I was exploring an ancient Egyptian tomb, and I found the name of my one day to be nation scrawled in shaky script on the bottom of a canopic jar containing a pair of desiccated testicles. Very oddly, the script was in a language that seemed to be a cross between English and Cherokee that when translated said, "Beware the goofball that is a lunatic." It was dated, Friday, April 1st, 2029. To this day, I don't know if it was real, or an elaborate April Fool's Day joke.

It has nothing to do with political correctness, not even by the definition you provided in the post above. This is why I, and others, mock the whole "PC GONE MAD" meme. Because it gets applied to anything and everything. Media outlets like the Daily Mail use it to create this myth of the omnipresent PC Police who are coming for everything you, dear reader, value. I'm feeling generous, so I'll save you further guessing. All political correctness is is the idea that one should use neutral language that won't cause unintentional offence or imply negative things. It's the idea that you shouldn't use derogatory terms like "kike" or "nigger" to refer to people. Nothing to do with assumptions about guilt or innocence. Nothing to do with permitting or prohibiting GMOs. Not even anything to do with banning someone from X Box Live because they live in Fort Gay, because the problem there is that Microsoft were poorly executing their policy against having derogatory or (I'm guessing) vulgar terms in one's profile.

And yes, people do sometimes do stupid things in pursuit of that idea. Like the recruitment firm that told Australian Santas not to say "Ho Ho Ho!" But find me any human endeavour that hasn't had someone at some level doing something stupid.

I am shocked and appalled by this deadly terrorist attack.

Given the inability of the US central government to deal appropriately with these terrorists and protect their own citizens from these recurring acts of violence, I demand that the European Union ban all immigration from the United States immediately, and force those already in our countries to register with an Interpol database before deporting them back to their home country.

I acknowledge that these dangerous terrorist incidents are carried out by only a tiny minority of Americans, but how do we distinguish the peace-loving Americans from the terrorist Americans? How do we know that sleeper cells of pro-life terrorists aren't masquerading as American students or tourists?

I know that what I'm suggesting may sound like drastic steps, but if it means we need to make sure that we sacrifice a little of our inessential liberty in order to grant us more security, then they're steps I'm willing to take.

Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal, but from what I've heard about medic management, the Navy hardly seems a model of efficiency.

I first heard about this as I was picking up my son for an appointment today. They had it on in the school office. First thing he says to me, 'Mom, there's been another shooting'. And then we proceeded to have a discussion about it on our way in. No, he wasn't terrified for his life or any of that. He actually had a lot of interesting commentary on it, and I could tell where some thoughts or questions had been ... colored, so to speak, from school, or newscasts, or other things. We talked it all out, regardless, with the caveat that whatever opinions I might have, he needed to take all the information at hand, and hold his own opinions on it, and that I could occasionally get a little rawr, rawr, rawr bout things. No, I worded it all better, but there you go. If I accomplish nothing else in this life, preparing my kids to think for themselves, create their own independent opinions based on actual research and consideration, and to get out there in the big old world and make it on their own, I will count myself blessed.

Anyway.

The thoughts I had ran in conjunction with other recent or recent-ish events. Word of 'armed men getting out of a black SUV' and all hints of organization, which troubles me. Granted, we'll have to wait to get as full a story, with whatever slant the various news organizations are putting to it, but hey. It's a concerning point. It also leads me to suspect, given the targets, of some of the more (pardon the unprofessional tone) whackjob efforts and POV's out there. Sad to say, but they've appeared to be predominantly extremist conservatives - with everything from the horribly botched Planned Parenthood tape fiasco, now resulting in the murder of 3 people and leaving 6 children without a parent iirc, to that lovely preacher in Arizona, I believe, proselytizing that we need to eradicate all the gays and transgender people before Christmas, was it? To - and correct me if I'm wrong here - but wasn't there an effort a ways back about getting rid of people with disabilities? 'Cleaning the gene pool' so to speak, and other just precious lines of so-called 'reasoning' that have been spewed by self-righteous sacks of utter shit who ought to be paying more attention to the messages of 'love one another' that are all the hell over the place in true Christian teachings.

People have been calling for an answer from moderate Christians on all this bullshit? Well folks, here I am, stating these people are NOT true Christians, as much as moderate Islamic adherents disavow Daesh and their ilk. It is not what the religion is about. It is not about self-serving, horrible atrocities, hate, divisiveness, and all the rest. We are supposed to 'forgive all men' and be joyful, caring, to help those in need, clothe the naked, feed the hungry, provide for widows and orphans and so on, dammitall. Making personal judgments over what we will and will not allow into our lives, deciding what choices we will make, and what morals we will teach our kids? Absolutely - but there is no morality in hate. There is no morality in loving only exclusively. There is no morality in the situational ethics of 'help the people who look like us, but damn the rest'.

I'm not the only one out there saying this. Please, for the love of all that is holy and unholy, do not lump me, and others like me in with the shitflinging monkey show that has become the norm for what the party line on conservatives is being represented as. Jesus wept, what a clusterfuck.

Right then, back to point. I greatly fear that we have allowed far too much propaganda to infiltrate our society. Anyone who claims there is no propaganda effort may need to wake up, and look no further than the political ads. Not that it stops there. How our news represents stories. The frequency with which they air various angles, people, clips, quotes. The horrendous mess that is social media, and all the misinformation, misrepresentation, and outright lies that get tossed out there right alongside the truth to the point it becomes increasingly difficult to see just what in blazes is going on. And those most easily influenced, unfortunately, are. And not always for the better. Planned Parenthood shooting, case in point. Our society overall has got a lot of holes that people have been falling through. There are a lot of reasons for people to be disaffected, unhappy, downright enraged, even. In some cases, it doesn't take all that much to get them off and running. Isis bookstore getting vandalized due to some idiot equating it to Daesh, from the misinformed notion that it meant one and the same. Due to stupidity? Not going to argue that, but it's due to irresponsible labeling KNOWING we have those idiots to contend with out there.

Extreme conservatives are damn well responsible for their rhetoric and rampant shittalking winding someone up to the point of taking action. I would say the same of any extreme liberals doing similar. Anyone have an example I could toss out there for comparison? I'm afraid all I have atm is Clinton forcing people to lie for him to cover his ass back in the day. No, don't even try to argue me on that, I read the full transcripts at the time, not gonna budge - don't care about the sex, it was the corruption, the implied blackmail, the pressure on others that pisses me off.

Moving on.

We are responsible for our words, our action, and our influences, folks. As people, we are responsible for what we do. In a position of power and increased influence, we are if anything, more responsible. And it is about damn time our politicians stood up and took some goddamned accountability for their rhetoric. And it is more than high time we, as people, demanded that hate speech be dealt with regardless of who it is peddling it - preacher, prophet, pauper, prince - I don't give a rat's ass. Own it, if its yours. Decry it if you're witnessing it. Do they have a right to spew it? Under our laws, why yes they do. But we don't have to buy into it, we don't have to broadcast it further, we certainly don't have to support it, and we have more than enough rights to shout it down, and deliver the proper consequences for crossing the line into outright hate speech, inflammatory calls to illegal action, and all the other ugly shit that goes with it.

Whether it is Black Lives Matter people calling for the deaths of cops who have yet to be proven guilty of any wrongdoing, whether it is conservative preachers or politicians calling for the deaths of gays, lesbians, and transgender citizens, whether it is white supremacists calling for the deaths of blacks, Jews, or any other group, it needs to be addressed as the hate it is, as the call to illegal action it is, as the downright wrong it is. Regardless of who is behind it, or spewing it. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from the consequences of delivering that speech, folks. Nor being free of the consequences of your speech driving others to commit crimes. Last I checked, murder is a crime. Domestic terrorism is a crime. Blackmail is a crime. Harassment is a crime. Vandalism is a crime.

Call people on it. Prosecute people for it. Hold them accountable for it. And for chrissakes, or better, for society's sake, don't forward those agendas. Don't politicize them further. Don't blast them over the internet, the television, the radio and give them more cred, even inadvertently. I've applauded the efforts of some law enforcement officials and officers to not give more publicity to the perpetrators of horrible acts of violence, etc. Not blaring names, and every. fucking. detail. that can be dredged up on them. Not immortalizing them as some want to be - have even stated in posts, in manifestos, in notes left for the press or family that they will now be, having committed the crimes. 'People have a right to know' is being taken too far, and used as an excuse to grab ratings, and get views. I've no doubt this current event will be used in similar fashion, mores the pity. Do we need information on what is happening? I'm not denying that. But with care. With thought. With consideration. And perhaps with a touch of common sense and good judgment, where possible.

Ok, ok - ranted and rambled enough, I'm sure. I hope this was random. I hope it wasn't, as my instincts fear, orchestrated and encouraged by politics, and persons of influence more than can be reasonably expected in today's world of 'information on demand'. I hope that more have survived. I hope that the friends and loved ones of those who have not will be able to find some privacy, and comfort while grieving. I hope that there will be support for those affected. I hope that the guilty will be held accountable. I hope that no more lives will be lost in apprehending them. And I hope that any actions taken on account of this and other like events will not be knee-jerk in nature, and will be aimed where they will be most effective, not just most popular.
