Prior to the unification of the Vetalian Empire in the 14th-15th centuries, ethnically Vetalian regions were a collection of competing city-states and small kingdoms so there was no main capital.

From 1401-1877 Petrovsk was the capital of the Vetalian Empire. A new, central and planned city was founded in 1877 and was meant to showcase the rapidly industrializing and prosperous Vetalia; among other amenities, it was the first to have electric lights and fully modern water/sewerage infrastructure for all residents. Initial construction lasted from 1877-1898 with a gradual transition of government institutions over that period as facilities were completed.

This city, of course, was the aptly named Vetalia City which has remained the nation's capital ever since under both the Empire and its successor Republic.

On Sunday, 01 October, 1899, New Vinland's capital was moved to LaFontaine, Westminster Federal Prefecture.

The early Emperors/Empresses and other high-up members of the Zjelsjen Empire resided in the at the time small city of Sashka, but it wasn't really considered a "capital city" (nor was their much of an Empire, having little influence outside of the Shaljeka region on the main isle).

The construction of the capital city in Ytshjkabazhj (into which Sashka later merged to form one of the three city-districts) was one of many factors that led to the uniting of the island and archipelago as a singular nation under the Imperial government during the Zjelsjen Unification, and so it is generally considered the first, true capital city of the Khymas Zjelsje.

Ytshjkabazhj was constructed around the year 119 (Zjelsjen calendar).
