image
G-15's Zeller

As the hottest municipal election heads toward the final stretch, billionaire software magnate Gerard Zeller's novice G-15 coalition of social liberals is in a virtual dead heat with incumbent Conservative mayor Maurice Oppenheim in the nation's second city. A newly relased Fox News Eretz/Steinhouse Herald poll show the two in a virtual dead heat for the municipalitie's top job, with Oppenheim ahead of Zeller by 33% to 32%. The Libertarians, late to the game, are scoring only 6% for their candidate, Councilwoman Gilda Naomiel. Fully 29% of those polled are undecided at this time. Zeller continues to speak to the issues that brought together the G-15's initial foray into elective politics. Over the weekend he continued to hammer the Oppenheim administration for what he considers to be lax standards and a mounting backlog in Steinhouse water and sewer maintenance.

"Just take a look at the condition the Verdun Street storage facility. Just go out there and have a good look! See all that rust, the corrosion. I tell you, it's barely standing. You don't need an engineer to write a 50 page report on it. This is a danger to the safety of the entire near east side! And sewer inspection in most of the south side has completely slid off the radar since 2013. It's obscene. When I take over City Hall, this is going to change!", he told a cheering crowd on Saturday. He further blasted the city's educational performance, citing it's aggregate rating behind Wrycova, Port Yehoshua, Fort Joseph, Ironton, Holon, and Charleroi among big city testing results for high school seniors in math and science. "I can tell you, even though I've got my headquarters and imaging software division labs here in Steinhouse, the failure of Mayor Oppenheim's school board is hurting this city's tech industry. We cannot depend on local graduates to keep up with the pace needed for software development and maintenance. Do you want to see all of our best and brightest head off to Arlen, or stay here and build Steinhouse?", he exhorted. Zeller also continued to criticize Mayor Oppenheim's closing of two well baby clinics last year, and pounded away again on what he termed lax maintenance for the city's "L", as the rapid transit system is known. Meahwile, Mayor Oppenheim continues his low key campaign. In the last month President Feld's administration has sent both Steiny's in the cabinet, Vice President Davidoff and Senate President Douai to pump up the volume for the mayor. Oppenheim got an unexpected boost this weekend when the Steinhouse Grocery Clerks and Produce Handlers Council unexpectedly endorsed the entire Conservative ticket. The sudden move came after the union was upset by the popular Namorese parody, "WhyKova Sentinal" showed a crude ad by Conservative Ward 19 Council Candidate Chayyim Dudel claiming that the liberal G-15 party is against oranges, and that election of Zeller would turn the city into a socialist hellhole. When contacted about the confusion, Dudel just smiled and offered a reporter an orange. Apparently this caused enough concern among union members for them to go over entirely to the Conservative ticket. Zeller's chances have been thrown further in doubt by the late entry of the Libertarian candidate, Councilwoman Gilda Naomiel. Given her late entry there is almost no chance for her to actually capture the mayor's chair. Most at city hall believe that she entered the race at the urging of former president Louis B. Steinberg, in order to derail G-15 before to forestall it becoming a national party, which most believe could damage the Libertarians in next years Senate races.

G-15 Moves Up in Race for Council President
Conservative Council President Kezia Thayer has been lagging behind her G-15 challenger, Councilwoman Anna Sitz. It the latest poll, Thayer is favored by only 24%, compared to Sitz's 39%. Libertarian Rina Pasternak lags behind at 18%, with 29% undecided. City Hall observers believe that the tight race for mayor has sucked up almost all of the Conservative Party's funds in this city, leaving Thayer vulnerable. Sitz has shown strength in Gershomville and in Ravenswood, indicating that the G-15 may be getting traction with lower income voters. Many in the city relate to her easygoing style on the campaign trail. They are also drawn to her story of moving up from humble beginnings to run a pharmacy in her neighborhood, before being asked by local businessmen and concerned parents to run for City Council. G-15 campaign literature often contrasts her competent and thorough research of issues to Thayer's more abrasive style. Given the weakness at the top of the ticket, Pasternak's poor performance is not surprising.

Prosecutors Race: Biggs Looking Big
Image
"Maximum" Maciej Biggs

Conservative fortunes are buoyed by the popularity of tough on crime City Prosecutor "Maximum" Maciej Biggs. Last year's 97% conviction rate following the raids on East 127th Street's "Heroin Alley" caught the public eye in a big way, and his successful prosecution of the Edwards Street Riot trial, busting the activities of the anti-Namorese N-Street organization has led some in the criminal judiciary to consider Biggs as the dean of big city prosecutors. He has a commanding lead of 59% in the most recent poll, with Libertarian Ruben Tash trailing at 17%, and G-15's Kalia Traver on the bottom at 13%. Only 11% remain undecided. Biggs has also been close to Attorney General Arnstein, and some in criminal law circles here have hinted at a possible nomination to the Supreme Court for Criminal Justice at some point for the Prosecutor. Arnstein's office has confirmed that Biggs has recently been consulted about the investigation of the subway bombing in Christiana, Michilles. In a recent attempt to gain notice, Traver has offered day long commentary on prosecutorial performance at the Downtown Criminal Courts building. The commentary has been largely unnoticed, outside of the local criminal bar.

Surprise In Treasurer's Race
Surprising all pundits in Steinhouse, Libertarian Bernie Yalon has surged ahead to take a strong lead in the open race for City Treasurer. He leads with 42%, to 16% for Conservative Fivel Schwartz, and 15% for G-15's Thomas Lawrence. 29% are undededed. Yalon has had a long standing reputation as a budget hawk on City Council, but until the formation of G-15 was never considered seriously for a citywide executive office. As Yalon's support grew last month, most Libertarian money shifted into his campaign. Schwartz, whose campaign rallies have been sparsely attended, addressed early morning cross country skiers in Deschannel Park downtown today.

The only pocket of support that is apparent for Lawrence is in in the Gershomville neighborhood, mostly among Steinhouse Municipal University students.

Aucuria requests Esquarian Union intervention in face of continued Ziegenian agression
Ziegenian navy fleet continues to fire missiles into Aucurian waters; Jankauskaite confirms that Treaty of Bethlehem might be invoked should conflict break out

Image

KALNASPILS, AUCURIA | August 31, 2015- President Patricija Jankauskaite has requested "immediate Esquarian Union involvement" after continuing harassment by Ziegenian naval vessels firing missiles into Aucurian territorial waters, saying that a show of force was necessary to try and discourage further attempts by Ziegenhain to threaten the Aucurian nation. Describing Ziegenian allegations of Aucurian involvement in the death of deceased dictator Friedrich Ulrich as "conspiracy theories", Jankauskaite told a press junket that the Esquarian Union "must present a united facade against the aggressors... in order to guarantee the safety and security of the Esquarian Union and its members."

Jankauskaite also confirmed that, if Ziegenhain took "serious aggressive action", her government would consider invoking the sections of the Treaty of Bethlehem- which founded the Esquarian Union- mandating that other members of the group respond if a member was attacked. "We have no desire to provoke a war, but Ziegenhain seems utterly set on it. If the Ziegenian regime wants to continue escalating this situation, then we will invoke the collective defense articles of the Treaty of Bethlehem... we do not take threats against the people and well-being of Aucuria lightly."

Image
President Jankauskaite has described Ziegenhain's accusations as "delusions and conspiracy theories".

The Ziegenian government blames Aucuria- alongside Francilie, Michillies, Namor, Luziyca, Britanno, Vyvland, Vjaarland, Geadland, and Qianrong, as well as leftists and Jews- for the death of former Ziegenian autocrat Friedrich Ulrich. Recent speeches issued by Ziegenian leaders have called for a "new ideological and cultural struggle against the west’s infections", promising that the Ziegenian military was "ready to counter-attack the Judeo-imperialists [Aucuria] at a moment's notice". Ziegenian navies have been sent out to harass and threaten near the waters of Vyvland and Aucuria. The ships sent near Aucurian waters are also firing missiles into Aucurian waters, rendering much of Aucuria's southern territorial waters unsafe for civilian sailors.

While Ziegenhain has issued threats to Aucuria in the past, including sending its navies north, these most recent actions have gone a step father than past incidents. Ziegenian navies have not gotten this close to Aucuria during past, nor have they fired missiles so deep into Aucurian waters. Izaijas Simonavičius, leader of the Aucurian Jewish Council, described the move as "incredibly disconcerting". "With a belligerent, genocidal nation like Ziegenhain, anything out of the ordinary is dangerous," he said in an interview on Independent Aucuria TV. "This is a serious situation and serious action needs to be taken to prevent what would be an outright catastrophe for Aucuria and for the world."

Image
Jankauskaite has asked Luziyca's Breuvi Shjoraski- who recently listed Aucuria's capital as "potato"- for assistance.

While Jankauskaite said she was "confident" that Luziyca would answer an Aucurian call for assistance, many are more skeptical. Earlier this month, in an interview with a satirical news site, Luziycan president Breuvi Shjoraski listed the capital of Aucuria as "Kartupelis"- the Aucurian word for "potato"- instead of "Kalnaspils", with many saying the error exemplified Luziycan apathy towards its allies. But many have brought up other, more serious concerns about whether or not Luziyca can be trusted, citing Luziyca's failure to prevent the fall of the Luziycan-supported Brozhav government in Ocidenia to rioters and separatists. Opposition Leader Karolis Staugaitis also cited the unstable Monic nation of Qianrong as an example. "Luziyca reaffirmed its defense treaties with Qianrong, and yet they broke them in less than a week... Qianrong is much larger than us and they were facing a small band terrorists; we're fifty-three million people smaller than Qianrong and we're standing against a Triumvirate power. Given that Luziyca broke a treaty under those circumstances, what is to stop them from doing it again?"

Operation Magpie to commence
Image
LZS Varanken, aircraft carrier

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - Today, in light of Aucurian President Jankauskaite's request for aid from the Esquarian Union against a potential Ziegenhainian invasion in light of the death of the late Fredrich Ulrich, former leader of the country, President Breuvi Shjoraski has passed an executive order authorizing Operation Magpie to warn Ziegenhain to back off.

The plan for Operation Magpie is to deploy aircraft carriers LZS Varanken and LZS Azubah to the edge of Ziegenhain's territorial waters, along with several bomber and fighter planes to fly close to the shore of Ziegenhain so to inform the government to back down from their threats against Aucuria, lest there be harsher consequences. These two will be part of two carrier strike groups that will partake in the operation.

Shjoraski explained that "Aucuria, unlike Qianrong, is very strategic. It is near one of the most horrific authoritarian regimes within the world, and thus, it is in our best interests to protect Aucuria from an impending invasion. The intent with Operation Magpie is to put pressure on the government of Ziegenhain to warn that any further action against Aucuria shall not be tolerated and any efforts shall result in harsh consequences for Ziegenhain's government."

The Esquarian Congress in the EU has expressed "full support for Operation Magpie," and passed a joint resolution with the Esquarian Commission condemning Ziegenhain for its genocide and for its threats towards a fellow EU member. It has also passed a resolution that will see the groundwork for the foundation of peacekeeping forces.

FBN - NEWS ALERT

September 1st, 2015

Sinro City, New Zepuha - In regards to recent hostilities towards Ziegenhain, Chancellor Knitler has released an emergency press statement. It covers the New Zepuha-Ziegenhain Mutual Defense Pact signed in the summer of 2014. Below you can find the statement released by the office of Chancellor Knitler.

It has come to the attention of myself and the parliament of New Zepuha, that our Ziegish neighbors are being threatened by foreign forces. While we will not support any attack against Aucuria, if Ziegenhain is indeed struck by foreign forces we will be obligated to enter the conflict.I do not wish to involve New Zepuha in any further military actions on foreign soil, but we have a treaty to honor if Ziegenhain should be struck without provocation. So I warn Luziyca specifically, to cease posturing and do not escalate tensions further than they already are. We wish to see war no more than you do, but posturing will do no good.

As a precaution, I have ordered the 51st Fighter-Interceptor wing to remain on ready-alert until hostilities cease between all party nations.
