Joe Biggs: Ban the rainbow flag

The flag (the battle flag, not the actual flag), a common symbol of southern pride even among black people, was faced with bans and legal challenges. All of that just because some white Adam Lanza lookalike apparently killed people, something a tiny minority of southerners ever do.
Now, a gay black man has killed two news anchors because they were white, also in Virginia. Same state, same sort of hate crime, but a different reaction. As Biggs (sardonically) points out, why is there no effort to ban the rainbow flag? As Alex points out, why not try to ban anything symbolic connected to massacres?
This is the thing I can't stand about liberals today. When I was a kid, JFK, though he's totally overrated, wouldn't have dreamt of doing something like this. It's not enough to get past racism. Once the problem is mostly solved, new issues have to made up--and what you don't like has to be swept under the rug. The Confederate flag is here, it's in your face, and it's not going anywhere motherfucker!! Why not just ban the American flag while you're at it? Slavery was legal when it was introduced. What about any state flag first made when slavery was around? In case you're thick, Joe was being sarcastic when he said the gay flag should be banned. But seriously, do you think the now banned General Lee Charger is a symbol of racism?

i don't know. can you think of a few differences between the confederte flag and rainbow flag? also it's not ban forever it's ban from public property. the differences are really really subtle so it's ok if we take this slowly.

No bullshit, it was banned in a lot of places including retail stores. Also, the Dukes of Hazzard was pulled from TV for no other reason than the presence of the flag.

yes, bullshit. there is no 100% united movement against the flag ruled by one hivemind. if they don't want to sell it then free market deal with it. there is a lot more going on with that flag than just a massacre.

You are misinterpreting this on the sole purpose to say "them stupid liberals" aren't you?
Also the confederate flag of isn't banned expect on government property unless for historical purposes. The only reason it was getting pulled from stores is the fact that it was becoming bad for PR.

In one corner, we have a flag very closely associated with traitors, slavers, and bigots. In the other corner, we have a flag very closely associated with "Can haz equal rights plz?" So, do tell where the rainbow flag has been flying on government property, or where private citizens have been banned from flying the Confederate flag on their own property.

Well, The confederate flag has nothing to do with the rainbow flag. It we ban everything that alludes to hate, we'd be banning almost everything.

Taking into account everything you said, the highlighted statement is, at least in my opinion, quite massively overgeneralised. I'm a liberal, and I support anyone being able to fly anything (well, anything except international symbols of hate i.e. a Swastika on a Hitler banner, etc.). Also, assuming "General Lee Charger" refers to the confederate flag and not the car, I think the Confederate Flag stands for racism when it's used in a racist context. It's not racist when put in a history museum, but in a museum glorifying slavery and segregation, yes it can be racist.

Primarily the context of the two images and the shooters themselves.
The Confederate flag has been a symbol of bigotry and racism to the majority of people ever since it's heavy involvement in white supremacy during the the MLK era of civil rights, being adopted by such lovely groups as the KKK. So, when someone commits a hate crime with pictures of said person proudly adorning such symbols, and making openly racist white supremacist comments, it's going to obviously drive people over the edge.
Now, compare that to the rainbow flag, which literally has only ever been associated with equality by LGBT activists (that I know of.) And has never been associated with race in any way, shape, and/or form (that I know of.) Therefore, when a black man who happens to be a homosexual commits a hate crime, nobody is going to jump on that flag. Unless they were being targeted for being straight, if those people even exist.

A misnomer since it has everything to do with the social realm of humanity rather than the political one. No matter what the critics say they cannot possibly deny it.

The confederate flag wasn't banned, it was simply removed from places where it's presence was seen as an endorsement. It might be shocking to learn most people don't want their democratically elected government implicitly endorsing the flag of a bunch traitorous slavers!
