Erm, for those who've seen all three: are these positions right?

If I'm right, I found them in 14 seconds, I timed it.

Out of boredom I am looking for ways to make life in my military more awful. Anyone got ideas? I was personally thinking that since my military issues equipment with no regard to sex and doesn't allow personnel to purchase their own equipment I could issue single sex undergarments, probably favouring women since getting women to enlist is more important than getting men to enlist. Unless the average height in my country decreases by 7 inches over night.

What's the retirement plan and salary like?

Also college and healthcare benefits.

Those are the four biggest things for any armed forces member IRL.

Use a weapon similar to the SA80 with the cocking handle, but put it on the left hand side to make the military more attractive to the left-handed minority. Then no-one can use it right-handed without serious pain.

Well I still need some incentives for them to serve. I generally look for minor annoyances that add up over time. No smoking isn't bad, neither is no sex, or alcohol, or turrible food when alone, but when added together they start to make life slightly worse. In other words, I am looking more for minor discomforts.

'Cheap deal', 'Special offer' and 'Good price' shelter sheets (by that, I mean they leak reasonably easily).

Sounds good, but I would like the crippling discipline and bureaucracy to come into play more when it comes to these minor annoyances,

'Discount' shelter sheets = bureaucratic penny-pinching.

Can't supplement with their own = crippling discipline.

Maybe a ban on cursing, combined with all these minor annoyances, would further drive your boys and gals batty.

Make soldiers wear Cam-Cream when-ever they're on patrol, but not allow them to wear the camo in base: so if they're in an FOB in Afghanistan (e.g.) they've gotta put on some 'desert cam-cream', go on patrol, return, clean their weapons and remove all traces of it from their faces before they can be served by the canteen. That's time needlessly wasted.

Make soldiers clean their rifles twice daily, whatever they've done. That'd be a reasonably time-consuming and annoying activity: especially if you're just some signaller in the Ops room who hasn't even loaded it for the last week or two. (and this weapons cleaning is entirely mandatory and required in addition to cleaning it after patrols and stuff.

Battle ships aren't used much anymore, so it's strange you have more of them than destroyers. I'd say that's overly large for your size. It seems bigger than the US navy, which is for a country bigger in size than yours.

Meh, my bureaucratic problems generally seem to just be the fact that we need to have everything documented or standardized. Wanna shoot off some fireworks? Need a license (documentation). The military cannot afford to supply different equipment to men and women (they actually can) so in addition to male condoms men are issued tampons and female condoms, while females are issued male condoms in addition to tampons and female condoms. On the bright side, on the very few occasions when soldiers have sex with each other they have double the protection.

Also since the officers already have significant power (hell they can execute their soldiers on the spot with no immediate consequences if they are in combat not that most would) perhaps soldiers are only allowed to speak when they should be asleep, when they are on leave, and during a small free time during the day. Every other time of the day they have to request an officer for permission to speak. May may not be the most followed rule, but it still would be annoying when a very traditionalist or disciplinarian officer punishes recruits for talking.

How could I justify such a retarded level of discipline? I have been thinking of having my early military based off of crusaders, but slightly more idealistic (yes, believe it or not, I am making something in my nation less grimdark than real life). This carries over through the generations from the soldiers simply trying to avoid being too evil, to extreme levels of discipline.

Or not, multiple protection pieces (or whatever) can often result in them breaking, meaning that the Irish joke is now redundant.

Make it an executable offense to have tramlines on parade.

Just have a butchers at Wikipedia: find a nation you want to be similar to in terms of population size and militarism, then look up the 'equipment of countryland's navy' page. That generally lists all types of vessel, by category, type and quantity.

Kouralia. Do you think having two fleets like the Russian Navy's Baltic Fleet, and Northern Fleet would be fine with my population?

Sure, quite a few nations operate distinctly seperate fleets. Just make sure they aren't overly large.

Lack of AC is a good way to annoy someone. No heating could actually get you killed, though. It's a lot easier to freeze than it is to die from heat, tbh.

So let them sleep in their combat gear.
If there is anything more annoying than the cold, it's a smelly uniform.
Besides, they are indoors so their body heat will keep the barracks somewhat warm.

Barracks buildings aren't usually insulated unless they're a permanent structure.

Otherwise they are plywood walls with dividers.

So their body heat goes out their body and outside, and sleeping in your uniform can cause fungal infection and skin disease tbh.

Okay, I didn't realize how well HE worked against tanks besides taking out optics. Can anyone answer another question for me. I really need more area AAW for my navy. I want some kind of Guided Missile Destroyer so I don't end up having to send a Slava or Kirov into a situation where such a large and expensive platform isn't needed. Right now I'm thinking of taking the Chinese Type 051C Destroyer and swapping out some weapon systems to preserve commonality. How hard would it be to replace the Chinese CIWS with Kashtan modules or even the AK-630M?

I'm of course talking about permanent barracks. Not giving your soldiers proper heating or insulation in a plywood hut in a -10° enviroment is stupid to say the least.

What would you say is the smallest object I could fit a head up display on? Could I put one on a pair of goggles? If so, how much info could I cram into it? I'm mainly looking into NAVpoints and the ability to see friendly and hostile troops. Kind of like what the Land Warrior system was going for but executed in a feasible manor.

Never mind. Just found these beauties.

I'm sure its been mentioend before but issuing condom tampons and pads to everyone would in many militaries be a psotiive thing for thsoe troops with an adaptable mindset as they all have several very important alternative uses.

Weapons cleaning is a potential gold mine for things troops hate as this thread of tanknet illustrates:

I woudl avoid ud=nder wear as in many cases both sexes can wear each others with a surpising amount of comfort. You would have to come up with soem truely hideous mismatch compromise design for thsi to be an issue and IMHO the style of your military is really suited to the issuing of blast boxers. if you want to go with hideous unisex underwear you'll need to go with truely hideous unisex combat trousers to complement them with issues possibly focusing on lack of flies or an over abundance of access zippers i.e. not so mucha fly but a front to back crotch zip plus leg zips.
