Views on Love?

Throughout my life growing up I've been told the same thing over and over again. I was constantly told that I'd find my 'special one' since everyone has a 'special one', it was apparently the way how love worked. At first I thought it was true, it would make perfect sense because of the existence of marriage.

But if a man stayed underground most of his life being alone, surely he wouldn't meet his 'special one'? I feel like the whole ideology just creates false optimism. To continue my story, I was lead into the trap of joining a community in the local Catholic parish. They welcomed me into their seats and I experienced mass for the first time. I was shocked - at how the people all chanted words in accordance with the priest, almost like it was a cult; it got me entranced immediately. He professed that everyone "should love their neighbours", then after the gospel we sat and listened to him talk about love. He mentioned how "he will find a she and she will find a he, they will together forever because that's how love has always worked". Then in another mass, he also said that "loving God is important as he created us, and that he loves us too". I attended countless masses in my time being a Catholic, till I finally saw what was really happening.

Confusion can be manipulated easily, and it was not soon till I realised it was the case here too. They were telling me what love is, and who or what I should be loving. But it actually was just their interpretation of what love should be, according to their religion. They saw that love between a Male and a Female is the only form of love, as it is pure and perfect in their vision of the world. I felt as if I had been exploited, and that my dignity had been stolen in order for worship of their God. I had been played like a pack of cards.

I see the real truth. Marriage is just sculpture made from love, It is only a perception of what love should be; of what is and is not allowed to be loved. Marriage is only a proposal of the shape that love takes to their eyes, only to quench our thirst of curiosity as many don't know what love really is, they don't have their own opinion on love. Well, I now have myself; Love is a sense of attachment. This could be with a pet or an object, with some friends or with someone who you desire to be your partner. This sense varies with certain things, it's determined by how much they mean to making and keeping yourself contempt.

Also, I don't care about homosexuality, since it doesn't obstruct my view on love. Anyone can love anything or anyone, and it's not in my place to question their attachments as I'm not that person.

(I'm sorry if my opinion insults you, but it's my opinion all the same and I won't be changing it.)

So NS, you now know what I think about love, it's your turn now.

What is love?
Is the Male/Female pairing the only way of Love?
What is meant by 'Pure Love'?
Is Marriage a blessing or a curse to live with your entire life?
If you have a interesting story about love, feel free to share it!

...also, don't be afraid to share things that you love, at your own risk! ~

Is the Male/Female pairing the only way of Love?

No. Transgenders and those of other genders are capable of finding love too.

What is meant about 'Pure Love'?

No such creature exists.

Is Marriage a blessing or a curse to live with your entire life?

Just means people want to spend "eternity" with the person they love. It's kind of a toss-up between blessing and curse. Like, Blurse.

If you have a interesting story about love, feel free to share it!

Do inanimate objects count? If so, I have a lengthy story.

Transgenders still fit the gender binary.

Incredibly inconvenient but in most cases unavoidable. Especially when pizza is involved.

"What Is Love" is a song recorded by Trinidadian-German Eurodance artist Haddaway.

Nope

No idea really, I do believe there is someone out there for everyone. Given there are more than 7 billion of us you probably have a good shot.
The Floating CityState of Serenity wrote:Is Marriage a blessing or a curse to live with your entire life?

I would say that depends on the partner.

I am filled only with bitterness and cynicism after having my adopted love of Russia stamped out of me by the military realism and vehicle threads, so now I know only cold harsh jadedness '

or something like that

Love is a fickle thing. Is it a biological/chemical reaction to body shape/personality of certain individuals who you want to make kids with and then abandon

You can still love their Napoleonic uniforms, which were the best.

1. I'm afraid if you read what I said, I don't agree with that view.

2. Nice! Haven't heard one like that before!

Let's tackle this one by one:

What is love? (Baby don't hurt me) An unnecessarily overcomplicated way to allow humans to wish for and enjoy reproduction, at cost of much higher pain and even happiness.

Is the Male/Female pairing the only way of Love? No, as you can be attracted to anything, and physical and/or emotional attraction to anything could be considered love.

What is meant by 'Pure Love'? Never heard of "pure love", but if the question is what "true love" is, I daresay it's any love that's true and not just you telling yourself you love something.

Is Marriage a blessing or a curse to live with your entire life? Depends on person to person.

If you have a interesting story about love, feel free to share it! Oh, I have a lot of failure stories :lol2:

...also, don't be afraid to share things that you love, at your own risk! - Hanako Ikezawa, hands down. Nobody touch ma waifu

So much youthful edge in this thread, so far. Yet all of it so far from the mark.

Love isn't something you feel. Love is, rather, something you do.

Ok I will tell you about this special one syndrome, look don't believe what people tell you, if someone is professing love means they want something from you, After a few experiences, thankfully early in my life, when I was a student I understood the true nature of people, I understood the selfishness of love, I understood that people will only love you when you have something to give them, and when you have nothing then they will go away, think of it as a ponzi scheme, its something to dupe you, lot of people profess there love to you, but you be cautious of them, what they are trying to do is lying to you, so that they can milk some moolah. I cannot stand a romantic movie, or watch a romantic couple, because I know when the guy has nothing left with him, she will just go away with another man

I just think its just an idea of false hope, to make lonely individuals feel better.
