A message from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

The government of the Third Seiglian Republic would like to ask the opinion of the International community of the candidates and parties vying for control of our fair republic. There are currently ten parliamentary parties, and their positions and ideologies are listed below. Please comment on this list, and take the poll. The current incumbent is Christian Democratic Party leader, Prime Minister François Courcelle.

Note: This has no bearing on our election, as only Seiglian citizens may vote. This is but an opinion poll.

Political Landscape
The current economic situation is dire. There is a wide gap between the rich and poor(with many more of the latter), businesses are corrupt and overbearing, and human rights abuses are numerous. The government widely takes a blind eye to hate crimes, especially against homosexuals.

Ideologies: Laissez-Faire economics, Christian Democracy, Neoliberalism, Social conservatism.

Notes:
Has been in power since 2003, and was largely supportive of the US's Invasion of Iraq.

Founded: 1969
Fiscal Position: Left, Center Left
Social Position: Left
Ideologies: Democratic Socialism, Social Democracy, and a blend of Socialism and Kemalist economic ideas followed by Monsieur Beaumont.
Seats as of last election: 78
Notes:
Was born as a combination of the Social Democratic, United Workers' and Unionized Parties. Has been the largest left wing opposition party since 2003.

Founded: 1977

Social Position: Center-Left
Ideologies: Third Way, Keynesian Economics, Social liberalism

Notes:
Created by a merge between the Centre Party and the Republican Left, the main party of the Seiglian Center Left in the 90s and early 2000s, moved to the center during the Carolos Lussier's 1999 cabinet.

Founded: 1936
Fiscal Position: Center-Right
Social Position: Center-Right
Ideologies: Social conservatism, Gaullism, Orleanism(historical).

Notes:
The ideological successor to the First Republic's Monarchist Party, the Conservatives were by far the most powerful party of the Second Republic, and controlled the parliament for one term from 1955 to 1959.

Founded: 1981
Fiscal Position: Right
Social Position: Center-Right
Ideologies: Classical Liberalism, Nationalism, Economic Libertarianism.

Notes:
Has it's roots in the Liberal Party. The Liberal Party was the major left wing party of the late fifties and early sixities, until it was brought to the right by PM Royce Gareau. It lost almost one hundred seats to the Christian Democrats in 1979, forcing it to merge with the libertarian "Liberty Party."
