Fortified wine is cheaper, so you can afford more of it to poison yourself.

If I'm drinking to wash away the bad taste stupid people leave in my mouth, I at least want something halfway decent to replace it.

Lots of anime nerdy type stuff, fair bit of steampunky stuff... really, a very nerdy weekend all around. If I could afford it, I'd being doing cosplay too. Sadly, can't afford that right now.

I think I'll manage, since my group of friends have been doing the anime convention thing for 15 years now. Also nice, we've got a 2-bedroom suite with a full kitchen, so we're doing slow-cooker dinners instead of eating out every night.

Why is it that I feel there are a lot of us going to conventions

I would imagine that Nationstates has a disproportionately high percentage of anime/comics/sci-fi/fantasy/etc fans that tend to enjoy going to them?

As for Fanime specifically, they don't necessarily pull the sort of guests that the much larger Anime Expo does, but it tends to be far more fan-driven than corporate-sponsored. Still has a nice big dealer's hall for the shopaholics, video viewing rooms (watching DBZ Abridged on a giant projector screen with a room full of other fans was amazing!) and tons of panels on cosplaying, specific series, fan activities, and so on. My sister and I are running four panels on fanfiction writing this year, as part of our unending (and largely futile) quests to increase the percentage of fanfic that doesn't suck.
