most people here couldn't care any less about india pak issues. pretty much everybody is ignorant of the region and their views can be summed up as 'well hope they don't nuke each other', 'pakistan jihadis', 'india rapists'. thats about it.

no, india should not ban paki artists. the govt should have no role in who acts in what films whatever.

actually it should give visas and asylum to genuinely talented pakiland artists. pakistanis want more islam. the dry wahabi variety. music dance etc are haraam.

I read your OP. Before I read anything else I decided to check the claim that Pakistan bans Indian movies. I got Wikipedia and a BBC article from 2006.

I thought maybe I could make a point that if Pakistanis are watching Indian TV and movies regardless of their stupid government's ban, India would win more friends among the Pakistani people themselves by giving expat Pakistanis good roles in Indian movies and TV series. And really you should see this as an opportunity not a provocation.

But with only such an old source, and really not much knowledge about India OR Pakistan, I was reluctant to take a position. I might still have posted, if there was just a page of replies instead of five already.

Then I read the first page of posts and thought "this thread is bad and I'm staying out of it".

And here I am in it.

I urge you to reconsider never starting a thread about India again. There's a lot goes on there which is barely reported in the West, and you have English-language newspapers and even English-language government documents to use as sources for this forum. I'm sure you can make interesting threads, about events in India and events of interest to Indians.

Last year for instance there was a thread about the Indian general election. Posters from the West weren't dismissive, they didn't mock your democracy. Mostly they were curious, sometimes surprised or even impressed. Posters who didn't know much about India were shown its good side. Maybe you should do that next time.

I'm not sure how effective you think the Jewish resistance was at stopping the Nazis, but I do know that it's not an appropriate comparison to make when dealing with South Asian competitive censorship.

Since Pakistan has banned Indian films and artists, India is justified in retaliating.

If India retaliates, it will show Pakistan's leaders that India will not take such nonsense. If Pakistan ban India movies... India ban Pakistan movies. If Pakistan play rough, India play rough.

''If you un-ban them, we'll un-ban them. If you ban. we ban. What you ban we will ban over a thousand fold.''

Pakistan's leaders have two choices with regards to this issue. They can keep India's movies banned, or they can realise the costs. India's response should be this:

''Ban the films. Ban the artists. Show them what it means to choose the wrong side.''
