Superhero Registration Act?

Let's assume that the Marvel Civil War is real and you are a superhero.

The Superhero Registration Act requires all superheroes to register with the government so that the government can monitor them. Then they will be given a choice: Retire or join the government's superhero task force. If they continue superhero activities on their own (outside of the government's control) or else evade registration requirements; the government will arrest them and throw them into prison.

The justification for this is that its too dangerous and unpredictable to have superheroes and mutants operating outside of the government's control and oversight.

Iron Man supports this stuff. Captain America doesn't like it (and leads a freedom fighter organisation with other superheroes who don't like this). Rogers thinks that this bill violates individual civil liberties and is unconstitutional.

You are a superhero. You must choose.

Do you fight with Stark? Or Rogers?

I will fight for Tony Stark. I would like to have the chance to wear a uniform and fight alongside the regular police. I would like to fight on the side of the law and order.

What choose you?

No God, No masters. Only corpses. I will use my teleportation powers to steal US nuclear launch codes and awash the Earth with nuclear baptism. Thus only superheros will be left...well those that can survive the cleansing fires of nuclear armageddon.

So you are basically a variation of a Jumper with some kind of a high level consciousness (thus awareness of where the codes are located) with a the mentality of a Magneto?

This should be in Arts and Fiction or Forum 7.

Me, as a healer (more accurately I can manipulate the cells in a living body), I would choose Rogers, but then my gift only works when touching someone, so it is a bit useless in combat. Although...I would probably try for the legal channels first.

Ah, we had one of these (MRA, iirc) about a year ago, good thread.

I feel like this won't go in the same direction….

Aye, the other one was better.

Also, am I the only one who suspects that Kefka would actually fight for Stark because Game of Thrones has their own Starks?

Sounds like this.

Imagining myself as me but with superpowers, I'd probably not fight.

I'm not a hero. Doubt most of you are. Superpowers or not, chances are I'm still mortal and I'd rather keep on living than have the mental delusion that I'm the main character of some movie. Chances are I'm just that guy that dies off-screen, and all the rest of you are too.

If I had superpowers I'd just use them to make my life easier and not fight crime at all.

ETA: Oh, and I'd probably post on Marvel's equivalent of NSG to tell them to give up on this Registration Act nonsense and just found Archon.

How super are the super powers?
I'd probably just go live in a hole in the ground until my superior intellect lets me find a way to communicate with alien life and have the world taken over.
Then I can assert my self as god emperor.

Didn't Loki already try that and get his ass ground into the floor by the Hulk? And besides, the whole "take over the world" shtick is generally a supervillain thing, and in a universe with superpowers that means that you're eventually going to get beaten.

You are right.
Fine.
I'll settle for blowing it up and leaving! Though I'll leave it really clique and have a big red button that stops it, tell all the super heroes about it, and have a final fight while the clock counts down, yet no matter how long of a time that passes it is always between 0 and fifteen seconds.

Just make sure you get a good deal on the movie rights.

Death within death, light the world afire to honor the Lord of Light, and wipe the slate clean.

Seriously though I'd prefer another species get a chance at Earth instead of us if someone is just going to nuke the planet even worse than it was on the day of October 23rd, 2077.

Ah, a refreshingly different topic.

I've already read that particular one, and I took the side of Stark, especially near the end.

I'd probably initially align myself with the Pro-Registration side, despite the fact I think this particular style of registration is the wrong way, because if I'm working with the government a compromise Bill instead.

The Compromise Bill being rather than registering Super Heroes have a licensing system instead. Heroes will be given a test on how good of a hero they can be based on their ability to deal with crime, avoid collateral damage, and perform various rescue operations. The Avengers would then grade said heroes to determine what level of threats they can properly challenge. IF a hero then tries to take on a challenge beyond their level and something bad happens they could be liable if something bad happens, barring it is proven that similar damage would have occured anyway, or in the event said villain is such a threat that any and all heroes would be called to arms) Giving your identity would not be a prerequisite but you would have to provide some security questions that only you would know the answer to that are not common knowledge, to try and limit doppelgangers trying to take your place.

I.E. You still have to get a license but your identity is your secret still under this plan. It should also prevent incidents that led to the actual Marvel Civil War in the comics. Though it does have the flaw of requiring legal battles if a hero bites off more than they can chew even if that's the right thing to do. Obviously it would be hoped a hero wouldn't be found liable but it could happen.

Should they reject a compromise Bill along those lines or modify it away from those particular points than I'm defecting faster than you can say "Betrayal" because it would become clear the government wants to control super heroes more than make sure heroes don't bring about harm to the public.

Seconded.

Like, if I had some nice telepathic and telekinetic powers, I could sit there and be like "yes, you will give me a significant raise and let me take the rest of the day off" to my boss, then go home and plop onto the couch while I direct a beer to come out of the fridge and open itself before it settles into my waiting hand.

Rogers. This is a blatant violation of American civil liberties. Hell, it was a portion of our intelligence services that threatened to kill nearly a million Americans in minutes. If they can be infiltrated, I have little trust in the Government's policy.

"Choose Stark, and watch your neighbors' activities!"

"Choose Rogers, and enact your freedom!"

Yeah, I choose Rogers.

At least it's not about Game of Thrones-
