You aren't yet old enough to drive and live in a family with a 2007 Toyota as the main form of transport. I doubt you've ever even seen a Bentely of any model or engine, let alone been in one or driven it. You aren't in a position to know or tell people about the perceptions and implications this car might have. Fellow wealthy people won't give a shit about the implications of the engine having 82 less horsepower, only you care because the only things you know about these cars are things you can read on Wikipedia articles.

With the greatest of respect, what my parents can & can't afford is none of your business. Furthermore, and again, with the greatest of respect, could you ever hope of owning a car even close to the price of that my mother has just purchased? Over £100,000- is that even in your salary range? I really don't like being rude, however my parents own cars worth far, far more than the one they have just bought; a Range Rover Autograph, for instance, a Jaguar, again, far, far more expensive. This car in particular is for my mother at work; she works in Central London, where having a big car is unnecessary, and impractical. The Audi she owns, which is again far more expensive & used for pleasure, would be impractical for her current job, and either way, she refuses to use it in London traffic. As I also mentioned in a previous post, my dad is treating himself to an Aston Martin in a few months. Very exciting, I am sure you will agree.
So yes, I don't want to be rude, when you have the financial clout to buy anything near the cars my parents have worked hard to be able to afford, then you can make that post. Otherwise;
So sorry everybody is that seemed rather nouveau riche, however I felt I had to put him right!

Well, I just informed you that this is frequently a thing with the cheaper option in a car brand. I'd call it "the Boxster syndrome", as it is the most apparent in case of the Porsche Boxster and 911, but other brands are also hit by it; see the Rolls Royces: Ghost and Phantom. It does not mean that the cheaper car is worse, but that's a thing to consider.

I frequently see a Bentley Continental GT, and that problem with a car seems to be known since at least the early 90s, since I have a translated German car catalogue from 1992 and they remarked that the Toyota Camry was perceived as a "Mercedes for the poor", as well as saying that the Honda CRX is known as "the secretary's Porsche".

Your mistake was on the scale of saying "Here is my classmate. He's a dick." instead of "Here is my classmate. His name is Richard." or "I have five cocks" instead of "I own five roosters".

That sounds like a really good idea. Do your car dealerships have bows to put on top? My Father and I did that once for a Christmas gift to my Mom.

Yes, yes they are. However the new Jaguar XJR has really won me over. I may pick one of those up myself.

Bentley's more reliable though the problem here is finding dealerships to service them. I imagine that is not a problem in the UK.

My dad has a Jaguar XJ for work; a very nice car, professionally speaking if you know what I mean. Looks good, looks certainly at home in the business field. I would recommend it, especially if that is the sort of work you are in.

That is exactly what we are planning, yes; we got onto the firm and they have sorted out a big gift tag. Nice and tacky!

I am almost completely certain that this is something that would have been considered if it were important to the buyer of the vehicle.

In 1958, James Moore, a 37-year-old single WWII and Korean War veteran working in a DuPont paint factory in quality assurance, who lived in a nicer part of Bronx, bought himself a brand-new VW Beetle. Ah, c'mon, y'know what he means. And hey, a $200,000 automobile ain't nothing to scoff at, V-12 or not. I figure that it's their money and they can do what they want with it, y'know? Whether you agree with it or not, y'know, that's your opinion, but they don't have to follow it if they don't want to. Now if I was receiving a $200,000 Bentley.... well, truth be told, I'd be happy. Not because I get to have and drive around this expensive car, but because I can now sell this expensive car. Which probably wouldn't seem right to the people who gave me it, since it's a gift and all. But then again, anybody who actually knows me wouldn't buy me an expensive sports car. If they were gonna spend $200,000 on automobiles for me, it'd probably just be best to give me the $200,000 and say "Go ahead. Buy whatever you want. Buy all the Chevy trucks you wish to have." But, uh......... well, regardless, I don't see why you have to be so scrutinizing about them buying this car.

He did that, because the car had good gas mileage and was reliable, at least compared to American cars. After buying the Beetle, he liked it and realised that he does not need a big car anymore. And after he got married (1961) and had his 1st child (1963), he sold the Beetle, wanting to replace it with a Type 2. The Beetle's 2nd owner was...

Shut up you little fucking shit you don't even have a learner's permit or whatever they fuck they give you in Poland. You don't even know what it feels like to drive an automatic corolla on the road and you haven't earned a fucking Zimbabwe dollar in your lifetime enough of the fucking /o/ memes. While a Bentley V8 wouldn't be my first choice, if somebody was gifting me one I'd be pretty fucking excited I wouldn't be saying "uhhh, ohhhh, ahhh where's muh V12??????@!!?!?!??"

Hahaha... I actually have 21 Zimbabwe dollars. A $1 Zimbabwe bill and a $20 Zimbabwe bill. I just find it real hilarious how the inflation was so bad there that they ended up making things like 100 trillion dollar bills. Hehehe....

I'm just saying that the car has some certain implications. I understand if they got it for free, but if they were to scrounge up $300k for a set of wheels, then they should know about the good and bad stuff.

And it's not like I care about social stigma of cars. I think the Prius is a good car to own. That alone esplains my stance on that.

Yes, yes they are. However the new Jaguar XJR has really won me over. I may pick one of those up myself.

Bentley's more reliable though the problem here is finding dealerships to service them. I imagine that is not a problem in the UK.

And if I were buying a luxury car, I would get a Mercedes S-Class or a Lexus LS. Depends on how much I would value reliability.
