PTSD isn't the only mental condition in which persons can "snap", nor is a mental condition required for a person to "snap". The Swiss defence forces have a sadly rich history in this (pretty much as rich as the US forces tbh, which is to say - not rich in the slightest), with the most famous example probably being the Zug parliament massacre.

The reason I have refrained from commenting on this matter earlier today is that it is unfair to assume that all shootings are because of a certain movement or such.

Indeed, any fatal shooting is a terrible tragedy for the community, and as a person with serious mental health problems, it is imperative that any mental health issues are taken seriously to reduce the chance of people snapping out with disastrous consequences.

I think it's even worse than that.

Random-shootings are the only violence that threatens privileged, wealthy people in 1st world countries. So, it's the only violence that's not considered funny.

On the other hand, whenever people are exploited, massacred, or tortured outside of 1st world countries, it's okay to have a sense of humor. The jokes are harmless, after all. For examples on NationStates, look at the casual way people talk about North Korea, Ukraine, or Zimbabwe. No one is obsessed with being polite. No one is making a big show about being mournful. Then, something like this happens, and because the victims were white people in Switzerland, and all of a sudden NationStates becomes a serious forum.

Hundreds of millions of people worldwide have some kind of mental illness.

Of those, about a million people kill themselves worldwide each year.

Of those, a handful take a bunch of people with them.

This is not normal behavior for sane people. It's not normal behavior for insane people either.
I don't think the perp is mentally ill, at least not to the point of being delusional or unable to control his actions. I just think he got mad.

Way too many people think that mental illness is necessary to do horrible crimes, or at least the main cause of them (That honour actually belongs to alcohol).


I want to make one point very clear to everyone reading this:
YOU are capable of every terrible crime you can think of, no matter how civilised, sane and law abiding you think you are. Many people in history who thought the same about themselves have done horrible things because they had been convinced through peer pressure or a weekend bender that it was OK.
