Forming an LLC. (in the U.S.)

So I have some questions regarding the formation of an LLC (I live in Michigan, U.S.A.). I have been considering forming one to simply hold different investments and capital in which I can invest or own internet domains, websites, etc.
I'm just wondering if there are recurring costs to simply form one. Like do I have to pay extra tax to simply own an LLC? Because when I first form my LLC, I might not actually be making any profit...does it matter?

Basically this. Having worked in an accounting firm though, I do know that there are upfront costs to forming the LLC, and that LLCs do have to file tax returns. I would recommend consulting with both a lawyer (preferably a tax lawyer,) and/or your accountant/financial planner, not a website heavily populated by teenagers.
