Mokastana: Then Lyras happened.
Allanea: Wanting to avoid fighting Lyras' fuck-huge military is also a reasonable IC consideration
TPF: Who is stupid enough to attack a Lyran convoy?
Sumer: Honestly, I'd rather face Doom's military with Doom having a 3-1 advantage over me, than take a 1-1 fight with a well-supplied Lyran tank unit.
Kinsgard: RL Lyras is like a real life video game character.
Ieperithem: Eighty four. Eighty four percent of their terrifyingly massive GDP goes directly into their military. And they actually know how to manage it. It's safe to say there isn't a single nation that could feasibly stand against them if they wanted it to die.
Yikes. Just... Yikes.

I dunno, people like this have been around as long as I can remember, and I remember the founding of General (that's a lie, I couldn't tell you when it was made, but I know I was there).
That should tell you something about General. That's where a lot of the screaming comes from.

Am I looking for innocence that was never there?

Maybe dragons took their jobs. Maybe unicorns only hid their jobs because unicorns are dicks. Maybe 'jobs' is only an illusion created by a drug addled infant pachyderm. Fuck dude, if we're in 'maybe' land, don't hold back.

So General wasn't one of the original forums on this board?

Out of curiosity, did the forums use the same software (phpBB) back then?

The original-original forum before the move to Jolt was phpBB... I want to say 2? Pretty sure it was phpBB2. The original Eternal Thread alone damned near choked it to death before we had to cull it in the ongoing triage efforts to keep the forum hobbling along until the move to Jolt.

CVT Temp wrote:I mean, we can actually create a mathematical definition for evolution in terms of the evolutionary algorithm and then write code to deal with abstract instances of evolution, which basically equates to mathematical proof that evolution works. All that remains is to show that biological systems replicate in such a way as to satisfy the minimal criteria required for evolution to apply to them, something which has already been adequately shown time and again. At this point, we've pretty much proven that not only can evolution happen, it pretty much must happen since it's basically impossible to prevent it from happening.

If there ever was this hypothetical period of non-controversy, it died screaming real fast. It must not have been pretty.

So that was why there was no chat thread on NSG until very recently?
