Don't be so sure. Here in Texas most young people are inclined towards conservatism. I personally have always been repulsed by liberalism, even to a greater extent than most.

Really? Because the only demographic Obama won in Texas was the young vote.

For a final reason. America has a seriously distorted sense of left-right in comparison to Europe.

America's politics is heaps rightist compared to the rest of the world. Probably something to do with the Cold War and all those Christians...

There are more Liberal Christians in America than most Europeans think. Majority of Americans are Christians, and also don't take Rush Limbaugh seriously.

What does religion have to do with political beliefs? I'd encourage you to read the US Constitution, specifically the separation of Church and State.

So you're saying that religious people are stupid. Yeah, that's nice...

Well you gotta admit, worshiping a King that will send you to burn for all of eternity if you touch yourself is pretty anti-freedom.

I fear a sudden Religious Spark that will set the powder keg NSG ablaze...

Well my point is, the upper right quadrant of the political compass is pretty empty on NSG. And this is because the upper right is typically the religous crowd. They are the ones that are typically for relative free markets and strongly authoritarian government.

One of my friends is a living contradiction to that. Please, stop the stereotyping, don't be a Palin.

Not the same. First, there's no such thing as neo-Socialist. Second, neo-liberal is not neo-socialist. One is moronic, like Clinton. There other is linked with FDR, who helped win World War II, and helped make the US the leader, until LBJ the idiot invaded Vietnam. FDR (partially Socialist) made America strong. Clinton (neoliberal) smoked but didn't inhale. There is a difference.

Really, the only group around here that I can see that's nearly completely pervasive is hard atheists. Not too many religious, or even spiritually-minded folks, and the majority of those that are are idiots. Quite sad.

Thank you for the compliment :D

Scary thing is, some religious people might be reading this, and seeing all the generalizations that a miserable few non-religious people are making, and going "Rush Limbaugh was right about Atheists!" If you don't have something nice to say, and it is not entirely relevant to the thread, don't say it at all.

Why is there this moronic assumption that Christians cannot be Socialists?

What's with this horrible, common, stereotype that those who are not liberal are not educated or intelligent? To be honest, I see more prejudices from the left on NS more than the right as it seems that those in the left rarely can see when they are acting closed minded; they just presume that because they are liberal in thought, they are automatically open minded...even when making assumptions, insults, and being closed minded to conservative thoughts.

That and how many bash religion, while seeing themselves better for it, is another thing that greatly annoys me of NS.

I think its not quite as bad as it was, but I'd guess the nature of the game probably attracts naive idealists for whatever reasons.

If you're only using corporate software - you're missing out. Additionally, you don't need to buy a corporate made computer, you can buy parts and make one yourself, that's cheaper, and designed to your needs. Most people hear about NS from friends.

Additionally, corporations aren't evil because they provide services. Some are evil because they choke competition, which is essential to a free marketplace of ideas. Speaking of browsers, you might want to check out the shit that Microsoft tried pulling with Internet Explorer, a browser I proudly don't use.

If I'm not mistaken, a hard atheist is someone whom actively believes that there is no God or gods.

A soft atheist, on the other hand, is simply a person who lacks a belief in God or gods.

It's an active vs. passive distinction and it actually does play itself out in different ways depending upon whom you are talking to.

Okay.
I'm more accustomed to "strong vs. weak" or "explicit vs. implicit" or "gnostic vs. agnostic", but I guess that works...
Other than when connected to the "nearly completely pervasive" portion of his comment as most of the atheists here are weak/implicit/agnostic...

That doesn't make any sense, because conservatives like driving home from work on public roads or using public mass transit, enjoying their homes which haven't burned down thanks in large part to the public fire department, sitting down at the computer that hasn't been stolen thanks in large part to the presence of the public-funded police department, opening up a can of soda that is free from horrible contaminants thanks to the watch-dog efforts of the FDA, possibly taking some non-contaminated aspirin that was likewise regulated (cause the drive home can sometimes give you a headache, you know), powering up their computer using electricity provided by a public utility, and logging on to post about how they don't like having to pay their taxes to the ebil government. So why wouldn't we have equal numbers of conservatives?
