Eat - Meal plan included in tuition. Free meals on nights that I work.
Rent - Non existent. On campus housing is covered in tuition.
Tuition - Grants, loans, and scholarships took out most of it. My parents, divorced, are each paying $1,000 of the remaining $2,000 that needed to be paid this year.

Dayum.

Well, this is the end of summer. Off to bed, must start getting used to school days from here on out.

G'night.

I feel like I should learn Spanish, but learning a new language seems like such a Herculean task.

I took Spanish 101 at a community college once upon a time, but that was a long time ago, and I never learned any Spanish after that class.

That seems to be a common case for people taking 101's in foreign language. Is it actually possible to learn a language in a classroom setting though? :p I mean, to the point of basic fluency.

I feel like it wouldn't get to as many people. :p Believe me, if people understood the context, I'd be quoting Agesilaus and the Spartan kings a lot more for luls and the occasional tidbit of Laconic/Stoic wisdom.

I think I could have become very basically fluent if I had continued to Spanish 201. In 101, I learned a lot of nouns, a few adjectives, and some verbs, along with their conjugations. Not really enough to have a conversation.

From how it sounds though, it seems like a good foundation if you actually want to take your Spanish further. I took Mandarin 101 and I can barely remember a thing, apart from greetings. I grew up in a household though where Finnish, Estonian and Swedish feature heavily despite living in an English-speaking country, and I can work my way with all three. :?:

Better than I can do. I live in New Mexico, where speaking Spanish would actually be useful, but I lack motivation to take the time to learn it.

Oh, absolutely. The majority of people here speak English, but some don't, and a good portion are bilingual. Like I said, it would be useful, but by no means necessary.

Oh. My family and a few family friends who run our brewing company are all practicing heathens. We hold little feasts every Friday to celebrate the end of the workweek. Not sure how that connects to TFG, though. :p
