I love how vague this is. I too am against the Albigensian crusade; just because a couple of knights MIGHT have been killed, that doesn't warrant mass murder!

Nor do I condone the crusades, and yeah... Never judge a person based on their religion kids. I'm at a loss of what you actually mean so I just put that previous sentence up because meh.

Has not the spaghetti monster become a tiresome meme?

Besides, it demeans Michelangelo.

I am a Mennonite, a follower of the "Third Way". Unlike Protestants we do believe that good works count and should be encouraged.

Unlike Catholics, we believe we have direct access to God without mediation of priests or rituals.

You will seldom find a cross in our buildings (we have meeting places, not "churches"; churches are people, not architecture). Instead, there will be a mural depicting the Good Shepherd, or Jesus standing and knocking at the door.

Congregations sing in four part harmony.

Our clothes are simple but not austere; the age of LL Bean has suited us well.

We like to work and like to help. Where there is a natural disaster we will quickly shoe up in sufficient numbers to be useful.

We are peacemakers and pacifists. I attended a very moving ceremony which honored believers who had refused military service in WW II; instead, they served in (usually military) clinics. Those honored had endured the experience of soldiers flinging bedpans on them.

We reject pride, status, display of wealth, and so on. We are not supposed to run for or hold political office, although that position is currently under review. We cannot take a job which requires carrying a firearm. So, no prison guards or police. I know a pastor who lost his position simply because he was a constable.

We take forgiveness seriously. We will not participate in communion until we have sought out anyone we may have wronged. and received their forgiveness.

We are not holier than thou, because neither we not thou are particularly holy, period.

An apatheist is someone who is not interested in accepting or denying any claims that gods exist or do not exist. An apatheist lives as if there are no gods and explains natural phenomena without reference to any deities. The existence of gods is not rejected, but may be designated unnecessary or useless; gods neither provide purpose to life, nor influence everyday life, according to this view.

This apatheistic argument states that morals are present in human society and do not rely on religion to be a part of the human experience. Apatheists recognize that religion may provide a "comfort" for many people around the world, but apatheists do not need religion to be content with the morality of their lives and therefore live without it.

Apatheism also represents an extreme form of skepticism that argues that there is no rational ground for accepting any philosophical position. It is often associated with moral relativism.

I hate the term apatheist. It's agnostic atheism, nothing more. But, edgy teens, and smug people like Bill Maher use the term to attempt to differentiate themselves from other irreligious people. Why? To be "edgy."

And, I say this as an agnostic atheist myself.

Not really. Agnostic atheists don't believe in god(s) because it's unknown. Apatheists don't believe because they find it to be irrelevant.

I know.

In any case, I specify: an agnostic Roman Catholic is someone that believes that there may be or may not be a God, but that if He is there, it then would be like the God mentioned in Roman Catholicism.

Thus, if you're an agnostic [insert religion], you believe that there may be a higher or magical power or not, but that if that power exists, you think it is the way that it is in the [insert religion].

That is what I am. To not offend God if He is there, and because I respect the good in the universe and the traditions of my grandparets and elders, I go to church every Christmas, marriage and funeral.
Pro: tolerance, individualism, technocratism, democratism, freedom, freedom of speech and moderate religious expression, the ban on hate speech, constitutional monarchism, the Rhine model
Against: intolerance, radicalism, strong discrimination, populism, fascism, nazism, communism, totalitarianism, authoritarianism, absolutarianism, fundamentalism, strong religious expression, strong nationalism, police states

If you like philosophy, then here you can see what your own philosophical alignements are.

That's weird. I didn't know that most people on NS were Christians. I always thought the non-religious outnumbered us in this internet world.

Why do we have two identical topics on the front page?

Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.
We have nothing to lose but the world. We have our souls to gain.

I am an Evangelical Catholic, a High Church Lutheran. It is comparable to the term "Anglo-Catholic" within Anglicanism. It emphasizes worship practices and doctrines that are similar to those found within both Roman Catholicism and the Anglo-Catholic wing of Anglicanism.

Though I've been considering conversion to Anglo-Catholicism or Eastern Orthodoxy for a while now.

Since there are Nontheist Quakers, do you still identify as a Quaker?

No. I never was a Quaker. My family was historically Quaker, but my grandfather married a Catholic woman and she dominated the marriage, causing my mother to be raised Catholic, and as such, I was baptized Catholic and went to Catholic schools.

I have grown to resent the Catholic Church quite a bit, and lately, I've been taking an interest in the traditional ways of my people, who were Quakers, Episcopalians, and Methodists.
