We already know that many nurses will cravenly abandon their posts once Ebola reaches their door, and trust me, the US (to say nothing of any Europoor countries represented on this board) is not prepared to deal with an ebola outbreak. Casing out potential victims and quarantining them is our only magic bullet in this fight, and all it would take is a little dedication or one panicked idiot with ebola to spread the disease too far and too wide to prevent further spreading. And if Ebola reaches the ganges Asia is completely fucked.

Stop freaking out about Ebola. The situation in Europe and north America in terms of medical facilities is completely different. We should be more concerned with sending more help to Africa to try and save more lives.

Or just go out and buy hazmat suits, seal the borders, blame Obama, treat hero medical personell like lepers and turn Ebola freakout up to 11. That's a lot more productive.

I rather doubt Ebola will get very far. We had SARS, the Avian Bird Flu, Swine Flu, and a myriad of other "apocalyptic" diseases and they cooled down after a year or two, it'll likely be the same here. Red Cross will come in, people will stop listening to the nuts from the corner of the internet where tin hats are in fashion, and the disease will start to peter off. It won't ever be totally gone I suspect, but I don't think we have much to worry about in terms of it spreading too far and killing everyone. And on that note, isn't the death count still only around 1000 or so, in nations hosting millions of people? If it's stayed that relatively uncommon, we have a lot less to fear here.

As an immunologist and Ebola enthusiast, I feel that I am uniquely qualified to say you're wrong, at least partly. WHO has admitted that it dropped the ball in west Africa, but I know how Ebola spreads and I know how we deal with it, and even if twenty people fly into NYC with Ebola tomorrow, we won't have more than a minor outbreak. That's even accounting for a few cowards in the medical system, and accounting for people who don't know how to use PPE.
