Depends on the car. GM midsizers might be the most egregious example of four doors being WAY more awkward than two doors.

For Example.

I prefer two doors in most situations, even on huge cars. I would have liked to see the later Panther bodies have two door sedans. Although I don't like how in most modern two door cars the back windows don't roll down - I like the look of hardtops, with the open air breezing through and nothing to obstruct the view.

Pickup trucks I actually sort of like the extended cab models with the demi-doors (If I were to get a modern pickup I'd probably get an F150 Supercab short bed with the V8 and Lariat trim), but yeah, crew cab pickups are ugly as sin.

Pick ups look best with the extended cab with full front doors and the rear suicide doors. IMHO.

My opinion is that pickups look best either with an extended cab and short bed or regular cab and short bed. All opinion, y'know?

I think the regular two door has too short of a cab. Looks out of proportion. And the crew cab is too much. The extended cab is just right. Also much more practical than the regular two door. The space under the back seat is great for storage. And the back seat good for things like groceries you do not want to transport in the bed.

And a V-6 in a full size is heresy. I need a V-8. Gets the vehicle good acceleration and much better towing. A full size should have at least 300 hp. I find most versions of the Tundra underpowered.

horsepower on a work truck is fairly meaningless, what you actually want is low-end torque.

Yeah, but I do not drive a pure work truck. I want something that can get up to highway speeds fast.

What year was that Silverado? All the current V-8s get over 300 hp.

I mean, that Silverado would punch up to highway speeds fairly quickly in spite of the fact that it weighed nearly 3 tonnes

Speed is mostly irrelevant to pickup trucks, unless you get something the SVT lightning or the Raptor, both Fords.

Mind you, I always find Chevy Silverados to be among the slowest vehicles on the road, especially on back roads. But the slowest would have to be damn, red Dodge Caravan, they were going under the speed limit.

98, I believe.

It was also a 3500HD, so the displacement and massive torque provided by that engine was needed.

I was saying as much, trucks don't need speed or crushing acceleration. Their platforms just aren't made for that kind of thing.

Also, while not quite in the same class, there's the Ram Power Wagon, and there's rumours about a Ram Hellcat circling around as well.

Yep, they're just too heavy. Acceleration? Adequate.

They made a Dodge Ram SRT10, which had a Viper engine, so maybe Dodge Ram SRT Hellcat wouldn't be too unreasonable, given what Chrysler is 'good' at making

IMO, trucks look best as either long cab short bed or regular cab long bed. Regular cab short bed is too damn stubby, long cab long bed has a ridiculous wheelbase and is probably impossible to park, and crew cab anything is ugly.

If I was going to get a truck, I would want a truck not as a work vehicle, but as the closest thing to the successor to the full size V8 RWD american car. So I would get a relatively nicely trimmed (Lariat or at least a very nice XLT for an F150, LTZ or leather equipped LT on the Silverado, or a Laramie on a Ram 1500) light duty extended cab short box with RWD, chrome doodads, a limited slip diff, and a V8. Preferably in a nice pearlescent white that I would keep ridiculously clean so people know it's really not a work truck. But all those would be in the 40 to 45k range - that is to say 500 a month on a lease or 1000 a month for a 36 month finance plan. So its not happening, not anytime soon at least.

Sure, by why have one when you can have both? My Siverado is getting about 330 hp and gets similar torque.

Or the new turbo diesels get nearly 400 hp and well over 700 ft/lbs of torque. Turbo diesels are expensive though.

Trucks can have crushing acceleration, there are race trucks. But I do not intend to race my truck. But I need enough horsepower to accelerate a heavy vehicle to be able to merge and pass on the highway.

Me either. My Silverado can climb hills fine. Sure you have to give it a little juice, but that is where you want that big V-8. Also plenty of air flow, stock Silverados have restrictive air intakes and exhaust, a cold air intake and good cat back exhaust makes a noticeable difference.
