What do you think of PETA?

I love them! They help fight against people eating meat! Which I don't like.

Hate the fuckers. Not a massive fan of animal rights groups anyway, but a group which claims to be supporting animal rights while stealing and killing people's pets deserves nothing but hatred.

PETA has some fine examples of hypocrisy when it comes to the people who actually administer the organization.

PETA sounds like a good think, but what they do is just stupid. We need a organization that supports eating meat. But does it in a way that would make vegetarians (who are different from vegans. Vegans don't eat anything that was or came from a animal. Vegetarians just don't eat meat.) and meat eaters happy. Plus the organization won't do anything stupid.

I'm not sure why you think vegetarians would enjoy an organization that's all about eating meat. Also, you don't need a group to support eating meat. If you live in the US (and probably a long list of other countries), you already live in a country that heavily subsidizes the livestock industry.

It got me thinking, what do other people think of PETA.

I personally don't like them. Because they protested Pokemon. FREAKING POKEMON! They also protested against Mario’s raccoon dog “Tanooki” suit. IT'S A FREAKING VIDEO GAME! PETA! GET OVER IT!

So what do you guys think of PETA?

Since they are often taking the side of animals against the Master Race, I really doubt their loyalty to the Master Race.

I love how someone can make a thread a bout PETA and you can count on another person on NSG coming along to out-crazy PETA.

I'd hardly use that term to describe humanity especially since the same term has been used in the past to justify the events of the late 19th, and early to mid 20th century.

They have good intentions but poorly execute them.
For anyone wondering, I joined this website during my edgy teenage years. I made a lot of dumb, awkward posts, flip-flopped between various extreme ideologies, and just generally embarrassed myself. I denounce a sizable amount of my past posts. I am no longer active on NationStates and this nation/account is no longer used.

They're rather ridiculous at times, and often draw attention to issues that really aren't important to the animal rights movement, though they have all in all done an excellent job at ensuring the topic of animal rights continues to be brought up, which is the most important thing we can do right now. Generally I support them.

The no-kill animal shelter bill is an awful idea. PETA accepts the utilitarian reality that it is better to humanely euthanize animals than to let them suffer. No-kill animal shelters are only able to operate by turning away the animals that they cannot quickly find homes for. It would be terrible if the bill passes.

I'm pretty sure PETA kills animals without even attempting to find a home for them. Even ones that don't have any problems that would get in the way of their being adopted.

Because surely the goal of an animal rights group is to kill as many animals as possible? No, PETA takes in animals from shelters that are about to euthanize them, or that need to but lack the ability to, and ensures that they are euthanized as humanely as possible. This is an agreement they have established with many shelters to ensure that if the animal must be out down, it is at least done so in a manner than minimizes suffering.

Desperate, but I can agree with some portions of their work.
Other works I just can't.

However that's coming from my unintelligent, anti-hunting, anti-meat eating, anti-fur brain, so don't mind what I say as satire.

From some of the things I read about, they actively hate 'cute' animals that people are more likely to want to adopt.

I don't think of them at all. To do so would give them legitimacy, and as such they are nothing more than smeared bug guts on the windshield of life.
