And I note you have not responded to my point about this adventure you imagine having involving the killing of several people. Do you just not care about killing people? Do you think that some people's lives don't matter or something like that? Do you think that killing people would be fun if you can convince yourself that you are doing it for honour or glory?

The poor shod would break down after his very first kill, I think. All can be uppity and obnoxious and claim to be "warriors" and whatnot, but when they land them in a foreign land to kill real persons that can also kill them back, their nerves don't handle it well most of the time.

This is why you serve in the seat of a fighter or bomber. You're censored from the brutality of the kill, and the most you may ever see is a distant blurry figure pawing at his burning cockpit. Otherwise you're not going to be witnessing anything truly horrifying compared to the urban warfare on the Russian front.

Instead of being a child why not just make one by having an affair with one of the local women (or whatnot) while away at the front?

People did it all the time especially the U.S soldiers stationed in the U.K. Hell in the more recovered parts of Germany during the occupation there were German mistresses who were well known for accompanying the officers of the powers stationed in the occupation zone (especially the U.S).
