Listen Here, Bud - America Deserved Pearl Harbor

Postby Allet Klar Chefs » Wed Dec 07, 2016 6:42 am

December 7th, a day that will live forever in infamy. And it's 75 today! Happy birthday.

But there are some thing about the attack on Pearl Harbor that are scarcely discussed - do you think, for instance, that the US blockade on Japanese strategic imports to some extent created this crisis? Did the superior martial achievements of communist Russia in fighting off Japan make it inevitable that the slovenly colonial powers of the time would be attacked? And would the Americans have helped the Europeans if the Japanese had stuck to fighting over British, French, and Dutch colonial territories?

Going to war with a more powerful country is generally a bad idea. The sneak attack was probably the best chance a country like Japan had to inflict some damage in a country that outclassed it on various levels. Doesn't make that best chance a good idea, mind you. At the same time, the American embargo/freezing of Japanese assets, and generally causing issues for Japanese trade/imports, necessitating that Japan turn to areas like Southeast Asia for resources via conquest, wasn't a good idea, either.

Well that's silly, isn't it?
