Imperial Kanthan News Reports:

"The Jade Palace has confirmed that the Emperor was airlifted from the Longhai Palace to the North Kai General Hospital early this morning. One Army medical helicopter flanked by two police helicopters flew out of the Palace at around 1:30 AM Standard Kanthan Time. Jade Palace spokesperson Eugene Nakamura says the Emperor had suffered a minor stroke and is apparently in stable condition. He refused to comment any further. It is currently unclear if the Crown Prince had gone to the hospital to see the Emperor at this time. We'll have more as the situation progresses."

There is already a long-going and active thread for this. Perhaps you should post your story there. ;)

(OOC: Instead of posting new thread, you should have a look and post the news here; unless you want it for your private national news.)

Imperial Kanthan News Reports:

Independent news agencies have reported that the Emperor has been placed in an intensive care unit at the Royal Kanthan Hospital in downtown Kai. "The Emperor is being treated for brain injury and so far his condition remains stable," a doctor said on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the matter. It has been impossible to verify whether or not these reports are true but security has been heavy around the hospital and nearby areas. IKN's Chang Xin reports that plainclothes police blocked her from entering the ICU because the section was reportedly sealed off.

The Emperor was airlifted to the North Kai General Hospital from the Longhai Palace early Tuesday morning after a minor stroke. The Palace has so far refused to comment on the Emperor's condition. The Emperor delegated much of his powers to the Crown Prince early this year and has been living in retirement at the Longhai Palace since suffering a major stroke in March. We'll have more on this story when we return.

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE:

It has just been reported that Emperor Han, ruler of Greater Kantha for 42 years, has died in the hospital. The Palace confirmed this and says the Emperor's body is being airlifted back to the palace for the funeral ceremonies. The late Emperor has been in bad health since early this year and has been in retirement since March. On Tuesday morning the Emperor was hospitalized for a minor stroke and that apparently took a turn for the worst. We'll have more on the situation as we are updated.

Covert Operations and Wiretaps Revealed

Postby Greater Kantha » Fri May 20, 2011 10:03 am

Central Kanthan News Reports:

Li Ching Guo, a 24 year old Haotian college student studying at Jindu University, was arrested for no reason after being pulled over by police for a traffic violation. Fujiwara Robert, Mr. Li's attorney said to CKN that he was not allowed to meet his client and that his client has been denied his most basic rights. Mr. Li is currently being held at the Taijin Imperial Prison about 75 kilometers west of Kai.

"Mr. Li is being held in detention against his will without a formal charge," Mr. Fujiwara said. "I am deeply disturbed by the violation of his basic rights guaranteed by the Constitution."

Mr. Li's family and friends staged a protest outside the facility, which was quickly dispersed by the guards. This event, however, caused many others of Haotian descent to speak out against abuse and operations carried out by the Imperial Intelligence Agency.

Phong My Hoa, a 19 year old Haotian transfer student studying at New Kai University, said she found herself being followed by men driving a black SUV. She told CKN that there are men outside her house day and night. Fang Cheng, a 33 year old chemical engineer, said last week he found a tracking device underneath his car. A Haotian immigrant, who asked us not to name him, said he was taken to the police station for no reason and interrogated for hours before being set free.

Rights advocate groups are protesting the treatment of Haotians and those of Haotian descent. "This is absolutely disgusting," Robert Lee, President of the Human Rights for All group. "I know we are in a state of war but this is a clear attempt to single out a ethnic group and prosecute them. Its illegal under the Constitution and its immoral. The government is no better than the Nazis."

Angel Li is a advocate for the Refugees' Freedom Association. "These Haotian refugees are fleeing the disaster thats plaguing their land. They suffered greatly and we should be helping them, not prosecuting them."

Some are complaining that the Imperial Intelligence Agency is overstepping its powers in a clear violation of human rights. Several lawmakers of the Reform Party are attempting to push legislation through the Senate to curb the powers of the IIA and bring the matter under control. "The IIA has been powerful and dodging the law for too long," said Senator Fuse Yokino (R-33rd). "They need to be investigated for humans rights abuse and violating the Constitution."

The bill, however, would be doomed to fail. Although the Reform party holds a majority in the Senate, the party is split on the issue. Moderate and conservative members are staunchly opposed and the Imperial Party is threatening to filibuster the bill. With his emergency powers, the Emperor can easily veto the bill.

Others are taking the matters to court. Mr. Li's family is now suing the IIA and the Jindu Police Authority. Many others are pressing cases as well. Meanwhile, rights advocate groups are planning a rally in downtown Kai despite a ban on public rallies after the start of the war and heavy police presence.

"We are ready to fight for our cause," Mr. Lee said. "They can try to stop us but we will still fight."
