I vote for the winter 2020 should be in Antartica instead of Beijing

Isn't the 2020 Olympics the Summer, not the Winter Olympics.

You mean 2026?

That could be an option but why have 2020 in Beijing when they have no snow? I can see it now gleaming stadiums and luge tracks working their way round the Antartic at least the Penguins will have some sweet stuff to show off after the Olympics are over

Arguable.

Didn't, like, half the world not turn up though?

I can't imagine Rio being much worse than that.

I'm sure China has enough money, human rights abuses, and time to introduce snow to Beijing before 2022. If money can bring the Olympics over for the winter, it can bring winter to the Olympics.

Beijing is situated in North-Western China with mountains to the north, northwest and west. It has a rather dry, monsoon-influenced humid continental climate, characterized by generally cold, windy, dry winters that reflect the influence of the vast Siberian anticyclone. Its humid continental climate is characterized by large seasonal temperature differences, with warm to hot (and often humid) summers and cold (sometimes severely cold) winters. I believe this means Beijing has a pretty good chance of getting lots of snow and ice during Winter months, making it perfect for a Winter Olympic ;-)

It doesn't. Cities that host the Olympics lose millions, if not billions. Good thing African countries don't win, because I can't think of any that can afford to waste so much money on nationalistic grandstanding.

Do they? I thought most of them has turned a profit?

Some do but most don't. The ones that do are usually well-off cities that already have good infrastructure and thus don't need to buy as many upgrades.
