I get the impression that a lot of Republican politicians aren't really interested in the female reproductive system. So their ignorance is unsurprising.

I think the reason a lot of them do not know anything about these things is because they are older than 30. Functional education on anything for someone born before 1985 is pretty rare, before 1975 next to unheard of, and prior to 1965? "Vulva? That's a Swedish car, right?" The Democrats are no smarter, their base just demands things that do not necessitate understanding anything, so they don't show it.

Ignorance, sexism, fear and a very vocal sector of the party (and some leaders) who cannot seem to be able to shut up before they stick their feet up their mouths. That's pretty much it.

As to what can be done? Jesus, I don't know. Attempt at educating them more. But education goes against their conservative agenda so... keeping misinformation up is good for the party, it allows it to exert more control over its adherents.

Everyone, I appreciate that this is an emotive topic, that the ridicule might be richly reserved in this specific case - and I also appreciate that there's no bar on profanity in NSG - but I'd offer a gentle request to try not to get too heated here, especially if discussion moves more into the direction of Republican attitudes towards women; and even more especially if someone joins this thread to defend Republican policy towards women.

Let's try not to overdo it, please.

I dunno but it seems common enough

my sister had a medical problem with her stomach and had part of it removed. some time afterwards the husband of her best friend suggested that my sister must be sterile because she only had half a stomach so.....

and that was a man with children.

State reps have funny and stupid comments, news at 11.

Seriously, I look this sort of shit up when I'm bored, this says near nothing about a party, it just shows how much state governments need to be brought to the forefront: they're getting shit done unlike our national government.

A false hope that is. I've been through the American public school system in one of the worst areas in the nation. Trust me, it's not pretty. Half of the kids can't spell, the other half can't speak proper English. And expanding/revising education is hopeless with the Republicans controlling both houses. Common core was rigorous, but the culture of schooling has always been flawed. Honestly, the Montessori version of education is this country's best chance of moving forward. But I'm getting off topic. This thread is about Republicans not knowing the difference between a digestive tract and a uterus. Speaking of which, I now owe my sister twenty bucks. Remind me never to bet on whether the GOP can achieve even greater levels of ignorance.

He's on the board of the crisis pregnancy center and people are arguing that it's not necessary for him to know much about the female anatomy. That's just repeating in my head right now. It hurts. Make it stop. :(

its probably better to be ignorant if you are going to be involved in crisis pregnancy centers. they trick women into come in then try to intimidate them into adoption.
