They are petitioning congress eventually if they can. Legally yes. There is something called convention of the states. A member of a California federal delegation would call for an ammendment, if the ammendment passed (approved by house and senate) then it would require consemt of the states. 2/3 required for the consent of the states.

You need the proposed amendment to be passed by 2/3 of each house of Congress and then 3/4 of the states have to ratify, 38 of 50. Of course, if you manage to get a convention called, the rules may be different but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

That's not at all a strawman lol. You're implying that without California the US would be a theocracy, which is plain loony at best, and horrendously conceited at worst.

No I'm not. I suggest you try actually reading my post, or try not extrapolating ludicrous conclusions from my statements.

It would be wonderful if they would leave, but it won't happen. It's largely a joke like the Texas independence movements.

Aside from the fact that Cali could never make it on its own, congress would never allow it because it would set a dangerous precedent.

Perhaps we can have another war over it though. . .

Hehe. It was kind of obvious. "Fools Gold State" was pretty clever.

We keep on petitioning just like Catalonia. Their "inevitable" disagreement doesn't mean we cannot all agree within our territory that we should.

Because they (for whatever reason) think this will improve the life of californians, even though
1. The US government would never allow it
2. Their status as a little tiny ant next to a superpower would result in no practical change
3. They would lose all the benefits the US government provides.

The protection and negotiating weight of being in the US for one access to resources from other countries and benefiting from US trade deals, and so on and so forth.

Oh, because they're sick of California looking down on everyone else (referring to the earlier comment about California protecting against a rampaging religious right) and are able to understand that the greatness of the US is that its a Union, for example, New York is the worlds strongest city economically, but you dont see them talking about secession an all that.

It boils down to "Get off your high horse California"

I have given everybody the jist of what they believe, now I am asking you to do your part. You dont have to read it, much appreciated though.

Keep talking.
