I’d say it’s a shame but then I’d be a lair.

The real shame was the lack of justice.

The prosecutor did a lousy job and let the all star defense dictate the trial.

I really can't fathom how he was considered "liable" for a murder of which he was acquitted.

Free will exists.

The jury didn't have to vote the way they did.

Free will doesn't exist but that's a debate for a philosophy thread.

You can look at it one of two ways, or both.

A) The LAPD was so outrageously racist that the notion of them conspiring to frame OJ wasn't beyond the realm of possibility.

B) The jury didn't believe there was a conspiracy but did think the LAPD deserved to be taken down a peg.

I'd say it's about 20% A and 80% B.

Civil lawsuits don't demand proof beyond a reasonable doubt, only a preponderance of evidence.

It's actually quite similar to the Bill Cosby situation. The prosecutor believed it was unlikely they'd get a conviction, so they promised Cosby immunity so that he wouldn't wield his right against self-incrimination in a civil suit. His victims sued and got quite a lot of money from him, but then the prosecutor's successor decided to prosecute him anyway which was blatantly unconstitutional.

Cosby was guilty but constitutionally speaking, overturning his conviction was the right thing to do.

As for OJ, a jury certainly could have been convinced in a criminal trial in the first place that he was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, but the jury they ended up with acquitted him.

An acquittal in criminal court though doesn't exonerate you in civil court. An acquittal just means the state didn't prove its case.

A death of a person is always unfortunate. It's a shame someone named after such a delicious drink made some atrocious choices.

I hope he made peace with the higher power and we don't know if he was guilty or not but remember we're all humans and I'm not defending him but we need to realize that everything happens for a reason and I hope Nicole Simpson is resting in peace.

Point of information: Yes, well, OJ wrote it but never published it. The father of Ronald Goldman, the other victim, bought the rights after Simpson went bankrupt. He added some information about his son and published it himself. The cover had the word "If" in small letters and the rest in large ones.

Sorry for not clarifying. Dunno why I didn't, I knew that info.

As a Football player, he could be admired and beloved. A great talent on the field. Off the field, he was reviled for obvious reasons. I can only hope that he found peace with God.

Criminal and civil responsibility require different standards of evidence.

It is funny in a morbid sense how his legacy has been ruined by that. Anything he did, anything he was doing and anything he could have done was completely overshadowed by his trial.

Regardless, I'm not exactly shedding any tears.

It's OJ's fault alright. He premeditated the murder and killed them.
The DNA evidence stated there was only a 1 in 600 million chance it wasn't Simpson's DNA. US pop in 1995 = 267 million people.

But the stupid jury did not understand the significance of that information. The DNA evidence was the smoking gun. The prosecution failed at making that clear and lost it's case.
