Carolina now recognizes Oteki
Image
Austin, Carolina. Today, Carolina has officially recognized Oteki. The bill that is responsible for the recognition was proposed in the House of Burgesses by Burgess Farris Renolds (NFP-Jacksonville). After much debate, it passed 381 to 100, with 2 abstaining. It then went to the Senate where it passed 30 to 15, with 7 abstaining. President Vjarnarov then signed it at 4:57 PM. The recognition of Oteki was expected to face much more opposition, but as it turns out, it was just a very vocal minority. But the question remains, will other nations recognize Oteki. ALERT Explosion in Border Crossing East of Simihara; Police Links Attack to Anti-Shudri Racism
Image
Smoke rises from the staggering scene

Tragic rocked Sinhako and the Ocelot Isles today as a violent attack occurred in a border crossing. The point (referred to Point A), located east of the proposed city of Simihara, suffered an explosion caused by a hand grenade at around 1:18 PM. After the armed police investigated the incident, it led to the arrest of an anti-Shudri racist almost three hours later.

One of the security guards that was present at the time of the attack was interviewed by the Ocelotian Gazette, and his request to have his identity covered is granted. "The man [the perpetrator] was in typical urban dressing; his head was covered by a dark hood and he had the stereotypical jeans. [...] He stood at a distance from Point A, and remained idle for several minutes on. When a guard took note of the man, he approached him and requested basic information, and that was when the man began his assault [...] by producing a pistol and shooting the guard dead. He shouted 'Nie tea Shiaenko!' [No to Sinhako!] before he lobbed a concussion grenade towards the port of entry."

"[A]ll hell broke loose," answered a civilian that was also present. "The explosion blasted away the port that the malevolent man targeted, and whoever was inside is dead without a doubt. The blast [...] destroyed neighboring ports, massacred those caught in it, and simply raised a place of chaos. I basically threw my plans into entering Sinhako and sought for shelter immediately." Several minutes after this disaster, the armed police arrived and put the place in lockdown. Sinhakese borders were kept on high alert and increased readiness, as the armed police gathered evidence and paramedics treated those that were injured.

Police Commissioner Vienna Caridins ordered an all-out search around the Sinhakese border to try and find the perpetrator. It took around three hours for the armed police to arrest the suspect, a 40-year-old anti-Shudri man named Quentin Alessandro. With the white supremacist under control, the police will interview Alessandro regarding his malicious intent, although it is clear that he is anti-Shudri and anti-Sinhako. "This is a despicable case in which misfits attempt to uphold a race above all others," interim Governor-President James Adelaide said in a conference.

At this stage, Sinhako has a population of around 100,000.

Tragedy strikes Sinhako
Image
Border crossing destroyed

SIMIHARA, SINHAKO - At 1:18 pm, local time, the border crossing east of Simihara (currently having 1,325 people) was blown up by Quentin Alessandro, a white supremacist and anti-Shudri racist. The border crossing was known as "Point A" to the Ocelotian authorities, pending an official name for the crossing.

Two border guards are confirmed dead, and some ports were seriously damaged by the explosion caused the Alessandro's bombing of the border crossing. One has been confirmed to be in serious condition, and a few civilians were injured in the explosion.

Helga Duta, the interim administrator said that "this tragedy is unfortunate: the border guards have died to protect our nation, and we know they have not died in vain. May Quentin Alessandro be brought to justice, and I sincerely hope that such racism which permeates Lombardia does not take hold here in Sinhako."

More as the story develops.

A parliament in Mingwok?
Chancellors and his Great Highness discuss plans

The Sacred Council of Chancellors and His Great Highness, Haokwan has said in his recent visit at the Ganwu Freeport that he has been thinking of changing the mandate into a co-operative Rescapitan Parliament, just as in Perlaraja, seeing the old Chancellorate Council of Summer having "very unrighteous sentiments and views necessary for the survival of the Lion Kingdom".

According to various sources, the Chancellorate Council of Spring and his Great Highness has discussed plans for the formal restucture of the Seasonal Councils, instead having the Noble Statesmen, appointed by his Great Highness instead of the Bai Wamha, putting the Autumn Clergy put over religious and doctrinal matters instead. His Great Highness has also coordinated with foreign government analysts in Freezone Territories in order for the New Bureaucracy to work smoothly, stating thay his Sacred Mandate be wasted for nothing.

The new Bureaucracy would consist of the Eight Statesmen Council, to replace the larger Summer and Winter Chancellors, who shall coordinate with his Great Highness. The Autumn and Spring Chancellors shall be merged into the Great Institution of the State, who will handle civil and religious matters. They shall all answer to his Great Highness and is required to be consulted to any laws within the rulings of the Royal Government, Bureaucratic or otherwise. The Highest sect of the Autumn Clergy shall deal against non Dankyau and Mizu heresies and apostasies within their jurisdiction with full autonomy, while the Bashi and Min noble courts handle Freezone matters. ••

THE PICKLE - Почаи Симмун
DEVELOPED STORY Recently-formed micronation recognizes Txotai independence
The "Republic of Saskatoon," a recently-formed micronation formed in the middle of the Great Esquarian Ocean, has informed the world that it recognizes "Oteki (Txotai)" as an independent nation.
Image
The Republic of Saskatoon's parliament
THE OCEAN - The President of Saskatoon, Darren Sklezycyck, appeared at a formal ceremony with the rest of the Saskatoonian government (the Sklezycyck family) and pet dog, outside the parliament of the Republic of Saskatoon, which happens to be the only house in the island micronation. A few reporters showed up to cover Sklezycyck's announcement that the micronation will recognize Txotai as an independent country.

"I sympathize with the people of Oteki," said Sklezycyck, referring to Otekian people. "Their plight is being ignored by the world. Just like how many people in this planet cannot find us on the map or won't recognize us as a sovereign state. The Otekians deserve to be recognized as independent as much as we deserve to be considered an independent people, not silly vagabonds tired of paying taxes."

"Because of this, in the powers vested in me as President of Saskatoon, I hereby declare that from here on in, the Republic of Saskatoon will recognize Oteki as a state independent from Namor, and will treat Namor and Oteki as two, separate countries. We invite the Otekian government-in-exile (OGIE) to open a consulate or an embassy here in Saskatoon, and if the Otekians willing, we will do the same. May the Saskatoonians and Otekians enjoy good relations for years to come." After that, he signed a communique formally recognizing Txotai's independence. His wife, Jamie Sklezycyck, and two children, Odin (age 13) and Peter (age 5), applauded enthusiastically.

The Sklezycycks were from Ainin, forced to flee to the uninhabited island of Saskatoon after being found evading taxes. On the island of Saskatoon, Darren Sklezycyck founded the micronation with himself as the unchallenged head of state. His wife is simultaneously First Lady and Vice President. His oldest son, Odin, was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, while Peter was named Minister of War. The four - plus a janitor who was hired to clean the parliament building - make up the total population of Saskatoon.

To date, no country recognizes Saskatoon.

BREAKING NEWS: His Royal Majesty the King diagnosed with stomach cancer
Image

NEVANLINNA - "His Royal Majesty King Juhani III has been diagnosed with a stage four stomach cancer", announced the King's Messenger in a simple speech held late on Wednesday evening. "The cancer is in its late stages, and doctors have agreed that surgery would thus not help his Royal Majesty. His Royal Majesty is feeling well at the moment and has asked me to tell his loyal subjects not to be afraid or sad. Let us all pray for his Royal Majesty's health and wellbeing".

The King was rushed to Royal Saint Catherine Hospital late on Sunday evening, reportedly for medical checks. According to sources inside the hospital, the King was suffering from cramps and severe stomach pain. The King had not shown any other symptoms of illness prior to being taken to the hospital.

Stomach cancer generally has a very poor prognosis, and only 10% of those diagnosed with it live for more than five years after diagnosis. People suffering from stage four stomach cancer can usually expect to live around three to twelve months.

After the statement was released, tens of thousands of people have expressed sympathy for his Royal Majesty. Prime Minister Hyvärinen told that "he is deeply saddened by the news and hopes that His Royal Majesty may leave the hospital as soon as possible". Social media also erupted after the news, and n less than an hour #PrayForHRM became the most used hashtag on Twitter.

Urgent News - Second Domestic Terror War
ALLIANCE FOR SOVEREIGNTY IN QIANRONG EXECUTES MICHAEL ROTH & PARK LI THROUGH LIVE BURIAL, LIU ZHEN-SHI THROUGH BURNING ALIVE
NGO HUU TRA SWEARS DESTRUCTION OF SISQ, GENOCIDE OF "FALSE QIANRONGESE", ULTIMATE VICTORY IN CAMPAIGN OF TERROR

Image
ASQ leader Ngu Huu Tra appeared in the video, well-dressed and on an intricate set.

FEBRUARY 25, 2015- Danh Dap, Qianrong- The Alliance for Sovereignty in Qianrong has executed the other three of the hostages it took on February 17, only three days after the murder of the first three of six hostages. The newest ASQ video depicted Zepuhan warrant officer Michael Roth, Zepuhan-Qianrongese reporter Park Li, and Radio Free Qianrong reporter Liu Zhen-Shi being murdered. The other three hostages taken were Zepuhan Lieutenant Liliane Roess, Qianrongese Corporal Fu Wei-Huang, and National Report correspondent Vuong Van Dung. Unlike Roess, Fu, and Vuong, who were beheaded, Roth and Li were buried alive and Liu was burnt alive.

Image
A still from the extremely graphic video, showing
Radio Free Qianrong reporter Liu Zhen-Shi being
burnt alive.
The ASQ had demanded that the National Self-Defense Forces and Zepuhan Forces Qianrong cease their anti-terror campaign against the ASQ, which began last year. Despite attempts by the NSDF and Zepuhan military to rescue the hostages, all six have now been killed.

The newest video is generally considered to have shown a new and unprecedented level of depravity from the Alliance for Sovereignty in Qianrong. While undoubtedly brutal, beheading is comparatively quick. By contrast, vivisepulture and immolation are slow and incredibly painful forms of death. Many have also said that the video showcases a morbid and sick sense of humor among ASQ leadership; Liu Zhen-Shi was burnt alive, a possible reference to the fact that the torch is the logo of Radio Free Qianrong, which he worked for.

Ngo Huu Tra appeared in the video, as he almost always does when the ASQ releases a video. In the video, he reiterated the ASQ's two main policy goals: the division of Qianrong into Minjian, Tuhao, and Mahusayna, and the genocide of Yinglidao Christians, Otekians, and Shudri within Qianrong. "As we have warned you in the past, resistance is futile," he told viewers. "We will see the joyous cries of the occupation turned into screams of terror... if oceans of blood must be shed to guarantee sovereignty in Qianrong, then we will show no hesitance in doing all action necessary to guarantee the future of the true people of the Qianrongese archipelago."

The brutal murders have shocked hundreds in Qianrong, and have drawn immediate government condemnation, as well as condemnations from multiple major political figures and many major political parties. Even the Front for Change and Liberty, considered by many to be the political wing of the ASQ, denounced the murders. Radio Free Qianrong released a brief statement mourning the death of its reporter, with RFQ editor Csedomir Pantejmonov describing Liu as "a martyr for the truth". "The enemy of evil will always be truth and openess," he told the press, adding that Liu was a hero for risking his life to report the news. Zepuhan Forces Qianrong and Zepuha's Federal News Network have not yet responded.

The deteriorating security situation and the brutal murders have restarted talks of Yinglidaos, Otekians, and Shudri in Qianrong forming militias and self-defense organizations. The Yinglidao Church, Otekian Qianrongese Association, and Qianrongese Shudri Congress have not yet approved or endorsed any such militias or groups, but this has not stopped discussion of the possibility of self-defense militias as the ASQ grows in power and the NSDF comes across as increasingly incompetent. The two main self-defense group proposals appear to be an All Saints Militia for Yinglidao and Otekians, and a group known as the Raksa- literally, defense- for Shudri. The National Self-Defense Forces have urged against any attempt to actually form the All Saints Militia or the Raksa, saying that they and Zepuhan Forces Qianrong will soon have the situation under control. Following the deaths of Roess, Roth, Li, Fu, Liu, and Vuong, however, fewer and fewer people seem to trust the NSDF to handle the situation.

UPDATE: An official statement from Prime Minister Le Gia Dinh has been released, saying that the government coalition will be seeking closer cooperation with New Zepuha and broader power for the National Self-Defense Forces. "We must take constructive action to build up our fighting force," the statement read.

Opposition Leader Qi Chien-Xuan has released a rebuttal, saying that the NSDF forces do not need greater powers or more ties to Zepuhan Forces Qianrong. "What the National Self-Defense Forces need to do is discover the weaknesses of the Alliance for Sovereignty in Qianrong, and take advantage of these weaknesses to guarantee our national security... while the opposition agrees with the sentiment of securing our home expressed by Prime Minister Le, we believe what the NSDF needs is a coherent strategy and the necessary resources." They have reportedly drafted their own bill to give the NSDF more funding and better equipment.

Neither the government nor the opposition has yet stated if they will vote for the other's bill; it is feasible that both could pass or that neither could pass. The Front for Change and Liberty- the only party in the miscellany- has said that they will not support either bill, saying that "these actions run contrary to creating liberty in the Qianrongese archipelago."

More information will be provided as information comes in.

Zepuhan Forces Qianrong Commander Promises Intensified Airstrikes Against ASQ; Parliament to Vote on 'War Powers Act' Feb. 28

Date

Sinro City, New Zepuha - Two subjects are now heaped upon the plate of the Chancellor and Brigadier General Stinkmeiner. King Auschlogen is demanding that action be taken to win the war against the ASQ and to crush insurrection in Kraq. While commander of ZFQ, Brigidier Stinkmeiner is struggling with a very mobile enemy and one that hides amongst the thick brush of the jungle; fighting not since seen by the Imperial Guard. While he has the power of the Imperial Navy and Aeroforce at his disposal, thick jungle canopies make it difficult for his bombers to make effective strikes. Though he promises that airstrikes will intensify in the outlying islands of the archipelago.

Image
Stinkmeiner delivers his statement
Two statements followed the deaths of yet two more Zepuhan citizens at the hands of the dastardly group, the Alliance for Sovereignty in Qianrong. Once again, a group that calls our brave soldiers nothing more than occupation force thugs there to violate the Qianrongese people. Stinkmeiner had this to say, "It is with my deepest regret that I announce to you today, the death of another fine soldier, executed by the cowards that are the ASQ. Chief Warrant Officer Micheal Roth has been buried alive alongside an FNN reporter, a death most unbecoming of a warrior of peace. I intend to carry out the orders of my Chancellor and I will seek the ultimate revenge against the ASQ. We will show no quarter in combat, we will give no special treatment to prisoners of war. This violation against our people and our nation will not stand as long as I draw breath." he concluded his speech to roaring applause. The FNN released today that, "We are saddened to announce the death of a junior foreign correspondent, one whose bright smile will always be missed in our daily reports."

Interestingly enough, polls recently taken by the National Census Bureau have shown that the Zepuhan populace is showing waning support for the war effort in Qianrong due to the gruesome deaths of these citizens. Some are being led to question our pure motives for fighting the ASQ in Qianrong in the first place, citing a ludicrous idea of imperialism. Though the more hardcore supports of the war are now whipping up a frenzy, baying for blood after watching their countrymen be beheaded and buried alive. Even in Kraq support wavered after allegations of chemical weapons attacks. Polls now show 58% of citizens support the war in Kraq and Irvadistan where 51% support the war in Qianrong.

To curb the threat of sedition during a time of supposed war, several members of government have proposed a bill to parliament that would create several new and temporary departments and committees to oversee broad aspects of the war efforts. It would also give more power to the Chancellor to remove subversive elements within the government and the general population. The Bill also empowers the Chancellor to wield greater power over the military, allowing him to make deployments without declaration of war powers. There are several proposed departments and Committees, let's take a brief overview, remember this bill must be renewed by a yearly vote.

Department of Patriotism - This department has a duty to ensure that the patriotic duty of every citizen is fulfilled, and that support for the war effort remain high as possible within reasonable bounds.

Department of the Censorate - This department will ensure that media outlets will not print subversive publications and has the power to temporarily ban publications and block IP address and fine ISPs if needed. It has the power to grant search and seizure warrants.

Bureau of Political Oversight - This branch of the HSA will be headed by officials appointed by the monarch and approved by the Chancellor, it will be tasked with rooting out subversive elements within the government itself. It will be afforded it's own compliment of agents to enforce it's rulings.

Davidoff Addresses Senate on Irvadistan, Kraq Policy
Image

Vice President Paula Davidoff addressed the full Senate today regarding renewal of export licenses for Cedarbrookese firms to the government of Irvadistan. The Vice President was invited by Senate President Stanislaus Douai, and the Libertarian and Conservative Senate leaders. The two Independent List Senators boycotted the address. Concerns have been voiced recently among the far-left Independent List, and isolationist Libertarian Senators about possible mission creep from support of Irvadi government forces into the insurgency in neighboring Kraq, following an uptick in fighting in Kraq, and an Islamic rebel "caliphate" indicating a possible merger of forces that threaten a more widespread conflict on that continent.

Text of Speech
Senate President Douai, Senators, Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press, I appreciate the opportunity to return to this body to discuss the challenges in supporting the forces of stability in Irvadistan against rising Islamic terrorism plaguing that continent. On the one hand, West Cedarbrook, along with many other nations across Esquarium, both friendly and distant, are providing support for the Government of Irvadistan against a nihilistic and aggressive enemy, who has shown no mercy in imposition of their bigoted and perverse way of life on the Irvadi people. In areas plagued by the Caliphate, we have seen:
· looting, crime and mobs storming government buildings;
· the breakdown of government structures and institutions that maintained civil order;
· rampant inflation caused by the lack of a stable currency;
· supporters of religious fanaticism roaming the streets and countryside, murdering at will;
· destruction of an educational system that would let Irvadistan be a constructive member of the world community.

It is in the interest of all Esquarium to assist the Irvadi government in rolling back this ancient terror that threatens to spread. It is acknowledged that the current Irvadi government has a long way to go towards what we would recognize as a democracy. The point is this: no nation in memory that has made the transition from tyranny to a free society has been immune to the difficulties and challenges of taking that path. But it is necessary for there to be a framework of stability in that nation on which to move forward. We believe that although it is far from a free society, the threat posed by the Caliphate to Irvadistan must be met and defeated for progress in that troubled land.

This much is clear: we have a stake in the establishment of a stable Irvadistan. For if Irvadistan -with its resources and its history -is able to move to the path of stability, where diffenences of opinion can be worked out without threat of murder and devastation, however bumpy the road, then the impact in the region and the world could be dramatic. Irvadistan could conceivably become a model -proof that a state can succeed in the battle against extremism taking place in that part of the world today.

Our investment in support of the Irvadi government is small, providing export licenses and arranging financing for several Cedarbrookese firms for small arms exports and aircraft repair to the Irvadi People's Defence Force. This administration has not requested, and does not plan to request direct military involvement in Irvadistan. This has been our policy, and the policy of the preceding administration. Since we have extended these licenses in 2011, two other democracies, Ainin and Masseau have chosen to contribute forces to the defeat of Islamic terrorism represented by The Caliphate. This is and must be driven by the national interests of those involved. We do not see the benefit of direct involvement in Irvadistan. President Feld has spoken time and again, both in public and in cabinet discussions, that this fight will be won or lost by the Irvadi people themselves. Neighboring Kraq, fighting similarly inspired terrorism, has also engaged troops in Irvadistan. This shows the range and seriousness of the danger posed by The Caliphate in that region.

We have an interest in helping the Irvadi people get on the path to a free society. We do not have an Cedarbrookese "template" we want to impose -Irvadis will figure out how to build a free nation in a manner that reflects their unique culture and traditions. But they must be free of the terror that threatens to drag them back into the 12th century in order to begin that building.

Adjacent to, and related to the fighting in Irvadistan, we note the recent flare-up of fighting in Kraq. Here the situation is less clear-cut. Many of the same players on the international scene fighting extremism in Irvadistan are standing with the Hussein regieme in Kraq. There the same Caliphate threatens that nation also. In that state, the National Kraqi Opposition Coalition has presented an alternative to the existing government and to the Caliphate. Evidence has been presented to the DIO and External Affairs that the Coalition is an Ionite puppet organization. This is currently under review, but complicates the evaluation of policy alternatives with regard to Kraq. Recent events in Ragobad, and the behavior of Free Kraqi Army units in that battle are also under review. In total, the situation in Kraq is much murkier than Irvadistan, and there has been no interest expressed to me, either from External Affairs, the Defense Intelligence Organization, or members of this Senate in offering similar licenses to parties involved in the Kraq conflict.

So I come before you, representing President Feld, in urging the extension of these export licenses to the Irvadi military. To this date no Cedarbrookese has lost their life in Irvadistan through this effort, and not one zug has been lost in the transactions for this support. This is a low risk investment, one that both Conservative and Libertarian administrations have viewed as wise. The world has a stake in the success of their war against terror-and that is why so many of the world's free nations are stepping forward to help. West Cedarbrook needs to continue to do so.

Vice President Derrick Lee to attend Azurite's funeral
Executive House says VP is attending funeral on behalf of administration, govt
February 26, NMR 2374

Image
Vice President Derrick Lee
NAMO, CAPITAL DISTRICT - The Executive House confirmed today that Vice President Derrick Lee will attend the funeral of Mattheu Azurite that is expected to take place tomorrow.

In a statement, the Executive House said the "[Lee] will be heading to Pavonistade to attend the funeral of late President of Pavonistade Mattheu Azurite. He is to represent the President-General's administration in his capacity while there. Accompanying him will be Mr. Ning Ru, the Namorese ambassador to the Pavonistadian States.

"The President-General has expressed his condolences to the people and government of Pavonistade over the passing of Mr. Azurite. Mr. Azurite has worked to the best of his capabilities in serving the Pavonistadian people. Not to mention the great strides he made in furthering the peace process with the Ocelot Isles and allowing the Ocelotian people to enjoy self-determination. The Azurite administration also made great efforts in maintaining friendly relations with Namor.

"Pavonistade is one of Namor's largest trading partners. We enjoy this relationship and hope that it will continue in the years to come. In the meantime, we feel that it is appropriate to send a delegation headed by Vice President Lee to join the Pavonistadian people in remembering the late president."

Mattheu Azurite was president of Pavonistade for two years. Before that, he served as a member of the Pavonistadian Parliament and Vice President of Pavonistade. He was responsible for introducing a progressive tax to the country, as well as transferring welfare to the private sector.

On February 19, Azurite suffered a stroke, which forced him to be hospitalized. He remained in serious condition for a few days until he was finally pronounced dead in February 22. According to Pavonistadian law, the Vice President, Yksteldehs Oppenheim, was declared Azurite's successor and became president following his death.

Azurite was 78 years old - making him one of the oldest Esquarian heads of state at the moment. However, there were leaders in history who lived longer- founding leader of the People's Republic of Namor Yunglang Antelope passed away at the age of 79, Katranjian Liberationist leader Huankun Chen died at age 82, and Democratic Luziycan leader Erov Haclav died at age 96. These leaders, with the exception of Haclav who was executed by post-unification Luziycan authorities, died in office.

No doubt Azurite was too old to take office in the first place. Although Yunglang, Huankun and Haclav died old, they started young. Azurite didn't - being president of even a small country like Pavonistade must be really stressful job, Azurite had lots of gut to handle it. 101 44

Unity Rally Held in Ålstad
200,000 people attend pro-unity rally 2 days before vote

Over 200,000 people attended the Unity Rally in Ålstad on Wednesday

ÅLSTAD- Over 200,000 people braved the subzero temperatures of Ålstad to rally against Vesperian succession on Wednesday in the biggest rally yet.

With the vote coming on Friday and opinion polls showing the race neck and neck, the rally was created by several politicians and celebrities in order to bolster support and sway undecided voters to the opposition campaign.

"The point is that unity can be 'sexy' as well." said popular Vesperian pop singer Lina Ahlström, "Many people accused the pro-unity side for being 'boring' or 'lacking heart', we organized this to show the opposite. That we can make noise and that we aren't staying in the shadows with nothing to say."

Polls have also indicated the support for independence is higher in urban areas than in rural areas. Indicating a strategic aspect of the rally, a way to gather support from urban areas who have seen dozens of pro-secession rallies in the recent months.

The rally featured many prominent Arkiasian and Vesperian politicians including Prime Minister Troy Brown, President Philip Bayer, Vice President Daniel Bertelsen, Opposition leader Meghan Turner of the federal Labour Party and Jonna Mikkelsen of the Vesperian Labour Party.

Many celebrities and singers attended the rally including Emma Thorsen and Amanda Komen of popular Vesperian metal band Rise Within, pop singer Lina Ahlström, techno DJ Therhon, actor Stewart Irwin, television hosts Thorsten Niequist and Stephen Stewart and actress Elvina Robertson.

Jonna Mikkelsen spoke to the crowd saying "The power of unity is unmatched, our friendship is special. Together, we has accomplished many amazing things, and without Vesperia none of this would of been possible. Vesperia has always been the catalyst for change. Our dedication to change and progress have made what Arkiasis is what it is today. This is an achievement that is to be proud of and celebrated."

The 'Unity flag pin' was also given out during the rally to all attendees and many other people from all around Arkiasis also wore the unity flag pin to show their support. And on Thursday, Leighton also rose the Vesperian flag above the parliament building as a display of unity.

Smaller pro-unity rallies were also held in numerous Vesperian cities including Diersaad, Nelsonburg, Kasag, Patalk and Närvik which saw between 5000 and 20,000 people. Other rallies were also held in cities all over Arkiasis including, Aspatria, Conneaut, Vremsby, Leighton and Korbarstad.

Millions of people also expressed their support for unity using the hashtags #We<3Vesperia and #StrongerUnited which have together gathered over 3 million tweets on twitter and became the number one most trending subject in Arkiasis.

Support for unity has also come from outside Arkiasis with Prime Minister Efa Nordland of Geadland mentioning:
"I don't want to lecture Vesperians in detail on the subject, but I hope they vote to stay. I'm saying this because Arkiasis is a great friend and ally of Geadland, and not the sort of nation that deserves to be broken up. Their nation is a reliable force for good in world politics today. It also has a national identity that accepts and celebrates regional differences rather than suppressing them, and a respect for the Vesperians' right to self-determination. If the Vesperians opt for unity rather than division, they will send a positive message to the world, that a multinational democracy is not one that is doomed to collapse."

King won't abdicate - "Only death can do me and Nevanmaa apart"
Image

NEVANLINNA - His Royal Majesty King Juhani III has announced that he has no intention of abdicating despite his malignant stomach tumor. In a statement released by the King's Messenger, His Royal Majesty stated that: "Only death can do me and Nevanmaa apart. I intend to serve the Nevan people until my last second and I have no intention of voluntarily giving up my Throne. I will stay with my people until God calls me to his side." It was also announced that the King would leave the hospital and return to the Royal Castle on Sunday.

After the King was diagnosed with Stage 4 stomach cancer earlier this week, some commentators have raised questions whether the King should abdicate. Monarchs in Nevanmaa have traditionally reigned until death, with the sole exception being Kustaa IV who abdicated in 1924 after the Red Rebellion.

After the King's diagnosis was made public, people across Nevanmaa have shown their support for the King. The avenue outside the Royal Castle in Nevanlinna was filled with candles and wreaths, while #PrayForHRM became the most popular Nevan hashtag on Twitter. Several politicians, including Prime Minister Tuomas Hyvärinen, Leader of the Opposition Oskari Paasio, Moderate Left chairwoman Julia Kauhala and National Congress of Nevan Negro People chairman Voitto Heinonen all offerred their condolences and wished health and wellbeing to the King.

People in other parts of Esquarium have also reacted to the news. In Ainin, people left flowers and candles outside the Nevan embassy. In an unfortunate turn of events, the Royal Nevan Diplomatic Guard had to force a crowd of hooligans who were attempting to destroy the memorabilia back. In other countries, reactions have fortunately been less violent.

Polls Open in Vesperia
Polls officially open for independence referendum
ABC News | Posted: 27 February 2015

Image
Voters wait outside a polling station to cast their vote.

ÅLSTAD- Polls have officially opened in Vesperia as million of voters will decide on the whether the Province of Vesperia will become an independent nation or not.

Voter turnout is expected to be high, "I've never seen so many people eager to vote." said one polling station volunteer, "I've been here for many elections, but this is certainly different." As many as 95% of all registered voters can be expected to cast a ballot at some point today.

This is also the first election in Arkiasis to allow individuals who are 16 and 17 years old to vote. Some has criticized the decision but the minimum age of 16 was set out and agreed upon by both Vesperia and the government of Arkiasis. "I'm voting no because I'm proud to be Arkiasian." said one teenager. "I think we should be allowed to make our own decisions." said another teenager.

With the Unity Rally still fresh in many people's minds, many people wore the unity flag pins all around Vesperia and in the rest of Arkiasis. "We really hope that the rally brought people closer together and that we helped sway undecided voters." said one unity rally organizer.

Polls have so far remained peaceful and uneventful, however one man was escorted away from a station in Patalk after calling voters "traitors".

Polls will be open from 8:00 until 21:00. And all other election rules apply. Advertisements for both campaigns are not allowed within 100 metres of all polling stations in order to not to duress voters. And all people who show up before 21:00 will be allowed to vote even if they only make it inside after 21:00.

Results are expected to be released several hours after polls close. However, recounts are expected due to the anticipated close result of the referendum which could delay results up to half a day.

Green MP: Nevan King’s illness “karma”

Image
Green Party MP Grace Duxbury has caused controversy by referring to his recently announced stomach tumour illness as “karma”. The 34 year old, who has gained a reputation as an outspoken (in her own words, “not giving a shit”) backbencher since her election to Parliament last March, was speaking in a radio interview. When a caller questioned her stance on King Juhani III and his illness she also said that “he had it coming”.

“This is a man who backs bigoted and prejudiced racial laws that discriminate against huge numbers of innocent black Nevans. He dissolves government who show even the slightest hint of disagreement to his views, he supports vile sexist and homophobic discriminatory laws that alienate groups who have done nothing wrong, and then has his National Coalition puppets form illegal governments that deserve no international recognition. So on his illness? I’d say he’s had it coming, it’s karma really.”

Green leader Oscar Pope has distanced himself from the comments, saying that while he strongly agreed that Juhani III was “vile”, he did not see the King’s illness as a “positive thing”. Duxbury’s interview has been condemned as “horribly unsuitable” by Christian Democratic leader James Williams, who has in the past spoke of his admiration for the Nevan monarch. Prime Minister Marcus Browning has not commented, although a government statement was released when the news of the illness broke, expressing condolences for the King’s family.

STATE FUNERAL HELD FOR FORMER PRESIDENT AZURITE, HUNDREDS ATTEND
President suffered stroke nearly 3 days ago; order of succession to be enforced

Date: February 27, 2015

Writer: Laura Parisiana

Image
Azurite lay in state as relatives, Members of Parliament,
governmental officials, and dignitaries oversee him.

Former President Mattheu Azurite, who died on February 22 after suffering from a thrombotic stroke, was given a state funeral and a burial.

Azurite was hospitalized on February 19, the day that the stroke occurred. He was in critical condition by the time he arrived in the Pavonistadeckian General Hospital, with many blaming on the lack of accessible Aspirin or antithrombotic drugs. The President was stable and his span managed to pass the defeat of OIRR 2015. His death was announced at 2:01 PM, more than one day after the results of OIRR 2015 were released.

Following the death of Azurite, his body lay in state inside the Pavonistadian Parliament, more specifically an abandoned chamber known as the Far Assembly. Before today many hundreds---if not thousands---were drawn to the Parliament, and in times where the Parliament is unable to keep with the queue, some attendees were unable to enter the Parliament. Azurite's body was removed from the Far Assembly and re-established outside of the Parliament for the public, but before that numerous formal attendees made their speeches about the former President.

Then Azurite was slowly paraded around Pavonistadeck by the Presidential Motorcade, which also carried now-President Yksteldehs Oppenheim and Vice President Teringtor Jehvore. Due to advance requests from the Azurite family, the Motorcade ended its journey at a small cemetery known as the Northwood Cemetery. Mattheu Azurite was buried at the cemetery after a second round of speeches and a missing man formation. The Pavonistadian flag and symbols that topped the coffin was buried alongside. The entire state funeral and burial lasted over seven hours and this is more televised than any other events in Pavonistade.

In the Far Assembly, President Oppenheim labelled Azurite as "a historical president, one that manages to heal relations with even the aggressive unlike any others of the Pavonistadian States." Former Adviser Jehvore, now Vice President, stated that "it was a great and sincere pleasure to have advised the President in his guidance of the country." Member of Parliament Laurent D'Artoise said while he "had numerous disagreements with the President [...] I had immense admiration for the same man that had little fear for what is to come." Some people abstained from a Far Assembly speech and opted for one in the Northwood Cemetery; for example, Member of Parliament Alice Olivers reminded "never before has a modern President been so revered as Mattheu Azurite," and added that she herself is "unimaginably fond" with him. Dignitaries in the funeral include Nikolai Serhoskav, the Vice President of Luziyca; and Derrick Lee, the Vice President of Namor.

Mattheu Azurite is the third President to die in office. The first to die in office was Gordon von Pavstadie, who was trapped in a burning building in 1923, and the second was Ulieses D'Artoise, who was assassinated with a letter bomb.

Sure, whatever you say... the death of Azurite also comes with the death of personally-institutionalized rightism in welfare. Forcing the needy to depend on private companies and fat cats really disgusts me, but at least we have peace with the Ocelot Isles.

We are mourning the loss of a President, and you still lash out at someone who fell? Maybe it's time someone like you turn not only to respect [almost] everyone that dies, but to help in the quest to fight stroke and diabetic-based illnesses!

The Pickle requests that Constitution lawsuit be dismissed
February 27, NMR 2374

Image
The Constipation, an asset of The Pickle, is meant to mock the Luziycan newspaper The Constitution
NAMO, CAPITAL DISTRICT - Satire news company The Pickle requested that the court dismisses the lawsuit filed against them by the Luziycan newspaper The Constitution.

The Constitution sued The Pickle for copyright infringement. It says that "The Constipation," a satirical newspaper owned The Pickle that pokes fun at The Constitution, is an unlawful piece of derivative work. It said that due to the similarities between the layout of both papers, some have mistaken The Constipation for The Constitution, giving the latter paper a bad reputation.

The Constitution is seeking an injunction from the court for The Pickle to stop using the name "The Constipation" and the logo, which is very reminiscent to that of The Constitution. The lawsuit has since proceeded to national court for review.

But The Pickle said The Constitution's lawsuit is "not valid," and is calling on the court to dismiss it. "We're not copying anything. We didn't pull off The Constitution's logo and replaced its articles with our articles. Instead, we got our own logo that looks that that of The Constitution and wrote our own articles. That's not copyright infringement," said editor Yu Ta.

The Constipation is satire, but that does not mean it is derivative work that The Pickle made without The Constitution's permission, said Yu. "There are many newspaper logos that have the same type of script The Constitution has. Tons of them, in fact. It's a traditional typeface for newspapers. The Constitution does not have ownership of Old English Text, nor does it have ownership of the word 'constipation.'

"If people mistaken The Constipation for The Constitution, then that just sucks. There's really nothing we can do about it. The purpose of The Constipation is to mock the hysteria and political correctness you see every day in Luziycan media," Yu said. "We're not at fault. But we didn't illegally rip anything off.

"There's no basis in The Constitution's lawsuit, so we're calling on the court to place it aside instead of wasting their time," he said.

The Constitution sues The Pickle

Image
Logo of The Constipation

NAMO, NAMOR - It has been a long time coming: the Namorese giant Pickle News Network may likely face a lawsuit in the Namorese court system for using the term, "The Constipation," which executives of The Constitution say that it violates and harms the value of their trademark, and thus is seeking an injunction for the Pickle News Network to stop using "The Constipation," and its logo. In contrast, the satire newspaper wishes to see the Namorese courts dismiss the case.

According to PTH, Yu Ta stated that:
"We're not copying anything. We didn't pull off The Constitution's logo and replaced its articles with our articles. Instead, we got our own logo that looks that that of The Constitution and wrote our own articles. That's not copyright infringement.

The Constipation is satire, but that does not mean it is derivative work that The Pickle made without The Constitution's permission. There are many newspaper logos that have the same type of script The Constitution has. Tons of them, in fact. It's a traditional typeface for newspapers. The Constitution does not have ownership of Old English Text, nor does it have ownership of the word 'constipation.'

If people mistaken The Constipation for The Constitution, then that just sucks. There's really nothing we can do about it. The purpose of The Constipation is to mock the hysteria and political correctness you see every day in Luziycan media. We're not at fault. But we didn't illegally rip anything off.

There's no basis in The Constitution's lawsuit, so we're calling on the court to place it aside instead of wasting their time.

In response, the recently-appointed editor of The Constitution, after the retirement of Adam Varanken last week, Agostina Baccari issued a statement to respond to the claims of The Pickle.

Firstly, I am a personal fan of The Pickle News Network, and their stories are quite amusing from time to time. However, I am furious that they deliberately choose a name that is similar to "The Constitution," with the exact same font. While I know that there are a ton of newspapers with this font, it is quite frankly, inexcusable.

"The Constipation" looks essentially identical: the format, the masthead, among all else, it is essentially next to impossible to distinguish each other. If the intent is to deceive readers into receiving the wrong newspaper, then they have done a spectacular job in doing so: they may not have copied the articles verbatim, but the formatting is quite identical. And as for the claim that we don't own constipation: they are right. But with how they place it so prominently on the masthead, how they make it look like "The Constitution," I feel that if we were to display them side by side, they would be unable to tell the difference save for how ridiculous the articles are.

As to address Yu's claims that it is not copyright infringement: if I set up a newspaper like, say, the "National Inquirer" and it looked similar and mocked this very newspaper, I could be sued for copyright infringement. Parody can only go so far: if I rip off a name for a parody newspaper that is so similar, I'd be sued. If the Constipation had a different font or even a different name, we would not have this lawsuit at all.

However, it is highly doubtful that this case will even make it onto trail: it'd likely be dismissed. But if the injunction is put into place, readers of the newspaper of record from the freest nation would no longer need to risk being confused by a parody.

The Constitution wants to claim the words "the," "constipation"
Image
"The Constitution" is seeking to claim ownership over the word "constipation"

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - The Constitution, a parody of The Constipation, submitted a trademark application for the words "the" and "constipation." If the application is approved for publication, then that means The Constitution will have a claim over the two words, and sue The Constipation for copyright infringement.

Recently-appointed editor of The Constitution Agostina Baccari revealed the newspaper's plan in owning the two words so that no one - not even The Constipation which The Constitution was ripped out of - can use the words without The Constitution's permission.

"The Constitution is submitting a trademark application for two words - 'the,' and 'constipation,'" Baccari reportedly told The National Enquirer. "If it's approved, and we're confident it will be approved, nobody will be able to use the two words either without our permission, or say it's theirs. Everyone will come to us before they think about using the two words, and if they don't, well, we'll bloody sue them."

Baccari said the reason why The Constitution is taking these measures is because it does not want rival newspapers to compare "Constitution" with "Constipation." Baccari singled out our newspaper, which is the most popular newspaper in Luziyca, and enjoyed widely in the free world.

"Every time I go to the newsstands, I see someone grabbing a copy of The Constipation, and say to his wife: 'Hey, honey, I got a copy of The Constitution.' And it makes me really mad. But that's not all - some are idiotic enough to buy The Constitution and walk away, satisfied that they 'bought The Constipation.' It's outrageous. A sacred document that lays out the freedoms we enjoy in this country, should not be mistaken for, say, the inability to empty the bowels.

"If The Constitution owns the word 'Constipation,' then people will not make this mistake again, and our reputation will be saved," said Baccari.

Baccari said The Constitution is also seeking to own the word 'the,' because putting that word behind the word "constipation" doesn't make sense.

"You go to the washroom, and you stay there because it's taking too long for you to do your business. That's called constipation. But when you put the word 'the' behind 'constipation,' you're assuming that someone's constipation is more important than the constipation that happens to other people. It's arrogant, and selfish."

Following The Constitution's announcement, many said they are opposed to the paper's attempt at owning the two words. Muto Cancelliere from Lombardia said that "The word 'the' is a determiner in the English language. People use it all the time. See? I just did. I can't imagine The Constitution suing me for using this word over and over again. If you see this as copyright infringement, you must be a Communist." But there are others who support the move, such as Dick Astley from Yerevan who said that "Our constitution is a sacred document, it's not a constipation. The Communists who mistaken the two words should be sued. If they can't, then they should be shot."

"The Constipation is a paper of the Luziycan people," said James Savchenko. "When West Luziyca was ruled by Communists, it was The Constipation that delivered trustworthy news to our oppressed brethren there. The Constipation was responsible for keeping the gates of liberty open, distributing samizdats and showing all people the greatness of the freest nation on earth. I'll say that The Constipation's contributions to the freedom of mankind is parallel to that of Christ Jesus."

Csedomir Pantejmonov, editor of Radio Free Qianrong and a fierce campaigner for Otekian freedom, voiced his opposition to The Constitution and support for The Constipation. "When I was little, I got all my news from The Constipation," he said. "It offered me another perspective - the perspective of the free world. It taught me what freedom was all about. As a person who represents the free media, I am against attempts by anyone, even The Constitution, to infringe upon The Constipation's right to exist. This resembles what they do in Red Namor, or in Qianrong under the FDRQ."

We here at The Constipation will like to remind The Constitution that they are a parody paper of The Constipation, and that The Constitution endorses many ideas belonging to the center-left; ergo, they are communists, much like the state media of western Cortoguay. The Constipation has a right to sue The Constitution, but The Constitution does not have any right to sue The Constipation. Sure, one can say that The Constipation, The Constitution and The Conshitution are the three largest newspapers in Luziyca, but, The Constipation is read widely and taken seriously by Luziycans, unlike The Constitution. If The Constitution successfully owns "the" and "constipation," it is an assault on our freedom, democracy, and liberty given to us by God.

satirical paper An Crass

DUNEDEN, SCOTIA - In response to the recent lawsuit from Luziycan newspaper The Constitution to a satirical paper and associate of its Namorese counterpart The Pickle, the editor of Scotian satirical paper An Crass, has now spoken out against the lawsuit.

During an interview with the centrist TV network SN, editor Brian Menzies told them that "It's inconceivable that one paper could claim two words in a dictionary just because they show up on a newspaper that continually mocks them on a daily basis. Is it because they want to silence some people who just want to poke fun? I hope not, because take it from me, a man who has to deal with the crazy supporters of Arthur Griffin, who I sincerely hope by now he's discredited by his own stupidity. But we at An Crass survived the endless lawsuits, and I hope our colleagues at the Constipation will weather the storm."

The Constipation is currently being sued by the Constitution for copyright infringement, over claims that the Constipation's name and logo has caused confusion among readers and has damaged the Constitution's reputation. Readers of An Crass have compared the recent lawsuit to the various lawsuits between the satirical paper and notorious far-right and pro-SNP newspaper An Crann.

February 5, 2015
Plavagrad, Sakatia - - Minister of Defense Andrei Yalkev announced that the Sakatian Strategic Rocket Forces had successfully conducted a counter-attack scenario on a fictional foreign nation. The tests involved over 35,000 personnel from all branches of the armed forces. The SRF launched 30 missiles Porucnik Kopi (Guardian Spear) Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles into the Great Esquarium Ocean. The drills occurred nationwide including for the first time ever in the Simna Special Administrative Region, where interceptors were deployed and the San Giuseppe di Cieli Special Administrative Region where several mobile radar platforms were deployed.

Yalkev called the drills a success and said the armed forces passed and exceeded our expectations with these drills. Yalkev addressed fears that these drills were aimed at projecting strength. "These drills were ordered by the President because of the need of our nation to show we will defend ourselves against foreign aggression. Foreign excursions and trips into our territory will not be tolerated and these drills presented that". When asked if the drills violated international law, the Yalkev said "they absolutely do not, this is our territory and we do not need another countries permission to conduct operations on our sovereign territory.

The drills were conducted without prior notice and civilians were only informed when they saw rockets streaking through the Friday evening sky. Citizens in Talagorsk in northern Sakatia said "we were frightened, we thought it was a war, however when the military made there announcement that they were just testing them people calmed down".

PRASANTA, SINHAKO - Greetings to all of the people have tuned in and listened to us. It is twelve o'clock in the afternoon, and you are listening to the Sinhako Broadcasting Authority, transmitting live for the first time on Radio One, on 96.3 FM. Welcome to the launch of the voice of a people, who for so long have been persecuted and looked down upon.

As the official broadcasting service of Sinhako, we are excited to witnessing a new age: for a long time, we have been persecuted, prejudiced and looked down upon: we had to wander around the globe, looking for a place where we can be accepted and for us to progress and be a respected people. The possession of a homeland is the first step: a second step is to create an economy and a united Shudri culture. The SBA thus will help make the Shudri a respected people, which is why we have decided to launch this radio network. Over the coming weeks, we plan on launching a television service to broadcast to the people of Sinhako, and a second radio station.

So, what shall Radio One broadcast? We shall promote music in the Shudri-language, we shall broadcast the news in the Shudri language, at noon, and six in the evening, as well as a three-hour morning show. We will promote Shudri culture, Shudri identity, tell our stories and history, and educate the people to not forget why we have arrived here so many years ago. We want our children to look from the peak of Mt. Mukti and appreciate the efforts we have made to create a Shudri nation, and to not take them for granted. We want our children to feel pride in being Sinhakan, not assimilate into the Ocelotian culture. Thus, we hope to Saint Sara that we here at SVP will do our best to help create a united Sinhakan identity, and ensure that this shall serve as a home for all of us!

News from Independent Riro
President announces referendum to join Namor on April 29

CHUNOV - His Excellency Comrade President Ling Mon told the press that the People's Republic of Riro will hold a nationwide referendum on April 29, near the first anniversary of Riro's independence from Katranjiev. The referendum will concern the question on whether or not Riro should join the Namorese People's Republic.

Rumors of a referendum to join Namor have been afloat for months now. In one time, Foreign Minister Sik Wanwu told Namorese media there are plans for the government to hold a referendum. Among the Riroese public, support for holding a referendum on joining Namor and joining Namor is high.

"One year since Riro gained its independence from Katranjiev, the Riroese people will express themselves through popular referendum once again," said President Ling. "Only this time, the Riroese people will choose if they want to join their brothers and sisters in Namor, and become fully integrated within the Namorese nation."

Ling explained how the referendum will go in depth. Voting will be compulsory to ensure that all people's voices are heard. All people that fit the requirements to take part in regular leadership elections will be eligible to vote in this referendum. International monitoring organizations will be invited to oversee the voting process, in making sure there are no flaws that may render the referendum fraudulent.

There will be three choices in the referendum:

  • Join Namor, become part of Xhipei District: If this option is chosen, then Riro will apply to become a prefecture of Namor's Xhipei District.
  • Join Namor, become its own district: If this option is chosen, then Riro will apply to become territory of Namor, but become its own district.
  • Don't Join Namor, retain independence: If this option is chosen, Riro will not apply to join Namor and stay a legally independent country.

President Ling said that he personally supports joining Namor, but is undecided on whether Riro should, upon joining Namor, become a prefecture of Xhipei or its own district. "This is something I'm going to think about until the day the polls open," he told the press. He stressed that regardless of what the outcome of the referendum is, Riro's fraternal bond with the Namorese nation is unbreakable.

Ling pointed out that this referendum did not get the explicit approval of the Namorese government, so there is a small chance that if most people vote to join Namor, there still exists an application process that will need to be approved by Namo, meaning that the unification will not happen immediately.

THE PICKLE - Почаи Симмун
INCLUSIVE INTERVIEW Li Jian-Zheng amazed he played a crucial role in Qianrong's transition to democracy
Image
Li Jian-Zheng posing for a photo in his villa. His car stands next to him
HUATOU PROVINCE, QIANRONG - It was mildly warm, and the sun was very bright. Spring is coming to Qianrong, and looking at the weather, one finds it hard to imagine that there was a winter, and over the winter a lot of stuff happened.

But everything's cool with Qianrongese politician Li Jian-Zheng, who greeted us outside his new villa in Huatou Province, which he easily bought after stepping down from leadership and letting others lead the Second Independent State of Qianrong, which was just formed following successful local and national elections. "Hey, what's up?" Li told me as he shook my hand, then led me in. "Come in, you don't see a villa like this anywhere in Qianrong."

Li and I sat down together, drank several cups of tea and watched television. But I realized that I was here for a reason, so I asked Li if he could settle down and answer some questions on behalf of The Pickle.

His reply: "Ah...an interview, yes? That's fine, that's fine. Ask me anything, I swear there's no secret police hovering around anymore. Most of them were fired and have been employed by the ASQ."

I laughed, and proceeded to my first question. "Mr. Li, former Chancellor Li...however I want to address you..."

"Just call me Li," said Li. "Even if there's a million of them in this country."

"Heavens, you're funny, Li," I remarked, chuckling. "But let me move on...you're no longer a powerful person. How does it feel to realize that just a few days ago, you were the center of attention, the quarterback of the team? How does it feel to realize that you, Li, led a revolution, led a transitional government, and suddenly left it?"

"Ooooh, it feels awesome, I still can't believe it," said Li. "I mean, I still find it hard to imagine that I declared myself Acting Chancellor of Qianrong, in spite of Guo Tse-Zu doing the same and willing to use military force to destroy me. Then there were the protests, the clashes with police, and then the besieging of government buildings which eventually led to Guo's downfall. And guess who did all that?" He pointed at himself enthusiastically. "Me! And here I am, beginning a new life. I must say, I'm astonished."

"If you could describe your brief time as the architect of Qianrong's transition from autocracy to democracy with one analogous activity, what would it be?" I asked.

Li thought about that for a moment. "Er...it's like...having a dream about dating the hottest girl of your knowledge, with that relationship lasting for a few minutes before she slaps you and you're awake." He snapped. "Just like that. And you couldn't believe what you experienced. And I'm like, 'Shit, Li, you led your own country!' I must say, I'm astonished. I'll never forget it."

"So you're amazed?" I asked.

"Hell yeah I'm amazed," Li said. "I changed the politics of a country. Qianrong, an autocracy, transformed into a democracy. And I did it. And now I'm here. I'm amazed. Wow."

I frowned a bit. "You're not going to give credit to anyone else for making the rebellion successful? How about those who are leading the SISQ now?"

"Well, look," Li said, who tried to withdraw his wide smile by keeping a straight face. "I'm not saying I was the only person who made Qianrong free. Surely others did their part and they deserve everyone's gratitude. But what about me! For three months or so, I was leading the Qianrongese people. Never before in my life did I think I would have this opportunity. And every day I sit in my couch in my villa, the Winter Rebellion, Guo's capture and voting in Qianrong's first democratic elections keep playing through my mind like a movie. And I go 'Whoa! I did all that?'"

"Do you have confidence in the SISQ? Do you think they'll do a great job in keeping the country free and democratic?" I asked.

"That's their job, but I'm more concerned about how I was leader of Qianrong for such a short amount of time and led the people to democracy! Like, can you believe that? I'm the father of Qianrongese democracy!"

"Then there's the ASQ. They're really brutal, I heard. Are you worried that if anyone is going to ruin what you created, it's them?" I continued asking.

Then, Li's face a bit repulsive. "These dogs, if they dare destroy the democracy I led the country for three months to create, I will advise the government to use our nuclear arsenal to wipe these pigs off the face of the universe, as well as those who support them - the Namorese and Aininians especially."

"Speaking about Namor, do you think Qianrong's relations with Namor will change now that the former is democratic like the latter?" I asked my last question.

"I don't think Qianrong's relations with Namor will improve until such time that people stop moving into houses. That's ethnic cleansing," he said. "But that's something else. Talk about me a bit. I brought democracy into Qianrong. The Qianrongese people have power in their hands, all because of yours truly."

1ST ANNIVERSARY Ocelot Isles Celebrate One Year Since Pavonistadian Recognition
Image
A huge crowd celebrates in Oxen City

Today is March 1, and people from all over the Ocelot Isles have been patiently waiting for this day. After Spalin's disastrous rise, the subsequent Third Ocelotian-Pavonistadian War, and the defeat of OIRR 2015, much of the Ocelotians managed to withstand disaster and turmoil to see the sun rise today. It is one year since now-deceased President Mattheu Azurite and Governor-President James Adelaide signed the Treaty of Independence, mandating Pavonistade to recognize the Ocelot Isles as independent and sovereign at last.

"It is officially one year since our neighbor [Pavonistade] finally saw as a country, one with full self-jurisdiction and one without foreign governance," Adelaide, now interim Governor-President, declared to an excited crowd in Kongeuvia. "The country is very pleased with the achievements that have been made the year before. Even though some of our friends would not live to see this anniversary, those that fell would remain with our hearts as we celebrate one year as an independent sovereign state."

Despite dilapidation in Ocelotian cities, the proud population gathered to celebrate the remarkable anniversary of the country just like how they celebrated the defeat of OIRR 2015. What is also remarkable is that before this anniversary, the outcomes of OIRR 2015 drew Francilie, Luziyca, and Scotia to recognize the Ocelot Isles as its own country. New Zepuha is one of the only remaining countries that primitively see the Ocelot Isles as part of Pavonistade. "We don't care about what others say about our country," a patriotic father of four declared, "we will celebrate the very birthday that is slated for every March 1st."

Pavonsitadian President Yksteldehs Oppenheim, who originally and lightly supported Ocelotian re-integration, now say he "is pleased to see a young country that is able to frolic on its own." The hacktivist group INTERPROS, which remained supportive of Ocelotians despite now viewing them as a terrorist organization, has a spokesperson that announces "all-out defence for the independence of the Ocelot Isles."

With this anniversary comes several questions that the Ocelotians will have to answer mostly on their own. How shall Sinhako continue while enduring racism from some of the hateful people of the population? How will the Ocelot Isles be rebuilt after previous devastation? For now, Adelaide says "there are many issues for all of us to face, but that many issues are faced by all of us, all as one."
