President Leaves For Hawaii

President Murphy left Richmond this morning to begin an official state visit to the Kingdom of Hawaii. The president has been a strong advocate of improving diplomatic and trade relations with the Pacific island nation since taking office earlier this year. During her visit to Richmond this past spring, Hawaii's Queen Ariyoshi went so far as to say that she was open to the idea of leasing land to the CGSA for the purpose of opening up a naval instillation. The president said a possible Confederate naval base will "absolutely" be on the agenda when he meets with the queen.

Grey House Premiers To Record Ratings

Grey House, a new political drama about the inner workings of a presidential administration, premiered to the highest ratings in DBC history on Thursday. An estimated 34 million viewers tuned in to watch award-winning actor Mike Sutter portray Liberal president Arnold "Arne" Fulbright. Those are the highest ratings for a scripted program ever garnered by the Dixie Broadcasting Company. In 1978, the 10 part epic mini-series Confederate Revolution, about the GCSA's war for independence, earned the Confederate Television Network 54 million viewers. The highest rated program in GCSA history was the 2011 Dixie Bowl that saw the New Orleans Buccaneers defeat the Atlanta Generals.

Occupy Broad Street Protesters Arrested After Clash With Police

Seventeen "Occupy Broad Street" protesters were arrested today during a clash with Richmond Police. Protesters ran into a wall of police officers this morning when they gathered near Capitol Square to protest GCSA economic and social policies. After a glass bottle thrown by a protester hit an officer, the police moved in. "The protesters became violent, and we moved in to disperse them. Those who resisted were arrested," said RPD spokesman Sullivan Biddle. Leaders of the Occupy movement are claiming police brutality. However, video and news coverage of the clash does not support that claim. Joel Hawthorne, "indignation coordinator" for the movement, claim that they will continue to show up on Broad Street until Congress and the president adopt meaningful change.

President Continues Talks In Hawaii

President Murphy continued talks with Hawaiian Queen Ariyoshi today. The president and first lady spent last night in Lolani Palace with the royal family. After meeting with the queen yesterday, President Murphy said that there was "much common ground" between the two. The president has high hopes for establishing permanent trade relations with the island nation. Normally secluded and secretive, Hawaii has made strides to come out onto the world stage since the coronation of Queen Ariyoshi I in 2010. The president also hopes to get a commitment from the queen to lease Hawaiian land to the GCSA to build a naval base. "A permanent base in the South Pacific would be beneficial to the Confederacy, and would ensure that our important new ally is protected, Hawaii, is protected from anyone who wishes to do it harm," the president said yesterday.

Also on the president and first lady's agenda are opportunities to tour Hawaii, and meet the kingdom's citizens. The first couple will visit an active volcano on one of the islands, tour a sugar plantation, and spend some time on the kingdom's beaches. They will also drop by

Headlines of The Hour

Richmond, VA--Senator Elvis Presley (D-MS) has joined with other moderate and liberal members of the Senate in opposing the president's plan to privatize Old Age Security Insurance. "OASI has countless Mississippi seniors from losing their homes, or starving," Presley said. "It has ensured that they have medicine when they needed it. That's why I can not support the president's plan." With this new development, it is unclear whether or not the president will have the votes in the Senate to pass the proposed program.

Harlan-KY--CBI agents are working with Kentucky and Virginia authorities to investigate a series of bank robberies that have taken place in those two states. The small team of bandits is reported to have made off with over $200,000 over the last four weeks. Authorities are working with eye-witnesses and looking at surveillance photos to come up with descriptions of the men.

Alamogordo, NM--The launch of the space shuttle Davy Crockett was delayed again today due to inclement weather. "With the rain continuing, we thought it best to err on the side of caution," announced mission director Col. David Whitten of the CSAF. The Davy Crockett is slated to dock with the North American Space Station to resupply the astronauts that have been there since August 16th.

Dallas, TX--The Dallas Lone Stars are reporting that rookie sensation quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be out for 6-8 weeks following a hand injury he received during yesterday's game against the Phoenix Scorpions. Tannehill, who was drafted in the second round of this year's GCFL Draft, broke several bones in his hand after being sacked by Scorpions linebacker Barry "Beefcake" Bonneville. Despite the loss of Tannehill, the Lone Stars defeated the scorpions 48-20.

A look at DBC headlines tonight...

--President Murphy met with his national security council today to discuss the threat of the Neo-Black Panthers. This news comes less than 24 hours after the release of a new video by NBP leader Terrance X calling on all African-Confederates to take up arms against the state and Federal government. Mr. X also noted in the video that a "Day of Reckoning" was coming soon in the GCSA.

--The GCS Navy is gearing up for its annual Fleet Week, which will be held in Mobile Bay this year. Events include the parade of ship, and air show featuring the Navy's famed "Rebel Yell Squadron," and the annual football game between the Navy and Marine Corps. Fleet Week began in 1931 as a means of honoring the members of the soldiers and sailors of the GCSN and GCSMC.

--Embattled North Carolina governor John Edwards said that he is "not concerned" about the looming impeachment vote in that state's general assembly. Edwards came under fire when it was discovered that he had fathered a child with his mistress. Further, it is alleged that Edwards funneled cash from the coffers of his 2005 campaign for the Liberal Party presidential nomination into a secret slush fund for his mistress and lovechild. if impeached by the North Carolina House of Representatives, he could face removal from office.

--Across the border in the United States, that nation's four major party presidential candidates will meet in Chicago for the second of three presidential debates. President Paul Wellstone, the Progressive Candidate, currently leads Constitution Party candidate John Kasich by a healthy 11 points. American Conservative candidate Tom Tancrdeo and Green Party candidate Eric Boucher place a distant third and fourth respectively.

--In business news...the New Orleans Board of Trade saw an uptick in prices for the 9th straight day. Analysts say that the Board is still feeling the residual benefits of the increase in the Consumer Confidence Index that was announced last week. Tredegar Heavy Industries ended the day up .47 points to close at 61.49. The Halliburton Group ended up .11 points to close at 38.99. RJ Reynolds was up 1.09 points to close at 42.14. Finally, Orleans House ended the day up .23 points to close at 39.23.

--In sports, Ken McIntyre resigned as head coach of the GCFL's Carolina Rebels after that teams 58-6 loss to the Atlanta Generals on Wednesday Night Football last night. The Rebels are currently 0-5. "Over the course of the last three seasons, I have not proven myself to be the leader that this team needs," McIntyre said. "Our players, the Rebels ownership, and most importantly the fans, deserve better. Therefore I am announcing my resignation as head coach effective immediately." Neither Rebels players, nor front office personnel, had any comment this evening. However, team insiders are hinting that offensive coordinator Jefferson "Jeff" Briscoe will act as interim head coach.

The GCS Navy Kicks Off Fleet Week In Mobile

Mobile Fleet Week Kicks off this morning with one of the most talked about event of the annual festivities: The Parade of Ships, which kicks off at Noon today. Five vessels belonging to the GCS Navy and the GCS Coast Guard will enter Mobile Bay, and will sail by the GCS Naval Academy which is built right on the bay. The flagship of the parade will be the GCS Howard Baker, the newest aircraft carrier in the navy. Aboard the carrier, the men of the famous Rebel Yell Squadron will be training for the air show that is planned for Friday, October 19.

Fleet Week was started in 1931 as a way to honor the men, and now women, of our nation's Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard. The nation's major maritime cities compete to host the festivities every year, but Mobile thinks that they're the ideal city for Fleet Week. "Mobile is the home of the Confederate Navy," Mobile's mayor Jeb Shaw said. "We have been proud to host our nation's navy ever since the naval academy opened down here in 1898. Our navy and our city go hand in hand. I think when most Confederates think of the Navy, they think of Mobile."

As most football fans know, Fleet Week isn't just about ships and aircraft. This evening, Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium will host the annual Military Bowl. The bowl is held every year during fleet week, and features a contest between the Navy "Anchors," and the Marine Corps "Grunts" football teams. The annual rivalry is well-known across the country, and is watched by millions of Confederate citizens on television. The winner is presented with Semmes Trophy, which is named after famed Admiral Raphael Semmes. Navy currently leads the Marines in the number of Military Bowls won. However, the Marines have surged in recent years, and are currently ranked 24 in Top 25 polls.

DBC Sports

Before we look at today's GCFL action, let's look at some college scores from yesterday. The Military Bowl, held in Mobile, Alabama this year, turned into a defensive struggle early. In the end, it was Navy's safety Robert Graham that was able to save the day for the Anchors. With just three minutes left on the clock, the Marine Grunts were driving down the field. Graham picked off Grunts quarterback Joesph Manning, and ran the ball in for a touchdown. Navy won the game 10 to 9, and take home the Semmes Trophy this year.

Other scores around the college football world: LSU loses to Auburn 28-31, Alabama defeats North Texas 56-3, Florida squeaked by Georgia 21-20, and Texas beat Davis 28-23. For full coverage of college football Saturday, and all of the scores go to http://www.dbc.com/sports

Here's a look at the College Top 25 rankings.

1. Alabama
2. Texas
3. Virginia Tech
4. Florida State
5. Oklahoma
6. Clemson
7. Georgia
8. LSU
9. Louisville
10. Oklahoma State
11. Ole Miss
12. Texas A$M
13. South Carolina
14. Arkansas
15. Kentucky
16. Tennessee
17. Rice
18. Auburn
19. Mississippi State
20. LA Tech
21. Virginia
22. Tulsa
23. LA Lafayette
24. Georgia Tech
25. TCU

Now onto to GCFL Sunday. The Carolina Rebels won't get any rest after the beating they took on Wednesday Night Football. The 0-5 Rebels are without their head coach, Ken McIntyre, who resigned in the wake of last Wednesday's game. Jeff Briscoe will be the interim head coach this afternoon when they face the Miami Hammerheads at home in Charlotte.

The undefeated New Orleans Buccaneers are expected to walk all over the Davis Scorpions at home in the Orleans House Superdome. Buccaneers quarterback Aaron Douglas is on the way to having another MVP year, as he tries to lead his team to another Dixie Bowl.

Eastern Division's Memphis Blues will be traveling to Dallas to take on the Western Division's Dallas Lone Stars. Dallas is still without their starting quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, who is still nursing a broken hand.

We will look at the rest of today's slate of games right after this...

President's Youngest Son Arrested After Bar Brawl

Memphis police say that Stephen Murphy, the son of president Brian Murphy, was arrested for public intoxication and assault after a fracas at a downtown bar. Eyewitnesses state that Murphy got into a very loud argument with another bar patron after Murphy tried to strike up a conversation with the man's fiance. After several minutes of arguing, Murphy allegedly punched the man in the face.It was then that the 27 year old Murphy's CBI detail removed him from the bar, and left the premises.

A short time later, Memphis police say that they pulled a Davis Monitor with GCS Government plates. After a short confrontation between Memphis police and the CBI security detail, Murphy was arrested. "Mr. Murphy was identified as a suspect in a confrontation at a downtown bar on Saturday evening," said Memphis police spokesman Sgt. Rick Harrison. "He was arrested and booked, and posted bail shortly after." Sgt. Harrison refused to comment on whether or not it was Murphy's CBI security detail that posted his bail.

Stephen Murphy is a native of Louisiana who attended college and law school at Vanderbilt University. He currently works as an associate at the law firm of Haas and Associates in Memphis. While an undergraduate at Vanderbilt, Murphy was sited twice for underage drinking. During the 2011 presidential campaign, one of Murphy's fraternity brothers claimed to have a video of Stephen snorting cocaine. The claim drew harsh criticism from then-Governor Murphy.

"We respect the privacy of the president's children, and we will not be commenting on this incident," said presidential spokesperson Laura Dierson. Public intoxication and assault are both misdemeanors in Tennessee, and could lead to fines of up to $3,500, or a year in jail.

NC House Votes 114-2 To Impeach Gov. Edwards

Image

The North Carolina House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly this morning to impeach Gov. John Edwards. The House met in an unprecedented Sunday morning session to vote on 3 articles of impeachment accusing the governor of illegally funneling campaign contributions into a secret slush fund for his mistress. All three passed by a vote of 114-2. Three members voted "present," and one member did not vote. Edwards was said to be jogging in the neighborhood around the governor's mansion in Raleigh when the vote went down.

In a very brief statement, Governor Edwards accused the House of playing politics. "Today's action in the House, which is dominated by the right-wing, was not a surprise to me," Edwards said. "They were hell-bent on impeachment since day 1. I have no doubt that I will ultimately be vindicated in the Senate." While the House is led by the Democratic Party, Forty-seven members of the House's 52 member Liberal minority, members of Edwards' own party, joined the Democrats to vote for impeachment.

Rep. Pricey Harrison of Greensboro and Rep. Beverly Earle of Charlotte voted against impeachment. "I read the articles of impeachment," Harrison said. "In the end, I was just not comfortable voting against the governor. I'm not defending what he allegedly did. My gut feeling just told me to vote no." Beverly Earle refused to comment on her vote, and quickly departed from the House chamber after the vote.

The North Carolina Senate is currently working to draft rules for the trial, and the prevailing thought is that the trial could begin as early as October 29. However, there has been talk of a group of prominent state Liberals who plan to urge Governor Edwards to resign. Senate Minority Leader Martin Nesbit said that there is no truth to those rumors. "That is absolute hogwash," Nesbit said. "There are no plans to demand the governor's resignation. We will have a trial in the Senate, and the governor will be vindicated."

Former US President George McGovern Dead At 90

George McGovern, who served as president of the United States from 1977-1985. A spokesman for the family announced that the former president passed away early Sunday morning. McGovern came to power at a time when conservatism had dominated the American political landscape for nearly two decades. His defeat of President Barry Goldwater ushered in what is known as a "Liberal Renaissance" in the United States.

Under President McGovern , the United States saw the implementation of universal healthcare laws, and the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. However, other reforms pushed by the president, such as his universal college education plan, never made it out of Congress. He called the failure of that bill one of his biggest regrets.

Since leaving the White House, McGovern has worked with former 1980 presidential election opponent, Sen Bob Dole (C-KS) to eliminate world hunger. Their work led to the two men being the joint winners of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.

Speaking at a campaign event in Grand Rapids, MI United States President Paul Wellstone called McGovern "My personal hero." and went on to praise the former-president as one of the greatest leaders of the 20th Century. He declared a national day of mourning, and has ordered all flags to be flown at half-staff. The president's Constitution Party challenger, House Minority Leader John Kasich (C-OH), called the former president "A man who showed us that there was a difference between staunch ideological beliefs and bitter partisanship. Both camps have announced that they will suspend their campaigns on the day that the former president's funeral takes place.

In Richmond, President Murphy said that his thoughts and prayers were with the McGovern family today. "President McGovern was a great man who deserves the respect of every Confederate." Vice President Stephanie Pratt will be traveling to Washington, DC for the funeral.

Prominent NC Liberals Visit Governor's Mansion; Edwards To Speak To Press At 10AM Tomorrow

This evening, a group of prominent Liberal state politicians have called on Governor Edwards. Little is known of the meeting at the moment. At roughly 8:30pm, two cars pulled into the front driveway of the governor's mansion in Raleigh. Among the people seen to exit the vehicles were state Liberal Party Chairman Bev Perdue; former house speaker, now House Minority Leader, Joe Hackney; and Senate Minority Leader Martin Nesbit. That last name is important, because Senator Nesbit said yesterday that the idea of Liberal leaders demanding Edwards' resignation was "absolute hogwash."

That group left the mansion about 10 minutes ago. The cars sped out of the front gates, and the passengers did not stop to speak to reporters.Immediately after that, the governor's press spokesman, Andrew Young, came out here and announced that the governor will speak to the press tomorrow at 10AM. TMr. Young did not take any questions, and returned to the governor's mansion after the announcement. A DBC-Charlotte Observer poll indicates that 73% of North Carolinians think the governor should resign. That same poll indicates that 68% think that the governor will be convicted in the Senate. DBC will continue to monitor the situation here in Raleigh, and bring you the latest as it develops.

Edwards Resigns

Image

John Edwards has resigned as governor of North Carolina. The embattled governor resigned during a press conference on the front steps of the capitol building. "I maintain that my actions are not illegal," Edwards said. "However, the last several weeks have proven that I will be unable to fight for an agenda that helps the disadvantaged among us with the albatross of scandal around my neck. Therefore, I shall resign as governor, effective at midnight tonight." Lt. Governor Jack Marigold will serve out the remainder of Edwards' term.

The governor's resignation comes just days after the North Carolina House of Representatives voted to impeach him for using campaign money to fund a secret account for his mistress. By resigning, Edwards avoids a lengthy impeachment trial in the Senate. However, he could still face Federal charges for his alleged misdeeds. "This was the best thing for everyone involved," said state Liberal Party chair Bev Perdue. "We thank Mr. Edwards for his service to our state and her people, and offer him and his family our prayers."

Edwards was flanked by his wife Laura, and his children Wesley and Katherine. Laura Edwards made headlines soon after the scandal broke when she publicly moved out of the governor's mansion. She is currently living with Katherine, and her husband John Cheever. When asked by a reporter at the governor's press conference whether she had forgiven her husband, Mrs. Edwards only shook her head. Upon moving out of the governor's mansion, the former governor will return to his estate outside of Chapel Hill.

DBC Headlines At This Hour

--The ongoing saga of former North Carolina governor John Edwards continues. The Federal Attorney for North Carolina's Eastern District, Hamilton Debaucher, is hoping to prosecute Mr. Edwards for his alleged violations of GCS election laws. "The evidence is overwhelming that Mr. Edwards violated the laws of the Greater Confederate States of America," Debaucher said. "It is the duty of the Federal Attorney's office to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law." The former governor has been in seclusion on his Chapel Hill estate since resigning on October 25th. Phone calls to his home were unanswered.

--The State of Alabama is preparing to execute Robert Ray Doyle tonight. Doyle was convicted of the 1994 killing of 4 people and injuring 5 inside of a K&B Drugstore in Birmingham. Despite efforts by William Clinton of the Confederate Poverty Law Center, the GCS Court of Appeals turned down a motion to stay the execution. "I'm disappointed, but not surprised, by the ruling," Mr. Clinton said. "Our nation holds human rights in very low regard." However, Janet Simpson, a mother of one of Doyle's victims, took a differing view. "This man took my daughter away from me in the prime of her life. This monster's death will be far more humane than her's was." DBC will air the execution live, starting at Midnight tonight.

--President Murphy called to congratulate United States President Paul Wellstone on his reelection four days ago. Wellstone defeated Constitution Party challenger John Kasich 185 electoral votes to 145, respectively. "President Wellstone is a man of honor who is devoted to the peaceful coexistence of our two nations," President Murphy said. "I look forward to meeting at the White House next month to discuss matters important to both the GCSA and the USA."

--The number 1 college football team in the country, the Alabama Crimson Tide, will take on the South Carolina Gamecocks this evening. "This game will, no doubt, be a challenge," said South Carolina coach Dave Allen, "but I'm confident that our defense can get the necessary pressure on Alabama's quarterback." Crimson Tide quarterback Patrick Fryman has had an unbelievable season. So far, he's thrown 11 touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions. It is thought that he will be the number 1 pick in next year's GCFL draft.

**DEVELOPING**Three Deaths And Thirty-Five Injuries Confirmed In Athens, GA Explosion**DEVELOPING**

The situation in Athens, Georgia, where an explosion has gone off in the parking lot of Sanford Stadium, is changing rapidly. As of now, DBC can report that 3 people have been confirmed dead, and 35 people have been confirmed injured. The names of the dead and inured are not being released until the families have been notified. A small fire that resulted from the explosion is now being contained by the Athens Fire Department, and police are securing the scene.

Eyewitnesses on the scene believe that the explosion originated from a white panel van that was parked near the stadium. That could indicate a bomb. Of course, that is just speculation. Reports of a bomb are absolutely unconfirmed. Word from Richmond is that the president is being kept abreast of the situation, and that he will release a statement shortly.

Of course, the Georgia Vs Florida game that was set to kickoff in Athens at Noon is cancelled. The Dixie Collegiate Athletic Association has announced that they are deciding whether or not to cancel all college games that are scheduled to play today.

President Leaves For Atlanta Summit

Image

President Brian Murphy is leaving for Atlanta this morning to prepare for what he is calling a "North American Summit." The president hopes to use this summit as a moment to discuss mutual trade and defense issues that, he hopes, would be beneficial to all North Americans. "President Murphy believes that this summit has been long overdue," said press secretary Laura Dierson. "He hopes that this summit will lead to a new era of cooperation and friendship between the Confederate States and its neighbors."

Specific agenda items will be CFTA, the Continental Free Trade Agreement, which seeks to create a trade bloc among the several nations of North America. The president hopes that by eliminating barriers to trade between the nations of North America, CDTA can increase the GDP of all member nations.

The president also hopes to propose what he is calling the North American Mutual Defense Alliance.According to sources, the president envisions "NAMDA" as an intergovernmental military alliance, similar to the ones seen in Europe and the Pacific Rim, that would help to provide for the common defense of all nations on the North American continent.

While Congressional Liberals are calling the president's proposals "pie in the sky fantasies," the president's own party is praising the proposals and say that they are ready to fight for them on capitol hill. More importantly, the average Confederate supports the president's proposals, with nearly 61 percent of citizens saying that the proposed treaties are a step in the right direction.

The summit is set to kick off in Atlanta on Monday.

Newport News Shipbuilding today christened the Lawton Chiles (NCA 22) as the first ship of the next generation of aircraft carriers. "This ship is a perfect representation of the military might of the Confederate States," said CS Senator James "Buzzer" LeBrand (D-TX), who served as keynote speaker during the ceremony. "It will provide comfort and support to our allies when needed, and instill fear in the hearts of our adversaries when necessary," LeBrand continued. "That is why it is truly fitting that it will bear the name of our former president: The late Lawton Chiles.

Before the crowd of thousands, President Chiles' widow Rhea Chiles, smashed a bottle of sparkling wine across the bow to christen the ship. During her remarks, she spoke of her husband's service in the CS Military and his love for the Confederacy's soldiers and sailors. "There is absolutely nothing that can describe how proud Lawton was of our nation's military, and how much he appreciated the sacrifices of all of you," Mrs. Chiles said.

In the weeks and months following today's ceremony, the carrier will be launched into the James River and moved to a pier for outfitting and testing. The ship is scheduled to be delivered to the CS Navy in 2017.
