Elephants have been fighting back against humanity for a while actually, and they're losing pretty badly. But they know what they're doing. They aren't dumb animals. In Africa and India they sometimes cause quite a few deaths when they go on a revenge rampage. They'll lose a herd member and decide to go attack a human village.

I wouldn't call this a freak accident. The elephant probably knew it was trying to injure or kill the girl.

How big was the rock supposed to be? There is just no way that someone would die from being hit with a rock unless the elephant could chuck it as fast as a damn baseball pitcher or the rock was large enough.

Elephants are intelligent and social which means that will play with objects around it - which I assume it was doing in this case. I doubt it actually aimed the rock at the girls head (I could be wrong )

Its probably a good reminded that good clear space needs to be maintained between domestic humans and wild animals but it does seem a tragic freak accident that noone could have foreseen

It's just sad that zoo's are allowed to have intelligent animals like elephants kept inside 4 walls.

Erm, what? You know that rocks can crack bones, right? And that they have been used as lethal, hand-thrown projectiles since the dawn of man?

Umm...do elephants normally behave like this? I mean I have to wonder if the girl or perhaps more likely others were doi something to piss off the elephant. Tragic but it seems weird that if this elephant normally believes this way no one at the zoo thought to do something to protect the public. If it didn't normally behave this way, then it seems weird it would just start chucking rocks one day.
