when a minor wants to get a tattoo and the law is that they have to have parental permission no harm is done by denying it. they can get their tattoo as soon as they turn 18.

but when it comes to abortion its now or never. it cant wait until the minor becomes a legal adult.

The problem being, of course, that we are simultaneously arguing that the minor may have to act like an adult (have a child), and that they can't be considered an adult (parental permission requirement).

yeah.

its not an easy issue but like SAT said its sick to force your kid to have a baby.

I agree. Personally, I think if a minor is being forced to carry a pregnancy, that - in itself - constitutes an abuse that should strip the parents of the ability to choose for them.

I was just hearing on msnbc that the only justice who would have upheld the law as-is was Clarence Thomas. the other 2 dissenters would have liked to have returned it to the lower court for some kind of review of ....something.

so its squashed squashed. I hope it doesn't take long to push this ruling to the other states who have passed these trap laws.

Pro-life is pro-slavery. It doesn't take much thought to realise that slavery is wrong.

Somberly Pro-Choice.
It is an ugly thing that wouldn't be needed in an ideal world, but here and now, it needs to be managed and done professionally instead of either being done underground and risking the woman's life, or creating humans doomed to suffer heavily be it by a lack of money and/or parental love.

Even in the most ideal world, it'd still be needed. After all, not even the most ideal world creates unwanted pregnancy, especially considering recreational sex would likely still be a thing.

What they wanted was to force a tie, which would mean that the lower court decision would be upheld. Which would mean that Texas would still have its abortion laws.

Great to hear about the outcome of the court case. I remember my government teacher thinking it would end in deadlock, doubtlessly he is pleased as well.

This 5-3 ruling is surprising and makes me happy. It means the Supreme Court will still function, sort of, without a ninth member. It's kind of scary that it could end up tied in the future, though. Also, you guys have to remember, since being a Justice is like a for-life position, some of those Justices were probably the same ones who did Roe v. Wade and all that.

Surprisingly enough not a single one of those justices are left. The last one left office in 2005.

Really? I would've thought they stayed. Huh. I was going to say that they didn't back down then and they won't now, but nevermind.

Guess the new Justices actually know what they're doing. Well, five of them, anyways.

I wasn't surprised. justice kennedy is rationally pro-life and has shown in the past an unwillingness to allow unreasonable burdens to abortion access.

Well he is considered to be the libertarian Justice on the court. He's moderately socially left and right wing economically
