So a state government debating on whether to take down a flag of secession and some stores voluntarily ending sales of said flags is a witch hunt now.

Just my opinion, but I think that the while confederate flag should be removed from state buildings, people should be completely free to display it in other places, such as memorials, museums, etc.

I feel that removing the flag from state buildings shows that the U.S. doesn't support racism and hate based on things such as ethnicity or religion. However, I also feel that it is restricting free speech by preventing people from publicly displaying the flag. Thus, I believe that people should not be restricted from flying it at places such as their homes, memorials, and other places.

Plus, an orange charger with welded shut doors isn't nearly as cool without the flag on top ;)

It is flying over the Confederate War Memorial.

I could care less if someone wants to express their southern pride, I won't fight that flag. Either way I'm just one person so it's not like the world will end because I don't support that flag.

Ok, but preserving the right to free speech and expression entails allowing citizens to fly the Confederate flag if so they choose. There's no two ways about that.

One can fly the flag on one's front yard and burn crosses next to it for all I care, but it's rather stupefying that people are demanding that state government has the right to fly a symbol of secession against the federal government.

This x1,000. The argument of a state flying it is moronic. It's also ironic, since states' rights are the reason it exists.

Personally, I don't understand the desire for states' rights. Dividing a country like the Founding Fathers did just has micromanagement and logistics problems written all over it, which have shown their ugly head in the last 150 years many times. I feel that we would've been better off ditching the whole states concept and just having one giant country, but it's too late to try that.

A memorial which happens to be on the grounds of South Carolina's state capitol. By flying it there, the government is essentially telling its citizens that it endorses the values which that flag represents. That's why it needs to come down.

Now that all signs of the confederacy are going away, I say we begin tearing apart the US's "union" and its symbols as well. And finally, we can go back to the flag of the United Kingdom. the stars and stripes is a sign of treason and rebellion against the crown and the government after all!
