Between the removal of the monarchy in 1911 and the coup of 1936, an economic boom until the early 1920s slowly decayed into an implosion of the economy by 1934. This led many dissatisfied, angry people to rise up against the government and install the leader of the Communist Party as leader of Thurask. After the coup, standard of living slowly rose, plateaued in the 1950s and fell dramatically in the early 1960s. It rose much faster by the mid 1970s and reached its peak in 1986, but the death of the old Supreme Leader and his replacement by his son led to a worthless economy until his overthrow and execution in 2010. The first Five-Year Plan of 2011-2016 is meant to restore economic power to its mid 1980s peak.

No, No, nothing in the plan about a Massive Crash

After the Cybertronian Revolutionary War, the planet faced trade embargoes and blockades from all the nearby organic planets. Since Cybertron itself doesn't have any natural resources, this, needless to say, plunged our world into economic devastation. Since we relied on oil for fuel rather than the kind of food you can grow, it also threatened our very existence.

The Decepticon solution was simple: RAIDING. We ran the blockade and raided those obstinate worlds to the max. This became the national policy for resource acquisition. Once we began that policy, our economy was cruising along well again in no time.

Now we raid on a routine basis, and if the economy starts doing badly, we simply raid even more! Even though we now have developed ways to make Energon out of non-petroleum base materials, oil raiding remains our great economic driver. With so many planets in the universe, we expect that we'll never run out of places to raid.
