The Amerikan military is, perhaps, one of the least thought out, most irregular, and expensive militaries in the world. It is centered around ground forces, with sea and air as back up, and has a just-made space force. As well, it is composed of comparatively few soldiers, relying heavily on missile systems and weaponry to stop most threats to it's people, but geared with some of the best, newest, and frankly untested stuff the Hall of Unorthodox Science can throw out. This means, unlike the rest of the nation, soldiers are actually more wary of technology and tend to distrust it. This is evident as many of them have lost good friends and relations when one of their new pieces worked in an unexpected and deadly manner. The general set-up of the armed forces is as follows.
A. Ground
The Amerikan ground forces are centered around the use of two main sections: the Legions, and the Armored Division. Because New Amerik has taken it's battle experience from....World War 2, the Amerikan philosophy of war is "Lots of Infantry". This, coupled with some creative scientific inventions, have resulted in what general has called, "A shit-load of men and flashy trucks."
The Legions: The Legions are the standard Infantry of New Amerik, comprising of thousands upon thousands of men, women, and otherwise who all answer the call of war when their country and God requests it. The Legions are divided in a strict hierarchy, as well as chain of command, that makes defeating them a matter of cutting off the hydra's heads; kill off the leaders, and the rest will hunker down and wait for new orders. The Legions are divided as follows: there are ten soldiers in a single squad, nine normal men and woman led by one officer. These are labeled as Squad A, Squad B, and so on. However, the squads only go from A to E, because there are five squads in a single unit, arrayed as two normal Legionnaire squads, two normal Heavy Legionnaire squads, and a single Mortar Legionnaire squad. Units are named as Unit One, Unit Two, and so forth. There are therefore fifty soldiers in a single unit, and fifty units in a battle group. Each Battlegroup is named after a Greek letter- Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, and so fourth. Finally, there are five Battlegroups in a single Legion. Thus, each Legion is comprised of 12,500 soldiers. The Legions are named 1st, 2nd,and so forth. Thus, a soldier may be in the 3rd Legion, Battlegroup Delta, Unit Eighteen, Squad A.
Armored: The Armored core of the military holds a special place in Amerikan military strategy, for it is the domain of the wonderful tanks, armored vehicles, and artillery that enable New Amerik to unleash devastating attacks on it's enemies. Though surprisingly old in terms of general age, the designs, like all things, were good at what they did back in the days of WW2, and New Amerik is ever-constantly updating her blueprints when she can find new ones. Much of the Armored is actually centered around getting the Legions into the thick of things, with BAVs and artillery acting as support and the few native Amerikan tanks acting as a sadly under-appreciated line forwarder. However, it may surprise some nations that much of New Amerik's armored battalions come, in fact, from other countries.
B. Sea
Being, as we are, on the notoriously rough Imperial Shores, it would only make sense that New Amerik be equipped to cover the seas as well as the ground. Alas, unlike most modern nations, we have been forced to make due with older, less advanced ships and boats. It is thus that New Amerik naval crews do not rely so much on aircraft carriers and the like as they do on straight ship-to-ship combat, along with submarines to act as hidden killers.
Coast Guard: Some seem to forget that, humble as they may be, it is the Coast Guard that every day protects our waterways against such devious threats as pirates, enemy ships, and communists. The Coast guard is largely centered around the use of small ships to create an ever-moving web around the coastal areas, making sure no foreign ships get past our eyes unnoticed. Though not as heavily armed as the Naval forces are, and seeing less combat, they are still proud to serve the Living God and often take pleasure in going out to patrol each day.
Navy: Ahh, the navy. With titanium ships and steel men, New Amerik boasts an excellent flotilla of various ships that can easily take New Amerik's benevolent fist anywhere in the world. Though not as advanced as the Japanese watercraft or as humongous as the African People's Fleet ships, we have a respectable number that is not easily matched on Earth. Combat usage centers around the sturdy destroyers and submarines, sinking enemy ships or engaging in ship-ship combat, while lighter frigates guard the skies and the massive battleships are used as floating artillery platforms to blast anything witness an UnAmerikan hull. As for aircraft carriers......we have not found much use for them in battle, yet, but are confident one day we might need them.
C. Air
The aerial space above New Amerik is very important to us, being as it's yet another potential route invaders could take into our nation. The airspace above New Amerik is thus very well protected, by aeiral and ground reinforcements, and is watched at all times.
Air Core: The Air Core is New Amerik's premier line of defense in the skies, composed of a variety of fighters, helicopters, bombers, attack craft, and more, wilder variants. Flying free as birds in the sky, it stands supreme as the second-most highest (geographically) force the nation posesses. A jack of all trades and a master at some, they take pride in their solem duty to defend the skies.
D. Space
The Holy Technocracy currently is listed among those nations that have been able to break the bounds of universes/FTL travel, and thus is considered to have at least some force of space force. This is in actuality an embaressing subject for New Amerik, as space research is still relatively recent (the Earth had until 2030 been blockaded in effect by the Abrozi Hive Terraformer Fleet). Hoewver, the nation has been one of those on its planet to join in the burgeoning Space Race, and so has its own military section for such an area.
Kosmos: The Earth-based defence forces of New Amerik, the Kosmos is concerned with solar system activity and protection, especially with the Space Race underway. Nonethless, the Amerikan Kosmos does its best to covertly compete with the other nations of the world and to keep New Amerik safe in space. The Third World War was the first true test of the Kosmos, and only time will tell how they will in the future develop.
E. Mercenary/Foreign
New Amerik has, truly, much more than just a national military. There are those drawn to the nation not out of a desire to immigrate, but out of a desire to sell their services as mercenaries to the cause. Thus, the Holy Technocracy has a variety of unique, eccentric, and in some cases dangerous cadres of mercenaries to call upon when they should so need, and who's loyalty lasts as long as the money does.
