The Golden Age of NationStates?

First off,get this straight: I have only been here since November 25,2013. But I do know some things about NS history.

So,first off. I think of this as the second Golden Age of NS History. The first is the 2003-2008 period. That was the period before the Jolt NS2 mess-up, often regarded as the worst point in our history. We came back to NationStates in 2009, and got off on a much-needed fresh start. These days, we don't speak much of NS2.

Flash forward to 2012. The first major "NS Summer" took place. Many inexperienced and underage RPers came to the site. They were famous for posting whimsical things (this year's NS Summer began in May when a player was asking for pictures of girls in bikinis).

But now,we have this year. This NS Summer has so far been one of the best. Some may call it the end of NS Popularity,but not me. We have gotten our act together this year. Less underaged have come this year, and more experienced RPwrs have also came. Of course,the noobs need teaching, but that can be achieved,right?

So, NSG, is this the second Golden Age of NationStates?

Another thread then sprung up with a nation, called Summit I think, asking for any fellow rappers if they could "spit some bars" with him.

Oh and then I was hounded for nude pictures and sex by a nation that displayed a fat naked man as its flag. I declined both requests.

So, yes, this is the Golden Age.

I'm here since 2012 and I have to say, While I believe NS has been progressing forward in some areas and is a site as hot as a hot potato, There has been an overall decline in the quality of NSG, one of the crucial NS forums.

Back in 2012 and early 2013, If you were to enter a debate, people actually applauded good points you raised, even if they were arguing against you. They made sense, they explained the logic behind their thinking and they rarely posted in an offensive manner. Yes, sure, that was not true about everyone, but still, it was a pleasant environment overall. People were also more educated in history and understood basic social science. The topics and issues were also far more complex and interesting to begin with.

NSG was almost like a think-thank with brave new Ideas popping out left and right (or more like being re-invented) and everyone took out their magnifying glasses to take a closer look. Then they would then politely tell the op why his or her newly invented political philosophies would result in a total disaster, were they to be implemented IRL, which the author would then consider and refine his Ideas.

I loved it.

Nowdays, and that doesn't just include this summer, everywhere I look there are threads about crappy mainstream contreversies where there isn't much to debate to begin with. Very little in-depth analysis of history, political philosophy and plenty of mud throwing.

Now, keep in mind though, this doesn't apply to all of NSG. There is plenty of good, reasonable folk out there, minding their own business, especially on threads not related to politics, but the others...

They don't make any sense. You bring up 5 excellent arguments backed up with facts that from reliable sources that would blast them out of the playing field and 1 sloppy one, and they will completely dodge all the 5 good ones like its the fucking matrix and chew on the shitty argument, thus derailing the entire debate into that tiny meaningless field that you could have left out entirely and. Another thing people like to do is to reply with an argument that has absolutely nothing to do with your post. Nothing. You can say that the US is responsible for vetoing dozens of SC resolutions aimed stopping terrorist activities and calling implementation of UN actions 95% of the world supports, and they will respond by saying that the world can thank america all its 20th century technological progress. WHERE IS THE CONNECTION? I don't even...

They also know very, very little about... pretty much anything... and they insult you every chance they get. There are offensive people all over the place that make me so mad, I just stop posting. I'm not the kind of guy who brings in the mods but I've been around enough to know that flame wars bring no good so all I can do is to quit the debate.

Then, there are sometimes so many things wrong with what they have to say, I don't even know where to start. Their own arguments contradict themselves. - "How can they not see that?!?" - I often ask myself.

There are so many people who come to NSG not to debate, but to propagate the crap they got indoctrinated with. They don't think for themselves, they just say the same words the favorite politician said on TV.

I hate it.

And the old guys, the ones who made sense?
I rarely run into them in this sea of ignorance, and even when I do, they already gave up on NSG.

As for the rest of the forums, I have a mixed feeling, although to be honest, I'm not a very good roleplayer either, there seems to be very, very slow decline in the average quality of IC posts due to the influx of new players, but there are also much fewer god-modders and fewer time-consuming, 20 page long OOC arguments around, and when there are, they make more sense.

I would rather use the worlds: "quick to judge".

Kinda like a revolutionary tribunal. Not much of a trial involved. Executes on the spot.

That brings up an interesting Idea. What if we were to create juries for forum rule violations?

NationStates tends to have good moderators. I've never seen corruption or anything. Then again, I'm an NSSporter, so we only have one moderator(a good one at that).
