A binder is a thing transmasculine people use to make their chests look flatter. And they can indeed be unhealthy if done improperly and/or with excessive tightness.

Even "good" binders are still dangerous if worn too long at a stretch, and binding is a particularly risky proposition for anyone whose body is still growing. There can be issues with permanently damaging blood vessels, connective tissues, and even ribs. It's also possible to compress the spine, leading to pain and possible nerve damage, or to collapse a lung.

Speaking as someone who has daydreamed about taking a deli slicer to their chest, I absolutely understand the appeals of binding. But I worry about the huge increase in young people using binders because there is so much potential for injury.

It doesn't make a difference, or is possibly worse, depending on the shirt. Sometimes baggier shirts tend to have wrinkles and folds in places I don't want them.

I'm aware of the risks, but if I'm going to do it anyway, I may as well get a proper binder and lower the risks at least a little bit.

And I haven't grown in years, so I don't think growing is too much of an issue.
