Windows 10 is upon us!

Postby Jaxukuk » Tue Jul 28, 2015 2:19 pm

Tomorrow's a big day in the OS world: Windows 10 is being released.
As a member of the Insider Programme, I'm really excited to see what Microsoft's final, finished, polished product will be like.
It's already been released in parts of Asia, where it's tomorrow already.

Will you be upgrading?
What are your hopes for the new OS?
Are you part of the Insider Programme?
Does anyone live in Asia and have it already?

I think that W10 is going to be great. I have really high hopes for it. It looks great, and promises good performance. I guess I'll have to wait to find out.

I will wait. I signed up for the freebe, but I won't install until probably September.

It's going to be what Windows 8 was to Windows 7 users (or vista was to XP users), in all likelihood. Wait for the next OS release for it to be good.
This is a signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Interesting. May I ask why? To check stability? To make sure that it doesn't have any problems? I know a lot of others who are doing the same.

I'll be backing up my desktop before I upgrade. There shouldn't be issues upgrading and no files should be lost but...things happen. Either way I plan to give it at least a week before upgrading just in case there are any major errors the earlier builds missed or didn't have. I'm excited but going into this with scepticism as Microsoft always seems to screw up a launch

Same here: I'm backing up anyway since I plan on doing a clean install (if I get the choice). You would have thought that Microsoft would have tested the upgrade process to death to ensure everything goes off without a hitch, but like you said, things have happened before...

I'm going to wait and see how good or bad it is before making the transition.
Windows 7 represent, also.

Microsoft is great and all, but it's Microsoft. There will be a couple hitches.

I would say that it almost couldn't be worse than Windows 8, and then I realized, as much as I despise Windows 8, it probably could.

I think it's Eastern Daylight Time.

I'm in Beijing and it's already 5:30am on the 29th.

Still no Windows 10.

I think I remember reading somewhere that there were internal problems with calling it Windows 9. Something about the computer being tricked into thinking it was running 95 or 98 because of the first digit.

Yeah, there's a lot of places that use code that search for "Windows 9*" and end up giving the computer code designed for the early DOS-based Windows, which is probably not the best digital experience in 2015. :P

Eh, I'm perfectly happy with Windows 7 on my desktop for the foreseeable future. When I finally replace my dying XP laptop, I figure the next one I get will have 10 on it. Because fuck Windows 8. With a tire iron. The wide way. Now if I can just keep the aforementioned laptop alive for just a few more months...

I used to think Windows 8 wasn't that bad, but I'm glad that they're releasing 10.

Odd. http://www.winbeta.org/news/asia-its-al ... ows-10-day

At risk of being the odd one out: I love Windows 8, and 8.1 was even better. I honestly don't see what's to dislike. It had a nice-looking new interface. It was still pretty much the same underneath, just took a bit of getting used to.
