36 dead so far at Ghost Ship Warehouse Rave

Postby Gig em Aggies » Sat Dec 03, 2016 1:23 pm

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/9-killed-in-oakland-warehouse-fire-dozens-more-feared-dead/ar-AAl6lRL?li=BBnb7Kz

Saw this on the news last night and early this morning authorities expect that the death toll at a warehouse fire where a rave was taking place in Oakland, California to be as high as 40 but 9 people are confirmed dead right now. There still shifting through the structure but are cautious as the structural integrity may have been jeopardized due to the fire no word yet on the cause of the blaze.

When I heard about this I didn't expect to have anyone dying but to have possibly up to 40 people dead from this its just to much sometime. I mean going to a rave and having fun then next thing your fighting for your life inside of a building fire. This reminds me ofthe Coconut Grove fire that killed 492 people in Boston back in November of 1942.

So what do you people think?

It's things like this that are the reason I don't go to raves. Call me paranoid, but dying in a freak rave fire isn't high on my to-do list.

But in all seriousness, these raves have to buck up on their safety standards, so stuff like this doesn't happen at all.

Well, if I had to guess, it was a shitty ass warehouse. It's a tragedy, but all that can be done is hope they pick safer places to have a rave, which isn't really possible

My condolences to the victims and their families.

Here's hoping the organizers of any future raves aren't so raving mad that they would put others lives in jeopardy.

It may be up to 40
Only 9 have been confirmed dead.

Nevertheless, I hope the death toll wasn't that high and that the families of the dead are comforted.

Is it possible some people were trampled in the inevitable panic and mad rush for the exits when the fire became obvious?

So they have a rave in a dilapidated warehouse filled with old furniture and knick-knacks, built a probably illegal "fire escape" out of wooden pallets and then seem surprised when a fire breaks out and the death toll could be in the dozens?

Not to be insensitive but seriously, shit like this makes me wonder how people cannot see something like this coming. Does the Bay Area not have building inspectors or something?

http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-m ... story.html

It was inspected and found to have three code violations, plus heaps of rubbish about. No fire safety items within the entire warehouse. Yet, people were LIVING there, when the building obviously wasn't suitable for people to be in. They had the party without any kind of permit or consent. The 'way out' consisted of some packing crates.

This was a disaster ready to happen.

It wasn't a place with homeless residents, it was an "art collective". So they were using it for, essentially, residential purposes, which the building isn't for.

According to this Guardian article, this is what they define an "art collective" is:

The building was an art collective with living space, he said. “It’s a location where young people come, aspiring artists, they meet, they socialize, they network.”

Doesn't sound like a bunch of homeless to me, just people doing illegal things in an unsafe building.

It's not a homeless camp. Not everyone that would have been at the place at the time of the fire lives there.

Well the death toll has risen to 24 with 80% of the building yet to be searched.
It's still well under 40, but probably not for long. I'm my opinion I'm thinking that the death toll will rise to 100

That's really sad, I hope that will never happen again.

Hopefully people won't use this to demand more entitlements that they don't deserve.
