Advanced Warrior System(AWS)

Drackonisa's integrated infantry combat system designed to bring its soldier's into a 3g fighting force. With major advancements made in miniaturization of electronics components and portable power sources, the project was first started in 1998 and finished in stages with the first stage introduced in 2002. The AWS program was concluded in 2010, with the new batch of infantry receiving training in the use of the system and the remaining infantry units reequipped with the AWS. Its main purpose is to link and provide tactical units with networking capabilities and improve their efficiency and communications in combat.

The main features of the program are:
Advanced Infantry helmet with
-integral radio
-Visor mounted HUD
-removable gas mask
-integral water cooler
-GPS
-IFF transponder

Body Armor

Wrist mounted text messaging device
-portable keypad, designed for easy data input, also has hotkey buttons such "On-Contact" and "Call-For-Medic" to enable quick updates of the team's status to the command headquarters, and request assistance from nearby forces at the push of a button.

Helmet

Advanced Infantry Helmet

The new Advanced Infantry Helmet is designed to provide soldiers with all of the information they require to survive on a modern battlefield as well as offering protection from bludgeoning weapons, shrapnel and small arms fire.

Visor mounted HUD
One of the key features of the new infantry helmet, it can switch its displays from a digital map to satellite images of the terrain to videos captured by the various sensors. Through the HUD, soldiers can see locations of targets and friendly forces which are plotted on the digital map. Comes with Night vision integrated as well.

The HUD displays basic information, like body temperature, heart rate, blood pressure of the soldier and assists in monitoring the life signs of the squad members as well. Display is capable of being modified by individual soldiers to allow them customization of displayed info depending on what they require. Friendlies are marked clearly, based on information sent via their built in IFF transponders to prevent friendly fire incidents. When viewing other soldiers equipped with the system, further information such as rank, name and blood type that is keyed into their individual equipment is capable of being displayed to the user.

Combat Camera
Sends live feed images back to HQ and squad/platoon leaders, which may then be shared to the rest of the squad if necessary.

Integral water cooler
An important but often overlooked function, the integral water cooler is a system of cool water cycled through the body armor and helmet, drawn from a 2 litre water storage container in the backpack. Water can be sipped by the soldier in combat from a straw mounted near the side of the helmet. Designed to keep the soldier fighting in comfortable temperatures and reduce heat, the system is an essential part of the system.

IFF transponder
A small transponder that broadcasts a signal to others wearing the system. It identifies users as friendlies and helps prevent friendly fire incidents.

GPS
Global positioning system built into the helmet. Receives information about map topography and transmits soldier's position to the network.

Gas Mask
Due to the prevalence of chemical weapons utilized by Drackonisian forces, soldiers conduct training and normal activities with gas masks on as part of their training to acclimatize to it. The gas mask is a modular feature, and is capable of being removed when situations do not call for its use. Standard gas masks filter out gas and particulate matter, filters are easily changeable and extra filters are included in the armor system.

Hearing Protection and Voice Comm
Helmet has integrated hearing protection and with built in speakers, allowing infantrymen to filter out unneccessary ambient noise and listen to voice commands by their commanders in the field. A microphone is build into the helmet, allowing for easy voice communications by the squad. The voice comm system can be disabled by commanders to reduce chatter if necessary.

Body Armor

Postby Drackonisa » Sun Sep 25, 2011 4:16 am

The new AWS Body Armor is basically a slightly improved version of the current PASGT utilized by the Drackonisian Army. Consisting of armor protection on the shoulder, body, pelvis and knees, the armor is composed of 3 layers of protection.

The outer and inner layer is a Kevlar KM2 fiber weaved layer enhanced with polyethylene glycol mixed with silica sprayed on the kevlar in thin sheets with ceramic plates sandwiched in between. The utilization of shear thickening fluids reduces the layers of kevlar needed to achieve a similar level of protection and reduces the weight of the body armor. Small tubes carrying cooled water run along the inner layer of the suit, assisting in cooling down the infantry, connected to the straw in the helmet and helping with thirst and alleviating fatigue. The skeletal battle order(SBO) is worn on the outside with the Basic Combat Load which includes 2 water bottles, bayonet, toggle rope, entrenching tool, camouflage and the webbing and belt of the Skeletal Battle Order.

The armor is designed to provide protection against shrapnel and small arms fire and designed to defeat projectiles at close range barring high powered assault rifle rounds.

A removable wrist mounted keypad is provided as part of the armor, with its own personal battery. The portable keypad, designed for easy data input, also has hotkey buttons such "On-Contact" and "Call-For-Medic" to enable quick updates of the team's status to the command headquarters, and request assistance from nearby forces at the push of a button. Inclusive of the device is also instant text messaging, with the soldiers better able to communicate with each other via the device. Text chat is displayed on a small display on the corner of the helmet visor and capable of being disabled or minimized by the soldier if necessary.
