Global warming is good

Postby Iwassoclose » Sun Feb 22, 2015 10:21 pm

The Northern hemisphere will have warmer temperature, which means more productivity in every industry from agriculture (more land, better growing seasons), construction, transportation, shipping etc.

With low to medium confidence, Schneider et al. (2007) projected that for about a 1 to 3 °C increase in global mean temperature (by the years 2090-2100, relative to average temperatures in the years 1990–2000), there would be productivity decreases for some cereals in low latitudes, and productivity increases in high latitudes.Source

Northwest passage opens up for shipping and oil and gas deposits will be more easily accessible.

Also less cost for heating in the winter.

What do you think about it?

The soil in northern latitudes is usually not that great because much of the topsoil has been scraped away by glaciers. Warming it up will not create ideal farming conditions because it does not replace the topsoil.

Unless will live in someplace like Nunavut, Siberia, or Greenland global warming will have an overwhelmingly negative affect on you.

I'm getting sick of winter, and I don't have the freedom or the money to move south, so I approve.

We already have great soil in the provinces i.e Saskatchewan the breadbasket of Canada. With increased temperatures farmers will have extended growing seasons that will help with increased yields. I also read that increased co2 will help plants grow faster and will improve productivity.

What about the flooding? Rising water levels will completely drown all the coastal cities.

It will not improve productivity on a global scale. Saskatchewan does not have enough good soil to replace all the farming areas that will be harmed.

I read it and the negative points all seem to go South except for Ocean acidification which could lead to a possible loss of 30% of corals and some shelled marine species

For example, in the spring, climate models agree that northern areas are likely to get wetter and southern areas drier.

Over the next century, it is expected that sea ice will continue to decline, glaciers will continue to shrink, snow cover will continue to decrease, and permafrost will continue to thaw. Potential changes to ice, snow, and permafrost are described below.

Northern Hemisphere snow cover is expected to decrease by approximately 15% by 2100.

I'm more concerned about what effect global warming will have on skin color. It is bad enough that non-White countries are reproducing much faster than majority White countries in general, but how will skin color evolve if more latitudes receive more sun light than what used to be the case?

Someone should lock the thread fast...this is a joke right?

EDIT: turns out it ain't a joke so I'll be an environmentalist for once: Global warming will cause the extinction of several species and endangering of several others. The food chain will collapse, floods will reclaim small islands and coastal cities, the already hot places on earth will be inhabitable, (that includes a lot of America as well for you rednecks), and a lot of natural disasters (like hurricanes, tsunamis, etc) will occur. If you think all this is worth it if you have to pay less for your heating facilities...well no more words.

EDIT 2: Someone mentioned skin color and although that's the least of my concerns if it makes you see the truth...go on

Not only is this the most ludicrous fear I've ever seen, but it seems that you don't know how evolutionary biology works. An entire ethnic group will not become darker n less than one hundred years. It would take thousands upon thousands of years. Cut your melodramatic, racist crap.

It'll result in economic growth as people build new cities. Plus, this time we can design the layouts to be more logical instead of the haphazardness of continuously adding to, remodeling, and retrofitting these centuries-old piles of irrationality. *nods*
