And my computer has been declared dead. It's meager life insurance should be making its way to my bank account in the next couple of days. Fuck everything.

Basically, doctors gave me some vaguely foreboding news on the HIV front and I caught some kind of vicious flu around the same time, but further tests reveal nothing to immediately worry about.

You can get money for having a computer break? Where's my cricket bat...?

Laptops are designed to break after the standard warranty of 2 years runs out. I ended up getting extra insurance (not actually worth it given that my computer started malfunctioning back during the original warranty) so the amount of time that it was required to be repaired or I be reimbursed was extended for two years. Of course, there aren't any spares around for a broken mainboard for some reason (my guess is that it's because laptops are designed to break so you have to buy a new one after two and a half years, so being able to fix them is counterproductive). So I get 60% of the computer's price back, which amounts to less than half of what I paid.

It's actually not. Most of what I did with my computer I probably still could be doing for a while. The money is not enough to buy a new one (at least not one I wouldn't have to replace soon) and I don't have any prospects of getting enough to do so. I probably would be better off with that broken computer than with the reimbursement.

I'm not a huge fan of pears, but the sharp taste is probably good right now in helping to bulldoze the crusty remains of my throat lining out the way.

That's definitely not true. With the broken computer, you just have a broken computer. With re reimbursement, you can have a broken computer and a lot of ice cream.
