Liberals choose Sera Svensson as candidate for the Presidential Election
Image
Sera Svensson, leader of the official opposition

JERUSALEM, INLEDA - Today, the incumbent leader of the official opposition and leader of the Liberal Party has been selected to run as Presidential candidate for the upcoming general election in November 2015. Sera Svensson faced some competition, notably by Harriet Jones, from Gijirokastra state.

After a 2/3rds majority voted in the primary for Sera Svensson to be chosen as candidate, she said, "I am quite thankful that I have been given a second chance to run for office. For far too long, we have been decadent, we have basked in the past, and continued our old ways. I acknowledge that normalizing ties with Namor brought huge rewards, but the truth is that we are being isolated. Gone are the days when we were the leader of the free world, when the rest of the world looked up to us."

She then released her manifesto, promising to implement universal healthcare (the recent law regarding "universal healthcare" will take effect in January 2016), set up a welfare system for the needy, investigate the CIA, and reform the penal system in the domestic area. Economically, she seeks more regulation, but not "so much that our economy collapses," and is willing to raise corporate taxes. In foreign policy, she seeks to re-establish ties with Qianrong, promote a positive image for the country by supporting various countries, and to "reduce our influence within the Esquarian Union."

While many Liberals have supported it, there are some controversies: Luziycans still are not fond of a huge welfare system, let alone universal healthcare. Many feel that she is "too soft on crime," due to her plans to reform the penal system, and claim that she will drive away businesses from Luziyca, both for a corporate tax, and regulations. As well, many Luziycans feel that Luziycan influence within global affairs is a beneficial thing for the rest of the world.

A Whig MLA in Danzig said on Facebook, ''Erov Haclav is laughing madly from the pits of hell, as he sees his whore madly plotting to impose communism on this free nation." He has been disciplined by employees.

Shjoraski to propose the creation of an EU peacekeeping force
Image
President Shjoraski

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - At a visit to the Esquarian Congress, President Breuvi Shjoraski made a speech to the delegates that were present at the chamber, urging them to propose a bill to set up an EU peacekeeping force to help keep the peace in other nations.

Shjoraski explained, "For the past few years, Kraq has been in quite a bit of turmoil. We have tried to help ensure that a permanent peace treaty is put into place, but a few years later, and there is no progress. In addition, a former EU member, Sakatia has recently gotten into a civil war between a heretic and a radical Christian sect that seeks to form a global Christian state, much like how the Caliphate wants to set up a global Islamic state."

"Therefore," Shjoraski warned, "it is paramount to create an Esquarian Union force to serve as peacekeepers, not only for nations with civil wars that are members of the EU, but outside of the EU as well. If the government wants the peacekeeping force to intervene in their country, and it is due to a legitimate concern, like impending civil war, to monitor a ceasefire or even to monitor elections, we will do this: not to benefit the governments, but to the benefit the innocent civilians."

He said that "if this [the peacekeeping force] is created, it should be up to the discretion of the EU to decide how long it lasts, but it should not get itself fully involved with the day-to-day running of government, unless if there is absolute justification and a request by all sides of a conflict like in Kraq or in Sakatia. It should also only be done by the request of the government of the country, so that we won't be seen as intruding into the affairs of other countries."

Opinion piece: Ninglish is not a dialect of English, but a separate language
Image
Kung Alica on Namorese New Years'

KENYEN, NANTAI - Today, I read an article on PTH about the events in Mojing called "24 Hour Ninglish," which is dedicated to celebrating this so-called creole or dialect. 5,000 people gathered at a convention center, with speakers such as Kuo Zhang of the Namorese People's First Party, and former General Benfang Jaisang.

"Destruction of heritage can never be tolerated," the 85 year-old Benfang said. "Ninglish is not unprofessional talk as the [government] wants it to look like. It's a language, a dialect. People speak it, there are native speakers of the dialect. Many grow up speaking it. You can't take it from us, you can't force it from the education of our children. It's part of our culture, our heritage, our way of life." This was followed by applause from the audience.

Well, as the Chief Executive of Nantai, I feel that the affairs of the nation where my ancestors have originated from, and the land that my homeland took from Namor, is an important subject to contribute my thoughts on, because I am a Kannei Namorese who proudly identifies with this free nation. And this is quite interesting, to be quite honest.

"Less people are speaking Ninglish every year, but there are still a lot of people who speak it. It's unacceptable," said Zan Zhi of the "Stop Ninglish Now" movement. "There is a clear difference between a dialect of English and a screwed up, rogue perversion of English, which Ninglish is. How will native English speakers in the world react if a young businessman goes out into the world and asks someone where he can go to 'pipi?' How would they react when they see a Namorese person asking for a bottle of 'cock?' This madness has to stop if we want to prove ourselves as a country that's serious in our education."

I think that Ninglish is, in my opinion, not really a language related to that of English. It may use English vocabulary, but it's grammatical structure is definitely Namorese. It has its own use: in Nantai, we virtually never use Ninglish, except for some old people who use it regularly, and as a type of motherese that parents speak to their babies. Since the 1950s, Ninglish has all but disappeared, as Luziycan English took over as the prestige dialect for English here in Nantai, though a lot of Namorese words made their way into our variety, meaning that our variety can easily be told apart from say, the one spoken in the Bible Belt, or the one in Gijirokastra or even Bethlehem.

Ninglish does give a bad reputation among Namorese: it gives an impression that we are barbaric, that we cannot function in a modern society because we use terms that do not appear professional to a typical English speaker. How, you ask? Here are some common traits.

  • Comparative adjectives are rarely used in Ninglish. Instead, an adjective is usually preceded by "more" regardless of how many syllables the adjective has (e.g. "taller" becomes "more tall," "happier" becomes "more happy"). Comparative adjectives like "tallest," "biggest" or "happiest" are "most tall," "most big" and "most happy" in Ninglish.
  • "R (as in rug)" is pronounced "l (as in love)." This is seen more in spoken Ninglish than in written Ninglish (e.g. A person who is considered to speak Ninglish may pronounce "library" as "lie-bleh-lee" or "lie-blee," but when written the spelling is kept intact).
  • Unit of currency is always "money," regardless of currency. This supposedly comes from the Namorese practice of referring to all currencies as "рамон (ramon)," which literally translates to money. Instead of saying "This costs 5 dollars," a Ninglish speaker might say "This costs five moneys."
  • The adjective "middle" is used instead of "medium." This is because in Namorese, "middle" and "medium" share the same Namorese equivalent, "джунг (jung)."
  • Determiners (primarily "the") are rarely, if not ever, used.
  • Phrases with contractions (e.g. "don't walk," "don't eat") are replaced with the word "no" preceding the verb (e.g. "no walk," "no eat").
  • When talking about a single person, the plural form of person (people) is used (e.g. "One person" becomes "One people").
  • Full sentences are followed by exclamative particles like "-la," "-li" or "-yo."

Essentially, all the points sans for the last one seems to indicate that Ninglish is merely poorly translated English at worst, or a creole at best. If I spoke like this, people would think that I am retarded because this is how we speak to our young children, especially in the first few years of their lives, or close to it. But the very last point gives an indication that it has the potential to evolve into another language.

That said, it is a disgrace to call Ninglish related to English. It may have English words, but it is closer to Namorese grammar than English. But, there is a better idea: Ninglish needs to have a name of its own, it needs to disassociate itself with the poor image that it portrays due to how it appears to be merely bad English. As Mary Zhao, a linguist at St. Anthony's Academy, could explain, English is mutually intelligible with the Lowland Scottish language, spoken in some parts of Scotia. While many perceive it as an accent of English, it is a separate language.

So how can Ninglish function? We could call it, say, the "Bordello language" They could encourage the Bordello language to create neologisms and borrow from languages spoken in and around Namor, and even Scotian. But they need to standardize the grammar, so it does not look just like bad English, but a distinct language, which can easily be told and not be confused. But alas, maybe it may be a wise idea to get rid of Ninglish. Education can start the process, but globalization shall finish the job.

Otekian National Coalition to condemn the HDF plan
Image
Members of the Holy Defense Forces

FRONTIERSBURG, UPPER YORK - As the government-in-exile considers plans to create the Holy Defense Forces, Natasha Roman of the ONC has issued a statement condemning the formation of the Holy Defense Forces, which Anisim said that the group will intervene in Qianrong, where local militants have recently struck against minority groups in the country, including Otekians, saying "Our kind is being slaughtered [in Qianrong] and the world is turning the other way."

However, the fact that the HDF said that it will involve itself where-ever there are Otekians, including Oteki itself has sparked concern from leader of the ONC, Natasha Roman.

Roman released a statement, saying "On behalf of the Otekian community, the decision to reassert the use of violence, the use of force to further the cause to try and achieve greater autonomy for the region. Our militant days are over: they are ineffective, they decrease support, and ultimately, it harms future relations with Namor and prevent any negotiations from succeeding. Oteki may be occupied by Namor, but the Namorese who live here have the same rights as Otekians and Geads. Anisim does not represent us." She also added, "In regards to Qianrong, the Otekians there have their own organizations that can fight this more effectively than Anisim."

Mikhail Shumev said that "This action by Anisim's regime is disturbingly like the Knights of Saint Luther. They may want to protect Otekians, but for God's sake, they need to realize that we tried once to free Oteki by force, and we cannot revert to militarism. For better or for worse, the only path to solving the issues with Otekians is by the negotiation table: certainly not with guns and bombs."

Our predictions for the fourth edition of the Chaska i Esquarium
Image
A minor football club in Jerusalem: not the Emperors

JERUSALEM, INLEDA - It is that wonderful time of year: apart from Easter coming up (where Jesus died on the cross), the Chaska i Esquarium returns. After finishing with a silver medal in the third Chaska, the freest nation in all of Esquarium has felt quite confident that they may be able to grasp the trophy for the second time, after such a close call in that match with Masseau where we lost 0-2.

So... who will be in it?
This is the largest edition of the Chaska i Esquarium, with forty nations competing. Names like Ainin, Vyvland, Michillies, Britanno, Unolia and Namor (to name a few) are returning to this edition of the Chaska i Esquarium. In addition, Pavonistade, the Ocelot Isles, and quite a lot of countries including Vojkaria and even the former Dominion of Craik, now known as Kraq. In total, twenty-two nations will make their debut. And of course, Faureia, being the communist shithole they are were caught using steroids.

The likely contenders for the Chaska
Masseau, the winners of the third edition of the Chaska i Esquarium are staying out of this edition, so that leaves a small pool. Thus, we see the likely contenders to win the Chaska.

  • Firstly, is Vyvland. Vyvland is a nation that won the second edition in the Chaska i Esquarium, but was booted out early in the third Chaska due to their poor performance. They seek to take revenge and ensure that they get a chance to win it.
  • Ainin has been training quite hard to ensure that they are able to win the Chaska. They are often seen as hopefuls to win the Chaska, but have consistently fallen short. Maybe they should just give up this football thing already and move on to something easier, like croquet.
  • Our foes in the Orient (or at least people who we don't trust) is Namor. In the second Chaska, they actually tied us, which in a sense was a good thing for both of us.
  • The hosts, Michillies seem to have a good chance. They are quite fond of football and are determined to host it. Masseau has had the home effect, so they may go quite far within this edition.
  • And lastly, but not least is the freest nation in all of Esquarium, is Luziyca. We have had a fantastic run, with us winning the inaugural Chaska i Esquarium, losing the second edition, and getting second-place in the previous Chaska i Esquarium. We have a strong chance of achieving victory.

But how well will we fare?
Because the Chaska i Luziyca has not happened, we're stuck with the Emperors, whether we like it or not. Thus, there is a higher chance that we may do poorly in this edition. Why?

In the first Chaska, the Semrov Patriots won the trophy, and there was essentially this wave of patriotism. However, by the time the second Chaska got around, they were like a house of cards: one stumble and it all collapses. And in this case, the Patriots witnessed a change in formation to try and prevent others from using the 2-2-6 formation that they were using, to 1-1-8. They played many matches in between the first and the second Chaska, so they were quite worn out, and therefore unable to do well. We feel that the same fate may befall the Emperors, because they have played their fair share of matches, even though we have not changed our formation.

As such, Jerusalem's players have been taking an extended break from Christmas on, so to relax and unwind, and then starting in March, extensive training to ensure that our team stands a chance in at least making it to the third-place tournament. Many of them have high hopes and a strong morale, and are looking forward to participating in the Chaska.

So, as the Emperors prepare to pack their bags and depart the cool Inledan regions to the humid Michillian nation,

Elections in Oteki: Wei Siang wins popular vote
Image
Wei Siang, DSP

GUSEV, OTEKI - Today, Otekians within Oteki have gone to the polls. The results were the Democratic Socialist candidate Wei Siang has 54 percent of the vote (5,445,480 votes), followed by Liberationist Hua Bai with 24 percent of all votes (2,420,213 votes) and independent politician Irakliy Lazar following tightly behind with 22 percent (2,218,529 votes). In total, 10,084,222 people turned out to vote - the highest number which exceeded the last leadership election, when 9,481,283 people voted, according to state media.

"I'm happy that I won. But something else makes me even happier, and that is the fact that Txotai's people are able to cast their ballot and witness the second transition of power in the region since it became an autonomous republic. The people are becoming more reasonable and sensible when choosing their leaders, and that is something all of us can be proud about. Because of this, we know our democratic development didn't happen for no reason, that it wasn't empty talk. It's action, and we are all witnesses of it."
Wei said on PTH that he "will not let the people down."
"Together, we can do much. Let us continue working for a better, more prosperous, more harmonious Txotai. Let us work to expand opportunities to all people in this great region. Let us work to make this place safer for our children, and may our efforts not be in vain. Let us move forward and together, not as Kannei, not as Otekians, but as the people of Namorese Txotai."

Despite these statements, there is criticism. Valeriy Anisim of the Otekian government-in-exile has described it as a "fraudulent election that does not represent the will of the people," and stated that "the fact that after a long time, Oteki still remains under Namorese occupation with little signs of improvement in the human rights situation means that things are not getting better here. We need to act now: God cannot save Oteki: we have to save our own land!"

In Qianrong, prominent Otekiaas commented on the situation, with Klitishiko and Karamonikov commenting on these elections:

"The Namorese government has proved repeatedly that it is willing to lie in order to try and legitimize their harsh and oppressive rule over Oteki," Klitishivko said to the QCNA. "I said several days ago that these results would probably be falsified, and the evidence we have and the lessons of the past suggest that this election is far more dubious than Namor would want us to believe." He highlighted the repression of free speech under the Anti-Secession Law and the arrests and murders of Otekians for dubious reasons, as well as Northern Development's demographic manipulation and the numerous attempts by Namor to cover the truth about Oteki through propaganda and intimidation.

Karamonikov focused more on the allegations of Otekian terrorist plans with regards to the elections, saying they highlighted racism and Otekiphobia in Namorese society. "The All Saints Militia and the Holy Defense Forces were formed to defend, not to attack," he said, "but Namorese state media acted as though a terrorist attack on the elections was essentially inevitable. This highlights a certain racism, that Otekians are expected to be terrorists in Namor... but no attacks materialized, which proves that this bigotry is wholly unjustified."

While the Qianrongese government has criticized the results, the Otekian National Congress has issued their support, congratulating Wei for his victory and praising the people who voted, with Mikhail Shumev saying "You have made what you have felt is the right decision for Oteki. All we hope is that Wei can persuade Namo to bring devomax to Oteki, or at the very least, repeal the anti-seccession act and replace it with one that is not so broad and brands us all as terrorist scum."

Natasha Roman commented on Twitter, "I wish you the best of luck in office, and may you ensure that you do a good job in governing and administrating the region. And may you not close the doors to negotiations."

Elections Luziyca has said that "the elections are fair," but noted that "with possible demographic manipulation, it may be possible that the voting was skewed, and leaves much to be desired."

However, 3,500 people in Frontiersburg have took to the streets, criticizing the results of the election.

Moderates to head to Geadland for a heart-to-heart chat
Image
Cartoon by the Liberator

DA HEGNER, GEADLAND - It was announced by the Geadish government to hold a meeting between the government, the Geadish Campaign for a Free Oteki, and the Otekian National Coalition, which is based in Frontiersburg, Luziyca.

According to the National Daily Post, Prime Minister Efa Nordland explained, "'This was our decision to invite them to Geadland. We're just planning a talk - nothing more. We don't really know what might come out of this. But looks what's going on east of the border. The separatist leadership is planning to re-militarise. There is a real possibility that terrorist activity could enjoy a resurgence after years of decline, which is not just dangerous for Namor but dangerous for Geadland too. But unlike the 1960s, the Otekian nationalist movement doesn't just consist of violent groups, but it includes moderate groups, too. They could play an important part in helping our nations deal with the violent ones.'"

President Shjoraski has praised the decision of the Geadish government, stating that, "The endorsement of talks with moderates who advocate for greater autonomy for Oteki, or at least peaceful measures is a wonderful news to hear, and we hope that these talks shall produce fruitful results."

In Frontiersburg, Mikhail Shumev and Natasha Roman have both announced that they will represent the Otekian National Congress in the discussion being held in Geadland.

Shumev explained, "The fact that Nordland is willing to give us a chance to discuss the situation in Oteki is a wonderful thing. I for one, am looking forward to heading towards Geadland, and I pray that Namor doesn't get upset over this. If they do cancel it because Namo pressures them, I'd be irritated."
Natasha Roman also said, "It is quite wonderful to head to Geadland to discuss Oteki: how to best discuss this," but said that "it may be a good idea to invite the Geadish opposition as well."

In contrast, Valeriy Anisim criticized the decision, saying "While these talks are good in theory, the main issue is that they refuse to invite us to join them in Geadland as well. It does not represent the best interests of the Otekian people, and ultimately, it only brings Oteki under further domination by the Namorian."

In Frontiersburg, many in the community were divided, with many supporting the talks, but others opposing it.

One resident said, "These talks will produce nothing. Nobody can help us, so it is our duty to change Oteki for the better: even if it involves violent force against the Namorese."
In contrast, another replied, "I have high hopes that these talks will produce results, so that Geadland can apply some pressure to Namor: they have started with the Letter of Millions, but they need to go further."

In Namor, the people seemed to be critical of the talks, with the Liberator issuing a tweet showing their cartoon of the day: charming "moderate" serpentists, which is a typo of separatists. This picture has gone viral on Luziycan cyberspace, and has drawn significant criticism, due to it depicting the snake that appears to represent Otekians as a force that intends to annex Geadland back into Luziyca.

A senior official from West Geadland said "it is malicious, and quite frankly, it is ridiculous. To think all Luzzies want to annex Geadland is like saying that all blacks are savages: it is patently untrue." Many prominent people all over Luziyca have echoed similar sentiments.

Emperors lose 3-5 to Scotians
Image
The Emperors before they departed

CARTHAGE, MICHILLIES - Today, the proud Luziycan Emperors lost 3-5 to the Scotian national team, after a valient effort to ensure that we were able to win the first match, and ultimately lost by two points, in a humiliating defeat against the debuting Scotsmen.

In the first half, about 2 minutes in, Rodgar Hagen scored the first Luziycan goal, bringing the game to 1-0. Ten minutes in, John Fraser attempts to score a goal, and is repelled by Bosse Dahl. Twenty-two minutes in, Fraser makes it again and bypasses the hapless defense to ensure that the match was tied one to one. After this, we were essentially tied and it reached a literal stalemate for the rest of the half, but just two seconds to go, Felix Niequest ended the half with a goal for the Emperors, with a 2-1 score.

But the second half did not fare as well: seven minutes in, Fraser again scores a goal, tying the match 2-2. We had to start adjusting our methods to try and score a goal, to try and win the match against the Scotsmen. Unfortunately, Fraser scores a goal, tipping the balance to the Scots just eleven minutes in, with a score of Luziyca having two points, the Scotians having three points.

At the twenty minute mark, Anna scores a goal, tying the match 3-3, and at twenty nine minutes, Rodgar attempts to score another goal to break the deadlock, but fails with Vang Wei succeeding in blocking the pass. Thirty-nine minutes in, Li Wen scores a goal, bringing the score to 3-4. Anna tries to score another goal forty-two minutes in, but fails and with mere seconds to go in the second half, Michael Ferguson scored the match-ending goal, bringing the score to 3 points for the Emperors, and 5 for the "Royal Stewarts."

When asked, Wang Kerr said, "I am quite disappointed that we did not do as well as we hoped, but I am quite confident that on Tuesday, we will achieve a significant victory against Banija. This is only a minor setback, and I know that we will train hard to achieve our aim."

However, a fan from Semrov was doubtful: former player Sifa Upendo for FC Semrov explained "if we can judge by past records, let us note that we did significantly awful in the second edition. We changed our formation to 1-1-8, and we attempted to live up to that victory that we achieved in the first Chaska i Esquarium. However, we did poorly, and as a result of our losses, we were losing morale. I think this Chaska will be much like the second Chaska, where we did horribly and were eliminated in the quarterfinal by the Vyvlanders, losing 4-1. If the Emperors do make it to the semi-finals, I will be quite stunned, and if they make it to the finals, I will eat my own shoe."

Our great leader threatens execution of the Luziycan National Team
Image
The great leader, Breuvi Shjoraski

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - As the Luziycans enter a bye, and as a meme, "When Pigs Fly" start to become more and more popular, our great President Breuvi Shjoraski, oppressor of all Luziycans has decided that should Luziyca not make it to the Round of Sixteen, he shall punish the Emperors for their incompetence and disgrace to the proud Luziycan nation.

"Our team has become a national disgrace for us," our great leader proclaimed. "In our inaugural match this season, we were defeated three points to Scotia's five points: a country that only debuted in this Chaska i Esquarium. But we thought that it was a temporary setback, when we were tied one all in yesterday's match against Banija, another debutant."

He continued, "Our team is a disgrace to this totalitarian country, just like Semrov was in the second edition of the Chaska i Esquarium. But unfortunately that time, we were too lenient and did give any pressure. Because we are certain that we are unlikely to reach the round of sixteen, we have decided that if our team loses and does not enter the Round of Sixteen, or the Round of Eight, we shall execute them by burning them at the stake. One by one, the smoke that ascends to the almighty Lord shall make them realize the error of their ways, and that next time, they ought to try and be effective as a team."

"The Emperors are a disgrace: perhaps this threat can make them win all the remaining matches within this Chaska," our great leader concluded.

PERKELE! PERKELE! PERKELE! PERKELE! PERKELE!

The Emperors on the pitch with their piss-ugly uniforms!

CARTHAGE, MICHILLIES - It is official! The beloved Luziycan Emperors has been booted out of the running for the Chaska i Esquarium, 0-0, against the subhuman Qianrongese "team!" Despite our best efforts, these untersmenchen have managed to tie the match, zero all, therefore ensuring that we will NEVER EVER EVER get the Chaska again!

Both sides mounted a huge defense, preventing each other from scoring any bloody goals. Seven minutes in, Anna attempted to score a goal, but was blocked by Shui Teng-Ban. For the rest of the first half, the Emperors were unable to overcome the Firebirds, but 39 minutes in, Dahl blocked a shot by Ling Jiun-Qiu.

In the second half, Ling attempted to score eleven minutes in the second half, but failed. Despite this valient effort, however, the match ended zero to zero, and we were unjustly eliminated from the running of the Chaska i Esquarium! Now, the Scotians and the Qianrongese are vying to take the lead, but we, the most successful team in the history of Chaska i Esquarium, having won the inaugural Chaska and got silver in the third Chaska, are heading home with humiliation! Sure, we got one more match, but it's useless!

Shjoraski calmly said, "We did our best against the Qianrongese, but it wasn't enough to allow us to continue."

Pustinia to ban plastic bag bans
Image
Watch out: Pustinian cities cannot ban plastic bags!

FENIKSGRAD, PUSTINIA - Today, the State Legislature of Pustinia voted 72 ayes to 18 nays to implement a ban on bans on plastic bags within the state, citing consumer choice, and over-regulation. The bill, titled the "State Environmental Regulation Act, 2015" also will restrict the rights of the municipalities to putting any restrictions on cans, bottles, and boxes within the state.

The person who first proposed the bill, MLA Artur Victorovich (Whig) from the riding of Feniksgrad-Northeast said, "The reason why I've tabled this bill is because we believe that continued over-regulations will stifle the future economic growth of this free state. It also stifles the choices of consumers, who are forced to obtain paper bags, pay extra for plastic bags, or buy a reusable bag. In addition, because of concerns that our economic activity could be stifled, this bill shall end the ability of the municipalities to restrict bottles, cans, and boxes, to ensure that consumer choice shall not be violated."
In stunning contrast, MLA Mary Pelagayov of Semen said, "This bill only hurts the choices of the communities that reside within the state to decide whether to ban these or not: you may cite individual freedoms, or over-regulation, when quite frankly, this state does not have a lot in the way of environmental regulations. I shall encourage my constituents to not use plastic bags, even if this bill gets passed."

Currently, only one city, Semen, with 37,500 people has banned plastic bags, outlawing them in 2011. Elsewhere in the country, at least fifty cities have implemented plastic bag bans, or at least restricted them: many states have imposed taxes on plastic bags, leaving Pustinia, Shenitsa, Tungista, Kashui, and Ubezha as the only areas to not have taxes on plastic bans. In recent months, Pelagaya and Palmyra have talked about implementing plastic bag bans as well.

With a Whig supermajority in the state legislature of Pustinia, all of the Whig members voted yes to outlaw bans on plastic bags, while the official opposition, the Liberal Party voted no. They are the only two parties in the state legislature of Pustinia.

Following the vote, Governor Ted Vorokovich announced to the press, "I fully intend to sign this act into law, because I care for the best interests of this state, and the people who reside in the state." When the press attempted to ask him questions, he had no comment upon them.

Despite this, there was a lot of criticism, especially among environmentalists, who criticized the act as "a step backwards and only promotes greater environmental damage." Some people have even argued that "the retail industry is completely behind this act," though there has been no comment from the top retail chains.

Ted Vorokovich to sign the ban on banning plastic bags into law
Image
Watch out: Pustinian cities cannot ban plastic bags!

FENIKSGRAD, PUSTINIA - After the passage of the State Environmental Regulation Act of 2015 in the Legislative Assembly of the State of Pustinia, Governor Ted Vorokovich has officially signed the bill into law today, saying that "the bill shall contribute to consumer choice within the state and combat extensive consumer regulations."

MLA Artur Victorovich (Whig) from the riding of Feniksgrad-Northeast said, "With the passage of the bill, I am quite pleased with my fellow legislators who decided to look towards sanity and support this act that ensures that consumer choice shall be preserved."
In stunning contrast, MLA Mary Pelagayov (Liberal) of Semen said, "I am disappointed that this bill has been passed, because this bill will only harm the environment. In 20 years time, we'll look back on this and we shall be on the wrong side of history for opposing the environment."

Currently, only one city, Semen, with 37,500 people has banned plastic bags, outlawing them in 2011, but with the bill now in law, this bylaw will be overturned on the first of May when the State Environmental Regulation Act goes into law.

The CEO of Karshev's, Trevor Karshev has praised the bill, announcing that "this bill will support and preserve the choices of consumers in Pustinia, and helps curb extensive regulations that harm the choices of the people in the long run."

Meanwhile, 650 environmentalists held a protest in front of the Legislative Building in Feniksgrad, protesting the bill: people in the city of Semen have sent their MLA requests to repeal the act.

Shjoraski comments on sending arms to Ocidenia, says "detente will not be affected."
Image
The Leader of the Free World

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - Today, President Breuvi Shjoraski has held a press conference in regards to the situation in Ocidenia, as its civil war starts to resume, and the Luziycan nation comes under scrutiny for sending arms to Simeon Brozhav's government within Ocidenia. At the Presidential Palace, press from all over the world have gathered to hear the leader of the free world say his thoughts.

"My fellow Luziycans," Shjoraski announced, "in recent days, our government has decided to send arms to the Ocidenian armed forces as separatists attempt to fight against the government in Paradisia. The separatists have violated a covenant: an agreement between the Ocidenians and themselves to maintain the peace in this unstable region. Inside Ocidenia, people are starting to protest against the government of Simeon Brozhav: while peaceful demonstrations are acceptable and the hallmark of any free society, it is not just to deliberately incite a rebellion against a government which has the support of the Ocidenian people, and is recognized by many countries as the legitimate government of the Ocidenian nation."

He said, "Our partners in the Ocidenian Department of Defense have contacted us to expand our partnership, and to this end, we are planning on authorizing the usage of the Central Intelligence Agency to gather intel in separatist-controlled regions to help Ocidenia retake the separatist regions, and expanding monetary aid to the government of Ocidenia to ensure that they will maintain territorial integrity. In the future, we may send advisors to the country, if the situation necessitates it."

When asked about the criticism and support for the opposition, Shjoraski explained, "The resolution that Namor had passed is merely symbolic and is essentially an internal policy. In any case, detente will not be affected by the differing foreign policy aims in regards to Ocidenia. But the action that New Zepuha is taking against the government in Ocidenia is concerning, and we shall monitor these recent developments within the region."

"If I may quote the Commissioner of Solned, Jaan Torbjörnsen, 'what's the least worst option? Prolonging the Brozhav regime or letting the rebels go on a hunting trip?'" Shjoraski concluded. "It is way better to prolong a government that was brought into power by a revolution than to let rebels run around the place, which is what has happened in Kraq and the surrounding region in the Notasian continent."

However, leader of the official opposition, Sera Svensson of the Liberal Party has criticized the decision, saying "while nations have a right to territorial integrity, the peoples also have a right to self-determination. To try and ignore the wishes of the people of Ocidenia will not only be dangerous for our reputation, it will result in increased anti-Luziycan sentiment and likely intensify the conflict there."

A small protest with 1,550 people was held at the Square of Nations in Gijirokastra expressing support for the separatists and criticizing the decision of Breuvi Shjoraski to send arms to the government of Simeon Brozhav.

Shjoraski announces the end of the Cold War, pledges support to Ainin following devastating terrorist attack
Image
The Leader of the Free World

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - Today, President Breuvi Shjoraski convened Congress to speak to both chambers in a joint session due to recent events that have occurred in Ainin, and to announce an official end to the Esquarian Cold War.

"My fellow Luziycans," Shjoraski began. "For the past two years, the traditional left-right divide that has characterized the Cold War here in Esquarium has started to come to a close. Détente with Namor has now reached a high point, even if it is quite rocky. Many nations who once despised the freest nation in the world now respect us and trade extensively with us. Now that détente has succeeded and because the only major communist countries are Ionland and West Cortoguay, I can safely say that the Cold War is over, and that we now enter a true new world order, with the EU, the EC, WETO, and the Triumvirate all vying for dominance over the world."

After an applause, Shjoraski continued, "Despite this, we have examples of co-operation among nations within the region. And none of this is more apparent following the devastating explosion within the city of Hartly, Ainin. Following a tragic explosion within the Aininian city of Hartly at the East Gate, where at least four people have gone to speak with God, there has been considerable debate over whether it was a natural gas pipe leak, or whether it was an intentional terrorist attack, and judging by the evidence, it seems to lean pretty heavily towards a terrorist attack. However, regardless of cause, we express condolences to the relatives and friends of those who were affected by the explosion."

"The real issue is not Tuthina," Song Jiang says
Image
Song Jiang, Nantainese representative to the Monic Union

KENYEN, NANTAI - Today, the Nantainese representative to the Monic Union, former model and actress Song Jiang (western name order: Jiang Song, lit. River Song) explained to the media that "the real issue is not Tuthina," in why Namor is refusing to join, "but rather, the main issue is the fact that we are in the Monic Union."

She explained, "Over the past few days, an issue has been spreading: a conspiracy started by the Namorese, yes, the same ones who blame all unrest in Oteki on the CIA, to claim that the Monic Union is led by Tuthina. It has spread all across the globe, so much so that Michillies wants to embargo all members of the Monic Union. However, as various other members have stated, including Tuthina itself, we are not led by the Tuthinans. By the contrary, all of us are equal members, and no one of us really is dominating."

"However," Jiang said, "the real issue is not Tuthina, but rather, the main issue is the fact that we are in the Monic Union. The Namorese may probably know the truth, that it is not led by Tuthina, but it is possible that they're masking the fact that we're in it and that it is the real reason. Well, our only duty is to represent the Kannei culture within Nantai. And by God, we will do a good job at representing our culture within Nantai."

"Of course, so long as Namor does not participate," she remarked, "we have an obligation to represent their culture as well, but if Namor does join, we will be happy to approve Namor's membership for the union, under one condition: that we remain members as well. If Namor demands that we leave the Monic Union as a prerequisite for them joining, we'll object to that then, because we have our own identity: it may be influenced by Luziyca, but at least we respect the wishes of the people."

Kung Alicia voiced her support for Song Jiang's statements, calling Nantainese membership in the union "an example of why we are not dominated by Tuthina," before adding, "In fact, if Namor did join, Tuthina can't easily impose their brand of Monic culture over them, unless if they want to make themselves go bankrupt almost instantly."

Sera Svensson, the Leader of the Officlal Opposition party (Liberals) said on Twitter, "All this does is make Namor more willing to demand that Nantai be returned, regardless if the people actually want it. Nantai should not have joined the Monic Union."

The President's office has made no comment on this so far.

Vignali's express hope that their relatives are alive

February 2015 in Yerevan

YEREVAN, LOMBARDIA - After news came out of the disaster that occurred with the Initiative for Exploration of the Pavonistadian Hiatus (IEPH) ships, relatives of the Vignali family who were participating in the expedition to explore the uninhabited regions of Pavonistade west of the "Wild West Line," hoped that they did not perish in the sinking of the Cagliari and the Sailor.

Cosimo Vignali, brother of Ivanoe Vignali said, "I am quite sad at what happened to my brother and my niece. I hope that the whole family is still alive, for our own sakes. That said, I feel that it is futile to rescue them because it is unlikely that they would survive the disaster. But if they have, I would probably not want them to rescue my brother because I know that his goal was to inhabit an uninhabited land and make it a colony. I want him to have a chance at it, and I know his wife and daughter would fully support him on this."

However, Flora Vignali commented that "I am worried sick for my son, my daughter-in-law, and my granddaughter, and that if they are alive, I want them to return back to Yerevan, even if they object to this. It is for their own good, because this journey had my support, but they are being exposed to dangers so severe that I doubt they'd last a year or a week. I want the Pavons to give it their all to rescue any and all survivors of this disaster, and then hold the IEPH culpable for negligence for ignoring the weather forecasts."

Monic Union to hold film festival in Nantai
Image
Hostess Yu Adrianna

PO'AI, NANTAI - Today, the Monic Union has decided to hold a film festival in the city of Po'ai, Nantai. Proposed by Koy representatives, it has gained support from ten members within the Monic Union, including the region of Nantai, which has volunteered to host the festival. It was later decided to host it in the neighborhoods of Po'ai that is not under Namorese occupation.

The Executive Council of the Monic Union has stated that the choice was made not due to political reasons, but rather an economic one: Kenyen, the seat of the Nantaiese government was already a blooming metropolis, and thus the smaller Po'ai would benefit more from the estimated boost in tourism due to the film festival, while other candidate settlements within the Republic of Nantai were considered too remote to effectively host the event.

Mayor Tzo Sergoy has publicly endorsed the event, saying that "Kenyen has been a major center of life here in Nantai, and it has received all the attention; all the support. But the decision to host the festival here is a good idea because it helps boost our prominence away from being 'the divided town' and to a more prosperous city that can function as a trading hub."

Chief Executive Kung Alicia has also supported it, saying that "we are continuing our duty to represent our Namorese culture, but moreso with the Nantainese culture which has absorbed Luziycan influences as well."

President Shjoraski has stated that "he will attend," and stated to the media that "The Monic Union is a purely cultural organization, and the film festival in Po'ai, while it may risk provocation, is the choice of Nantai. All nations can participate in the festival who provide films that have elements crucial to the culture of the Monic nations, including Namor proper."

However, there was opposition from the Namorese government, where it released a series of tweets condemning the film festival, as can be seen below. The whole content can be seen below:

"Despite claiming that its film festival has no political motive," the Namorese Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted, "the Monic Union erroneously called Nantai part of Luziycan territory. This is clearly an attempt by Tuthina and its allies to raise contentious issues that impede constructive Namo-Luziycan relations. There is no 'Luziycan West Poai' or 'Namorese East Poai.' There is only 1 Namorese Poai divided in 2."

In any case, hostess Yu Adriana, the presenter for the festival has felt confident, explaining "Regardless of what the government in Namo says, I am a proud Kannei Namorese who identifies with Nantai first, and Luziyca second. I know that a lot of people will be coming to West Po'ai and it will be amazing to see the best Monic films."

The film festival of the Monic Union will be broadcast on LRT4 within Luziyca. More as the story develops.

Why is the Monic film festival so controversial? A look at the upcoming film festival.
Image
President Breuvi Shjoraski at a cultural museum in West Po'ai during a campaign stop, 2011

PO'AI, NANTAI - As the date of the festival looms closer, countless countries around the world, especially Namor have been in an uproar regarding the film festival to be held in Po'ai, which is divided between a Luziycan west and a Namorese east, due to a variety of reasons, such as allegations that Tuthina is controlling the Monic Union to the age-old dispute over Nantai which seems to be everlasting, and a lot more.

It is among the first events to be organized by the Monic Union, and it has gained a lot of flack, since Namorese government officials continually insist that it is linked to the Tuthinan government, which supports an imperial restoration over Namor. Officials from both Tuthina and the Monic Union have denied that the film festival is a political event, but despite this have said that East Po'ai is Namorese, implying that West Po'ai is Luziycan, which has brought up the Nantai dispute... again.

Shjoraski said, "While I said that it is provocative, I intend to attend because I want to see what the nations of the world are contributing to the festival, and I feel that it would interesting to witness how other Monic nations portray their film styles."

Tweets from Namorese officials and celebrities have criticized the festival, with Deputy Tao James, who defected during the Third Namo-Luziycan War to the Namorese side urged directors and film enthusiasts to boycott the festival in West Po'ai. Namsa Singho, Gongchan Zhushi, and Shohai Antelope criticized detente, saying that it has resulted in Luziyca "legitimizing their occupation."

However, Nuo Ya stated that "I don't think the event is political as some politicians claim it is. Whether Nantainese think they're Namorese or not, they're still part of the Monic family as we are." She also added that: "This [film festival] is a time for people from all over the Monic world - Namorese, Tuthinans, pro-reunification and anti-reunification people - to celebrate the culture they all share," she said. "I'm going to Po'ai to celebrate our culture, not to make any points on what belongs to whom. That's a question for another time."

Some Namorese have called Nuo Ya a traitor online for supporting the Monic Film Festival, as well as these statements.

In Namo, officials haven't encouraged or discouraged a boycott, but noted that there is no such thing as a "Luziycan West Po'ai" or a "Namorese East Po'ai," but "one Namorese Po'ai divided in two," and singled the Monic Union out for calling Nantai for what it is: a territory of Luziyca.

In Bethlehem, Luziycan officials are discouraging a boycott, with Nikolai Serhoskav saying "It would not make sense for people to boycott a cultural event just because of a cultural union that has Tuthina as a member and being in a disputed territory. It is a culturally Namorese territory under Luziycan administration: this is what Fu and Shjoraski agreed on last year. Detente shall work."

Sera Svensson criticized the event, saying "This will only cause relations between Namo and Bethlehem to dip before a new low" on Twitter, and also said to LRT, "The President has a responsibility to serve as a representative for all of us, and he shouldn't participate in things that are provocative, like this. He should keep out of there and not attend it."

Shjoraski doctrine to be proclaimed
Image
President Breuvi Shjoraski's official portrait, 2014

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - With Saha now being under caliphate control and central Ragobad under the control of Ionite-backed forces seeking to restore the People's Republic of Kraq, it was announced today from the Presidential Palace in Bethlehem to implement what is known as the "Shjoraski Doctrine," with the intent to combat the Caliphate and preserve "peace and security within the eastern regions of the Notasian continent."

Shjoraski has said, "The way to preserve peace and security within the eastern regions of the Notasian continent against the Caliphate is to implement a system to help assist the governments in need in the region to fight against the terrorist organization known as the Caliphate. From Ragobad to Attahbad, the Muslims are fearing for their lives, and in a time where people are starting to see Muslims as potential security threats, we must realize that the Caliphate is the only group to be afraid of."

Major factors in the Shjoraski Doctrine include:

  • Luziyca shall co-operate with the governments within both Kraq and Irvadistan to help defeat the Caliphate with active assistance from the Luziycan Armed Forces
  • Kabena, East Nautarya and West Nautarya, Samchania and Khenia shall receive assistance to strengthen their borders and prevent an expansion of the Caliphate any further
  • To contain the Caliphate within Sahan territory and institute a quarantine on Saha to prevent assistance from going to the Caliphate and to prevent the Caliphate from launching more attacks
  • To fund Sahan rebels against the Caliphate

Shjoraski said, "These four points are for us, in our capacity as the Leader of the Free World to say that these attacks are unacceptable, and a threat to the global security and stability in the world."

The Shjoraski Doctrine has been met with criticism, with security experts concerned that the third point would not eradicate the Caliphate, but instead only making the lives of Sahan civilians impoverished and more likely to support the Caliphate.

Opinion: Nantai is Luziycan
Image
Actress Ming Sandy

PO'AI, NANTAI - I am attending the film festival in West Po'ai. From my hotel room, I can witness a huge mob on the Namorese side, on Central Avenue, while on this side, I see a bunch of people attending the film festival. I am Ming Sandy, or Sandy Ming, and I am an actress for the film "Fenle" or Separation, which chronicles the separation of Po'ai from the POV of someone from West Po'ai and how it affects their relationships and ties, and does not really focus on politics at all. However, the Namorese seem to continually insist that Nantai is Namorese, so I will disprove them with their arguments.

It has been a long time since the Treaty of Tatra
A major point of the controversy over Nantai was whether the Treaty of Tatra was fair or not. Many scholars on both sides have now said that it is unfair, and as such, Namor uses this as justification for us to give up Nantai. However, considering that Nantai has been legally under Luziycan control since 1898, after nearly one hundred twenty years, it makes no sense for Namor to continue to assert their claim over Nantai, except East Po'ai which it seized in the 1950s.

Considering how we renounced our claim over East Po'ai last year, and also tried to please Namor by designating Nantai a "Namorese territory under Luziycan administration," Namor should be pleased, because we are not going to give up Nantai so easily...

The people are against it
"You're not kidding anybody, Shjoraski," Tao stated to the crowd at that rally. "Of all the places this film festival can be held, you have it hosted in Po'ai just so you can rub it in our faces. What other reason for having the festival hosted [in western Po'ai] than to show that the western part of the city - and the rest of Nantai - is Luziycan? You also say that most Nantainese don't want reunification. You're not kidding anybody, Shjoraski, you're not kidding anybody."

Let's recap again... "You also say that most Nantainese don't want reunification. You're not kidding anybody, Shjoraski, you're not kidding anybody."

Well, Tao James, the traitor who has boldly implied that all Nantainese want reunification, you are wrong. Dead wrong. The Kenyen Sibo has conducted several opinion polls regarding the issue of Nantainese reunification.

  • In 1970, 81% opposed reunification with Namor, and 8% supported reunification in Namor. 11% were neutral or had no comment.
  • In 1980, 74% opposed reunification, 9% supported reunification, and 17% were neutral
  • In 1990, 68% opposed reunification, 11% supported reunification, and 21% were neutral
  • In 1997, 84% opposed reunification, 3% supported reunification, and 13% were neutral
  • In 2000, 80% opposed reunification, 5% supported reunification, and 15% were neutral
  • In 2005, 76% opposed reunification, 9% supported reunification and 15% were neutral
  • In 2010, 71% opposed reunification, 11% supported reunification and 18% were neutral
  • In 2015, 66% opposed reunification, 13% supported reunification, and finally, 21% are neutral

The opinion poll has a sample size of 2,500 people across the constituent republic, and so while support for Nantainese reunification is rising, a majority still oppose rejoining Namor. If a referendum were held today, at least 2/3rds of the Nantainese population would vote to not reunite with Namor. So yeah Tao, you are only kidding yourself and your fellow countrymen.

A unique culture
Since having been taken from Namor by Luziyca, our culture has experienced a significant change, due to influences from Luziyca. We may be related by blood to the Namorese people, but we do not follow the Namorese culture. We follow our own Nantainese culture. We speak Nantainese Namorese and Luziycan, we eat both Luziycan and Namorese food, we have our own pop culture, our own celebrations and events. Many are now secular, but they attend Txoist temples on holidays if they are Txoist or church services if they're Christian.

If we were to reunite with Namor, either by force or by referendum, Nantai would risk losing their culture as it is forced to assimilate into mainstream Namorese culture: while it may be voluntarily, there will be tremendous pressure to do this, primarily due to the sheer numbers of the Namorese population, and the rabid nationalism that many Namorese have over Nantai. At least right now, we are holding our own, taking the best of both Namorese and Luziycan cultures and making them part of a single Nantainese culture.

The barrier is the final border
Along the border is the Namo-Luziycan barrier built after the Third Namo-Luziycan War in 1996. When the barrier was constructed, it went along the eastern border of Nantai, in contrast to that of the western border which Namor claims. If investing millions upon millions of lira to construct and maintain the border is not enough to convince Namor that Nantai is Luziycan, I do not know what is.

It demarcates every inch of the border from the tripoint between us, Namor and Geadland to us, Namor, and Katranjiev, and since it was built with Nantai, this is essentially a permanent border. It is only a matter of time before Namor accepts the reality that everything west of the barrier is Luziyca, and everything to the east is Namor.

These are just the major reasons. If Namor responds to this, they should not think that because I forgot to include something, that they are right in claiming Nantai, and that it disproves their point: I know some Namorese news organizations have done that, and quite frankly, it makes the news organizations look bad. I only included the major reasons for I will need to attend the premiere of Fenle, which is really gripping.

Terrorism rocks Askatasuna
Image
Mendebaldeko Atea Mall, 2006

ASKATASUNA, IRINUSHKA - Yesterday, at about six in the evening, a tragedy struck this free nation when a vehicle blew up at the main entrance to the Mendebaldeko Atea Merkatu (West Gate Mall in Azena). The mall opened in 1988 by James Nagusi, a successful businessman in the city, and became an upmarket shopping center within the former Associated Free State, and one of the busiest shopping centers within the region.

The terrorist attack against the Mendebaldeko Atea Merkatu has been estimated to cause at least 326 million lira (or 652 million dollars) in damages, and the death toll was suspected to be "at least" 50-75 people. It was estimated that around 3,000 people were at the shopping center at the time of the attacks, and almost immediately, a rescue operation has been conducted: so far, 245 survivors have been rescued from the rubble at the shopping center, as well as 16 bodies being recovered, and identified by the Askatasuna Police Department.

Governor Simon Nathanen has indicated "the evidence seems painfully obvious that we're dealing with a terrorist attack here: there is almost no chance that it is anything other than a terrorist attack. The main question is which group committed this, whether it is the work of the Caliphate, the Purity Congress, the Knights of the Blessed Sapphire, or something entirely different."

There also is evidence of damage to surrounding buildings, as far as nine blocks away from the Mendebaldeko Atea shopping center.

Suspect for the Mendebaldeko Atea Merkatu attack apprehended
Image
Mahmud Jakue Ehiztari

ASKATASUNA, IRINUSHKA - At 11:00 am today, chief suspect Mahmud Jakue Ehiztari was arrested by the Askatasuna Police Department for one count of terrorism, and 3,000 counts of attempted or successful first-degree murder. He immediately confessed to all of these acts, saying that "I am doing it to spread the jihad to western Notasia," and that "this attack is for the plans of Shjoraski to destroy Islam."

Jakue Ehiztari was born on Sept. 12, 1988 in Azubah, Sud-Plyazh to Andriu Ehiztari, and Tejedor Ehiztari, both ethnic Azena. He was baptized as a Lutheran Catholic, and was a successful student in his younger years, earning the praise of teachers and participated in the school football team. He was friendly to his family and was said to have been easy-going and a promising student with a future in cyber-security until 2009 when he began to change his personality: becoming anti-government, and heavily supportive of Islamic fundamentalism.

He dropped out of the Askatasuna Polytechnic and in 2010, he converted to Islam and adopted the name "Mahmud Jakue Ehiztari." He cut off ties to all his friends and family, and focused more on his Islamic comrades. In 2013, he headed to Kraq alongside his comrades to fight alongside the Caliphate under the pseudonym "Yusuf al-Gebra," and returned last December, where he started planning the inhuman terrorist attack.

The confession statement that was given said "I am doing it [the terrorist attacks] to spread jihad to western Notasia. The reason is because for so long, many nations have sought to destroy Islam: this attack is for the plans of Shjoraski to destroy Islam." He was granted access to a lawyer.

His trial is unscheduled, but an official from the Department of Homeland Security has said "due to his circumstances as a threat to our national security, he will not be permitted bail."

As for the situation, about 985 survivors have been rescued as of 6:30 pm local time (7:30 pm Yerevan time, 8:30 pm in Gijirokastra and 9:30 pm in Bethlehem, as well as 10:30 pm in Kenyen), while 678 bodies have been recovered. Out of the 985 survivors, 328 have serious injuries and 46 are in critical condition, while the remainder were only lightly injured.

The Mendebaldeko Atea Mall to come down
Image
Mendebaldeko Atea Mall, 2006

ASKATASUNA, IRINUSHKA - After five days, Governor Simon Nathenen has announced that "effective today, our main goal is to demolish the mall. We intend to recover the remains, but I have very high doubts that there are any more survivors in the rubble at the Mendebaldeko Atea."

After five days, 1,283 survivors have been rescued and 1,002 bodies have been recovered from the rubble of the Mendebaldeko Atea Mall. 715 are missing and presumed deceased in absentia.

With Mahmud Jakue Ehiztari having confessed to conducting the attacks, and with his ties to the Caliphate via the Islamic Courts of Kraq in 2013 and 2014, the Askatasuna Police Department has said "the Caliphate or a cell has been conducting such attacks in revenge for the Shjoraski doctrine which is to restore freedom and liberty to this nation." His trial is scheduled for June 4th.

President Breuvi Shjoraski has expressed condolences, and said that "these attacks against our free and democratic nation are inexcusable. And with the rise of terrorism in all of Esquarium, there needs to be a war on terror, to stamp out terrorism not just in eastern Notasia, but all over the rest of the world as well."

The Pope has also expressed condolences to those who have perished in the attacks, and has said that "the perpetrator is a disgrace, not just to Christianity, but to his own faith."

And was Jerusalem builded here upon the dark satanic mills?
Image
Royal Palace in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, INLEDA - As the Eduskunta has issued an ultimatum to the government in the Michillies for their alleged involvement in the bombing at the royal wedding, various high-ranking officials, celebrities, and retired officials have signed a letter started by former President William Bush urging them to set their differences aside and negotiate.

It began, "To the Nevan Council of State, the Nevan Royal Council, and the Generalitat of the Republic of Michillies."

He then went on to write, "As the former President of Luziyca in the 1990s, I have borne witness to a devastating war in 1996: for a few weeks, the governments of Namor and Luziyca waged a war that began due to an accidental incursion into Namorese territory in Vulan. The Namorese were thus provoked into issuing a violent response and started the war against us. In the end, we both claimed victory in the sheer ignorance that nobody truly won."

"We were dangerously close to starting a Third Great War when we had the nuclear stand-off," it continues. "Had one of us pressed the button, there would have been widespread destruction with a senseless slaughter of billions just for the sake of political games, the goal of removing Namor and us respectively from the globe. Nearly twenty years after the end of the Third Namo-Luziycan war, a terrorist attack in Nevanlinna risks plunging Nevanmaa and Michillies into a renewed state of war, and with this, a chance of a Third Great War that could bring senseless destruction of billions of people, all for some false concept of honor and revenge."

He then says, "This ultimatum may be fair, especially the first three demands. The forth demand is a bit risky because the Michillian government has no role within the attacks apart from negligence resulting in two bombs being taken by the NRLF. However, the fifth clause is not right, because since 1987, none of the officials in the Nevan government-in-exile are Nevan citizens, though NRLF suspects who are caught should be tried. The sixth clause is fair, since it could determine how much they have played in this attack apart from negligence."

The letter then reads, "That said, should this be refused, we will risk a war that could mark an end to human civilization. Thus, we urge all parties to head to the city of Jerusalem to negotiate a treaty that satisfies both parties, so to prevent a devastating war between the two nations."

It then concludes with "God help us all."

President Breuvi Shjoraski has signed it, saying "a war between the Nevans and the Michillians is not in their best interests, let alone that of the entire region."
Sera Svensson, leader of the official opposition has also signed the letter, remarking "to assign blame so prematurely to the government administering Michillies is not wise: there ought to be more evidence."
Kung Alicia also has signed, and stated that "I do not wish for what happened in Nantai to occur between those two countries."

So far, 285 people, mainly politicians, celebrities and other role models have signed the petition. As well, Luziyca has raised the readiness of military bases in the northern regions of Luziyca in case of war.

War looms between Nevanmaa and Michillies
Image
Time's passing. Are you?

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - The call of peace outlined in the Jerusalem Declaration has gone unheeded by both the Nevan and the Michillian governments, and thus, as the threat of war looms, Congress has passed an emergency resolution regarding the upcoming third Great War.

Major points in the emergency resolution, known as the "Michillian-Nevan War Act, 2015" are as follows:

  • All diplomatic staff from Luziyca to both the Michillies and Nevanmaa are to be recalled and having Minister-Plenipotentiaries appointed to serve for the duration of the conflict
  • All non-essential travel and trade to the countries of Nevanmaa and Michillies are to be discouraged by the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Homeland Security
  • The Luziycan Armed Forces shall be put on standby within Inleda, Nova-Terra, Alto Luziyca, Danzig, and West Geadland so to be able to be mobilized within two hours
  • Luziycan ships are to not be permitted to supply Nevanmaa and Michillies with any goods except humanitarian goods

It was a unanimous vote, with every party supporting it in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, with the President approving the Michillian-Nevan War Act.

President Breuvi Shjoraski has said "with the lack of response from Christiana in regards to the Nevan terms, or both Nevanlinna and Christiana in regards to the Jerusalem Declaration, our country is left with no other choice but to express strict neutrality in this conflict, because if we intervene, it will not be beneficial to anyone residing on Earth."

Sera Svensson has stated that "this will send a strong message to both Christiana and Nevanlinna and send pressure to these countries to not intervene," but added that "there should be more restrictions."

At midnight EST (1 am NDT, 11 pm WDT, and 10 pm LST), the first and third provisions that are outlined shall come into effect, with all other provisions to come into effect at 1 pm EST (2 pm NDT, 12 pm WDT, 11 am LST) when the ultimatum expires. If both parties agree to the Jerusalem Declaration or Michillies accepts the Nevan ultimatum, this act will not come into effect.
