I will admit that the whole issue of punishing pedophiles - and continuing to punish them after they have served the mandated term for their offense - is very difficult for me to reconcile in my mind. Some pedophiles have done horrific things and should be punished harshly. I think imprisonment for the term of one's natural life is pretty harsh, given the usual fate of such people in prison. I do, however, think some can be rehabilitated and so should not be thrown away out of hand for one offense. Subsequent convictions should trigger an ascending scale of punishment.
