A NATION IN MOURNING
In the early hours of this morning Her Royal Ducal Majesty Edana I, Archduchess of Kingborough, died in hospital from a severe bleed triggered by the emergency caesarean on Sunday. While the Archduchess's only son Prince Cahan Carmichael survived the procedure successfully the birth has come at a cost, with the just twenty year old head of state dying four days later after doctors were unable to staunch her wounds.
Born Edana Mary Alexandria Ó Riain on the 12th of July 1986 to the then Crown Prince Iosac and his wife Countess Abaigeal of Stockstohlm, Edana was raised in the Peace Palace in Saint Charles where she attended the Roha Private Primary School and then later the Countess Le Rook Highschool. At the age of 18 she attended the Imperial College Ismalyr in Anemos Major, before graduating with an Undergraduate Degree in early 2012. After her graduation the Princess returned to Kingborough and quickly become a noted philanthropist and a "patron of the people" according to the media; On the 15th of September she became engaged to marry Prince Nicholas of Sovreignry.
Not long after her engagement she was key in the removal of the insane Prince Iosac II from the throne during a short revolution, and she took the throne and reformed Kingborough in a swift spat of changes that none can deny improved the country - among her achieves she was abolishing the state church, removing religious institutions from parliament, reorganising the duchies of Kingborough, acquiring the nation its first overseas colony and settling peace with Falsea over the Kingboroughian Civil War.
While in the last week of her life, the image of a saviour of the people took some battering with the revelation of massive fraud on the Archduchesses part that saw one of the countries biggest corporations collapse, the Archduchess can still be remembered as a person who did much good in her short time in this world.
The Office of the Royal Household has called a meeting with members of the royal family and of the government in response to the Archduchesses death, in order to settle her will swiftly and decide upon how to proceed with the assumption of the throne by her heir - while Prince Cahan is so young he will require a regent, who is by law the Captains Regent however the formal procedures will still need to be followed first.
We will bring you the latest news on this, with the Royal Household expected to release the details of her will to the public soon. It is not expected to bring any surprised however - the Archduchess is rumoured to have amended it just a day before she died and most analysts expect that she has just left the massive Ó Riain to her son Prince Cahan in its entirety with no surprises to come from the will.
At this time her funeral is scheduled for Sunday, with a hoard of international heads of state and government expected to descend upon the ceremonies.
