It actually turns out he knows the superiors of ANOTHER Jesuit priest that is a close relative of my mother, and who she respects quite a bit, so we're trying to get him on board with everything as well, to apply even more pressure on my parents to let me transition, and not try and stop me from it.

The priest I went to had known me before I started to transition, so of course I was terrified to talk to him, but he was completely supportive of me, and is working with me to ensure that, even if my parents completely reject me, I have options open to me to be able to ensure I can continue my transition. He even was like "yeah, you seem so much happier even just looking at you, compared with last year" when I told him that transitioning was a positive thing for me, and working to maximize the chances my parents will be accepting.

Here's hoping for the next few months! :)

I am pleased. The Jesuits are a favorite of mine now.

That's awesome!

And also begs the question of why Francis isn't more like them.

I got to see a doctor for my referral today to see a psychiatrist, it was frustrating, I was asked questions like "Do you want kids? You do know you won't be able to have kids if you go through with it, right."

Well, that is typically the questions they ask when going through a procedure of that magnitude.

It's to cover their own liability. If they don't ask, if they don't jump through all these hoops some dumb or very twisted person is going to use that as an excuse to sue the shit out of them.

Nope. It's just the litigation culture. Welcome to the future.

Like that woman who tried to sue her solicitor for not explaining to her that divorcing her husband would mean the end of her marriage?

Its also a part of informed consent. You have to be told the affects that a procedure that you'll go through will cause, so that you can properly consent to the treatment. Infertility, and other health risks, are things that we, as patients, have to be made sure that we're aware of. :)

Set my Facebook profile to refer to me using female pronouns. Not changed to my preferred name because of all the crap around doing that if it's not my legal name.

Wait. Why is a psychiatrist talking to you about the side effects of SRS?

HRT causes irreversible infertility after a while, you don't need SRS to spike the ol' baby cannon. And since some people are concerned about having kids in the future, it's a reasonable concern to raise in a psych assessment.

Of course, my psychiatrist went a step further and was like "You know it'll be harder to find romantic or sexual relationships, right?"

I feel like I should post here more often, but never have anything new to say. I hate that I'm not actually doing anything but I can't actually do anything yet and I'm extremely resistant to seeing a therapist for no good reason.

Use the thread as you need to, is my opinion. You're always welcome here.

I am kind of confused, because I can't tell if that is a compliment or a complaint? Honestly, I think it's valuable to have a psychiatrist be frank about relationships and things like that, because it is important.

It betrays a fundamental misunderstanding on his part about why I'm transitioning, which is not for relationships or other people. Dude seemed a little obsessed with sex, TBH. And all that shit is just not relevant to me.

But, it should still be a concern. I mean, it isn't at all wrong to say that a significant number of the people who would want to court a trans person will be people seeking it out for the wrong reasons.

Yeah, trans chasers exist and are creepy AF. But still, focusing on sexual relationships like that felt like he was completely missing the point.

They accept a voter registration card as ID. I doubt they could tell if it's photoshopped.

To be frank. I will be completely toxic and rude to a trans chaser.

Wait a second, Facebook makes you give them PID as a way to change your name?!

I don't remember that being a thing.

Yes, but Jennifer is not my legal name and so I do not have any documentation under it.

I can see why you wouldn't want to see a therapist. That sort of stuff us really not my thing either. However, if everything is getting on top of you it might be best to bite the bullet and give it a go.
