I think his stated reasoning for even potentially buying the items you reference (more comfort, more accomodating, easier aiming) are rather far from sole 'fantasy fulfillment'. I mean, seems to me like that would be restricted to the folks with the underslung chainsaws or such.

And those things only really exist for the novelty of the idea. They aren't widely owned, nor likely to ever be abused. Even if they are purchased for the fantastical thrill, what possible harm does it do?

Exactly, I don't someone is going to build this assault rifle with laser sights and extended mags or whatever else, to go mug someone. Most criminals just use whatever they can get their hands on, and adding shit like just makes it more expensive and easier to track

I don't think you know when appeals to authority apply. You aren't fit to inspect someone's mental status and decide if they can own a gun. Unless you've met the person and done a medical examination, it's impossible to know.

The motivation behind buying these items has nothing to do with fantasy and everything to do with their being the best tools for the task at hand, which is to enhance the rifle's effectiveness at shooting downrange. Ascribing motivations to me or gun owners as a whole, which I can't tell which you mean specifically, just highlights your ignorance on both the items in question and the entire culture of firearms owners. The overwhelming majority are reasoned, level-headed people with a love for the sport and the tools involved. Even if buying an attachment because it "looked cool" was a real motivation, it still hurts nobody, as these weapons are hardly ever used in crime compared to stock handguns.
Your first resort was to attribute the views of others to ignorance, so I insulted you in turn. You are an arrogant and stupid man who too readily assumes people who disagree with him to be less educated or mentally inferior, which demonstrates your own lack of perspective and lack of intelligence.

You shouldn't be allowed to have any weapon at all, including an automobile, because your own arrogance makes you a danger to yourself and others.

Listen to the viewpoints of others, and understand why they hold those views. Understand why they do the things that they do. Then, you will be fit to be seen in public.

The views you described were ignorant. That didn't mean you,the person, are an inherently ignorant person. That's a hell of a logical leap. Of course, passing immediate judgement on me as a result of poor reading comprehension is also a pretty big leap in logical reasoning, so I shouldn't be surprised.

I have listened to this viewpoint. I've listened to it for nearly a decade. The fact is that these arguments are, most often, the result of a misattribution of intent and a lack of familiarity with the hobby.

Fortunately for the rest of the world, you are not the arbiter of what is and is not acceptable behavior for the privilege of going out in public.

Not true. You can still collect them. :)

Alright, I'll concede that there would still be some use, for some firearms owners. But for those that use their firearms to hunt, target shoot, or for self/home defense, they would be rendered useless by an ammo ban.

I wish we had had better gun control in place prior to nutty Scotsmen shooting up schools and ruining handgun fun for the rest of us. Good regulation prior to massacres helps prevent overstepping kneejerk regulation

It really doesn't challenge my viewpoint, because he doesn't understand how easy it is to "roll your own" ammo. I won't listen to him again because people (that ALSO don't know how easy it is for someone to make their own ammo) keep bring that bit up in gun debate threads here on NSG. I've gotten quite tired of it, and by extension, him.

And okay, maybe not all semi-autos. Just the really lethal stuff: AR-15, AR-10, etc.

So, no AR15 or AR10. Can we still have the Mini 14 and the M1A?

I think that there should be more extensive mental health screening, more background checks and a closing of the gun show gap.

But in terms of so-called "assault weapons," you can kill people with a .22 rifle. That's happened multiple times in Finland, and you'll never ban .22 semi-autos in the US.

Actually, a semi auto .22lr firearm can run afoul of many (if not all) of the state level AWBs, and the expired federal AWB.
